Also, The Actor for Dale would’ve stayed alive for a lot longer but requested to be killed off after Frank (his good friend) was fired. We might’ve seen a similar character development from Weak to Strong like we saw from Carol.
If they were to follow the comics then Dale would just be the Hershel we got on the show and Hershel would be a grouchy old man and then Dale would die in the cannibal scene that took bob
Agreed 💯 Jeffrey DeMunn ( Dale ) worked in many projects, with Frank. The Shawshank Redemption, the Storm of the Century, and a few other Stephen King movies. Loved his character, would have definitely interested, in seeing more
I was glad too. I was never really super invested in TV shows around the time I was watching The Walking Dead. But even if I don't like shows, I am persistent enough to watch right to the end. The Walking Dead is, and probably will always be, the only show that I cannot finish after Carl's death. I just can't do it.
@@lattimoreland2399 Disagree to a degree i think he couldve done better but he did have his moments like in season 4 when rick was hurt in the house and in season 6 and 7
The thing is that, Carl was the show, the show centered around the Idea of Rick doing anything for Carl to live. When he was killed the whole point of the show left with him. Also Lincoln’s departure could have easily paved the way for Carl to step in and take his place as leader. And Beth, Glenn, Carl were all under the TWD curse. The moment they got character development they were killed off.
people are supposed to die in the show just because its your favorite character does not change that, they should of just followed the comics faithfully.
@@vincenthammons6705 it not my favorite character, it’s just common knowledge for script writing that you don’t seem to have. The directors were bad and so were the scriptwriters. And you know you made a bad choice when almost everyone collectively agrees and the the viewership drops by 10 million
I was sad when Glenn died but like I understood it, bc that’s what happened in the comics. Carls death though? Nope, completely checked out when that happened. I was and still am so pissed about that.
Carl’s character had years of surviving experience in the apocalypse, surviving and thriving, yet suddenly he gets bitten in the most ludicrously flimsy bit of writing, as if he’s just woken up to the world of The Walking Dead, rather than living through it since he was a child
When they killed of Carl it felt really weird to me, especially while the entire season was building him up as the last hope for peace in the world where humans become less human than zombies. So long story short, checked the comics and turns out the very next arc was supposed to be Carl's arc I am still baffled how much they sabotaged themselves.
They fired "Carl" because he was turning 18 and was due to receive a major major update and pay increase to his contract now he was an adult. He had a huge amount of screen time and he would have played a pivotal role in future episodes, coupled with his tenure on the show, meaning his pay would be top dollar alongside other front line actors on the show, and they just didn't want to bite the bullet and pay up.
No. Although he was told he was signing a new contract, they completely duped Chandler Riggs, but not for any of the reasons you mentioned. Gimple told him that he was coming in to sign his new contract and that it was going to be Carl's story blah blah blah. The poor kid enrolled in college in Georgia and was just about to buy a house when Gimple ripped the rug from underneath him and fired him. Gimple only did this because he thinks he's some kind of genius and he could improve upon the comic which was actually Carl's story. This was a contributing factor to Andy Lincoln leaving the show. He was very upset at the way that Chandler was treated. When he got the call about it he thought it was going to be his character that was going to be killed off.
Even it was mentioned that the series was having its differences to the comic, killing Carl was going waaay too far. We saw how much he lived and survive being a child/teen, just to be bitten by 2 walkers while saving a guy that died 2 seasons later (don't even remember the guys name)...
I mean Siddiq is in the comics but he was such a good character there and he didn't die. Another mistake, killing Carl off and Siddiq too without a real reason
There are so many other repercussions. Let's talk about Enid's character becoming completly pointless, so they killed her in the Whisper arc just to get rid of the character. Lydia's character arc was also hollow without his presence, despite Jeffrey Dean Morgan desperately trying to carry her (and the rest of the show) on his back. By taking out both Rick and Carl they removed elements from the show that none of the remaining characters could offer by themselves or together, Michonne and Daryl could never be the leader Rick was, and poor Judith could never interact with the rest of the cast in the same way because she was too young and lacked the experiences Carl had. The result was a hollow shell of the former show, an esoteric opera about zombies vs stormtroopers that only used "TWD" as branding, but had very little of It's substance.
The thing about Carls death is how nonchalant and anticlimactic it was, we've seen Carl go through many life-endangering situations just for him to die from a walker bite because he got overrun by two walkers, even though he managed to escape from the simmilar situation when he was 12.
Exactly!! We watched him turn into a little badass that was always ready to protect his family no matter what. Dumbest thing they did was kill mini Rick 🙄
@@Selena-yr5zb tv show carl was never a mini rick. He was a supporting character for rick who was all over the place and never stayed inside the house. @@dwayneb1047 I mean mini Rick in the sense of he was taught mostly everything he knows by Rick, & he was always determined to stay behind on missions to make sure their community was safe
Carl's death came out of the blue and did not make sense. We could excuse Glenn's but Carl's death was really the last straw. Let's not forget the whole motivation for the show is Rick protecting his family - Carl. This was the worst decision ever.
The shitty thing about Chandler's situation is that he had been promised (if I recall) at least 3 more seasons on the show. He had bought a house where they were filming and also found a post-secondary school that would allow him to film while also studying for whatever course he was taking there. He basically moved his entire life out to the filming location under the guise he had lots of time left on the show, only for Scott to say "lmao jk you're dying this season". I remember Chandler's dad had released a statement basically calling Scott out on his shit but he had to delete it. I know for me personally I stopped watching halfway through s8, but I had wanted to go back and keep trying. But when they killed off Carl, I swore off the show. They did Chandler so fucking dirty and I can't forgive them for that.
@@polishherowitoldpilecki5521 I wouldn't be surprised, I'm sure AMC wasn't too happy to be called out on their bullshit like that and probably threatened legal action if he didn't
Even though Glenn was my favorite character of the show, I still could fully accept that he died. His death kept me on my toes and the show reminds you that nothing lasts forever, but killing off Carl was just stupid, and the way he died was so lazy. Killing off the main character of the show was probably the dumbest decision anyone could make.
I guess you could say the same for Carl’s death but I totally agree with you. Glenn’s death felt way more impactful and Carl’s death seemed random and rushed. I really can’t explain why though.
@@ronyolo8419 From everything Carl has survived, he gets bitten from a wrestling match with a walker. He didn't need to do that at all, and Sidiq was perfectly fine if he didn't do that. It did feel very rushed.
Maybe it was just me, but I thought one of the premises of the show is that anybody could die at anytime. With that thought it frustrated me with everyone living so long. Glenn living after the dumpster scene is what drove me away, and the introduction to Lucille brought me back.
I always thought there were too many times where a character would be introduced on the show, be a background character, suddenly get a lot of screen time, and then proceeded to die in the same episode. Most of which to happen for shock factor alone, and it happened so many times that it started to not only get really tedious and predictable, but honestly kinda comical. Even then it’s still one of my favorite shows of all time.
It's not Just Glenn's death but also Abraham too. Abraham's character as an army infantry veteran of Gulf War 1.0 and Panama was very convincing. His speech and mannerisms, his choice of the longer M16A1, which would have been army standard issue in Panama was perfection. His wearing of army medical arm sling in olive drab as a night patrol bandana is totally spot on. Nice screenwriting stumbling into an army recruiting center leading to huge gift RPG, three rockets & cherry on top a box of Cuban(?) cigars! Perhaps many viewers don't realize this actors very accurate portrayal ?? You yourself ignore his death. What's up with that ???? You're fired !!!!!
Carl & Rick together were the central characters where we were following his multifaceted experiences of growing up as a little boy from that first episode were Rick’s aim is to find Carl we saw a little child trying to cope in the breakdown of the world & followed him to a young man, so I thought he was the central character for me with Rick. They were into linked & were the fundamental glue to the full concept . As in the comic, we see him grow into a man and have his own crew as we saw him literally have to grow up so fast the whole symbolism of wearing a hat, the police hat of his father is taking on that role. His whole life was in a world of The Walking Dead, he had barely known any other existence. So to kill of Carl was killing us off , when he got killed of I felt it was inconceivable to continue watching I tried yet it seemed it crumbled into a miss match of different story arch’s
I completely understand ppl not watching after Glenns death. I almost stopped watching at that point too. Infact I remember the part when Rick almost had to cut off Carls hand I said ok if they actually do this Im done this is too far.
i read the comics so i was mentally prepared for that but when carl died that was bs and undeserved as he is the main character of the comics and had a lot of content left in the character only to replace him with other younger people that go off be heroic and die
@@usernamefoundelsewhere3483 Also not to mention how Carl's death made Rick's departure so much worse for the show. The only person to follow in his footsteps was Judith, which IMO was not a good replacement for Carl at all.
Tbh idk why they had to get rid of Carl he was huge in the grimes family plus if they didn’t like how he was getting older they could have just done a time skip in the show to make him fit in with the timeline

