Loved this video! I left the apple world for quite a few years, but recently picked up and iphone and M2 air for the ecosystem, and this was a nice refresher on how everything works. Couldn't be happier with the decision to switch back to Apple stuff from Linux.
I also really, really love that Apple pushes you to use FileVault by default. I'm skeptical of some of Apple's practices, but it's pretty clear to me that out of all the other massive companies, they care the most about privacy.

Using only FLOSS, Qubes, and GrapheneOS sounded secure and private but I disliked actually using my devices because of it. I’m not a journalist, politician, researcher, activist, etc., and so I simply don’t need the amount of privacy this software was allowing for, because I’m almost assuredly not being surveilled more thouroughly than dragnet fed-bots and advertising companies. And so, Apple’s decent privacy with good security was enough for me to feel comfortable almost all of the time. I still have and use the linux machine, just less regularly and only for particularly sensitive things. It runs my torrenting (in a VM as to not let malware creep out), Whonix, and a couple games that I can’t run on MacOS.

Might use Graphene when I upgrade to a phone that's compatible. I hear Apple blocks other trackers and use their own, and I just like how Linux works, but I do understand that there are advantages and stuff (i.e. software support, convenience with ecosystem.)

A lot of these commands are exactly the same in Windows. What I find is if you were a “power user” in Windows mostly everything you knew translates to Mac.

i think the migrating is before signing into apple id which you can skip past if you want to set it up fresh and still sign in but im sure some stuff will transfer considering your icloud is linked to a lot
If I understand your question correctly the following. I Cloud data should move rather quickly. For the rest I would suggest to transfer Via external hard drive or via airdrop

Hi, thanks for your compliment. When you open your computer the first time, you need the password. Every time thereafter, when you wake it from its sleep :), the finger ID is enough

i have a windows laptop currently, I am definitely getting a macbook next time i need an upgrade, this is insane, NO SIGN IN REQUIREMENT?? SIMPLE SET UP INTERFACE?? this seems great, combined with the macbooks with apple silicon with insane battery, my next laptop will be a mac.
You don't have to sign in to your Apple ID, but Apple heavily encourages you to do so. And plus, some of the features like App Store and iMessage, etc won't work without being signed in. You can still download programs outside of the App store, but I wouldn't put it past Apple in the near future to make it harder and harder to do so.
What is this 2 factor authentication for?? To help retrieve/ recover freon your device id or apple id??i got into apple id account recovery mode as apple prompted me to change my working apple id password to a new one for security reason and so i did and then apple rejected my new apple id password and unknowingly i exceeded my password attempts and then i don't know how i ended up at account recovery mode and i used the 2 factor authentication ie my contract number and email and got otps to verify and the otps got accepted but apple still failed to authenticate me and i can't do anything until the time period apple had given me to recover as per apple support. I can log into my device though. It's the apple id i can't use and it's needed for every little thing in apple world. What a stupid thing to have.
Hi Bikram, I highly recommend the 2FA. In case your user name and password appear in a data leak, your device can not be approached if you have 2FA. As far as your problem is concerned with the Apple ID. These things are great if they work, but if not they can cause a headache. From own experience I find the Apple help desk in general very helpful

We don't have physical apple stores here, i called apple customer support multiple times but they can't help me with the acc recovery. They said it's an automated process and there's nothing i or they can do anything about it. I just didn't understand if apple touts or boasts so much about security, how did it fail to recognize my correct password which according to apple was incorrect. Also if the password entered was incorrect, then why wasn't there a pop up before the final attempt warning me that this is your last and final attempt, please check your password. Apparently there seems to be pop up for every thing. Why not here. Also if account recovery is such a bad option, why give a pop up or show this option to the users?? Why not a option saying that please contact apple care if your finding it difficult to enter password. I didn't voluntarily clicked on account recovery. No one would do that if there was a warning on it. We just cannot keep visiting the support or guidelines pages for each neverything. That's not how a tech should work. If a user has to call up customer support just to reset a password or recover a password, that simply means it's a very complicated eco system.a complicated OS. No other os or eco system needs tech support or customer support just for this rudimentary thing. Also i didn't understand the whole purpose of verifying a user with their contact number and email id. What was there whole purpose of giving that info to apple if it can't verify the user with those. I got otps on my contact and email which got accepted by apple but still didn't allow me to recover my id. It simply means it's a inferior system. Also why do i need to put my password for every little thing. Shouldn't that be the user's choice instead of apple trying to force this upon us. I said forcefully because the settings if any for using passwords or not to use it comes preset from the factory without the user's knowledge and request which i think is not right and forceful. It always should be the user's right to use it or not. It's a wastage of time to keep entering your passwords for everything.i don't have a magic keyboard. When the user is already logged into his device which obviously their credentials were approved by apple, i don't even understand why do u need to enter passwords again. Our security is our concern. It shouldn't be apple's concern. This is idiotic. Now I'm completely helpless and feel like a donkey for no fault of mine and don't even know if iwould be able to recover my apple id after the waiting period.
Hi Tung, more ways to do it. Best is to create a Time Machine back up of the Macbook you want to restore from and then transfer the backup to the new Macbook.
Just a suggestion. I just recieved a laptop. A single click is not working.even multiple clicks were responding late. Chat gpt told me to first complete the setup and then go to system setting and remove force click settings. Now the laptop is running fine in a single click.

