I’ve come up with a response to the whacky narcissistic comments and criticisms. I say in a soft voice and with deference, with the last Word rising up as if to ask a question. “ sounds like you’ve got a reason for saying that?” The key is to not be sarcastic whatsoever. But calm, cool, collected. Same thing when they ask a critical question. “ sounds like you’ve got a reason for asking that?” For whatever reason, this tactic stops them in their tracks. They know we are not reacting; we are responding. I have a neighbor who makes critical comments of me and uses subtle put downs. The last time he did this in front of all the neighbors I asked him, “sounds like you’ve got a reason for saying that?” Everyone was silent for a few seconds. He looked embarrassed. He never said another word. The key is to use a very calm thoughtful voice. No anger. No sarcasm. Total control. Works every time.

I'm mentally disabled. I was recieving allowance from my narc father but recently stopped. I was addicted to that money. But leaving that and trusting in God to support me I became closer to God and broke free from how I would react to him. He would treat me however he wants and since I was so binded to getting that allowance money, I bottled myself up. Now I don't have to be petty and cling on to him or get angry at the fear of losing my allowance. I'm so happy I found an answer after all these years.

Hey Melanie, I only recently discovered your channel and I just want to say a massive thank you to you and affirm your total amazingnous!!! I'm fifty this year and since discovering NPD last month and binge watching everything I could find on the topic...just wow, this has been a total revelation; kind of like that penny drop moment in the Sixth Sense, except with all the narcs who've been in my life instead of ghosts in a movie. Unfortunately we expect perceive the narcissists as another human- being like us, ,which they definitely are not. "They are like a parasitical virus who needs your pain , fear wounds and insecurities." When we stop our sense of victim model , by giving all our power, trust and and responsibilities to this virus, we assume our power back , We are back in the driving seat.

When you are stuck due to financial reasons and the narc even assisted in destroying my job .. leaving me financially insecure and on top they are hostile ??
This is what narcissist do in order to keep control over you. I encourage you to seek outside resources to help you get out.

OMG. Yes! This is exactly my situation right now. I was bowled over when I read your comment.
I had my awakening in mid 2016 so I no longer give my power to the narc (husband of 20 yrs- together since we were 16).
Anyway... My problem isn't emotional stuff anymore I'm long over him. (Only after he parked me south of Hell and ripped me open, pulverized me and his cheating was the cause of *him* having *me* locked up -I was suicidal ) And I'm quite bored of his baby games. I just don't care and I live my own full life with no desire to react to his bs and I pass on his mind games. I happen to still be married on paper to.. and living under the same roof as the narc. But I don't love, like or have any feelings for him other than minor annoyance at times which I keep to myself. But I'm not financially in a position to be on my own. So.. Yes, I am stuck because of the money. He's been financially abusive for so long that I lost my credit score! I now have what's called a "slim credit profile". Caused by him insisting that everything be in his name... It was as if I didn't exist for 15 years.
Bc back during that time when I was still susceptible to his gut wrenching gaslighting, and all the other games these empty containers play, I couldn't work.. went into self isolation mode for nearly 5 years after being unemployed (living in my darkened bedroom) literally. But I couldn't work- I'm a licensed Hair Stylist (since 18 yrs old) and a damn good one too. I'm also an artist, albeit starving lol.. hence why I have yet to be able to take my 3 kitties, my plants and all my stuff and leave. No money. OMG no one knows how much I want to have my own cozy place.
I feel I'm about to make a breakthrough tho.
I wish you love and positive energy Suzi. I know you can do this. I know you will find a way out financially. That's what I tell myself too.

I appreciate your comment however, "encouraging" one to "seek outside resources" to help her get out, is much easier to encourage* than to be in that position and actually do it. You know, I can find help all day long and I'm sure she can as well, but how will I pay my bills until I can get my credit score back up to even have a score? I can't even get utilities turned on in my name because I've got no score yet. I used to have a score of 800 until the narc had his way with the finances. And with 3 animals that I absolutely refuse to just abandon, it's just not that simple- encouraged to seek outside resources or not.

@@Jane.Doe. I have been in the situation otherwise I wouldn't have replied. When you realize what they are and decide to get out, you find a way at all costs. Or ar least I did.
For a very long time I allowed him to keep control over me and found all the reasons why I couldn't leave. Then one day, I decided that my life was worth taking back, no matter how hard that would be. It has taken me 6 years to finally start to build myself up financially and emotionally. None of it has been easy but it has been worth it.

Of all the spiritual battles, narcissist have been extremely difficult. They received an upgrade of sorts in the early 90's and haven't let up since. 😦
What happened in the early nineties?
I became non reactive. The namecalling and threats literally make me laugh, because its so transparent.

I deal with a narc mother and brother who have managed to turn every family member against me. They drive me crazy then connivingly point it out to others and those family members quickly believe it because they are zealous of me so they love to think less of me. If it wasn't for all my friends who far outnumber my entire family 10 to 1 I would have crumbled thinking there was something wrong with me or that it was my fault. That is a trick they do.
I finally got a restraining order against my abuser and parasitic ex but I am pregnant and struggling with how to navigate no contact and moving on while having his baby. Do I move on and make it impossible for him to find us when the year is up or do I honor the child's father and simply contact him with appropriate milestones or info? He was an alcoholic on top of everything and very untrustworthy while drinking so I fear for the child's safety and would never let her alone with him. I am declaring my Narcissistic immunity and wanting to move on without any contact to me new wonderful life with my baby girl!

Melanie! What if my husband is a good person but his parents are narcs..I have cut contact with them..But he doesn’t want to, and he doesn’t agree/acknowledge anything wrong with them..I have a strong feeling he covers their facade and he is not honest with me..What do I do?

Hold your ground and boundaries. Its not your job to change his perspective on them, since this can backfire. He will see for himself from how they react on you holding your ground calmly.
