- Ford remote controls sometimes stop working because the switches become loose. This video will show you how to fix this problem
There are a couple of important things
You must be careful with the soldering iron. A hot soldering iron on skin really hurts alot!!
Solder flux helps cllean the solder joint, but when it's heated it smokes and the smoke is very bad for you. So DO NOT breathe it in.
Good luck, be careful and if you can't solder find a local key person to help you.

Can I buy a new key and do this
Just fixed my fob after watching this video, thank you very much 👍
You're welcome martin, glad it helped :)
Just wanted to say thank you for posting the video, one of the buttons in my key had stopped working and following this guide I have been able to fix it again! really pleased with the result
thanks again for your video
You're welcome Alex and thanks for the feedback, it means alot
I guess im asking randomly but does any of you know a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I love any help you can offer me
@Tristian Brixton instablaster ;)
@Nikolas Alfredo thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Nikolas Alfredo It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass :D
I just programmed and cut a key for a 2004 ford fiesta,i gave him a three button ford type remote whereas before he only had a plain key with a transponder in it.
After programming the key i had to get the remote working with a manual procedure, which worked perfectly.
I got him to use it to open and close his doors 'and' the boot/trunk before he left and it worked perfectly.
Then he texted me saying his remote doesn't work, after his 30 minute drive home??
I did mention to him his car i noticed turned over 'very' lazily when he started it,to the point you didn't think it was going to start! So maybe his car battery was kind of low and made the key go out of sync?
But ofcourse fob battery could be flat but it was brand new and working when he left!
Hi, was it a genuine Ford remote? We see lots of trouble with copy Ford remotes, but it's very rare for the old style Ford three button key to play up
The switch was broken for me, so I used your method to swap the open boot switch, with open doors button. Now have two out of three working, thank you :)
Glad it helped you Jae :)
My fob had terrible range even with a new battery. Took the fob apart and cleaned the sensor and circuit board both sides with isopropyl and a tooth brush. Working perfectly now.
Hi Mathew, thanks for posting this, I'm sure it will help someone ;)
Dude, you've just saved my money, thanks a lot! :)
You're welcome, thanks for watching :)
thx mate much appreciated. just fixed mine in 2 mins :-)
That's great :)
Thank you sooo much
You're welcome Jane :)
Hi mate, I have an 07 Ford Fiesta. Was wondering if there’s anyway my key fob would be able to control the front two windows on the car? I have the factory made key fob (with unlock/lock and boot release buttons)
Hi Charles, sorry I'm really not sure.
Have searched your videos but no joy. My key fob was intermittent, now completely dead. Buttons all work but not transmitting. Have changed batteries and changed fob and reprogrammed but still nothing. Contacts are good. Any ideas please? Circuit board maybe? Thank you
HI, without seeing it, who knows? Is the key transmitting? I would get it checked out at a local key cutting shop to see if the key is putting out a signal.
@@TheCarKeyMan it's not transmitting. The car key guy didn't know and said maybe try new circuit board!
Hi, I had to use excessive force to get my buttons to work (had to press with two fingers even) to lock/unlock my car. Now, the buttons have stopped working altogether. The print plate looks fine and so do the buttons. Any tips? Would be greatly appreciated man!
Hi Joeri, it may be the small switched that need replacing. We see this a lot. You will need some new switches and a soldering iron, but be careful!
Hello and thanks for the video. Where can I buy the device that you used to test the frequency emitted by the key?
Hi Luis
Here's a link, it's for the same tester that we use.
amzn.to/2JxNUMR
It's an affiliate link, but if you're not in the UK, I hope it shows you what you need
Can you just use the original front with the transponder and buy a new back with the circuit board and buttons in? Really need help thanks!
Hi Adam, yes you can do that. The only problem you may find is that with the replacement cases, they may not fit with the original for case
@@TheCarKeyMan thank you
I can’t figure out how to take the circuit out of the black cover :( please help
Hello Sophia, the circuit board it held in with three little black fixings. To take it out you need to either melt or break at leat two of these if I remember, then the board will come out.
My key has awfull range, replaced already micro switches for lock and unlock because they didn’t work as well. Now I have to press again multiple times for lock and unlock, seems they went bad again. Battery is new. Thinking about making new key now (blade type) is that design more reliable from Ford?
The type of key shown in the video is probably the most reliable key ever sold. In my local business, I give it a lifetime warranty because in all my 16 years, I've only had to replace a couple.
Compared to any French design, Renault, Citroen, Peugeot etc, these keys are amazing.
