This was so very helpful. Whenever I see you two sharing together, I can't wait to hear what you have to share. Thank y'all for being here for those of us who have felt so alone and for taking the difficult path of preserving truth and integrity in a really intense and difficult time to do so. May God bless you and your families, and please know that our family is praying for yours! ♥
Heard most all my Baptist teaching about how the people in Jesus life (from his birth to the cross) did not like him because they were looking for a King David, conqueror-type Messiah that would free them from those who "occupied" their homeland and in the many areas to which they had traveled. Kinda sorta Make Israel great again????
I wonder if, for many, religion has become just a form with no life source - Something we are in charge of rather than an association with the living God who transforms us. Christianity is so much more than a theology to memorise and adhere to. Religion alone can even become kinda like the idols about which Isaiah (Is 44:9-20) pointed out - no one stops to think, “how can this thing that depends on me be my God?” Once religion is reduced to a form that depends on us, we can shape it to suit ourselves. I have a feeling that Kristin Kobes Du Mez got to the bottom of what really then determines the shape of religion ….. Power. As long as the men who run things have the power, they like the shape. Everything else seems to be optional. Any teachings of Jesus that challenge this will be passed over. Wherever this is the case, churches have become fertile ground for the manipulation of non-religious powers who have come along offering more power. When Jesus faced this temptation in the wilderness, he saw right through it, but Jesus was in continual communion with the Father. Jesus maintained a strong relationship with the living God.
@@CarlaJeanneVornheder The mystery of Jesus seems to be that he was both God and Human. What's even more mysterious to me is that Jesus includes us in this paradoxical integration of Spirit and Flesh. - Jesus told Nicodemus not to be astonished at the idea of being both physical & spiritual (John 3:5-8) Also consider Jesus prayer (John 17:20-23). I guess that’s the mystery Paul spoke of in his letter to the Colossians at the end of chapter one - the mystery which had been hidden throughout the ages and had been revealed in Jesus - the mystery which he called “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Jesus seems to be his human name and Christ to refer to the anointing or Spirit aspect. He seemed to indicate that this is there for everyone. Acknowledging this in day to day life creates an awareness which I think of as communion with God.
@@thelmaallen9424 me too. These days, I think of the tension in us between Spirit and flesh. Sometimes I wonder what things Jesus did for an example to us. Everybody always talks about the things He did that only God can do. I like to look at his human side, as well. I think He showed us how to live as Christians. (Maybe that's dumb to say. Of course.) He's the best counselor. Christian, secular, counselors come in a lot of varieties. The only truly trustworthy person is Jesus. But if I pray for appointments before I go, then I seem to hear God working sometimes thru interesting people. Sometimes I get confused, but Thank God for giving us someone who walked in our shoes.
Sorry, but in opinion, Russell Moore appears to have changed. He used to sound like a theological book. As a hispanic involved in the Southern Baptist church for over 20 years, I used to follow and cheer his position through hardship. But a lot of people turned on him for his political views. I left SBC too but Russell appears to have changed in his focus to lead people to Christ. I feel there was a change but will give him the benefit of the doubt as I don’t follow as much as I did when he was in the ERLC.
Candidates on the “other” side aren’t running as the champions of Christianity. Nationalism is what the Nazis used to attempt to eliminate Jews and others. Listen to the rhetoric- Nazi and MAGA rhetoric is very very similar.
This conversation has been a balm to my soul. Thank you
Russ Moore and David French, This should be GOOOOOOOD 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have so much respect for these two men. They speak with honesty and integrity.

This was a wonderful event. I have great respect for both of these courageous men. Grace and peace

Evangelicals driven by fear? You mean like Russ's fear for his life when he served at the ERLC? What?

Do you believe Jesus was Himself God?

I find myself in agreement with some of their positions. However, is voting for a candidate who has objectively evil policies the answer?
Killing women in pregnancy because you're ignorant is objectively evil.

Wolves in sheep clothing!
More like goats in wolves clothing.
Maybe diversity helps force love, justice, and mercy!
Good thing is trump will exit the stage, bad thing is those that chose his way of ignorance and hatred will have lost a lot of family and friends
