- This video will help you to programme the buttons to work the central locking on a Ford Fiesta 2002 - 2008
This is really easy and don't worry, you can't mess anything up. The car will still start, even if the buttons won't programme!

Here are the instructions to help you
Step One
Sit inside the car, shut all the doors.
Step Two
Put the key into the ignition.
Step Three
Turn the ignition on so that the lights come on the dashboard, but do not try and start the car. Turn the ignition off.
Step Four
Repeat this three times, so in total you should turn the ignition on and off four times and it should take about one second for each 'on/off'. Sometimes it takes more than four times.
Step Five
The car should make a noise. It may be a chime, a bong or a beep, but listen out for something. At this point the car ignition should be off and the key out of the ignition. When you hear the car make the noise, it means the car is in programming mode and is listening out for a new remote to be coded in. Sometimes you won't hear a noise after four times. This is common. Just turn the ignition on and off until you hear a noise! This may be twenty times..You can't mess anything up so don't worry.
Step Six
When you hear the noise, press any of the buttons on the remote. If the remote is working, and the car hears the remote, the car will make a second chime, bong or beep, the same as the first. This means the car has heard the remote and the remote is programmed.
If you have two remotes, take the second key and press one of the buttons and listen out for the sound.
Make sure that any remote you want to work the central locking gets pressed, otherwise it will not work anymore.
Step Seven
Turn the ignition on and off one more time. This ends the programming sequence.
Step Eight
Test the remote buttons.

Με έσωσες είχα αυτή την βλάβη και διορθώθηκε ευχαριστώ
I just cut and programmed a key for a guy with a 2004 fiesta. He just had a key with a transponder in it with no central locking.
I programmed in a new 3 button remote with an original oval shaped remote head Ford key.
All was well,i got him to test it,his boot lock worked as well.
Then he says when he got home remote didn't work!!I noticed when he was starting his car it turned over very slowly like it wasn't going to start, would these keys go out of sync with a weak car battery?
Thanks for the video. Drove me mad not to remote do it and have the alarm threatening every time I open the door ;-)
Yes, that gets annoying after a while! Glad it heled you :)
Wow it worked thanks
Love the suprise! Well done and glad it helped you :)
Thanks for the video. I followed your steps and it WORKED!! Just one other problem.. The key can lock and unlock from the new remote, BUT...it does not detect the "key" meaning, the car cannot start because of the "immobiliser"? any solution to that please? :)
Hello Ben, what make and model is it please?
Worked for me!
That's great Simon, thanks for the comment :)
Good video thanks. I've bought an aftermarket key from Timpsons which has remote locking and can be programmed in this way. Would there likely be any issue with the immobilizer using a key from Timpsons? Thanks
Are they going to programme the immobiliser? If they are, then you'll be fine
Thank you
You're welcome :)
Worked for me, FOrd focus 2 MK2
Great stuff, thanks for the feedback :)
thanks for your info. I knew my key was broken
You're welcome, thanks for the feedback :)
fantastic..... helped me out and saved me £200 from ford dealership who are utterly useless
Great stuff Gurdev, glad it helped ;)
At first this didn’t work for me (Ford Focus 2007), in that I didn’t get the first beep.
Then I read in the manual that both belts in the front seats had to be locked. After doing this it worked as per this video.
Just a hint if you have the same trouble as I did!
Hi, thanks for this, I've not come across this but it may explain a few problems I've seen. Hopefully it will help everyone ;)
Hi.
Thanks for the useful trick to lock and unlock with a spare key. However, when attempting to start the engine with the second key, the red light in the middle of the dashboard blinks quickly leaving me with no other response.
Basically the lock/unlock system is now working for the second key, but the same cannot be said when trying to start the engine.
I have this problem on a late-2007 Ford Focus for which I bought a second key.
Many thanks.
Hi, there are two parts to the key. This video shows how to re-code the buttons when they stop working after a key battery change. However, the other part to the key is a small chip, and this allows the car to start. This can only be programmed with a diagnostic machine. I would suggest doing a search for a local Car Key Man, just search for an Auto Locksmith
Hi Car Key Man, I’m not sure if you’d respond but I’ll try my luck anyway, I have a 2007 fiesta got a key that works electronically that came with the car and just a normal Ford spare key but wondered could I buy a newer Ford key fob and code that using this method to the car for locking and unlocked even though the key is a newer model than the car?