It may have also been worth mentioning how the spinoffs were announced before the conclusion of the show. Really took out a lot of the suspense out of the final season. The reapers arc in season 11 was also a pretty big blunder, though there is speculation that was the result of AMC pulling the plug when producers & writers were already planning for a season 12, and as a result had to condense the season drastically to fit in the commonwealth arc. If that's the case, we can add that to the list of controversies.
It's strange how much AMC blundered through the production of TWD and yet it's still so popular... they really toed the line with how reckless they were (are.)
@@davids1391 Yes, Rosita dying and that girl losing her arm are so unecessary twists. It doesn't add anything to the story, it doesn't shock, it does nothing. It's only for the sake of consequence.
I truly don't understand why so many people left the show with Glenn. I loved the comic version of the scene and felt like they did it ok enough on tje show. Carl's death was 100% my endpoint. Carl had so much build up in the comics, removing him was insane.

The thing that killed the walking dead isn't one thing, but it's a multitude of things. One of those things was the writing and progression of the series. The Walking Dead felt very "immature" with its writing. Instead of actually exploring how much society has truly collapsed, how other people cope with its collapse, and it's eventual comeback, they instead focused on "shocking" the audience with grand gestures. I think this is the main reason why The Walking Dead became so trigger happy when it came to its characters dying. Instead of creating drama that would actually be compelling to follow, they resort to "pulling a rabbit out of a hat." I wonder what great things would've come out of the series if Frank was still working on it.
Thanks for writing that, it definitely reflects the giant problematic undertones I notice while having watched the show. There were certainly a multitude of things that lowered the standards of TWD. Sometimes it's just incredibly hard to dismiss or make excuses for, so it seems like AMC slipped more into that deep-end as they ran out of material to screw around with.
@@boop004 which is sad considering they struck gold with the perfect creative team, but amc was out for greed. Queue the breaking bad meme “WE HAD A GOOD THING GOING WITH DARABONT BUT YOU JUST HAD TO BE THE MAN. YOU AND YOUR PRIDE AND YOUR EGO”
I think Carl's death was the biggest mistake in killing the main characters of the show. Because when the story of Walking Dead started, the summary of the story was this: Rick wakes up from a coma and looks for his family: Carl and Lori... In fact, Rick's family was one of the main parts of the story because it gave Rick a lot of motivation to move forward and build the future and try to survive. Among Rick's family, Carl was the most important person... and Rick always did the hardest, worst and bravest things to save... When Carl died, it was as if a part of Rick's personality was lost... Carl was not just a separate character. ...He was a part of Rick...an important part of Rick's reason and hope for life... Therefore, killing Carl dealt one of the biggest blows to the show... Carl's absence created a hole in the story that new characters could not fill. I think this is true... Carl's death had a bad effect on Andrew, and it seems that he also felt that the series is not the same as before, that's why he wanted to leave. Regarding Andrea, I think the choice of the actress for the role of Andrea was wrong... and this wrong choice made Andrea's character not like a comic! Glenn's death was very bad... not only was his death sad, but the way Glenn was killed was very cruel. At least they could have given this character some respect... and given him a better death... I stopped watching The Walking Dead when Carl died...... Definitely Rick's absence in the story was not only wrong but awful... Walking Dead is a character driven story and just look the main character is gone from the story... It's like a joke.. This problem is from the AMC because they did not want to end the series on time and even agreed to continue it until the main actor got tired and left the Walking Dead!!!!
I feel like Carls death was much more disrespectful literally a child made it this long in a zombie apocalypse literally lost his eye just for them to kill him off with a walker that’s just not fair to his character it was as if they put 0 thought into his death
I think Glenn’s death was necessary. A season 1 character needed to go and that had to be either Glenn or Maggie. Glenn had no more use in the show unless they killed Maggie off, but Maggie still had some plot lines left so they killed Glenn instead. Without a season 1 death, Negan and the saviors wouldn’t have been seen as such a big threat. Also, Rick was getting too cocky and needed to be humbled.
In my own opinion they should’ve done better with the zombie and it ok for some good character to die like carl & glenn or other, people need to see not everyone can survive. they should’ve kill them in the last season. But People are greedy wanting to be an actor or play by their rule type of situations. Like i don’t know it an ok show. i never had like it in the beginning. I like learning more information so i can practice like them
Yep. I totally agree that killing off Carl was the "killing blow" to TWD. I watched all 11 seasons, but it was never the same after Chandler Riggs was forced out. (I mean, it wasn't his decision to leave and the timing of it was just... Wrong... It definitely made the higher ups of production look really bad, especially since he'd just turned 18, and other things.) Although I loved the way he went out. Enjoying his time with toddler Judith, having the sunshine on his face, doing whatever he could to make sure his overextended family was safe, and even making Rick and Michonne wait outside until he "took care of himself" so they wouldn't have to shoot their own son in the head. This is why we'll miss Carl Grimes forever.
Carl was a serious asset to the community. He was making moves, taking risks that made the show exciting to watch. This is my only grievance about the show. I would have loved to see Carl’s influence on Judith as well.
You’re right. The departure of Carl was the last straw for me. If you go back to the prison when Lori is about to give birth to Judith, and she tells Carl he is going to beat this world, you figure he is going to “replace” his dad one day and be a last man standing. Therefore, after the death of Carl I quit watching. I was a HUGE watching dead fan. I watched it every week. I would tell people not to bother me on The Walking Dead nights and even had a Walking Dead pajama out fit I wore every time. It was depressing…
I always frame it like this. I look at watching the decline of TWD as being on a bus on your way to work. When they killed Glenn, I started looking around for familiar landmarks, knowing my stop was coming up soon. When they killed Carl, I stood up and held on to the railing. When Rick left the show that’s when I was like “YEP, this is my stop. Time to get off”
