  • The greatest action figure of the 60's and 70's, if not all time, is definitely GI Joe. His journey from conception to the world's most popular toy
for boys is legendary. "Boys won't play with dolls!" they said. Maybe not!...but what about a movable action figure? Thus an icon was born.
Though he has evolved over the years from military hero...to Adventure Team leader... to a much smaller, but no less imposing version of himself,
GI Joe still stands as the King of the Action Figures. So join the Collector Guys for this fun look at the number one coolest action figure of the 60's and 70's.

I was always envious of the neighborhood kids next door,
In the 60s, who had the scuba gear suit. Seems they all the lasted combat gear for GI Joe.

I had friends who had Evil Knievel, Matt Mason, and Johnny West. In my own humble opinion, after GI Joe/Action Man, it was The Micronauts that stood head and soldiers above the other three. Steve Austin was cool but he was no Micronaut/ Microman!

The Atomic Man~ Mike Powers was not really completion for Steve Austin-The Six Million Dollar Man there is a backstory.
When Cyborg the novel write by Martin Cadin was made into a TV pilot for ABC in 1973 later on became the television series hit Universal Television wanting to make expand the brand in toys Hasbro and Kenner were pitching there best efforts to Universal Television.
But something didn't click with the Hasbro's design of Steve Austin so they went with Kenner Toys, But Hasbro chance a few things here and there and released Mike Powers The Atomic Man before Kenner's Six Million Dollar Man was released in 1975 for Christmas time and had a huge amount of sells.
But when The Six Million Dollar Man hit toy shelves it was over for Atomic Man and as they say rest is toy history!

My thing with Mike Powers, atomic man is why did the SOB only have one bionic leg? I bet he could play a mean round of hopscotch cos he certainly couldn’t run with just one mech leg!

The cover (hat or cap) is correct as it imitates the WWII caps, but this one has an Army rank which is incorrect. Both soldier and marine figures got the same covers. Later on they got the correct Marine covers in the commemorative or special figures. Anyway, great vid and awesome collection, I wished I would still have the ones I used to have when I was a kid. 👍

Ahhh Dude why did you stop short of Bullet Man!?! I know, I know… a lot of guys want to pretend like it never existed. I happen to be the greatest Bulletman collector ever to live on this planet… EVER!! I even have The Defender dressed like bullet man. If you dress a guy up in BM’s clothes today, he could have his way on a brass pole in a gay bar. But still, I love my bullet man. Quite honestly, it’s the only G.I. Joe my mom would buy for me. However 24 hours later, My dad saw it and tossed it in the trash. 40 years after that, during a conversation with my folks, I asked if they remembered BM and my dad said of course I do. I said well what happened to it? He exclaimed, “I threw it in the trash because no son of mine was going to play with dolls!” And that was that! 😅

I have an Action Man British Solider from 1964 made in England and by Hasbro. Is Action Man evolved through GI JOE? or is it separate. I'm a little confused with that.

GI JOE arrived in 1964 and a British company licensed it and created ACTION MAN in 1966. Full story here: ua-cam.com/video/-1MxYXHb6d4/v-deo.html

@@FrankKnight8846 no, action man is not gi joe but is not a knockoff either as it’s just palitoy being granted the ability to make their own gi joe but wearing British uniforms

@@FrankKnight8846 Action Man is equally as authentic as Gi Joe. It actually was way more successful, lasting almost a decade longer! Sucks Gi Joe shut down after ‘76 or so here.

    • @geographyinaction7814

Action Man was the British GI Joe, made under license by Palitoy. The British didn't give a shit about the anti-Vietnam sensibilities, so they continued to make military themes; Military themes were far more common in England than in the States after 1970.
Palitoy were the ones that invented the Kung Fu Grip or 'Gripping Hands', and the flocked hair. There were a lot of people who called Action Man a knock-off, and nothing could be further from the truth. Hasbro and Palitoy shared a lot of designs and platforms, often with only colours and decals being the difference.
When the 3 3/4" GI Joes came out, it was Action Force in Britain.

@@collectorguys The yellow 6 wheeler was supposed to float too, never tried that either.
I had the little boat with the outriggers and outboard motor, that "floated" but only in the bathtub, on the lake it'd sink almost immediately.
