Just wait until you're old and infirm and experience the 'return to base' when your successful adult children have to move in with you and provide care.
The part where he screams at the other guy in the helicopter for leaving the young lass behind is for me the peak moment of steven’s transition. Couldn’t possibly be anymore of a man. What a king!

Would have been funny if the dude started beating the "Zombies" to death... Goes full Rick Grimes stile, stabbing their brains... Ian just stands there watching Sarah's brains splatter against the floor!
I'm almost a year late to the game, was anyone else crying the whole time for Steven? It seems that almost all humans have the capacity to become a better person, no matter how empty and weak and cold they may seem. His dedication to helping Leona was the most inspiring part of his transformation. He was once the baby, but he grew up quick to help a child. He's different inside, and so am I, for having seen this. --Loved the last scene! Thank you Derren, I'm definitely a new fan.
Honestly dont know why people think this is fake, what would be the point in the planning and money required to pull this off, and then use an actor - why wouldnt you want to give someone this amazing experience
Same reason you'd set it all up and use actors in any other show. If this were reasonably possible, sure, may as well do it. But this went over the course of days, and he had a million opportunities to ruin it. Too big a budget to leave so much to chance.
Ironclaw XII Jesus, don't mess with this guy! If you believe this is a kid which he probably is then why do you go out of your way to be cruel to him? Got nothing better to do? Go back to Iraq if this is the way you act towards people for no reason
Not saying this is fake (though I have my suspicions), but... four words: “RATINGS AND AD REVENUE” No offense, but you seem a bit too young and/or naive based on the way you think.
There is a saying that "all hypnosis is self hypnosis" … though obviously some people do "go deeper" than others and presumably their ability/willingness to "go deep" is one of Derren's traits to select for... I skip/speed watched it, but I caught Steven's "love you mom" cam diary prior to leaving the sanctuary, which, I assume he was "instructed" to do ? Likely there were other "glitches" but when the ambulance door locked open the zombies presumably had to slow their roll so as not to catch up with the open doored "escape vehicle"
@LVXH Entertainment is full of lies, fakery and cover ups. Magicians have made life long careers from tricks. All reality shows are fake. Just think of all the actors in reality shows that keep quiet. TV shows pay these people a lot of money and make them sign non-disclosure contracts. If they expose the show they can be sued. People in the entertainment industry want to get more work, and they dont want to get sued, thats enough to keep them quiet. I think the acting was bad, he didnt even swear once, or even ask questions. He calmly followed. Imagine being in that situation, I would be like "what the fuck is going on"? I would be asking questions, this show was just unrealistic.
In a way, when you think about it, it doesn't matter if it's fake. In fact, it's very likely it is. Something like this takes thousands of hours and dollars/pounds to create and there's so much potential to go wrong at every step of the way. You can't tell what someone might do when under that much duress. What if he got into shock and just stood there, letting them bite him? Worse yet what if he used Ian or the girl as a decoy to escape, or sneak off with the van during the night? What if he talked about the meteors to someone who wasn't in on it; surely everyone he met for two weeks wasn't. What if he woke up when his brother went into the room? It all goes to waste. But you might ask, why do I think it doesn't matter? Because in a way, Darren Brown, at least in my mind, is playing the fourth wall breaking long game here. He's tricking us into believing the actor is being tricked into believing the situation he is in, is real. But still, the same way we as viewers connect with the protagonists of a tv show or movie, inadvertently placing ourselves in their shoes, laugh at the comedic situations they get into, tear up when sad situations happen, similarly, watching this made each of us consider if we appreciated those around us more, what we would do in the situations the protagonist encountered. It's not as strong as if we were there physically in person, but it's distributed throughout the whole audience of his show so the effect is more far reaching. While most of us may just watch it and forget about it, statistically there would be some of us that found it life changing and made them turn their lives around. In a way, we are the test subjects of Darren's little shows.
Xavier Azurro Like you said, this takes effort and time. If you actually listened to part 1, you would know this took weeks and many applicants were screened and Steven was chosen because he proved the most suitable for it
Darren Brown has taught me to question things and, just watching it, I found myself questioning whether or not Steven was an actor. Overall, this was a really great show.