Me and my family loved watching this series SO MUCH. Then while waiting for the next episodes, we saw a picture spoiler where Glenn was dying/had died. We got so disappointed, we stopped anticipating for the show anymore. After not watching TWD for months, we thought it couldn't get worst, we heard Carl also died. 🤡 So much wasted potential 🤦
I hate the fact they killed of carl before he finally started to get interesting. Its my favorite character in the comics because of his bond with Negan and the whole whisper war part as well. But they killed him off before they even could get to that part which i will never understand
AMC firing the man behind the cinematic translation of both Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile was criminally stupid. Darabont knows how to honor source material while making the subtle changes to move a written medium into a theatrical medium, and the seeds of every other stupid decision came from not having him at the helm. The killing off of Andrea, the Hospital Arc & Beth's death while simultaneously cutting off the epic Cannibal story arc in one episode, that stupid dumpster scene, the stupid cliffhanger season finale, the forced Michone/Rick relationship. I tried to keep being fan with these dumb decisions; but when Carl lifted up his shirt to show that bite wound I literally turned off the tv and walked out of the room. I quit TWD right then and never watched another episode, I never actually saw them kill off Carl, coworkers confirmed it and I was officially out. Cheers to the content kid, solid video.
oh they dragged his death out too im pretty sure it was a whole episode of him crying and whining to rick and michonne with him later shooting himself in cabin with rick sitting outside waiting for the gunshot, such bs
@@abrimley6700 disagree, I thought the richonne relationship was the forced one, even tho we all saw it coming cos it was like they were telling us it was gonna happen. They seem more like really close friends to me, got more of a Daryl and Carol relationship. The chemistry just isn’t there, but they clearly wanted to go with it. Also didn’t help that they got together literally the episode after Jessie died which was a bit weird. I dunno just never worked for me, far from the worst thing the walking dead would do tho obviously
I actually think the reason The Hospital Arc is as bad as people make it out to be is because A. Beth died, making everything that happened pointless and B. Dawn and her corrupt cops feel like early apocalypse villains (people that naïve would theoretically make as long as Seasons 1&2, not survive all the way until Season 5). If Beth had lived, then that arc could have been remembered as the arc that turned Beth into a darker character who even Maggie was afraid of during The Wolves, No Way Out, and The Whisperers, but instead she died for shock value and you could argue that the Tyrese death the next episode is what caused the drop in viewership for Season 6 which resulted in AMC doing the Negan Cliffhanger, which THEN led to Carl's death (Scott Gimple was a lazy storyteller and AMC thought that this would cause headlines and get the viewers back) and with Chandler Riggs' firing, came Andrew's exit.
The Negan cliffhanger, being not long after the dumpster debacle, is what caused me to stop watching. Both were insulting to the audience's intelligence, and I had hit my breaking point. I have been a comic reader since before the show started, so I knew what was going on there, but it was just the fact that they thought THAT was how to end the sixth season of the most-watched show on television, and were just so certain that they would get away with it. If they had just shown him pick Abraham and didn't do that insanely cheesy first person view wirh blood running down the screen, I might not have checked out there. But, the only episode I've watched since that one was the season 7 premier because I wanted to see Glenn's death in live action. Since then, I've just watched some highlights, namely scenes that were in the comics. They royally screwed the pooch with this show.
@@TheOriginalTaterbug If I did the show, then there wouldn’t have been a cliffhanger, the last episode would have been 2 hours. No cliffhanger. This is Negan’s episode. Also, the whole Glenn thing is really dumb. I’d straight up cut all of that episode and just have everyone get back to Alexandria, because that episode is meaningless and also creates another God awful cliffhanger with the No Way Out story. Pushing No Way Out to Episode 9 was just dumb and also resulted in the removal of the Carl Eye Arc from the comics.
@@gfilmer7150 Oh, I'm absolutely with you. The ending should've been EXACTLY where the comic issue ended: Negan walking off casually and saying,"Ta ta." But, the VERY LEAST they could've done was shown who he picked if they were going to stray from the source material there. You're absolutely right that it was Negan's episode, and they dumped all over it for shock value and a murder mystery Twitter hashtag. Yeah, the Glenn thing was just putrid. I was fine with them deviating from the comics for things because it gave me more incentive to watch the show, but Scott M. Gimple ruined everything. He's the only showrunner who might be as dense as David and Dan from Game of Thrones.
@@gfilmer7150 Oh, MAN, I really hated that they didn't show that. There were some small things like that which should've been kept in to add to the narrative. It's one thing reading the comics and seeing their responses to events, but I always enjoyed seeing how the actors would bring them to life. And, that was a pretty significant event.
Say what you want about the 7th and 8th seasons, but the perfect ending is this: Carl is still alive, and when Rick is about to kill Negan on the hill, he does, finally killing the saviors. Then, they live on to continue surviving, fighting off walkers until they either all die, or begin civilazation again.
What gets me about Carl’s death is that if they knew they weren’t going to stick to the comics why did they kill Glen off. They shot themselves in the foot and have no one to blame but the writers for the decline of twd fan base.
What happened in season 2 was that AMC was not ready to spend a lot of money on the series after the first season. The first season had been given a lot of funding and hence we saw a lot of scenes with various backgrounds and sets, but is season 2, there was only one set and max 4 characters on the screen
Regarding Negans introduction kills, I think that if only Abraham died, it would’ve made his much more impactful as no one cares about his death as everyone cries over Glenn, and it would’ve been interesting to see how Glenn would’ve fit during the all out war
I wanted Abe to die at the end of season 6 to give that time to be like damn negan is Fr for us to come back and think eveyone was safe only for them to kill Glenn as wel. Would’ve gave them both their respected time for their deaths…

