"I personally believe that Linux as a desktop operating system still has a long way to go, and it may be many years before it reaches its full potential."
In what way? What is missing and what can't it do? It runs on the same hardware. The mouse acts the same, the keyboard is the same. The Desktop is fully customizable to look and act like anything you can imagine. There are no adverts or keyloggers. You data goes where you want it to go and no where else. The Internet email and browsers behave the same. But you believe it needs 2 years to do what? What potential are you talking about? Name the new features you see that Linux cannot do. I don't think spyware will ever be part of Linux and there are no subscription charges. You can donate whatever amount you like. All it takes is a little backbone to learn to use something new but that is too much effort. Best you stay with M$, they need your money.
Linux is not always better, you have to choose for what purpose u use your system. But i use linux and never looked back :D i use nixos with hyprland btw
tbh Linux distro's do replace A LOT of stuff already. NTSync is also gonna change Linux gaming for the better and my only concern is some windows-only programs and SteamVR games. (I still can't figure out how to get SteamVR to run smoothly on Linux. it either doesn't work at all or it runs poorly because of downgrading and alternative solutions)
@ that requires you to passthrough your GPU through that, which is a whole 'nother problem. And even then it would legit be even slower than having a dual-boot of windows.
@ The problem is, Windows is going down the hill of greedy business practices and Linux needs to make their come back. Linux distro's are capable of doing a lot of things that Windows can. Just not the VR part (in my experience). They do have programs to get it working but Meta Quest 3 isn't helping me. (Sure, Meta is also a greedy business but they do make fairly good vr headsets for the price. People gotta make more self-tracking vr headsets honestly) My point is that I want to see Linux dominating in popularity rather than Windows. Windows has broken my trust more than ever now and this should not be put to the side with a simple "That's why every system serves its purpose". Ignoring the bloatware and privacy problems behind modern day Windows is not right.
I uninstalled cortana right away and might uninstall onedrive, too. That on the Win11 installation on a usb I sometimes boot from in my otherwise Linux laptop. Last year was my switch to Linux year and I am glad for it.
Totally agree, Linux Mint 22 household here. The problem with the slow growth of Linux is the retail market is aimed at Windows or MAC.....no Linux option is available at the retail stores as the PC manufactures are giving kick backs to the retail stores to sell their hardware....which comes preloaded with windows.
I can tell you. It's because a lot of people aren't prepared to put up with Microsoft's BS any longer. And once I've got everything sorted out, I'll be there too. The Windows 10 I have will be clean re-installed and just used for games, while everything else will be Linux.
Proton makes it fairly okay-ish to run games there, even non-Steam titles... I've been running ZZZ, Genshin Impact and others fairly well + ran pirated Ace Combat Assault Horizon and Subnautica, BeamNG, ETS2, while there are as well those that don't run (like Nikke) Still, it's speedrunning in the direction of working well.
Microsoft Edge That's the reason, it just keeps setting itself as the default and syncing bookmarks without your permission, not to mention it's really difficult to uninstall completely.
As an aside. I installed Chrome OS on an old laptop. I had to remove the Windows NVMe because Chrome OS doesn't support dual boot. The older version does if you can find it. I spent a morning updating etc. I then removed it, put the NVMe back in, did a diskpart and removed it. It is not the same as a Chrome laptop, a lot of features missing. Used Microsoft since MSDos.
No they’re not. Very few frustrated and edgy individuals are. Businesses would like to but they can’t move away from AD, Office 365, Remote Desktop, Software compatibility issues.
Unfortunately there are problems with support. Linux have many distributors and they work limited time and after finished time you are on your on and must go to another or replace hardware because not supported by internet providers.
Not a bad video, but I would replace Ubuntu with Mint as the recommended distro for beginners. Also on the community, the Windows community also exists and in vast numbers to help people even if it looks like an emotional support group for people suffering Microsoft's tyranny together. Windows users aren't usually left alone when they need to find help when it breaks.
Most printers work seamlessly on Linux these days. A little online research will tell you. Perhaps you don't know, but many Linux versions let you boot live from USB. You can then test all your hardware to be sure it works for you. One of the best is MX Linux; this also allows you to run from USB in a special mode that saves all your changes, so the next time you boot from the USB you can carry on where you left off. Doing this will not affect your currently-install OS in any way.
As long as its not Fortnite or Destiny 2 you can run anything on Linux, probably even with better performance. However, there are occasions where you need to tinker some settings
I have a 2018 HP all-in-one wth touch screen. Very good nice computer . Thanks to WIN 11 it's a very large paper weight. So i ordered a mini PC and new monitor all for less then $300. Then i put Linux mint on the HP. After a time working with Linux i was able to get it to work just like Windows its better than windows 11. Don't knock Linux, do your research. You can make it work just as good as Win 11
Hummm... Lets see. I count 8 different flavours of Linux on my Dull Inspiron notebook and ZERO Microsoft anything, so maybe it's because one type of OS puts the fun back into personal computing while the other feels like getting bullied after paying for it.