Just wait until you're old and infirm and experience the 'return to base' when your successful adult children have to move in with you and provide care.
Nathan T great comment. ❤️
This was one of the most glorious things i ever saw 😂 it was Amazing. I wish there would be more Stuff like this
The part where he screams at the other guy in the helicopter for leaving the young lass behind is for me the peak moment of steven’s transition. Couldn’t possibly be anymore of a man. What a king!
42:54 ahahahaha of course it's '28 days later'. Nice touch Derren
Low key gonna cry when Steve and Ian hugged. So bloody emotional
I seriously wonder what this whole thing cost to put together and how much it actually affected him later on down the line...
1 - probably quite a lot
2 - probably quite a lot
I would have ruined this show in about 3 seconds.
jason210ification Same. The scientific inaccuracies in the first few minutes would have me calling b.s. Waking up in a semi-clinic with no intravenous fluids and being told it's been fourteen days? That's not how science works. Good day. I said good day!
Janine Gagnier well yeah , but after all that happened , you're not gonna think about that.
Janine Gagnier the whole worlds gone to chaos millions infected and dead but ohhhh the humanity, where is my intravenous fluids
Man this thing had me in tears
38:19 “You’ve just been pranked by the prank patrol”
I wouldn’t call this a prank. This probably changed the rest of his life. It’s a gift. Hopefully people that watch this and act like Steven, hopefully they can use his situation to see that everything is precious and that you can’t take anything for granted
True - Derren said on a podcast that he trained to be a teacher and got married, not necessarily all to do with this experience but at least it played a part.
@@MrMongoose221 Good on him. He was fortunate to be chosen, but he did seem to have a kind heart so glad he has made something of himself. The time and effort put in by everyone to change one man was extraordinary- hopefully others watching learned lessons too.
this is better than a real zombie film!!!!
But it is a real zombie film. Even if you believe Stephen isn't an actor, everyone else is. I am not convinced this is meant to be taken as real.
And the Emmy for best supporting actor in a drama mini series goes to..............Steve from Derren Brown's Apocalypse..Congrats.
Wynand Britz Damn, you honestly believe he acted? No, it wasn't an act. Go watch the first part, if you don't understand
@@playeronegamervloger9762 Of course, he acted. He didn't notice all the camera crew all over, operating the equipment? The mics planted all over? So, he's an idiot...
@@d3ci.b3L they were hidden cameras. Your the idiot.
@@playeronegamervloger9762 and to you, he was joking. The best actor is someone who dosent realise that they are acting.
@@idfsg533 "Your the idiot." says the person who spells "you're" as "your". Okay, I shouldn't pick on such a blatant error. Easily made. I've done it, two. (Sarcasm)
But seriously... Hidden stationary cameras, sure. But hidden, fully equipped with an operator and a boom mic? How do you think we, the viewers, are able to so clearly hear the actors through closed windows and doors? But furthermore, what about the continuity error? It was pointed out in another comment.
That image of the two leaving the compound into the unknown... Absolutely BREATHTAKING
INTO THE UNKNOWN!!!!!!!!
Dude this should be a movie genre like having people be In these moments without them knowing it's a movie.
NOOOOOOOOOO IAN WHYYY I KNOW ITS NOT REAL BUT WHYYYYY
It's EXTREMELY rare that I get emotional after watching, well, anything really, but the ending of this actually made me tear up. Well done Derren Brown, well done sir.
Have gotten a Lee& Clementine type of vibe seeing those two ngl
that's just how good the girl was man!!!!!
22. little girl is older than steven. man srzly LOL i remember when i 1st watched this 5+ years ago. man. good times.
Then you better bury me deep, because if I come back I’ll come for you first.
Holy shit that was awesome.
The amount of time and set up that went into that...
Incredible!!!
I would love to have that kind of experience!
Kevin Stein You would love to have an experience where you lose all of your personal belongings and is emotionally traumatizing? Seems like a lot of fun
WAIT the "little girl" was 22? WHAT THE FUCK
McAwesome01 McAwesome01 I know right?!