@@deckzone3000 well thats obvious that there different. Carl was the center of the show for Ricks character maybe not the entire show. he was supposed to be alive when rick "died" (which also doesn't happen in the comics) Ricks goal the entire show was to "find and protect" his family. Had carl lived to season 11, they would have a big time spin off coming. Instead we got some garbage neegan and maggie show (doesnt look bad but why they always forced to be together) and Daryl in france. They could have done a whole carl spin off. More people quit watching the show when carl died than glen. Shit was the most botched death in the show.
I can agree with that being a mistake killing off carl. It's very similar to the decision to kill Prim at the end of The Hunger Games in the book. It removed the purpose for EVERYTHING we went through in the three books. The WHOLE reason for the series to exist was the protection of Prim.
I think CArl's death was a critical point. Rick lived for him and pushed himself in bad or good behavior for his son. I've never stopped to watch the show that I love. I loved Daryl Dixon spin off too. But I had a Hard time to keep going on when Lincoln left the show
Def Carl's death did it for me, there's simply no TWD without that father-son relationship. After so many years, we all saw Carl's character grow and be built to take on his father's leadership role. I was left with the feeling... well now what?
That was definitely the case but also because Chandler was vocal in complaining about his pay he was an example for the rest of the actors. When AMC resigned everyone to their contracts they put a clause in that they only got paid a pro rated amount of their contracts based on their on camera time. That's why you started to see the structure of the show change where the storylines concentrated on smaller groups of the cast for 3 or 4 episodes at a time to save money.
I agree that the biggest mistake was the killing off of Carl. I saw a picture of an all grown up Carl, and he looked so great. And the thought of him eventually being the leader was awesome. But no, they killed him off. I continued watching TWD until the finish, but I still get upset when I think about Carl dying. Big... hugh mistake.
For me, Glenn and Carl’s deaths didn’t cause me to lose interest in TWD originally-it was Rick leaving. No Rick, no Walking Dead for me. I eventually went back and finished watching the show on Netflix and yeah…I didn’t miss much. I am glad they decided to keep Ezekiel alive, though, as he was one of the very few truly good people on that show.
For me, Carl's death definitely made me lose interest the most. You have to think, Rick's pretty much ONLY goal throughout the whole series was protecting his family and making sure they survive, and we got completely robbed of that. The ending of the comic is literally beautiful, as it's Carl carrying on his dad's legacy and telling the story of his dad to his daughter, meaning Rick accomplished his one true goal. Watched every single new episode the day they aired with my mom ever since the beginning until that very episode, because the whole point of the show and the goal was lost. Haven't watched a single episode since.
I dont think Glenn's death was necessarily a mistake. It could have been written better, since it did overshadow Abraham's death. However, Glenn's death was great for story development but it was painful since glenn was the glue of the show
I was fine with glenn's death, it was sad and gut wrenching as hell but at least it made sense of how brutal the walking dead universe can be. Carl's death was definitely unacceptable tho
Yeah I feel like if there wasn't the god awful cliffhanger the negan kills would have been received better. If they had shown Abraham's death on the final episode of season six, and then killed Glenn at the start of season seven, Abraham's death wouldn't have been overshadowed as much. Plus, the dumpster fake-out was really stupid lol.
@@Jack.Martson theres alot more that got it, like Axel, one of the prisoners in season 3 in the comics and the show he got shot in the head by woodbury soldiers
What? I don't remember too well but I'm pretty sure the issue was not the hospital. The mistake was Maggie searching for Glen. As if Beth didn't exist. Yes Glen searching for Maggie is fine. And the whole romance aspect of both searching for eachother is great. But the one thing overriding that would have been Maggie's worry for her sister more than anything. Yet it made no sense the story of her concerned about Glen. Not at all Beth.
I think she though beth couldnt have possibly made it being weak as she thought she was...but she knew glen git out even though he didnt. And im pretty sure she even said to her it felt beth was dead. But that was bs. Herschel would have wanted her to find beth as much as glen. She betrays her father with that
Nah, still those episodes and arc were good and had a great conclusion that lead to Terminus and everything that happened there, the Hospital arc was boring and led anywhere, killing off a character that had so much potential making all his time on screen a waste of time
I distanced myself after Glenn's death, even though I knew it was coming. But when Carl died, that was it, I was done. I've only seen clips of the show after that.
While I was saddened by Glenn's death, I kept watching, anxiously awaiting the payback on Negan. When they failed to bash his brains in, it felt to me like a big build-up to a huge letdown. Still, I watched on. Then came the Whisperers. Ugh. Compared to earlier seasons, the whole concept of people wearing skin masks and doing silly walks just seemed comical. That combined with the loss of Rick caused me to bail. After all, it really was his story.
it's weird I really thought i wouldn't like it based on clips i watched, but then I tried S9 and I like it and even like Negan who was the reason I stopped watching the show. I hate S7 so much I quit after 8x01. I just recently started watching cuz Rick is coming back, and I watched 8's last three/four episodes, skipping most of the pointless dialogue. Anyhow S9 turned out to be decent all things considered. Rick leaving was really stupid, but after he left I thought I would stop as I only came back to see his last episodes. Weirdly I found myself enjoying the show again. I'm about to finish S9. Maybe I'm just desperate.
Yep, Glen's death did it for me. The social dynamics changing and the old guard being replaced with new characters i felt no connection to ruined the show for me. Don't get me wrong, Negan is an amazing actor and i love the character he plays. But yeah, it became increasingly hard to care about all of these new characters that were constantly being cycled and killed off.
@@diegozuniga6122 ~ I get that he was created with a bat and a smile but I always thought he was too thin. If he’s Thin make him look like he was actually diabolical. But they didn’t. I really like the actor, too. Just not here.

