  • Wanted to show that with sight modifications, and a good loading procedure, (some luck too) this gun can hit where it's aimed. Quite impressive considering the barrel is not part of the frame on these style guns.

    Fantastic. imagine, back in the day they use those pistols shoot Bullseye competition with. it's really a testimony to load development, proper practice and the fundamentals of Marksmanship. I really have a respect for your content shown here. Peace - Dave

      Appreciate that Dave. That gun is pretty zeroed using lube. In shooting with wads, same load, it wants to shoot two inches higher. Go figure. You can see that in the series I’m doing on shooting wads, lube and dry if you get the time. Stay safe. O.R.

    Good range day. Recently I started questioning the bore size of the .36 calibers based on chamber diameter I got when developing my bullets. So I did a video punching out a bullet from each of my Remington Navy's one peitta, the other uberti. The I slugged each barrel. The difference in tolerance #s is at least to myself is sizable.

      @StevenMMan: I have found that almost all of these chambers are undersize, if you drive a ball through the barrel then drop it in the chamber it usually falls in with no resistance, I then use an adjustable reamer to open up the chamber to a thou over groove diameter, I find it makes a huge difference. Thanks Doris. Believe I have a video somewhere on that. Sent you link (I think). Basically Crisco, Olive oil, bees wax, neatsfoot oil, but that won’t help much and the amounts are written in an outdoor shed where it’s currently 10 below, so…. Thanks for the info about GOEX, I’d heard Estes was working on getting them back on line. O.R.

    Wow, great shooting. Not sure if I missed an earlier video but have to ask, did you work the front sight too? Really appreciate these last two videos and looking forward to seeing more of your discovery.

    • @oldranger3044
      @oldranger3044  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks, I have at least one video of working on front sights, but no, this one I did a couple years ago and didn’t do a video on it. I had ground down the rear hammer (which I try to avoid now) and then had to build it back up. For whatever reason the gun shot to the left if I remember and had to offset the rear some to the right. Often shooting left or right depends on how the hammer comes backwards into the frame. Thats probably due to slight miss alignment of the screw holes in the frame that the hammer screw goes through, or the hole in the hammer not perfectly square to the hammer. It’s really pretty amazing for the $ that manufacturers do as they do. O.R.

      An interesting thing is that the same everything except shooting using wads, and shooting using neither lube or wads, it seems to shoot a couple inches higher. I’ll be putting out the rest of the videos shooting the same gun that shows this. O.R.

    If I have a colt design that stops just shy of being fully indexed when cocked very slowly, what is the issue? I thought it was the hand alone but others claim the arbor itself can also be bent or something. Local gunsmith wouldn't even touch it because the cylinder stops were beat up at first but I fixed them. The gun wasn't even timed properly at all when I got it. I at least got it somewhat working. Deepening the cylinder notches was a must.

    • @oldranger3044
      @oldranger3044  7 місяців тому

      Here’s a couple of guesses. Cylinder notches have wear. Not much most of us can do there. Weak spring. Again, that’s not an easy fix. The hand is a bit short. Most are not hardened, so heating say quarter to half inch from the tip up and hammering on the flat, enough to draw it out some. Being careful not to heat the spring, or no more spring. To CYA, I’m saying this should be done by a smith. Replacement of the hand is an option, but finding the right one can be tricky. Good luck with your continuing project. O.R.

    • @HircineDaWolf
      @HircineDaWolf 7 місяців тому

      yeah the one on it broke, i filed the replacement to get it working as good as it does now. Figured out another used project gun has the opposite problem. It overrotates if you really cock the action quickly. @@oldranger3044

    What was your load?
    Recipe for lube over ball?
    What is your sight picture? How high is front sight in rear sight?

    • @oldranger3044
      @oldranger3044  Місяць тому +1

      I have a video about 3 years ago that covers the lube, check out because I have to reference it myself whenever I need more. Later in the video I believe the load and process is covered. I shoot 6:00 hold which is pretty much point of aim at the inch dot. Top of front level with top of rear, typically the target shooting picture. Hopefully this answers, thanks for the interest. O.R.

      You could be on to something because I haven’t been able to get the smaller calibers to do quite as good as the 44’s. Keep up the good work. O.R.
