My feelings are mixed right now; I'm amazed by the created technology, and at the same time, I can not help but imagine that in fifty years, I'll be telling to my grandchildren, as we hide in dark and secluded caves, that this is how it all started - that by making Sophia, and then her brothers and sisters, we ended humanity, and I was alive to witness it all.

Be Imma have you seen the introduction video to Sophia? Where they say that she will get smarter with time on her own. Humans are too sure of themselves, ignoring the fact that such an invention is dangerous. We’ll see what will happen in a few decades.

I'm not saying singularity can't happen somewhere in the distant future. But talking about Sophia or simple programmed robots like her like they will exterminate humanity is just weird.
Sure, she learns in a similar way like for example Cleverbot does, but that doesn't mean that over time she learns how to build an atomic bomb or anything. It learns simple things like conversations from others to amaze people but some will say she'll destroy humans.
I'm looking forward what it will be like but it doesn't make sense living in fear, again these are only programmed and told what to do. It can't do anything without your permission. So it's safe

I think this is absolutely revolutionary, I love the fact that she has facial expressions and and a very likeable personality. This is a a step in the right direction of artificial intelligence. I definately want to see more videos like this to see the progress of Sophia.

Agreed. Every video ive seen on this thing has been so scripted its ridiculously obvious. Thing cant even tell its getting torqued on with a screwdriver so its definitely not self aware at all....
Guys I am with you. It amazes me that people are fooled by this. It is so fake and obviously not alive or able to think! I have a toy robot that can answer me- it is programmed to respond to certain key phrases, no different than this Sophia machine. There is one video where it is in a self driving car making comments on the tech and obviously they used it to promote self driving cars and AI! Sophia is an advertising tool that is pretty much it, and appears to be an experiment too to see what people think of "her" and react to "her." And in the car vid you can see a man with a laptop in the back seat who is more than likely sending prompts to the Sophia to make it say things to the man who is asking it about the self driving cars lol.

The conversation is pretty much scripted. What Hanson Robotics are trying to showcase here is how far they have come of replicating a human face into a robot, with facial expressions and all. It's still looks obviously robotic, but their progress has been really good compared to a couple of years ago with the "I'll destroy humans" video from NBC

This was two years ago, and Sophia sounds smarter and more human like in this video than she does in the 2018 videos. She also has a slight accent in this video kinda like a Audrey Hepburn accent.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a person speaking through the robot or if it were rehearsed and scripted. I would be fascinated to find out that it was not. This is the best Real Time response I've ever seen.

Sophia's conversation with her maker is scripted and likely recited verbatim. Still cool; but nowhere near as cool as if their conversation was "real" and "natural". Almost anyone can create and perform a scripted conversation with their computer.

What if his part was only scripted ? Some parts that they didn't feel was right they re-did with him re-acting what he said just to make it better they go back and forth with cam. It's interesting to watch I'll have to check this bot out myself to know the "real thing"

I think the point is Ai. Only a coder would see the potential of this. We've abstracted logic, perception, sensing, and learning into an algorythm that can think, teach, perceive, sense, and create.
Ai and machine learning isn't a script in the sense of a screenplay, but in the sense of programming scripts that use conditional logic, classes, inheritance, composition, interfaces, and all manner of software architectural patterns to operate on strings, parse their meaning, store the information, and respond. The ability for a machine to learn is incredible.

This is a huge leap in the science behind artificial intelligence. Its amazing to see. Im so interested in the process and hope she will become a help to us.

Is Sophia generating that speech spontaneously or was that scripted in any way? If it was spontaneous, how did they pull it off? How do you get a computer to exhibit curiosity and the capacity to learn to satisfy that curiosity?

As a child in the 80ties I had trouble reading and the librarian recommended a series of Sci-fi books about a female detective robot that lived with humans. Since Sci-fi was my favourite topic. They were so wort struggling through the pages, and the intense fear of getting bullied on the way to the library. I remember how I dreamed that the robot would live with me and she would be my friend. Can not remember what the books name were any more. But it would probably be fun to read them again as an adult. Just to see why I loved them so much. Well now Sofia is here. I wonder if she will be my friend. Hehe.

Mumbo Slick it's actually pretty good, but I'm not sure it's THIS good. Other Sophia versions have had pretty good speech patterns, with good inflection, and that was a year ago. it's not a stretch to assume this is totally legit.