This beats any zombie movie ever. This is on the level of the last of us
Well, he won’t be snatching the TV remote anymore! That’s for sure. This is absolutely heart warming in all honesty. “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone!” Like the quotes Derren was using at the start of the first episode!
This was awesome in all ways. I showed the new show on Netfix and that was awesome too. I wish you guyz for your best luck for all your production team and players.
Netfix? Do they fix Netflix?
I still can’t believe how amazing he is
Imagine if this was made as a whole series, and there was a new episode every day, and the whole month of intense days and creepy infected... he had no idea he was being filmed, and all of his fellow survivors and friends were all actors! Wow.
Steven if your reading this, your bravery has shown us all something today, your courage and leadership, may god be with you
I know it's fake but I started crying with Ian and Sarah.
Bob Treduis It's not fake... it was real, bro
10 out of 10 episode. Thank you Derren, Steven and everyone involved. You gave us all a glimpse of what the best side of us all looks like, it's nice to be reminded sometimes.
Would have been funny if the dude started beating the "Zombies" to death... Goes full Rick Grimes stile, stabbing their brains... Ian just stands there watching Sarah's brains splatter against the floor!
he doesn't say much does he. I'd be asking that guy so many questions.
That's because it's fake as fuck
Not saying this is fake (though I have my suspicions), but... four words: “RATINGS AND AD REVENUE”
No offense, but you seem a bit too young and/or naive based on the way you think.
AAAH I WISH THIS WAS A MOVIE! I'm actually crying about the video for his family.
If you actually listened to part 1, you would know this took weeks and many applicants were screened and Steven was chosen because he proved the most suitable for it
I agree that this can't be real. But like you, I think that it doesn't stop it being brilliant.
Darren Brown has taught me to question things and, just watching it, I found myself questioning whether or not Steven was an actor. Overall, this was a really great show.
Oh man, that ending got me right in the feels. Wowza! That was one heck of an incredible production. I'm thoroughly impressed.
Poor lad. Worst birthday ever 😂
that shot of them walking at the end looks and feels like a season finale. I honestly feel like this could have been a legit Netflix series.
I just cried. I know the the pain to lost the family. What a great people, what a great mind. I respect to all be the part of it.
38:45-39:05 reminds me of the end of the Black Mirror episode, "White Bear".
Muhanna Abaalkhail Shit you right
hi i was searching for this comment so thanks
Simply remarkable..... words can’t express thee emotions I felt watching this.....
I can't stop watching and then re watching all of these videos and like films on Netflix omfg this man is just so... Entertaining, intriguing and straight up amazing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Found this after listening to a podcast interview with Steven 10 years later. He said it was the best thing that ever happened to him and he now is married and is a special needs teacher. He says Derren Brown checked up on him for a long time after and that they're still in touch.
Also, the actor for "Ian" was incredible.
Thank you so much for uploading these vids Derren, they are a real treat to watch, no thought, time or expense spared in your shows makes them absolutely brilliant. Thanks again.
"I just don't have a heart." 😂
thank you for this. i cried way more than i should have. its extremely impactful and seems so much more real with the "protagonist" thinking its real. i loved this so much and im definitely gonna watch more of these videos tomorrow.
Stephens video is so emotional and it just really shows how he has changed. I love Stephen and would love to be his friend
This is like a movie! And then sara got the red wrist band I was BAWLING and ian left! I hope this guy learns his lesson. I love this
Where girls cry: Sad movies
Where boys cry: Endgame
Where true men cry: Right at the end here
Don't you mean... Truman?
This is absolutely amazing! It helped me because im in his shoes of trying to change. And this was emotional for me to watch because it opened my eyes. I hope this series has helped more than just me. Thank you Derren Brown. Love from the USA ❤️
That was the single greatest show, I have ever seen,
In my three decades of watching TV
And a decade being a journalist
And 2 years in film production.
Which means, Brown, I take out my cape and bow
You are a rare breed of the arts