It honestly puzzles me why people got so annoyed over Glenn dying. Granted I hated seeing it happen - but following the comics...... I sort of had a feeling it was going to happen. It also set the tone for somewhat humbling Rick, as well as opening up Season 7 to the threat of the Saviors. Also with other supporting characters, although a big loss, it wasn't a pivotal one However I personally tapped out when Carl died and never watched another episode after that. I'm aware that Judith became the de facto "future" of the apocalypse, but at that point like others had mentioned, also killed a part of Rick in the sense that he basically put forward an oath to ensuring his survival (Up til the end of the comic where Rick met his end). Very crummy way to kill off a character, and a very pivotal one at that To each their own though. Ultimately I think this video is spot on. This series was doomed once Frank Darabont was fired
I stopped watching when Glenn died because at that point in the show he was the only character I found interesting. Edit: I don't think it was a bad decision because the actor wanted to move on from the show and it's iconic but my wavering interest was fully gone at that point.
I can care less about the comics. They didn't have to kill off Glenn in the show, and the death was very lame. I do get satification though that it was the jump the shark moment for TWD.
i wouldnt have been as mad if glenn's death did follow the comics but it didnt, abraham died first and glenn only died because of a dumb choice daryl made. made his death seem so preventable and unnecessary where as before at least he was the one giving up his life so no one else in the group had to. but why i really wanted glenn to skip his comics death is because his TV portrayal of the character ended up being so much more than the comics character ever was. i felt like everyone would have been so happy to see him survive, instead a favorite character leaves and most people cite it as the reason they stopped watching
NGL, when Glenn died I think everyone who enjoyed the show was heart broken. I quit around Glenns death but decided to continue from all the cool scenes in your videos. But when carl died... That was the last straw.
Honestly I feel like one of the biggest mistakes the show continues to make is killing off characters for seemingly no reason other than shock value. I get it's an apocalypse and people would be dying alot but when you watch it happen constantly it's just so painfully obvious it was done for no reason. While deaths like Andrea and Beth are easy to point at I hardly saw anyone mention Noah. He made it out of the hospital, Beth basically died for him and then he died a few episodes later. It just feels like they wanted to kill him off to shock the audience (+his gorey death just makes me more convinced he only died to catch the viewer off guard). And to top it off they introduce alot of new characters in later seasons we are supposed to care about simply because "they're the good guys." Introducing new characters is perfectly fine (example I can think of it Tyreese and Sasha) but when half of them don't do anything and only exist to fill up the cast and then later get killed off it makes it hard to care about them.
Carl dying is what did it for me...I continued to watch to the end, but I wasn't a die-hard fan anymore. I thought they fired him because he wasn't great at acting, lol. But the Rick-Carl relationship was the whole point of watching. S5 was definitely my favorite.
He was about to turn 18 so they would have started paying him as an adult, but why would they pay a lot of money to an actor that isn't good at their job?
@@marianunez2442 I remember the episode in s5, I think it was, when he got into a slap fight with Porch Dick's son....ugh horrible! But ya know I figured if they could hold on to Norman Reedus for so long and all he did for a lil while is grunt...I thought maybe they could give him a moment/guidance to improve, lol. I would've liked to have seen his transformation into the Carl storyline from the comics. I get the feeling AMC got super greedy once they realized they had a popular show on their hands. I notice Steven Yeun has not returned for any reason, lol and that says alot to me. He didn't want to be included for Rick's flashbacks or the series finale. They had Chandler in the BACKGROUND in the finale episode! Playing a nameless character sweeping up...geez!
Twd's biggest mistake was killing Andrea, Beth and of course Carl, Twd really messed up by killing the three of them and that made a lot of fans disappointed and bullied Twd
So many people say that chandler riggs wanted to leave for some reason, i think they're getting confused with Andrew Lincoln wanting to leave. Apparently Lincoln was talking about leaving before carl died but after that happened he started to sound more serious about it. Chandler riggs definitely didn't want to leave since he bought a house closer to the filming location, why would someone do that if they wanted to leave their job?
Andy was considering it before Chandler was fired, and then when they did and killed Carl off, even Andy knew it was bullshit with how wrong they did Chandler & his character and right then just made it official that he's leaving and didn't sign any new contracts past mid s9, due to the tremendous amount of respect & admiration he had for Chandler who had a genuine friendship off-screen, to the point that Andy wasn't even acting during Carl's final episode. That was 100% real emotion, and I'm right there with him whenever I see that episode.
I don’t think glens death was a reason the show spiralled since it was apart of the comics that’s how the story was meant to go. Carl and Rick leaving the show ended up killing it in my opinion, following side characters the whole rest of the show was a huge letdown and the only characters we had from the original group Daryl, Carol, Maggie and Michonne were always randomly split up for stupid reasons, Maggie disappeared completely and all the characters who you did really like Negan, Judith and rosita always had like 10 minutes of screen time every 6 episodes
It probably is Carl’s death especially since like you said that might be connected to Rick leaving. His death was also so pointless. They tried so hard to make his death meaningful, but he died fighting walkers he didn’t have to fight. I also don’t understand why people were so upset about Glenn’s death. I stopped watching the first time sometime after Alexandria. I went back later and was upset that I stopped before the Saviors were introduced because they were honestly one of, if not the best antagonists.
I love Carl’s character development and his role on the show. I’m still sad about the fact they had to kill Carl. Most people said they’d stop watching if glenn died. I can’t really blame them, Glenn was such a cool character on the show, besides his character improvement, he had such a role of not leaving anyone behind like it wasn’t even a choice and has a great soul. I’m pretty disappointed in that but i can’t really do anything about it so i just accepted it. Then another death came and it had to be Carl.
I've stopped watching the Walking Dead three times, the hospital arc, Glen's death, and Carl's death. I wasn't even a huge fan of Carl, but I do feel he was important to the show. I kept watching after Rick left, but mostly because I was so far in anyway. I think you got this one right.
I loved glen cause he was basically me when the show started and become pretty much the same dude I was when he died, a man who loves his family and wife so much that in his dying moment he said he'd find her knowing he would be pulled away from her yet again but this time in death. I would of done the exact same thing if I was killed like that in front of the future mother of my child. Let her know, yes am leaving but we will find each other again and not even death can stop that. So his death hurt me pretty bad, I didn't stop watching because I get why the character had to die. It pushed things along in the comics and did the same in the show, if nothing ever changes and no one ever dies things never change and the story doesn't move forward.
I personally think they should have put the last 3 seasons into 1 season to make it all fit more. Cause after carl died the best option would be to end the series a season later. Without rick having to die
Glenns death was crucial to the storyline. Glenn had to die. It would have been the biggest mistake if they let Glenn live. But Glenn was such a great character and Steven Yeun did such a great job as an actor portraying glenn which is Why i think it hit the fans the most.
I agree. I don't think fans stopped watching because they were mad they had to let Glenn die but that they were losing such a good actor and just didn't wanna watch it without him there.
Same. Killing off important s1 characters keeps the horror there. Any time theres a rick or carl scene its like oh dw nothing bad will ever happen to them bcuz plot ormor and the comics. Lol. Its ok to deviate from the comic sometimes especially when show carl sucks
I felt very similar about these! Personally I had stopped watching religiously after The Hospital Arc. It felt very dumb to kill Beth off like that? A pair of scissors when she was so close to her family? TBH it didn't make any sense for her character and they just wanted to give Daryl and Maggie Pain. After that I casually watched it, then it really took a huge hit when Glenn was killed. Honestly it really just made it less enjoyable? I understand Negan had to kill someone and it could have been Abe and maybe someone else? We already thought Glenn was dead by the dumpster...like come on? Carl was the final nail in the coffin and I stopped watching after that, which sucks because the cast is great. Love them. Had they treated, Beth, Glenn and Carl better I probably would have stuck around to see Rick leave.
I stopped when Negan got plot armored from being shot with a baseball bat taking a bullet... lost all sense of immersion. Felt like the writing of a two year old coming up with a supervillain 'twist'...
I genuinely couldn't watch anymore when Negan came in. The killing became too much for me. It was no longer about the world and the characters. It was all about murder.
I think killing off Dale was one of the first mistakes in "The Walking Dead". It's also tied to the Darabont issue, but it sets a presefent for all the characters killed just because.
@@Jade_902 he wanted to be killed off because his friend, Darabont, was fired, which was also another one of AMC's fuck ups. It's fine if you dislike Dale, but his character was so important, killing him off left a hole in the show. They had to replace him with Hershel and later with Bob since his role was still relevant during season 3, 4 and 5. That proves that killing him was a mistake.
