Slow living isn’t a trend for me. It's a lifestyle I have embraced for years; I learned it from my mom and grandma. We always just took our time to enjoy the beauty of the everyday. I’m a romantic at heart, with a practical lifestyle approach to “keep it simple.” I grew up on a farm, which furthered my love of simplicity and back to the basics mindset.
We moved six months ago to our cozy cottage, and we are in the process of fixing it up. I strive to make our home cozy and inviting no matter what remodeling stage we are in. Making a home hygge and cozy is just a normal way of life for me, and I can’t imagine it any other way.

AS A SENIOR, I MISS MY OLD FAMILY RECIPES FOR A LARGER FAMILY. STOPPED COOKING THEM BECAUSE TOO WASTEFUL FOR ONE PERSON. COOKING THEM AGAIN NOW DOING THE FREEZER MEALS. SUCH A GREAT IDEA. NO WASTE, LESS CLEANUP, HANDY ON BUSY DAYS AND GREAT FOR WHEN COMPANY STOPS BY.

My mother ate out for a couple years after my dad passed away. Finally she started cooking again and freezing things in one-serving containers. She would just go out to the freezer each day and decide what she wanted for dinner. She always had a nice selection of meals and so economical and tasty.

My family LOVES the million dollar spaghetti. So I’ll make up about 6 and they’ll be gone in no time. That’s their go to when I’m working nights. I also like to make squash casserole since it’s a little time consuming to just make on a week night. Enchiladas (white chicken and seafood) are their favorites. My husband & I took 2 hrs(we are in our 60’s & slow) to make up beef, bean & cheese burritos. We ended up having those for supper with some salsa, queso, & white cheddar, baked in a casserole dish. Since we had the tortilla’s out, we threw some bacon in the oven & a tray of 18 beaten eggs for bacon egg & cheese breakfast muffins. We also did some sausage patty for some too. We bagged up about a lb. of bacon for BLT’s later on. We scrambled up 18 more eggs & cut up another lb of bacon & shredded cheese for bacon egg & cheese breakfast burritos. Breakfast items at our house are our go to for a snack for after work or after school for the grandkids. We are raising 2 of our grandkids as my daughter passed 6 yrs ago from cancer. And although this amount of food would of lasted the two of us a good long time 6 yrs ago. It doesn’t go very far now! The grandkids are 9 & 16. And it’s rare that we don’t have more than just us eating.
I think the quiche would be a great idea! And feed a crowd, with some leftovers for my husband to take to work. Any other quick & easy recipes that freeze well. Or dump & go recipes would be appreciated. Thanks for all your great ideas!😁

I know that is a lot of work. You; however, make it look easy 😊 All the food looked scrumptious Abby Jo. I like how you dropped a little zucchini in the meatballs. The quiche is delicious and I haven't made any in quite awhile so thank you for the reminder. I'm interested in the chicken dish also. Have a blessed weekend 🕊✝️🙏

For the freezer I make a tortellini, sausage, fire roasted tomato, small diced carrot, chopped onion and minced garlic and cumin soup with chicken stock (which I always have in my freezer). I cook like you do, no recipe. Just make it taste good. Super easy and makes quite a lot. I get a pack, of tortellini at Costco and use a pound of sausage, a few carrots, a large onion and quite a bit of garlic. I always have finely chopped jalapeños in my freezer so I add a few. S&P.
Thanks for the ideas. I’m subscribing.

hello from Norway! I dont see you use fish in your freezer meals? just thought ill give you a great recepie for norwegian fish gratin.
for this i use frosen white fish. any will do, choose a frosen and cheap one. i partly defrost it, just so i can cut it into chunks.
boil macaroni, make a bechamel sause and add egg yolks. in a a freezerfriendly container blend the macaroni, bechamel, fish and a few frozen vegitables (carots, peas, corn, spring onion, what you like). wisk the egg whites until stiff and spred it ontop of the fish and macaroni mixture. add bread crumbs on top. now it can be frozen. when i serve it i like to add a bit of melted butter and maybe some dill. hope youll enjoy😊

My last stock ups for quick meals were some individual size pot pies and quiches, some premade waffles and French toast, meatballs and pierogis. I need to make up more chicken and rice burritos as my husband prefers those to the ones I like with beans in them but I haven't made chicken in a bit and my burritos tend to be made with leftovers the same as my pierogis.

Great job… i do a lot of the same. But i do like to go ahead and cook some of my pizza crust into smaller personal sized portions. And freeze them. Then all you have to do is take it out put on your toppings and throw it in the oven or air fryer and in three minutes. You have a done meal. 😊

I stock my freezer with cooked chopped chicken (made from cooking two whole chickens), uncooked mini meatloaves, pre-cooked beans, pre-cooked rice, shaped raw hamburgers (usually seasoned sometimes not), and shredded cheese (block of cheese shredded at home tastes better than pre-shred from the store).

I’ve been cooking up bacon and breakfast sausage to have in the freezer. They only take a few minutes to reheat in the oven or on the stove while the rest of breakfast is cooking and it makes bagels or English muffins feel a little more rounded out as a meal. I need to do meatballs, my kids love meatball sandwiches! I really want to try the honey garlic chicken too.

Hello Rhonda, Thank you! Our garden isn't growing yet, we live in zone 4 everything is still on our growing rack. Next year I hope to have a green house :) I need to do a video on long term storage and the pantry soon. But I would focus on the basics first, and things your family like to eat. Have a lovely weekend.

I have always wanted to do these planned out meals that were frozen but we live in the 🥵 hot AZ summers that we are almost on the brink to we don’t use the ovens. It’s just that hot. The air fryer and dehydrators even put off way too much heat. If you have more ones that you can share from the instapot or crock pots I would greatly appreciate it if you have ideas ❤❤❤❤❤ bless you for doing these videos

    • @ForgottenWayFarms
      @ForgottenWayFarms  Рік тому +1

I usually make mine in a smaller pie tin that I can fit into a freezer bag. But you can also wrap it well in plastic wrap and tin foil or freezer paper. I reheat slowly in a 325 oven to warm thoroughly and crisp up the crust.