Hello, it really depends on which key you are thinking of getting
Hello Steve , I have just bought a Ford Fiesta 2007 and the central locking works on all the doors except passenger side door which stays locked. I then had a manual key and tried this and guess what all the locks opened including the passenger door , this was fine for about 8 times or so and now the manual key opens all the locks except the passenger side door. Any clues or suggestions of what it might be , I really don’t want to spend money on things which I do not need until I get a proper diagnosis, any help would be appreciated . Also my rear driver passenger doors whirs a lot after a new door lock assembly should this be like this. Thanks for any help
Hello Mohanlal, the system is quite simple. When you press the button on the key, or turn the key in the door lock, it sends a signal to a computer on the car. This coputer then tell each door to lock or unlock.
It sems that your passenger door is misbehaving and probably needs looking at.
That's my guess, but it really needs a look from someone locally
Hi @The Car Key Man, I have a Ford fiesta zetec 2008 and I have a key that starts the car but doesn't have remote locking (doesn't have any buttons on it). Can I use this key to program and a new remote key fob to work with the immboliser as well as the central locking? Or do I have to program it though the OBD port? Thanks for any help in advance
Hi Dave, you need to code the immobiliser using the OBD port
I have a Ford Fiesta 2006. I only have one key. It’s fully working, however, I’m now getting the “Key Fob Battery Low” warning on the dash. If I replace the battery and it requires reprogramming, can I do this with just the one key?
Hi Gareth, yes it will work with just one key
Hi does this programme the key to start also? Or is there another to do that. Thanks really good video too
Hi Stephen, no sorry this only programmes the buttons. The chip needs to be programmed using software
The new fob opens the locks etc remotely using the method in the video but it will not start the car in my case. The ignition lights come on but turn the key to start, and nothing happens. The PATS light flashes. When original remote key fob is used, it works fine. The key fob I'm trying to program is a used one from another vehicle of similar model.
Hello. OK so there are two parts of the key. So the simplest part to get working is the remote central locking, and you've got that far.
Unfortunately, buried inside the key is a transponder chip. It's the same idea as what's inside your cat or dog and it gets scanned by the car before it allows the engine to start. In your case, your car doesn't know the new chip yet, so it won't crank, and this is normal. The only way to introduce this new chip, (which we call programming), is with a diagnostic, key programming machine. Whay country are you in?
The Car Key Man. I'm in the UK. I have to other keys that start the engine. One is a remote fob and the other is without remote fob. I think the method you use is for the pre 2005 Ford's. I have seen a video that states you put both engine start keys up to the ignition then put the the one you want to program to the same and it's done. Another thing I found is that the chip in the key I want to program is a bulb type transponder chip and my original keys transponder chip is different as it looks a a granite wedge. I have sent this one back and going to order one with a similar transponder chip to mine to resolve the issue.
What car is it and which year please
Is there a way to do this if you've lost your main key fob? Currently only have the spare key that doesn't have a fob/buttons.
Hi JD, this video shows you how to code in the buttons after changing the key battery. You can do this with a new key no problem, however, inside the new key is a chip that will need coding in with diagnostic software
I have the same fiesta in the video, the keys for my car is a standard key with no buttons but the car has central locking will i be able to buy a key and program it in ?
Hi Connor. The simple way to find out is to try and get the car into programming mode before you pay out for a key.
On and off four times ( dont start the engine) and see if the car makes a noise
Ideali...man viss izdevas
Thanks worked on a 12 plate
Great stuff, thanks for the feedback :)
Hello, in my case I only have a key without fob and a separate fob that I bought online that doesn’t work. Is there a way to make it work? Thank you
Hello Darshan. Yes you can just code the buttons in using this video. Did you get it to work?
Hey thx for this vid, have tried this but only get the first beep then i press a button on the keys and nothing. Keys had new battery so i'm at a loss, any ideas?
Hi Sammy, you are doing it correctly. The reason you don't hear second beep is that the car is not hearing a signal from the key. Have you seen our video that shows how to change the key battery?
Here's the video. ua-cam.com/video/HHh5EXi7sds/v-deo.html
Isn't there a story of having to copy the transponder or i dunno what ?
Like if i do what you did, for a 2009 fiesta, and i ask a locksmith to copy the original key and CNC it to the new one, it should work to start the car, open the doors, trunk etc ? Thanks !
Hi, sorry for the delay. Yes you'll need to get the new chip coded so that it starts the car
Ridiculous! Bloody works
Great stuff, easy eh!
So, I have a question: I bought a ford focus with a normal key and a remote key. I have put a new battery in the remote key. I tried putting the car in program mode, that went well. But it does not seem to register the click of the remote key to program it. So is there a way to test if the remote is sending out a signal when pressed? When the key part is removed from the remote part should i be able to get visual feedback when pressing the button? There is a chance the remote is broken but i dont know how to test this.
