Dark is such a joy to watch because he just seems to have so much fun playing SC2. When the military finally snags him it will be a day of mourning for me.
I would like to see maps where it’s more randomized on multiple levels to really force the players to utilize more improvised style of gameplay and less pre thought out template strategies. In war, you should know how to respond to the unknowns and that would highlight just how versatile someone skills are when they have to constantly shift things around in regards to resources, choke points, map configurations and starting positions. Would it be less balanced? Yes. But that also makes it more interesting to see what the best players are really and truly capable of achieving in a more sandbox type of environment.
Dark is the only SC2 player I would be able to rely on during the post-apocalypse. He seems like a very resourceful, competent, level-headed survivor, who also just happens to thrive is chaotic and unpredictable circumstances.
Sir Richard, the first of his name, was on a mission from god. He got the boys back together, and gave his life for the cause. He is gone, but not forgotten. Press F to pay respects!
I know right? 😂 if only there was a good example of a fusion of two different things in Starcraft... with the Zerg... that just happens to be a main character... it's on the tip of my queen of blades 😅
I would really like to see how much having a door would buff protoss on a proffesional level. The place I noticed it being such a glaring issue was in game 2 at 33:55 when those Zerglings were able to invade the natural and the main. When you watch it you can even see Dark looking surprised that he got in with that many Zerglings and took him a sec to move them further into MaxPax's base. I am sure there are better ideas but mine is called FORCEGATE! The goal of this concept is to solve the problem of needing to put a single unit in a gap to keep enemy units out of your base. Its weird and clunky and as Winter has pointed out a glaring lack of extremely simple technology in an advanced aliens arsenal. I want to keep the solution as minimalistic as possible and require the least amount of effort on putting it in the game. I also want to keep it balanced but effective at what it does. It works by linking two pylons and creating a forcefield between them. Friendly units can pass through freely and enemies cannot. The FORCEGATE's HP is the combined total of the pylons shields (so it would be equivalent to destroying a pylon wall in) and both pylons gain the shields of the FORCEGATE and as the wall is damaged they both lose the shields (to prevent taking down one pylon at range and destroying the entire FORCEGATE). This is a unique version of a door compared to Terran but still, IMO, equivalent in power. The FORCEGATE doesn't need to be raised or lowered to allow friendlies in but is also a much larger and easier to hit target compared to a single depot. The larger surface area means it's slightly more vulnerable to melee units compared to a supply depot. The main balance concerns that can only be adressed by seeing it in action would be: 1. The interactions with shield batteries potentially making the FORCEGATE too strong. 2. If it needs some limiting factor on the number or placement of FORCEGATE's to prevent from unintentionally offensive uses like walling off an opponents base or some other unforseen cheese. Maybe making it so the Pylons used in the wall can't power buildings or maybe tying their creation to a nearby nexus. The main things to watch out for are offensive uses of this concept as the intent is to make it entirely a defensive tool meant to ease the Protoss perpetual problem of units just walking into their base. Terrans have this technology already and Zerg don't suffer the same issue because well spread creep gives you fair warning the enemies are coming and the speed needed to marshall your units for a defense. Protoss suffer uniquely because they have low mobility and weak home defense. The entire race has the issue of Terran mech but don't have a bio alternative to use (This is obviously not a perfect metaphor but you get the idea). Potential other ideas is to have it be a unique structure rather than using Pylons but I wanted it to have roughly the same cost and speed of a Terran wall. The Protoss unique racial ability of not needing a worker to stay with the building may offset this enough but part of my goal is to make this idea as simple to implement as possible. Another idea is to use two Shield Batteries instead of Pylons or just one Shield Battery and have it be an ability that disables its shield restoring ability to maintain the FORCEGATE.
Unfortunately the intern still working on this game still needs to go through 30 more reworks of the cyclone before he can do anything else as demanded by the Balance Council
@@GrippeeTV Dagnabbit! Forgot about those! We need those waaaaayyyy more than Protoss need door tech! I'm so dumb to forget that... Funny thing about that first game is that if Maxpax just split up all his skytoss units, he'd probably have been fine. Dark had literally no anti-air, so dark could only kill Maxpax's units when they were together.
I genuinely am beginning to think that casting Zerg matches is how Winter deals with his mental health problems. He gives himself therapy by creating a cast of SC based characters to speak out his problems :D
They don't have all the information we do while watching. Maxpax couldn't risk it. What if a group of hydras suddenly showed up from a hidden base and picked the units off one by one?
@@udon6031 That is a valid point, I would say he knows for a fact there are groups of festors, so I think in that moment not keeping all your units together would be advantageous.
Nice games haha, caught this live. Small correction: you got the games backwards, the first game cast here was played second, so it was especially crazy thinking that MP was bringing us to a G3 and slowly realizing that Dark wasn’t planning on letting that happen! Thanks for the cast though. (Edit: although I guess maybe you intentionally swapped the two, which is a neat idea if so!)

At the end of first game why MaxPax didn't throw exactly 1 unit (carrier or tempest) to every opponent base location? I know that infestors still can use fungal growth to damage them but it is fairly weak against single target and high hp units. Neural parasite would only delay the game and that might be enough for Dark to rebuild his bases but still that sounds much better than flying randomly around with bunch of units grouped together.
I think that first game was MaxPax's game to lose. If he had separated his flying units out to avoid neurals from being effective, he could've denied Dark's mining and eventually won.

Crazy thing is all maxpax had to do first game was send one unit to each base, then the infesters couldn't do shit. Sometimes less is more.
All he really had to do was kill the infestation pit. Felt almost scripted to leave Dark's investigation pit alive
or just split the observers so they didn't both get hit by one fungal.
