It goes beyond just being a great actor, he also has a phenomenal memory. He's not lying when he says he's not wearing an earpiece, there's nobody feeding him information; for the most part he's rattling off information he memorised just prior to coming out on stage, either before the show or during the interval, something he had to do literally hundreds of nights in a row for this particular show, a different set of "predictions" every night over the entire run. That's an amazing skill, on top of his other abilities. He really is the greatest showman of our generation, his spin on what is, at the end of the day, very common mentalism techniques is just sublime.

The opening speech he did was so profound it made me think of my life and how others perceived it and the realisation that really other people really don't care about me and what goes on in my life and likewise I really don't care about there's either. I want good things for them and for them to be happy but really the stuff going on in their lives is pretty much the same as mine maybe with exception of the cancer I'm fighting. I feel different now, I feel that I don't have to wear a metaphorical mask when I'm hanging out with friends or bump into someone I know. I can just be myself because really the person I talk to doesn't really care anyway. With that notion in my mind I feel lighter and free to get on with my life without worrying about what other people think about me.

I was a volunteer on one of these shows involved in the psychic half time section. I can absolutely vouch that I was not a stooge! I was actually hoping my name would not be called out (it is bad enough just being there in front of the audience). But it was and what followed to this day I cannot fully comprehend. Derren made no pretence that he possessed any psychic powers and actually made a point of highligting that he didn't! So I could see how the trick was done and it relied upon his ability to memorise a great many things in a finite amount of time. That said I cannot explain why I said exactly what I did not want to say - my mind was a blank apart from those exact words that I did not want to say! When you are pressured for an answer but there is literally nothing else the result is inevitable! I spent a couple of hours in the Cambridge pub after talking to other audience members and many years since thinking about this. It has made me think long and hard about our own perceptions of life and just how easily that perception can be altered in a blink - or a show.

(Or any supernatural abilities that other people don't have) What is special about him is he is extremely creative, more so than most other people alive. And I'm not going to tell you I know how he did that trick. But I can think of possible ways to do it. Almost everything you see Derren Brown do, over 90% of the world's population could do it as well if he were to tell them the exact method and help them practice. There is no form of psychology that would allow you to guess or intuit that somebody got bit by a monkey in Gibralter. I realize he does all kinds of real amazing psychological tricks in a lot of his performances, but that was too spot on. My best guess is that came from some sort of pre-show work, possibly well before the show. But I honestly don't know. Don't have a clue. I'm willing to stretch my belief that he could actually have a crazy memory, and that it was a memory trick (like having people fill out a survey when they buy their ticket), though I doubt it. But I'm not at all willing to believe he can look at a person and intuit that they got bit by a monkey in gibralter, or anything else that specific. He would be able to win James Randi's million dollar prize if he had that ability, and winning that would make anybody so notorious; there is no way Derren Brown would turn that down.

Possibly done by researching some of the people attending or recording conversations in the lobby. You could find this information easily if it’s on their Facebook profile for example. Commonly done by ‘psychics’ and exposed by derren before now... so I’d bet that’s a technique he uses often.

He even says so himself. These people haven't read his books. They're soooo desperate for the "body language" and "subliminal suggestions" nonsense to be real. Derren is a fantastic showman, and he's actually a really, really good card magician, but this whole mentalism thing is extremely dishonest. Illusions never used to act like their tricks were real, but now we have Derren pretending to bu using secret psychological skills (which he does NOT possess), we got Blaine pretending to be doing extreme physical feats, we got Chriss Angel and Dynamo using camera tricks, actors, post production effects, etc. I don't like the way it's going. It's not its own skill anymore. It's just acting by another name