@@Jade_902 i'm afraid it is. That's just how adaptations work. If you read the comics, you will know what i'm talking about, because they did the same with Andrea, Tyresse and Carl.
At the moment, one of the biggest mistakes is killing Lance. He has more potential than all the other characters. He could be the most cunning character on the show. The writers could use him in the spin-offs as an anti-hero.
Never ending theraphy sessions between characters was the worst for me. Plus i think it would be very interesting to see Karl's future development, he was the 1 character who grew up in Apocalypse
The biggest mistake was definitely the cliffhanger at the end of season 6. It pissed so many people off. After we saw who died, no one gave a shit and stopped watching.
1. Glenn and Maggie's story was the heart of the show. Glenn's death ripped the heart out of that show. For me, this is when the show stopped being must watch weekly TV. 2. Rick's motivation to protect Carl and raise him well in this new world was the driving force behind the show. I still don't get killing Carl for any reason. 3. Rick's death made no sense considering you just got rid of Carl! I get Andy Lincoln leaving for family reasons. Why not keep Carl around and level him up then??? Early on, this was one of my favorite shows ever...
I think they killed Carl off cuz they didn't want to pay more money as he was growing up, and Andy Lincoln leaving the show was because rick has lost everything and his main goal was to protect Carl, so when he died he had no point to continue, i heard that when he was told that Carl is going to die in the show he was shocked and couldnt talk, so he decided to leave not long after.
@@humblev7604 His character wasnt as important to the comics as it was for the tv show. If they had been making a faithful adaptation his death would had been destined. But that wasnt the case. It was pointless. Horrible story telling that favors shock value.
I don't understand how folks like Tara, the Hwymen, Henry, etc. couldn't fight off the whisperers. It's hard to imagine Tara kneeling still while Alpha chops her head off.
they loured them to the cabin/Barn where they felt safe because that was the kids secret little hideaway where they had secret party's . They then cut the backs of their hales to stop the running before cutting off their heads.
Agree, I was thinking about it today ironically, after watching the latest spinoff, the one based in Manhattan and I still felt what were they thinking of “killing of such a brilliant character. It was totally illogical
Personally, I loved everything up to Ricks death. It should've ended after Negan was slit in the throat, then just boiled down to a calm/sorrowful/grief filled end. After all it is a series based off a post apocalyptic world
Lowkey feel like killing both Abraham and Glenn at once was a mistake. Glenn dying is fine, but Abraham was literally the only “jokeful” and sarcastic one there, so him also dying made it straight serious from then on
Couldn't disagree more! Glenns death was brutal but just great for the story as a whole. Carl was way to prominent and it was more than time to put away with this character. While Negan was an absolutely great highlight! He made the show interresting again and was by far the best villain! But yes - the hospital season was utter crap! I didn't like the whole whisperer thing either.
The appearance of Negan does change everything. it was NEVER about Ricks group again, Negan became the ONLY character that mattered to the writers from them on.
i agree...Negan seasons where the downfall because every episode seemed the same, they just alternated who won in the episodes. The show lost its focus for the future and was stuck in the "right now ". I said for the last few years. 1. They needed to kill a young child off without being bitten. This way they can see if whatever started it was passed down to kids and they would have a better chance of finding a cure. 2. they need someone to get bitten and hide it. This way they can see if there is immunity and once again, look for a cure. So im actully happy its over although the last season really sucked, the ending sucked, and all the spin-offs sucked
Glenn's death was needed. It felt like that the main characters are invincible by plot armor, and that episode just showed us its no longer an option to think an important character is safe from any harm.
In my headcanon, the tv show ends when they arrive at Alexandria. it was before the show went downhill so you get to end it on a high note, and this was where they originally planned to end the comics before it was such a massive success. I have to think of it this way because this was my favorite show, no other show will ever be able to replicate the feeling I got watching seasons 1-5 and how invested I was in it. If you want the story of what really happened after Alexandria you just read the comic books. After the Negan, Alpha, and Commonwealth conflicts happen, the world slowly starts turning back to normal, Carl grows up to be a badass man with an eyepatch. This is the real ending of The Walking Dead.
I think glenns death was neccasry, however Abrahams wasn't. Glenns arc was done and he would have not brought anything further to the plot. It was necessary as well to make negan a terrifying villian. But carls death was easily the worst choice in the shows history and one of the biggest mistakes in tv history. All of the walking dead and what rick was doing was for Carl. Without carl rick would have not done any of it. And rick further leaving the show brought the show to the lowest point. Judith is good and all but without the grimes family there is no walking dead.
What bothered me the most on the show, was that after this huge entrance of Negan, his character went straight south. After his appearance, he turned straight from a bat-butcher to a non-stop-talker.
I'm still wondering what the full story is behind Chandler Riggs' exit. They were setting him up to be a long term cast member and then just decided to cut him loose. Something happened and no one seems to have any idea what it was. Edit: Nevermind. "Ultimately, Riggs was axed from The Walking Dead not because the actor was ready to leave or the character was out of stories, but because former showrunner Scott M. Gimple needed to give Rick some motivation to keep Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) around." So basically they fucked him over only to end up losing Andrew Lincoln as well. Serves them right.
Solid picks. For me, I LOVED the show early on, stuck with it through the more filler/mediocre stuff because of the bond with the original crew - the development of Glenn, Carl and Rick was so compelling that you just really wanted to root for them. When Rick exited, that was the last episode I watched. Daryl would be the only reason to continue, but whilst I love his character and the acting, I feel like he excels in scenes with others, so alone it's not quite enough reason to watch. Honourable mention to JDM for the incredible job he did portraying Negan.
Something to note is the replacements for a killed off character. Here are some cases in which a character got substituted by another good character: As bad as Glenn's death was (which is mainly because unlike in the comics it was an unnecessary death), the replacement was Negan - easily one of the greatest characters of the show (he wasn't part of the group but he got introduced in the same episode Glenn died and became one of the main roles). Andrea' spot in the group got taken by Michonne, who was a way better character. Tyreese death was also a bad decision, but Abraham managed to fill that hole. Hershel became the voice of reason when Dale died and he did quite a good job at it. Now onto some of the more horrible replacements: Beth's character was unique. She could've replaced Sophia, who just like Carl was supposed to live until the end but her actor got nightmares so she had to quit. Instead Beth got replaced by Noah who not only was a lame character but also died not too long after. Carl was the future of TWD and the only character who could've replaced Rick when he was eventually killed off. But he died so Siddiq could take his place. And Siddiq wasn't a particularly good character either and got killed off in Season 10 by another character who would die immediately after, so that's a waste. Carl's role as Rick's legacy was also taken over by Judith, whom I had no interest in whatsoever. It took many seasons to develop Carl into the complex character he had become and with Judith they basically started again from scratch. Henry, the adoptive son of Carol and Ezekiel, could be considered the protagonist of Season 8 as his relationship with Lydia, Alphas daughter, was one of the bigger plot points. It all hinted that he would become an important member of the community whereas Lydia would probably die. Yet in a mayor Plottwist Henry was one of the many characters that got suddenly killed off to show how dangerous Alpha is. After that Lydia stayed in the community and she felt completely out of place now without the two characters that made her character important.
Noah wasn't lame, He's interesting , He was interested in Architecture , he wanted to rebuild Alexandria , but ofc the writers loved killing POC in the early szns. His friendship with tara , beth , glenn was also pretty sweet . He was kinda the new moral support for the group , Also selfless , and one of the most chillest dudes in the show . He never got into any altercations , (except the daryl part) .
It's not a rumor that they killed him off because of pay. They flat out TOLD HIM he was safe for AT LEAST 3 more seasons. He bought a house closer to filming location because of the guarantee to make the in between of seasons easier on him and his family, turned 18, asked to be paid as an adult star now, not a child star (children don't make anywhere close to what adult actors make), and then they told him he was being killed off that season after some "deliberation" after the ask. Andrew Lincoln and the Danai also announced their leaving of the show after they stated Chandler was dying in the season he did. While I'm sure Andrew did miss his family, make no mistake he quit because of how they treated Chandler in that instance. It was complete BS and he and Danai knew it.
I personally don't think he was weak he just had morals, I think, like gabriel, corruption arc would've gone so hard
dale was the best character season 1 too. They had such a good story going with him and andrea.
@@Brent22 Agreed - I lost a lot of interest when Dale was killed. When they did the same to Hershel, "I'm out! Call me when you're done!"