Linux is more secure and there are less viruses etc.? The more secure thing depends on the user, if you installing some shi.. on linux or configure it incorrectly you will be just as screwed as with windows. the virus thing is because of the marketshare it's just not interesting enough for hackers and people like that. why they should write viruses for linux if the can make more damage with windows viruses? if linux had the same market share as windows there would be as many viruses for linux as for windows and with linux, the hackers wouldn't even have to try because the source code is open and accessible to everyone. I absolutely agree with all the other points, which is why I also use linux ... ;-)
For those who are not "techies" or just "newbies" to Linux- you can (for Free) DL, Install and use Linux "Mint"; which is made for you and easy to install. And, as you learn Linux more; you can move on to even more powerful versions of Linux.
For most people without any special needs linux is the way to go! I type this on a Optiplex 780 from 2009 running Linux Mint, which runs more than fine for my job and everyday tasks... My Win10 i7@4.4Ghz is now used for games only...
It's a shame Linux hasn't been adopted by some hardware manufacturers to the extent of MS & App!e Hence some drivers ... (a) don't exist (b) are quirky or don't work and (c) work for 80% of the hardware features. As an example, under Linux Mint, my WiFi Epson printer/scanner works for printing remotely but the Linux driver doesn't even "see" the scanner.
These OS are just tools. Gaming, video, sound, and photo editing, I go with Windows. For programming and IT related tasks, I use Linux. No need to be religious on what OS I use.
They are soooo close to having a gaming version with distros like Pop-OS! I need to switch and I gave tried before I am just not tech enough to get dual boot working for things I have to use windows for.
excuses, excuses .. then take the time to learn and learn how to. That is of course if Freedom, Privacy and Security of you and your Family, Children and Friends matter to you - if they don't; then you really don't care about and love them as you tell them you do and also; then I'm glad I don't know you.
A huge reason is that people have perfectly good computers running Windows 10 that can't upgrade to Windows 11 and will soon lose all support from Microsoft! So they must either buy a new computer IF they can afford one or switch to something else...Linux! This is all Microsoft's doing!
I've used Windows since literally it was a thing. I've also used Unix before Linux existed and then Linux since the 0.xx days. All of them do some things well and some things not as well as others. There is no reason to be religious about it... use them all (I currently have both a dedicated Linux and a dedicated Windows box at home... not including various RaspberryPis, retro machines, etc.)
linux community is the best and worst part. Some are willing to help, others are toxic and expect windows refugees to know all about the convoluted file system, and what the /etc folder is for and how its different from /bin. All of this was hidden behiend c:\windows and never was seen by most windows users yet they get their heads chewed off for asking simple questions on the forums. Result.... They stay with windows and giving up their personal info.
Sadly at work I am still forced to Use Fucking Windows 😩Because the company Software dosent Run on Linux But on my Home Computer I use Linux since 4 years and I never want to go back
In windows many apps and also crack version available we can play as you like , but Linux not like that, if you want to drink water why particularly choosing steel glass
? I cannot do most my stuff on Linux. Tested it for over a year. If Linux becomes more favorable towards games and windows applications, it is fine. But I have security programs (CCTV) don't run on Linux yet. And I cannot do my work testing if there is no interface
Because it is Free and Open Source Software. People make software that they want to use, and share it at no cost. Instead of buying eg Windows Office, you make an alternative Office, which is free. You can support Linux programmers via donations.
Yeah but... ARE people jumping to Linux? Lots of reasons to jump but people do tend to stick with what they know and what their "Can you do it for me?" friends recommend.
Linux is not for everyone, but at least there is an alternative for Windows, Mac. Switched to Linux in 2017 and never used Windows again. MX Linux Xfce as daily driver. Does everything I need it to do.
Using Bottles, most of the software I've tried has run fine. I've only ever found one crappy game that wouldn't run, and things like modern photoshop, and things with weird custom guis can be an issue, but there are open source alternatives for pretty much everything that are excellent.
I use all three, Linux, Windows & MacOS. I personally do not like macOS even if the price was the same as PC's with Linux or Windows . I bought the latest MacBook with the M4 Max for Christmas, but after about a week of using it, I put it away in a cupboard. To me, it feels more like an iPad's big brother. You need to purchase around 10 additional apps just to do things that Windows/Linux handles out of the box. Trying macOS after using Windows/Linux for 30 years felt like stepping back in time to Windows 95-limited and restrictive compared to the capabilities of Windows / Linux.
That is a bit of a sweeping statement! I started using Linux more than 20 years ago as a hobby. I've gradually increased the amount I do on Linux to about 99% I can do a fresh install of the version I use, add the small amount of additional software I need (for free), configure it how I like it to use, all in under an hour.
"I personally believe that Linux as a desktop operating system still has a long way to go, and it may be many years before it reaches its full potential."
It has a year or two to go.
In what way? What is missing and what can't it do? It runs on the same hardware. The mouse acts the same, the keyboard is the same. @__Merchant you could make separate vm on windows for games for ex
@ that requires you to passthrough your GPU through that, which is a whole 'nother problem. And even then it would legit be even slower than having a dual-boot of windows.
@__Merchantsee, that is why I am saying that every system serves it’s purpose:D