Hello
Thanks for the question.
Ok, so a key cutting shop will have a key fob tester. They check if a signal comes out when the key is pressed.
Here is the link to what I mean
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-INFRA-RED-RF-Key-Fob-Remote-Control-Tester-Detects-new-BMW-frequency/180978852285?hash=item2a232e21bd:g:uUAAAOxy7rdREmf8
Now a friendly key shop should have one and if you ask them to check the battery, they should check to see if it works.
There isn't any other way to test it i'm afraid, other than getting a fob you know does work ( off another Ford Focus, Mondeo, fiersta etc, and trying to code it in. If it works on a different remote then you know that your one is faulty.
key. ch*an
What do you do if you don’t have a key that operates central locking (I just have a simple key no buttons )
Hi Cameron, you need a new key, cut and coded by a good Auto Locksmith ...take a look at this...thecarkeyman.co.uk/key-news/how-to-find-local-car-key-man-auto-locksmith/
I own Fiesta 2007. Currently I have 2 working key (one is fob). Can I program +2 additional unlocking key? Four times from 1-2, first remote unlock and then add +2 more keys? Does that work or I need 1 by 1 or it is not possible to add so many? I bought 2 keys from Aliexpress (8$ with ID63 40bit, hope transponder is ok)
Hi, yes you can do this, it will only programme the buttons. The chip inside the key needs to be coded using a computer
I have had to replace my cars gem/bcm module how do I go about programing the central locking i have 2 keys but I only have the 1 that has the buttons
Hi, gave you tried this manual method? You can code in just one key
Would this work for 2010 ford focus st2.. i have keyless start.. and the fob doesnt unlock my car anymore
Morning Ian, no, the keyless remotes need to be coded using a computer
I have a 2005 ford fiesta and when i try to lock the car it locks then quickly unlocks it does the same for both central locking and using the key in the door
HI, This is normally caused by a door being slightly open.Even if all the doors are shut correctly, one of the sensors in the car may be faulty, which makes the car think the door is open. It needs looking at by an Auto Electrician
Definitely works for a Ford Focus 1.6 auto 2002 mk1.5 facelift model (indicator’s in the headlights version lol) I changed the battery in my single key and as per usual the remote bit thingy me bob thing stopped working and so looked for a fixed and found this video and another and thought the usual fake news bullshit so of I went to my car and wow hang on this shit works man the car bleeped after 4 turns so I quickly pressed one of the buttons on my key and double shit after about 6 attempts I thought this doesn’t work so locked the car manually and walked off came back to the car and thought I’d try one of the buttons on my key and as if by magic my key works fine now ; ) o7 ......
That's great, sometimes there isn't any response from the car, not sure why, but it still works! Glad it helped you :)
I have central locking on my fiesta. I have 2 keys. None of them has buttons. I put the key inside and I lock unlock the car. Can I do this if I buy a remote?
Hi, it depends if your car has a central locking module remote fitted. Check with your local Ford dealer
how do i change to unlock sequence from all doors to drivers door, passenger door, back doors?
Hi, not sure I’m afraid. I expect it’s in the manual
just seen this after watching how to change the battery. What if you don't have a second key?
There's no problem if you only have one key. Just switch the ignition on and off until the car beeps, or chimes, (normally four times) and then press one of the buttons.
Then ignition on and off and that's it!
hello i want to ask if i can code a new remote because my original is broken? is it necessary for the coding to work and the original remote??? Thaks!
Hello, what is the car please?
if i bought a flip key and had my chip inside would this method work or only with the original style key many thanks in advance
Hi, this will work with a flip key also
thx loving the content helps a lot
Can’t get this to work. Noticed nether car was locking and unlocking intermittently so changed the fob battery then tried your steps here and I get the chime but key will not program. I can’t access my boot now as it’s electronic only. I’m stumped. Fiesta 2009 plate.
Hi, If you're getting the chime you're doing everything correctly. The problem is that the car is not 'hearing' the key. If it can't detect the key, then maybe there's an issue with the battery you've put in?
Hi mate just wondering- I’ve got my aftermarket key fob working for everything except starting the car (it’s cut correctly) I was just wondering how I can get it to start the engine it’s a 2007 ford fiesta
I would really appreciate any advice
Hi, inside the new key is a transponder chip. It needs to be matched to teh car with diagnostics, it can't be done manually
i only have one key and the battery has died, will i need to do this when i replace the battery? what do i turn it to for the 4 times? is it the "ll" position? and when it beeps just press any button on fob return to off position and it should work?