I guess they didn't have even one single wise person who could
convince him into it.
Yep. His dad said they led him to think otherwise and he had just bought a house in Atlanta. Terrible decision. Should have fired Scott
So lame to base the character and story arc on a few bucks when they made a bloody fortune on the shows..
Dumb bitches, that ended up costing them viewership, still pissed they erased him
Even it was mentioned that the series was having its differences to the comic, killing Carl was going waaay too far. We saw how much he lived and survive being a child/teen, just to be bitten by 2 walkers while saving a guy that died 2 seasons later (don't even remember the guys name)...
siddiq, it's siddiq.
I don't think carl was even saving That guy. He was pointlessly killing random walkers with him for "honoring" that guy's mom

Your reasons were spot on. Exactly how I felt. Left when Glenn died and then came back eventually only to be disappointed again with Carls death.

They did it because gimple thought rick needed a reason to not kill negan, even though he already had one.

It's strange how much AMC blundered through the production of TWD and yet it's still so popular... they really toed the line with how reckless they were (are.)

no one’s mentioning the fact that they saved negan after everything he did
The thing that killed the walking dead isn't one thing, but it's a multitude of things.
Season 10 was awful didn’t like the writing there parts of 9 too
What I also hated about the writing is the lack of consistency, it's as if they didn't even remember what they wrote
@@lyssa5606 Yes... true I agree with you... he was the only and most important kid from the first...
The actor who played Carl also wanted to try something else than acting
I feel u *Sending virtual hug*
Pointless deaths that killed the show for me. Beth, Carl, Enid.
Time to get off”
This is a creative explanation ngl
Me and my family loved watching this series SO MUCH. Then while waiting for the next episodes, we saw a picture spoiler where Glenn was dying/had died. We got so disappointed, we stopped anticipating for the show anymore. After not watching TWD for months, we thought it couldn't get worst, we heard Carl also died. 🤡 So much wasted potential 🤦
@@1sugarplum971 they started doing too much and took too many good characters Away. Couldn’t expect their core fan base to stick around after that.

Yo fr. Definitely. You put it so well! After Rick was seemingly killed off, that’s when my family and I stopped watching FOR REAL
Cheers to the content kid, solid video.

im not readin allat. but i agree
The ending should've been EXACTLY where the comic issue ended: Negan walking off casually and saying,"Ta ta."