Having said all that, I think you just need a new key. I would get a genuine one and it will outlive the car
Hi mate see when you turn the key in the ignition you dont start the engine is that correct,
Hi Kris, no don't start the engine
@@TheCarKeyMan I managed to get it working, I now have 2 fully operational keys, thank you
Wish i had the tools but i opened it and this is what happened
How to make Remote checker or where can I get it
I wouldn't have a clue how to make one, but Draper sell these, or look Amazon. I'll try and find a link
Thanks for the video. My issue is that the switch you soldered back has a small little transmitter thing near to it. It has come off and boy is it awkward to get that soldered back, its a nightmare!. I did it twice and now when i opened the key it was off its place and now lost. Can i use any other little transmitter thing from any other pcb that looks the same and solder that to it ?... also the solder flux you have, whats the name for it, the feltip pen flux you have ?
Hi, not sure if you can use another component, unless it's off another Ford key the same as you have.
The flux pen is pretty standard, you can get them anywhere very cheaply. Ebay will have them I expect
@@TheCarKeyMan thanks man......just was thinking to buy a pcb board to replace the one I have. Now for instance if i just replace old pcb with a new one that would need to be programmed right?..or can there be another way around it?..my open button is finished and secure button is intermittently working. If i get a new key and switch it over 4 times and collaborate the new key that should be sufficient for it to pair right?...then id just need to program it via forscan so the chip begins to work properly?..am I on the right way here.?....I think I've damaged the position where the switch sits and also the small smd next to ot, i lost the smd and replaced it with another one from some other electrical device. I was guessing it might work but do you know what amp the individual smd's are on the board....any help will be appreciated. Thanks
The orange capacitor cames out from board. How can it be fixed? With soldering iron or hot gun please suggest.
Thanks in advance
Hi Sandeep, I've not seen this, but if it's a small component, then either method will work
How do you remove the black cover?
HI Mircea. Do you mean the black plastic frame on the inside? If so it is held in place with plastic welds, so you just need to gently break them to get at the circuit board
I have a slightly different key fob for a 2011 F-150. I can crack open the clicker and remove the battery, but cannot access the circuit board underneath it. What can I do besides buying a new unit? Thanks!
Hi, what's holding the circuit board in place? I've not seen an F-150 key
Is it like this? ua-cam.com/video/UpsQL2kDy4E/v-deo.html
Hi, any idea why my key battery goes flat in a week? Tried different batteries no change. I have the same key on my GFs Ford focus. I used latex gloves when changing the battery.
Hi, not sure really. Maybe the key is faulty and transmitting when it shouldn't be? Have you had the key checked?
@@TheCarKeyMan I checked all the buttons with multimeter and they work as they should, but the battery had 3V which I think should still work. Then I noticed one of battery contacts scratched a hole through the contact pad into the pcb, so I taped small piece of aluminium foil to it and will see if it helps so far it still works. So hopefully that was the issue. :)
On my key every button sets off the alarm. Any idea why?
Hi Luke, maybe the car thinks a door is open when you lock it. A good auto electrician should help
My button has completely come off but if I hold it on the board will it work or does it 100% need to be soldered to work? Just want to see if it's that before I buy new parts, thanks.
Hi Ned, have you tried holding it on the board to see if it works?
@@TheCarKeyMan I have yes but still nothing, should it still work then? Thanks
Hi Ned, difficult to say. If the button has just fallen off but is complete, you could try to solder it back on. Don't glue it as that will ruin the key
Ok and yes it just looks like the one in your video but only 1 has come off, it's strange tho because it was working one minute then just stopped working
Do the other buttons work on the key?
❤️
Thanks for watching :)
I need a new button on the board, can I get them from anywhere do you know?
Hi Ned, these should be ok. I'm not recommending the seller as I don't have any experience of them, but this link will show you what you're looking for

Are the sitches NC or NO?
Sorry, not sure
@@TheCarKeyMan thx fir any one searching for same information for fiesta mk6 they are NO, probably the are all, but this is confirmed
I want to upgrade this key to a flip key any ideas how to do this?
Well eBay sell various flip key upgrade kits. They come with all sorts of issues.
To start with, most are terrible quality.
Next, is it your only key?
The Car Key Man I have a key without buttons that I can use and one with the buttons for unlocking and locking
ok, there's a few different ways, I'll update this later tonight
Hi Cam
Ok, so there are flip key conversion kits available. We don't recommend them for the following reasons.
Compared to the key you have, they are mostly very poor quality. It seems a shame that you would take a good quality Ford key, and take it apart to put it into a conversion kit that may well fall apart.
Plus there's the problem of getting the blade cut. The large national chains are often won't cut a key that they haven't supplied.
So yes although it can be done, you'll need to break your key open, put it into a case, where the parts may not work correctly, transfer the electronic chip over, then get the blade cut. All of these can cause problems.
If it was me, I wouldn't do it, but I understand the appeal of flip keys
The Car Key Man thanks for your help