Yes, that's about it! Let us know how you get on
What if you only have a new fob that doesn't work and not an existing fob that works?
My ford figo 2010 originally came with one normal key and a remote key and I have lost my remote key. How to get the key with out changing whole central locking? P.s. i have the same key as shown in video.
Hi Abinash. I'm not sure of that model, what country are you in please? If the key looks the same, there are four things to think about
You need a decent key. These keys are one of the few on the market that can be reused from one car to the next, so you could get a used key from another car, and just put a new blade on it.
Next, you need to find someone to cut the key, which is easy enough if you find someone good
Third you need to get the small electronic chip coded. This can only be done with a computer.
Lastly, you can code the buttons using the method in this video. Hope this helps
Do i follow all the steps the same if ita jus one key? Cuz both my keys dont work and i chaged the battery too
Hi, yes you ca do the same if you only have the one key :)
My 2005 ford fiesta key fob stopped working, Ive tried using this method to recalibrate the key, i do the inital 4 times and get the beep but when I press the key theres no second beep, I bought another key to try and nothing. What am I doing wrong
HI Clare, sorry been away. You're not doing anything wrong, if the car beeps then you've done it all correct, but the keys you have may not be transmitting correctly
after the beeps are you starting the engine or just turning it to light up panel again?
Hi, no don't start the engine, just ignition on, then off to finish
merci
You're welcome :)
I am getting the first beep but when pressing key button it doesn’t work ? Any thing else I could try? Thanks
It's good that you're getting the first beep. If you don't get the second one of two things is happening.
On the later models, sometimes the car doesn't beep when you press the key, but it still works the central locking after you have cycled the ignition.
Or, there isn't a signal coming out of the key for the car to hear. Have you had your key checked to see if its transmitting ?
Hello car key man! Did what you say and first and second keys are now acting as a remote should. However the second key (the one programmed) cannot start the car, which can be done with the original one. Any idea, solution, please. Thanks
Hi, there is a chip inside the key. It needs to be coded in with a computer
Hey Steve. When I press my lock button on my key it opens immediatly after automatically. Same when I try to do it by hand on the key lock, I lock the door by hand and it opens immediatly. Any advice?
Hi, this is what is known as 'bouncing'. The car thinks that one of the doors is open, and therefore will not let you lock it. Give all teh doors a god slam, and see if it makes any difference.
Long term you need to work out which door switch is faulty, a good auto electrician will be able to do this
Hi is this the same for a ford fusion key ? As I replaced the battery in the remote key fob.
Morning Mark, yes the same key
Hi would another cars work if I just use the buttons with the chip and my owns car barrel and battery tray on a Ford fiesta mark 5? Thanks
Hi, if you take a key from another car, you can programme the buttons easily using this video. You'll need to get the chip coded to to the car, normally done using diagnostics
@@TheCarKeyMan thanks for the reply so basically I could use my own key to start it and the other key just for opening /closing the locking system
I have a 2004 zetec and only have the spare key 😢 if I got one with the fobs will this still work ?
Hi. This video shows you how to programme the buttons of a new fob. Inside the fob is also a chip that can only be coded using a computer. Do a search for a good local Auto Locksmith and I'm sure it won't cost that much
Hi mate wondering if u can help, I’m trying to program the key in but my existing key is one without buttons so I’m not sure how to do it
Hello, if your new key has buttons, just follow this video and only press the button on the new key
im having problems with my imobliser it wont open the car.ie the lights dont flash like normal.i can open the car and ignition lights come on.but it wont turn.i have a ford focus 1.6 2006 titanuim.i just tried the above ,but it didnt work just made a ticking noise at the front and when i locked it one doors was still open..help please
Hi Darren, does the car still start?
I get the first beep but when I go to do the press any button I don’t get the beep again
Hi Euan, if you get the first beep you are doing it correctly. The second beep only happens if the car can 'hear' the key transmitting, so maybe there's a problem with the key?
I can't get the car to sound after 0ressing remote button! I have no idea I got correct remote as car only came with the ignition key when purchased 2nd hand. How do I find out which key and frequency I need? It's a 2014 fiesta Ambiente (Australian release so European model I believe). I turn the ignition 8 times and get the chime but nothing when I press the remote to programme it 😞
Thanks.
Hi Linda, do you get the car to make a noise after turnung the ignition on and off eight times ?
@@TheCarKeyMan yes, but it won't make the noise to say the remote connected and remote still does nothing....