Was so happy when he got killed
Say what you want about the 7th and 8th seasons, but the perfect ending is this: Carl is still alive, and when Rick is about to kill Negan on the hill, he does, finally killing the saviors. Then, they live on to continue surviving, fighting off walkers until they either all die, or begin civilazation again.
THANK YOU!
What gets me about Carl’s death is that if they knew they weren’t going to stick to the comics why did they kill Glen off. They shot themselves in the foot and have no one to blame but the writers for the decline of twd fan base.
it was all very successful they don't give a rat's ass what you think or the other snowflakes.
What happened in season 2 was that AMC was not ready to spend a lot of money on the series after the first season. The first season had been given a lot of funding and hence we saw a lot of scenes with various backgrounds and sets, but is season 2, there was only one set and max 4 characters on the screen
That says a lot about the series potential, the season with less founding and production behind is still one of the best till this day
Regarding Negans introduction kills, I think that if only Abraham died, it would’ve made his much more impactful as no one cares about his death as everyone cries over Glenn, and it would’ve been interesting to see how Glenn would’ve fit during the all out war
I wanted Abe to die at the end of season 6 to give that time to be like damn negan is Fr for us to come back and think eveyone was safe only for them to kill Glenn as wel. Would’ve gave them both their respected time for their deaths…

True... Killing Carl was so stupid
Based on how badly AMC screwed Frank over budget wise I'd bet money that they fired Chandler to avoid paying him more
That was definitely the case but also because Chandler was vocal in complaining about his pay he was an example for the rest of the actors.
However, Glenn's death was great for story development but it was painful since glenn was the glue of the show
Glenn in the comics died by the same thing in the show, so I guess it makea sense.
@@Bowlore another thing Glenn I think is still the only character to get their comic book death too

I mean, Negan does carry the show after Rick left
it's weird I really thought i wouldn't like it based on clips i watched, but then I tried S9 and I like it and even like Negan who was the reason I stopped watching the show.

Also with other supporting characters, although a big loss, it wasn't a pivotal one
However I personally tapped out when Carl died and never watched another episode after that. I'm aware that Judith became the de facto "future" of the apocalypse, but at that point like others had mentioned, also killed a part of Rick in the sense that he basically put forward an oath to ensuring his survival (Up til the end of the comic where Rick met his end). Very crummy way to kill off a character, and a very pivotal one at that
To each their own though.
@@jamesbell1613 How was Glenn's death lame? It was easily one of the most brutal, shocking, emotional and memorable moments on the entire show.

The biggest mistake was giving the show to AMC. What AMC did to the main show and then later fear was so lame to see.
just imagine glenn surviving till season 11, just how much he could've change and how his insanity goes up
Carl could have saved the show after rick left
Finally somebody that's not delusional and knows they fired Chandler because he's a horrible actor.
Totally agree with you! Killing off Carl makes no sense!
Carls death was the worst. Glenn’s actor wanted to leave but carls actor bought a house and planned to stay
i will forever be mad at amc for carls death and the reasoning is pathetic
Carl and Glenn were definitely defining moments. They were viewer favorites! To see them die was too much for many fans.
I feel like I'm one of the few who didn't care about Glenn and Carl dying
Same. Killing off important s1 characters keeps the horror there. Any time theres a rick or carl scene its like oh dw nothing bad will ever happen to them bcuz plot ormor and the comics. Lol. Its ok to deviate from the comic sometimes especially when show carl sucks
carl was set up to be a leader, and it was gonna be great, then we get fucking maggie in charge?
But there was a point to it.
They should had maintained Rick's beard in all seasons,it was the source of his strength~
Absolutely s5 Rick was untouchable
I think killing off Dale was one of the first mistakes in "The Walking Dead". It's also tied to the Darabont issue, but it sets a presefent for all the characters killed just because.
yep i said the same thing back then. He was the most interesting character in the whole show to that point
He wanted to be killed off. Plus, his character was so annoying, IMHO.
@@elsorzis5692 Calm down. It’s not that deep.
I agree but don't agree because I didn't really like him and I think it would be weird if he wasn't killed.
He also could have been a bridge between the main show and the CRM
yeah they have a habit of killing off the new characters who have the most potential to be interesting. it's like the writers think we're stupid,
Met Carl, he seemed pretty grateful to have been in the show, but I could totally sense a slight bitterness to being bumped off
Never ending theraphy sessions between characters was the worst for me.
Glenn was destined to die, he’s one of the biggest deaths in the comics so they weren’t going to change it
I think they killed Carl off cuz they didn't want to pay more money as he was growing up, and Andy Lincoln leaving the show was because rick has lost everything and his main goal was to protect Carl, so when he died he had no point to continue, i heard that when he was told that Carl is going to die in the show he was shocked and couldnt talk, so he decided to leave not long after.
Glenn dying is fine, but Abraham was literally the only “jokeful” and sarcastic one there, so him also dying made it straight serious from then on
The show had tons of issues that kept it from being good. We need a reboot in 12 years that is flawless
I agree. At least revamp it to include Carl in the final seasons
Agree with the first part, countless Disney remake flashbacks with the second part.
That would make it a whole different show the show was never about a cure it was about trying to survive in a world that was almost uninhabitable
Judith is good and all but without the grimes family there is no walking dead.
judith shoulda died with her mother.
Lol
Maggie being any kind of leader killed it. She wasn't good after losing Glen and suddenly growing into this cold-blooded gang leader.
He just left to go to college, and they see that has an opportunity to do the time jump it would not have worked with him not ageing 7 years.
I think the biggest mistake in all of the walking dead is Michonne never repaying Morgan for that protein bar.
Carl's death was by far the biggest mistake.
Here are some cases in which a character got substituted by another good character:
As bad as Glenn's death was (which is mainly because unlike in the comics it was an unnecessary death), the replacement was Negan - easily one of the greatest characters of the show (he wasn't part of the group but he got introduced in the same episode Glenn died and became one of the main roles).
Andrea' spot in the group got taken by Michonne, who was a way better character.
Tyreese death was also a bad decision, but Abraham managed to fill that hole.
Hershel became the voice of reason when Dale died and he did quite a good job at it.
Now onto some of the more horrible replacements:
Beth's character was unique.
Noah wasn't lame,
He's interesting , He was interested in Architecture , he wanted to rebuild Alexandria , but ofc the writers loved killing POC in the early szns.
