  • A couple of months ago we purchased a Starlink after some non-existent internet access in parts of Central and Central West NSW.
    We review Starlink and how it works for us as well as step through how we mounted it to get it off the ground to remove obstructions.

    Research carefully before cutting the cable and reterminating the RJ45 Connectors. Starlink uses a non standard cable layout. As long as you duplicate this, all is good.
    Starlink also has a pole mount adaptor which can fit various sized poles. This works well, but needs an Allen key to fit and remove, however the Starlink dish slots right in and you can run the cable inside the tube. Consider a 2-3 metre high tripod (speaker stand). This gives additional flexibility to position the dish if you park the van under shade.

      Thanks for the heads up Chris. We have found this information in our research also. We're very happy with our starlink mount solution. It works perfectly & it's a much cheaper option.

    Great content as it is the best idea for a temporary mount that I have seen...........how did you ever think of using a locking plumbing fitting...genius.
    But advice on your video...the music is way too loud compared to the voice content....to hear what you say means you then get blasted by the speakers when the music comes on....could put people off from watching.

    Great video, off to the hardware store 👍.
    We've had Starlink for a while now, and wouldn't be without it!
    Only one suggestion for your videos in future. Don't make the music so much louder than the audio. Trying not to disturb the neighbours in the showgrounds at 6:30am while watching your video, had a mad scramble for the volume buttons as soon as the music started! 😀 , otherwise a great video. See you on the road somewhere 👍

      @@FTCA No that music is annoying. I turn up for the voices only to be drowned out when the music is turned up and fyi, it's not top of the charts stuff and maybe best left out. But, you know best.
      Clever use of irrigation pipe connectors. Great work!

      Agree - a lot of you tubers make this error and it is a pain trying to adjust volume up and down every few seconds, but aprpeciate the effort of making the video!

      Hi there, the extendable pool pole is similar to this one (ours is black) and the joiner is a Philmac 32mm joiner.

      Not necessarily, but I don't want to run the risk of it getting damaged as it's required for Bel's work.
      Costs a total of about $60 and literally only takes about 60 seconds to put up

    what is the name or model of the support you bought to install the antenna?

    • @FTCA

      It's a telescopic pool handle from bunnings. I'm not sure of the make/model but it's a 1.8m to 3.6m extension. Hope that helps.

    Hi guys, can you just turn on portability from residential at anytime?

    • @FTCA
      @FTCA  5 місяців тому

      Hey 👋
      When we purchased we got the residential plan with portability but this isn't available anymore.
      The plans have changed to either residential or roam. I believe you can switch between the plans by contacting starlink.
      Roam plan can be paused when not in use, you can use your starlink anywhere and is slightly more expensive.
      On the residential plan, you can only use starlink in the cell attached to your registered address and it is cheaper.

    The monthly cost seems a bit excessive? I suppose using it for work is a tax deduction.

    • @FTCA
      @FTCA  Рік тому

      When we compare it with our Telatra data only plan it was not that much more expensive. If we park up somewhere for a period of time we change the registered address and turn off portability saving us $40 /month. For us, having reliable access is essential so we are happy to pay it but for others reliable internet might not be an essential so it might not be worth the cost.

      @@FTCA . . . and some people are turning their phone plans off altogether because they can do it all via wifi. Also one gentleman was deciding whether to leave the sat phone at home as the SL unit can act as an emergency device AND is a hellova lot cheaper. So it can replace, sat phone, satellite tv, phone data plans and phone plans in total if you want to really offset some if not all of that Starlink outlay.
