Foxtail in a Dogs Ear: Removing a Plant Seed

- Dogs with ear problems shake their head and scratch at their ear. Common causes of ear problems are allergies, hairy ears(pollens or food), small ear canals, swimming, foxtails, mites, or growths
This vet was really professional and knew what he was doing. Great job.
Acting on Morals not Orders Thanks
I agree --- if I owned a little doggie --- I would want this guy as his vet
agreed 100% I would take my two dogs to this guy any day.
What a great doctor, you can tell he's a good guy and also very professional. I wish he was in my area lol. Jack and his owner are awesome too.
This guy is an amateur.

I think if you were professional you would be wearing gloves
Beki bekteshi Does your doctor put gloves on when he touches your ears? I’ll assume yes because you’re so DISGUSTINGly stupid lol jk but fr people can wash their hands
Quote: *”Opening always helps”*
@@bekibekteshi8258 The reason a clinician wears gloves is to protect the clinician, not the other way around.

We eat dog
@@toddmoore112 i don't
@Alexei Passmore why ?
Kieran Namo yo are weird
Vishal Thakral It’s weird for people to eat dogs because they’re pets. They are domesticated. Cows are livestock raised to be slaughtered or otherwise. One is a part of your family , the other is food for a family. Unless you vegetarian of course 🤪
I almost thought that the assistant was the dog’s owner. I can tell He’s loving his job💜😆
I'm really glad you helped him! It makes me sad to hear that weeping voice dogs give off when they are hurt, but they must feel soooooo much better once helped. I love all animals sooooo much! Good on you for helping! :D
Soooo relieved to see this video. He's such a nice and caring vet! After watching some astonishing videos of Dr. Pol and the way he treats the animals, this was such a great video to restore my faith in vet humanity.
watching your videos makes me want to be a vet, I'm really glad to see someone who truely cares about animals :)
What I love about this video (other than the level of professionalism and care show by the vet) is that after the painful and distressing removal of the foxtail from his right ear, the dog doesn't complain at all when the vet looks in his left ear to ensure it's clear. It's almost like he now understands that the vet is trying to help him.
Watching the assistant smile and love on the dog warmed my heart up!!!
So cute
I fully believe foxtail grasses are carnivorous plants. They dig into animals and the place where they die provides a fully nutritious spot for the seeds to grow.
I have heard about that. It's basically a parasite.
Wait, they grow and lay seeds on animals....

Wow, I have watched a lot of these kinds of vids, and this is one of the absolute best! So informative, concise, and pleasant. Loved it! So happy that sweet pup feels better.
A foxtail is a sticky piece of a plant seed
Greg Martinez DVM how does a plant seed get in there 🤨
I had no idea of what foxtail was
Pearl B from playing outside. 🤦🏽♀️
Thank you Dr for all you do to help our 4 legged children.
My two dogs (now passed) used to get these wretched seeds stuck in their ears and they come from a grass plant we called barley grass (Hordeum glaucum and H. leporinum Google these to see what they look like) because the seeds are just like barley seeds. Most times the seeds would penetrate the ear drum and the seed spikes stop the seed form falling back out of the ear much in the same way as the barbs work on fish hooks. Keep up with the good work doc:D
Poor little guy, Thank you so much for helping him!
@rDarkWarrior It only cried for a second, then was fine!
Greg Martinez DVM aw... it hurt me when you called him an it.

Josh Jackson Well aren't you a special little snowflake?
@Chomthap A pointy sticky plant seed that gets stuck in the ear
Are dogs react the same way for all type of pain (like babies) or there is a noticable different version?

The guy in the brown scrubs has the best job ever-he gets to hug doggos!
Yep
Call your ;local vet for an estimate. It can cost from 100-400 depending on how bad the ear is and if sedation or anesthetic is needed
400 dollars for some ointment and 2 minutes with a surgical forceps. Typical vet.
The cost is mostly due to paying someone that's trained to do it and the facilities that they have. If you think it's too much you can try doing it yourself and see how well that goes for your and your pet. Plus it's more expensive depending on where you live.
Gamer George they have to pay for upkeep of the clinic and schooling and everything. Vets aren’t paid extraordinarily.

I just went through this today. Due to generous rains this year, foxtails are plentiful. My dog was walking in the sun and stopped to roll in a shaded patch of grass. She then started to yelp horrifically and shake her head. I tried to look in the ear, but she attacked me. It was a long walk home and a few hundred dollars before she was well again. My dog is vicious at the Vet's and so the whole process was very stressful. She had to be sedated for the ear probing, so I had her given the works. Nail clipping and vaccinations. She is now sleeping, peacefully.
love an honest vet who really cares !! THANKS FOR CARING LIKE YOU DO.. !!
You could actually see the relief in the dogs face
His owner's smile when he sees the foxtail is already removed is just so adorable awww.

But he's OK in the end! 😁😘💖
love how the guy on the right is being so soft with the doggo
Jack the pup was feeling pretty good at the end there, no nasty foxtail, little bit of happy juice floating through him, a nice ointment and a lovely massage of the hurt by kind knowing gentle hands. Good on mama for taking him in to get seen to by this wonderful fellow.
Foxtail made my active, playful, energetic 6 year old German Shepherd pretty miserable.
What is a foxtail ? I presume its not a tail form the real fox.

My dog has to be on Urinary SO to keep bladder stones away. I'm wondering if I can do the dog dish diet for her.
Hudson1910 Depends on the type of crystals and stones. Mild cases of struvite and oxalate may respond to diet and citrate supplementation
+Greg Martinez DVM we have two cats on urinary health from Royal Kanin , been on it for 3.5 years so far and they have to stay on it for the rest of their life. Costs $50 a case and we buy 4 a month . Plus the other three cats , and our 2.5 year old pit mix

He did that so fast and smoothly. 💕 good job doc
Fox tails are evil as hell and always get into my socks, just imagine that feeling in your ears. Poor thing, the way he cried
But how a fox 🐺shoved its tail
Our girl seems to keep getting infections and I wondered why and you said poodles and cockers are prone and our girl is a Cockapoo 😂😂😂
rose how is that funny? the dog is in pain
Toni-Ann Stewart probv the word cockapoo
Still don't know why you would want a dog with cock and poo in its name. The bloody things are everywhere now , fashion items !!
It's because dog's with floppy ears tend to get infections because the air can't get to the ear canal to keep it dry . Also , bacteria and things like yeast infections can wreak havoc in dark , moist places - - their favorite places to grow !!!! Always make it a habit to check your dog's ears at least once a week especially if they've been in the tall grasses , in a body of water ,or even out in the rain ! If you keep them clean and dry , you probably won't have any problems with your dog's ears . Also , be SURE to check for ticks .
1:31 I bet when Jack woke up this morning he wasn't thinking he'd be feeling tipsy at the Vet's today 🤣 Aww Jack did great. 😊
