I wanted to say a huge "thank you!" for posting this video. I pored over this video and watched it several times. Today, we went to the local game shop, borrowed a copy, and played for the first time. We were able to play on our own because of your video. Thank you again!
+Chris Hayashida It's worth noting that they didn't get all the rules quite right - in particular, they incorrectly stopped Nikki from doing a terraform on its own - the "Terraform and Build" action lets you either terraform a space that isn't your colour or build a dwelling on a space that is your colour, or terraform a space to your colour and then build a dwelling there. They also missed scoring points a lot, and I'm not sure Nikki was getting her full income every time, and I've got a feeling there may have been something else they actually got wrong somewhere... Oh, yeah, the 8 point town tile pushes you up one space in every cult rather than just one space in one. It's a good way of getting a feel for the game, but it's worth reading the rulebook to make sure to get the details right.
WOW watching this in 2022 an still love your videos. i learned so much from you guys. Who needs a rulebook if i can just watch you all. I just bought a copy of TM , can't wait to play an teach this to my gaming group. Thanks for the video.
Third time watching this game guys, it's a great way for a retired guy to spend some of his time plus I love watching you all play...and of all the run thoughts for this game yours is tops hands down...tks again Maieuti didn't make it to GenCon last year and really missed seeing you guys.
Bless the guy teaching the game, he does the best he can having only played such a complex game only a few times before being asked to explain ALL the rules to us. Might be a good idea to do a short how to play video at the beginning of each video that gives the teacher more chance to prepare or give them a script to help them out. Great series though and I always tune in for the next one, so far you have done a fair amount of games I've been interested in buying. Keep up the good work guys!
Realy liked this episode, nice to see a newer game. Terra mystica is a great game that is hard to teach, especially if you havent played it yourself that many times before so I think you did a really good job showcasing a fairly complex game.
Doug, that is not a mistake. She gets that special power when she places her "Witches Flight" dwelling. In addition she hadn't even unlocked that power for herself yet. This was a standard expansion not using her special power. Thanks for the note though.
Seemed like the teaching was fine to me. I had never played the game before, and just played a game tonight with some other people who had played before. We skipped the rules explanation since I learned the game from this video, and it turned out I didn't miss anything and knew all of the rules just fine.
they made one glaring error. when you power cycle cos of an opponents building you gain power equal to the power value of the building ie 1/2/3/4 and you then pay victory points equal to one less than power cycled, so 0/1/2/3 VP
The big thing I caught was Nikki wanted to place a dwelling in a forest not adjacent to her current locations (about 32-33 minutes in). Scott told her it had to be adjacent which, for the Witches is not accurate. The Witch power is to place in a dwelling in any location that was already a forest at the start of the turn.
That is the witch's second power, granted after having built a stronghold, which is allowed to be played once per turn. Nikki hadn't built her stronghold yet, so she didn't have that power. Nikki's starting power is extra VP from towns.
And if they were not playing absolutely brainless. There were so many thinks I had to shake my head... Choosing three factions close to each other on the circle is the first. Not choosing start places on the board next to each other. Not burning power at the early game rounds is the next thing. Not using the power actions on the board frequently. Focusing too strong on getting victory points in the early game instead of acquiring a constant income level for further rounds of the game. Black one building a town over 5 terrains instead of building one over 3 and another over 4 and just not using the bridge. But I guess first time playing this game, there are too many things to think about... :)
@@BlueEyesLX .... And obviously anyone who hasn't played before or is just learning wouldn't know all of this. It's easy to watch others who are new play and tell them what they're doing wrong.
Lucas, could you be more explicit on the errors? This is a dense game and we are trying to keep it short, which this is difficult to do for a game like this. The major mistake I made I noticed and corrected in the second round before it affected the outcome of the game. If there are some other errors we will make note of them on the video.
Hi Lincoln, in this video, it wasn't so much major errors in gameplay as it was very difficult to follow the rules explanation. In one of my other comments I mentioned there seemed to be lots of back tracking on rules. I didn't watch the whole thing, because my brain was fried from trying to follow the rules. Please understand, I really do like your group and these videos. Your first episode was great, I bought King of Tokyo partially based off it. Please keep them coming!
Helpful little video. Can't help but feel a little bad for the guy in blue. Nikki seems put out by the smallest things she doesn't understand or isn't able to do according to the rules. She was off putting; probably not fun for the other players. The guy (girl?) with the long hair seemed okay, but got a little testy at times, but over all not too bad.
In what way are they getting "worse and worse", Lucas? This is the only one of the entire series where I've felt at all like I couldn't follow what was going on in the game. But, I think that had far more to do with the game than anything else - it's clearly a seriously complex game and had I had some familiarity with it I'm sure I would have found it much easier to follow.
I don't mean to be pedantic here, but isn't shipping only used for building, and don't count for adjacency when building a town? I've never played, but I think that's what I read:/
Nice try, but a lot of mistakes are being made. You guys should review the video when posted, after reading the rules once again, and show corrections via text on the screen. It's kind of misleading sometimes, a pity for this great game.
Unfortunately any corrections we used to put on these videos are lost in a change UA-cam made a few years ago. We try our best to teach the game correctly and for the most part succeed. Thanks for the note and for watching. -Lincoln
I wouldn't like it as well, when other people constantly tell me what my move 'should be'. And also when they talk about me in third person, not addressing me, but talking amongst each other what I should do.
This is at least the third one I've seen recently where they got significant game mechanics wrong. They started out really good, but lately its just been going down the drain. They could at least take the time to put overlay comments in the video to correct the mistakes...
Here, it was backtracking on the rules. First its this, then its that, then its back to this again. In Legendary, they used incorrect hand mechanics that needlessly crippled them. I could have sworn there was another big one but it might have been Lords of Waterdeep where it was just a small scoring glitch at the end. Honestly, I'm probably coming off harsher than I mean to. I really do like these guys, I just wish they could get a little bit firmer grip on the mechanics when they play. :(
Why was Nikki looking like she had somewhere else to be? It seems she was after that way when Scott said it was start of round 4... Lol Like...OMG we are barely half way and its been 1:15:00... :)
Aldie is not a regular on camera game explainer but he really wanted to teach us and play the game! He’s also the creator and owner of BoardGameGeek so we are happy he’s around!-Lincoln
When you guys started these I was really hoping it would be another great video play through series like Watch it Played or Box of Delights.... But these are just getting worse and worse. I feel sorry for poor Aldie having to teach a game that he'd only played a few times and have it recorded for thousands of people. :(
Man seeing this now. You have like 5 different comments, all badgering new players of a game smh. I hope you've learned some patience 9 years later. New players don't play everything correctly. You can make your own video
@@floodkevin4716 Yeah.... when you're right, you're right. I actually have, come to think of it. We all grow and figure things out. I was way too harsh in this comment, but I'm leaving it, and this comment, to show that people can and do change. I hope the GameNight folks see this.

So when you get the city and pick the 1 on cult track it means 1 on each of the four tracks not just one. Nikki missed out.

Hello. I speak English not very well. I saw a mistake. If you get power from your neighbor, then you loose victory points.
yeah they totally skipped that one
I beleive that each character star with différents VP, the number its written in the last page of the rule book
Thanks!

@@boardgamegeek Thanks for your reaction. I do understand the difficulty of it, and, the effort needed to 'perfect' this kind of medium.
Does Nikki even enjoy playing board games? She always looks annoyed in these videos and that would likely bring down the groups enjoyment of the game.