Yes, linux is better.
I disagree 😒

Microsoft Edge

I would suggest Endeavoir OS for Windows users wanting to change over
I,ve just switched to ubuntu.takes a bit of learning,but making a start
As an aside. I installed Chrome OS on an old laptop. I had to remove the Windows NVMe because Chrome OS doesn't support dual boot. The older version does if you can find it. How many package managers does linux really need? Apt, yum, flatpak, etc?
I am using Fedora 41 and Linux mint 22.1 in my laptop and desktop. I use Windows OS which is in bulit in my office laptop. Awesome video❤👌👍👍👍
I won't compare them but i need basic features like video player, web browser, pdf reader etc, so zoris os is good for me.
i like my zorin on my desktop and ubuntu mate on my laptop. They both are great.
The main thing blocking me from moving to Linux is security because Linux is an open system, i.e., it is free.
No they’re not. Very few frustrated and edgy individuals are. Businesses would like to but they can’t move away from AD, Office 365, Remote Desktop, Software compatibility issues.
Short answer : no
Long answer : it depends on your workflow
As a 20 year exclusively Linux user I watch these videos to have a laugh
Unfortunately there are problems with support. Linux have many distributors and they work limited time and after finished time you are on your on and must go to another or replace hardware because not supported by internet providers.

This. Snap packages were a mistake. Mint is basically what Ubuntu used to be before it lost its way, except Cinnamon is much better than Unity.
If I switch to LInux, what about my printer?
Basic functions will probably work. Search "linux " to find out more ?
Most printers work seamlessly on Linux these days. A little online research will tell you.

try Educating Computers or EC on yt the Zorin episode.
My Xerox works out of the box, double side colour printing and easy document scanning
Printer worked out of the box and Linux Mint came with CUPS so that it would do so.
How about gaming I have no experience with Linux is it compatible with lastest games ?
As long as its not Fortnite or Destiny 2 you can run anything on Linux, probably even with better performance. However, there are occasions where you need to tinker some settings
Better performance only with AMD GPU
If I could get on1 raw to run I would switch all the way for the time i only use it for surfing but it is super fast

Linux is so much better, does not intrude on your privacy, has zero bloatware and works fine on almost any PC or laptop....and it is free!
@daveyoung9090 How's the app store?
Was very limited when I had it. (7-8 years ago)
Linux should be better but windows work alot better for me

Linux maybe free, but repurchsing most of the apps I run on Windows to move makes it financially prohibitive.
for games it is just like someone speak not native language ,but better than people of this language
no more play by word

I use CachyOS. Has a 1 button installer for all the gaming packages you'll need, and it works great for gaming. The performance is excellent.
Windows is nuts. A stupid data acquiring OS. Also giving too much bloatwares by reducing system performance even after paying money.

Yeah
I like the information, I don't like the AI voice, AI voices shouldn't be normalized, its a bad thing.
I like linux and if it means moving away from all these american tech billionaires then i think its a good thing

Downside,Unable to refresh in Linux u have to restart application or your pc if you left for sometime
Can't someone just make Linux fully windows software compatible???
it is hard because of the difference between unix and windows ways to interact with your hardware
Using Bottles, most of the software I've tried has run fine. I've only ever found one crappy game that wouldn't run, and things like modern photoshop, and things with weird custom guis can be an issue, but there are open source alternatives for pretty much everything that are excellent.
Use a virtual machine in Linux instead
I'm pretty sure the makers of the Windows software who be running to their lawyers!
Are you sure? funny.... 😂😂😂😂
Mac is better, sorry, linux ( federa, ubuntu, mint, etc) has huge problems, need ton of work its useless and mainly for experiment.

Nice propaganda video.