At the Apple ID section, I assume that is your iCloud account and not your iTunes account? The password you talked about, is that the one for opening up the Mac when you switch it on and not the iCloud password? I’ve always migrated over to any new Mac’s but on this occasion I have a new MacBook Pro M2 14” that I’m setting up as a new Mac to work alongside my Mac mini M1 but I want to use both my iCloud and iTunes accounts.

I'd go for the 8gb! For a lot of machines it wouldn't be enough, but MacOS is pretty optimized for memory. I'm also a student and use the base model M2 (with 8gb), and it's been great. It's also been enough for some light gaming.
My Macbook air froze right after entering the apple ID, it was "setting up icloud" and froze, I hat to reboot it and I couldn't finish the configuration process.....

Should work. I use TimeMachine as well. After transfer make a TimeMachine back up for your new device. And enjoy your new MacBook Pro!!

You can use different Apple IDs if you want, but its best to use the same one so that everything syncs across between devices.

To help retrieve/ recover freon your device id or apple id??i got into apple id account recovery mode as apple prompted me to change my working apple id password to a new one for security reason and so i did and then apple rejected my new apple id password and unknowingly i exceeded my password attempts and then i don't know how i ended up at account recovery mode and i used the 2 factor authentication ie my contract number and email and got otps to verify and the otps got accepted but apple still failed to authenticate me and i can't do anything until the time period apple had given me to recover as per apple support. I can log into my device though. It's the apple id i can't use and it's needed for every little thing in apple world. What a stupid thing to have.
Hi Bikram, I highly recommend the 2FA. In case your user name and password appear in a data leak, your device can not be approached if you have 2FA. As far as your problem is concerned with the Apple ID. These things are great if they work, but if not they can cause a headache. From own experience I find the Apple help desk in general very helpful
@@DionMedia thanks for your reply, by apple help desk, what do u mean, apple support?? We don't have physical apple stores here, i called apple customer support multiple times but they can't help me with the acc recovery. They said it's an automated process and there's nothing i or they can do anything about it. I just didn't understand if apple touts or boasts so much about security, how did it fail to recognize my correct password which according to apple was incorrect. Also if the password entered was incorrect, then why wasn't there a pop up before the final attempt warning me that this is your last and final attempt, please check your password. Apparently there seems to be pop up for every thing. Why not here. Also if account recovery is such a bad option, why give a pop up or show this option to the users?? Why not a option saying that please contact apple care if your finding it difficult to enter password. I didn't voluntarily clicked on account recovery. No one would do that if there was a warning on it. We just cannot keep visiting the support or guidelines pages for each neverything. That's not how a tech should work. If a user has to call up customer support just to reset a password or recover a password, that simply means it's a very complicated eco system.a complicated OS. No other os or eco system needs tech support or customer support just for this rudimentary thing. Also i didn't understand the whole purpose of verifying a user with their contact number and email id. What was there whole purpose of giving that info to apple if it can't verify the user with those. I got otps on my contact and email which got accepted by apple but still didn't allow me to recover my id. It simply means it's a inferior system. Also why do i need to put my password for every little thing. Shouldn't that be the user's choice instead of apple trying to force this upon us. I said forcefully because the settings if any for using passwords or not to use it comes preset from the factory without the user's knowledge and request which i think is not right and forceful. It always should be the user's right to use it or not. It's a wastage of time to keep entering your passwords for everything.i don't have a magic keyboard. When the user is already logged into his device which obviously their credentials were approved by apple, i don't even understand why do u need to enter passwords again. Our security is our concern. It shouldn't be apple's concern. This is idiotic. Now I'm completely helpless and feel like a donkey for no fault of mine and don't even know if iwould be able to recover my apple id after the waiting period.

Hi Tung, more ways to do it. Best is to create a Time Machine back up of the Macbook you want to restore from and then transfer the backup to the new Macbook.

I just recieved a laptop. A single click is not working.even multiple clicks were responding late.
Chat gpt told me to first complete the setup and then go to system setting and remove force click settings.

At the Apple ID section, I assume that is your iCloud account and not your iTunes account?
The password you talked about, is that the one for opening up the Mac when you switch it on and not the iCloud password?
I’ve always migrated over to any new Mac’s but on this occasion I have a new MacBook Pro M2 14” that I’m setting up as a new Mac to work alongside my Mac mini M1 but I want to use both my iCloud and iTunes accounts.
I just got a m2 MacBook Air and this helped me to I love the midnight color but not the fingerprints lol

I'd go for the 8gb! For a lot of machines it wouldn't be enough, but MacOS is pretty optimized for memory. I'm also a student and use the base model M2 (with 8gb), and it's been great. It's also been enough for some light gaming.
