    • Vanlife Camping | Fina...
    Who are we?
    Hey Guys! We are Ryan, Mary & Cisco. We have hit the road in our converted Ram Promaster van in pursuit of seeing this beautiful world & making lifelong memories together. We started this journey in our first RV; a Thor Four Winds 28A. However, we recently decided to switch over to a van. We felt it was the best decision for us & better fits our purpose for life on the road. We sold our home in Maryland, started renting out our townhouse, somehow fit EVERYTHING we own into a 10x15 storage unit & embraced full-time RV life & NOW - van life! We are starting with traveling the States & would love to push it even further. We feel so blessed & thank the good Lord for this opportunity to see, learn and experience brand new places in our home-on-wheels. We would love to have you along for the journey...to laugh with us, cry with us, celebrate with us and, of course, fail & pick up the pieces with us. Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss anything!

    I also run the cable down the side of there van and gently close it in the bottom of the door. The weatherstripping will compress enough to not damage the cable and coming in through the bottom of the door will keep rain from flowing along the cable and into your van 😁

    We full-time and got ours set up just last week in an area with no cell service. Clocking 300/30 and Wi-Fi calling and texting has worked great. $150/mo is a big pill to swallow, but if you want connectivity nothing is "cheap". When in a good 5G area we'll just use our T-Mobile internet box and pause the Starlink.

    Mary, you did a great job of coordinating. The boys(Ryan and Cisco) would be lost without you.

    I just ordered my Starlink online, $299 for the latest one. It's $200 off for like 28 states. I was actually trying to order it for service and shipping to Oaxaca, Mexico but my credit card wasn't going thru. It kept giving me a notification about having my bank authorize the transaction but they weren't getting anything on their end, so I ended ordering it for shipping to my home address here in the US, but I plan on activating in Mexico. I ordered my kit on July 2nd and just shipped today. I'm turning one of my parent's home in Mexico into a Smart Home using HomeKit, so I'm also bringing an Apple TV, a couple Apple routers to make a mesh network, camera doorbell, and a few smart switches. Can't wait to finally have proper internet where the only other option is cellular internet which sucks and its hella expensive.

    I have had Starlink service since November 2023 ... I have the Gen 2 system. I'm in central Georgia about an hour south of Atlanta. I don't have any wired internet in my area and a very weak cell signal.
    Before getting starlink Last fall we had Hughesnet satellite service for the last five years ...

      lol. Yeah I had that feeling that I needed to but we were already half way back up the mountain. Some days are longggg and you tend to forget things. But I think it’s what makes traveling so fun. You never know how the day is going to go. Always something new and we are never perfect by no means haha. 🤣

      Just started my van build by a master van builder on UA-cam and I will need Starlink. Do you see any reason to not get the rooftop install kit so it turns on/off by a switch in the van. Your thoughts???

    • @happietobehere
      @happietobehere  Місяць тому +1

      Honestly it just comes down to the price which is around $2500 and usually installation. Also I like being able to move it around. If we park under trees it won’t get a clear space for the satellites. I might still mount one but make it where I can detach it and still move it out away from the van. Sometimes we like to park in the shade but have the Starlink dish out away from us pointing towards the open skies. Hope that helps.

    • @SherylKatz
      @SherylKatz Місяць тому

      @happietobehere Thank you 😊 There is an extention option which raises tge dish pretty high up above the trees. From what I understand all of them can be moved but just the 1 can be mounted for use while driving. I hope you are enjoying yours!! 💕

    I can't believe you just now got a starlink!! We have had one for a long time now - the gen 2. Love it. Out where I live there are dead zones everywhere for cell service. My dad just recently got a gen 3.. not a fan of the size and needing to manually move it around.. not sure why they did that. Will be interested to see how yall like it. Speeds are about the same between the gen 2 and gen 3.. the big problem with starlink in general is the upload speed and thats what I always pay attention to and I don't use the built in starlink speed test because it never matches actual speed tests you run through a browser.. so its pretty misleading. Cool van! subscribed to your channel. Will be cool to see what yall are out doin. keep em comin!!

      What’s going on!! Thanks for the sub. 🙌🏽. Honestly between Verizon home internet, T-Mobile and AT&T we were usually fine until we started boondocking off grid in New Mexico. So far the speeds are not bad but we definitely only use it as a last resort kind of thing lol. I’m excited to get more use and testing out of it out west. 😀

      @@happietobehere hell yea! we have an ATT hotspot and a booster we use primarily and then only use the starlink when we got nothing.. which is often. I'll keep a lookout on your videos and see how it goes for ya! Bet it is awesome out west!
