This is everything I’ve ever wanted from IF. IF and a boatload of Naekusaba fics have shown time and time again how dirty Mukuro was done, both in and out of universe. The animation is also superb. I love the eyebrow twitch at 3:04 is just sooo good. This right here is art.
This animation, and the fanfic it's based on by extension, is the reason why I think Mukuro is one of the best characters in Danganronpa. If only DR3 did her justice.
Its not actually a fanfic, its a real spinoff light novel! Its called “Danganronpa IF”, and its honestly the best representation of Mukuro. Because canon Mukuro lacks much personality other than “loves Junko lol”. Its great!
Yeah, I think that realmy was a missed opportunity. Inatead of making Mukuro an interesting character, who follows Junko, but still has her own ideas and morals, they decided to make her an incestuous slave without a mind of her own, just an extension of Junko. I like DR3, i think it got a lot of things right, but this is one of its biggest flaws.
The way Junkuro looks towards the monitor as she starts backpedaling is a really nice detail. Both the VAs are wonderful. There is a difference between Mukuro’s acting and genuine voice that’s small enough to be noticeable but still not big enough to sound as though she is breaking character. Makoto has a nice dryness to his voice where he sounds exhausted all the time, but still willing to keep on going. It just gets better with multiple rewatches.
This is absolutely phenomenal and I really love all the effort and dedication poured into it. IF is one of my all times favorite stories in DR and that’s due to no small part of Mukuro’s great writing and development in it. Especially feels great seeing her open up and talk about her personal thoughts to Makoto and to see stellar animation and VA work applied to it is top notch. Thank you so much to everyone who made this possible.
man i miss them so much :') like i know Naegi and Kirigiri ended up together in the main canon but in another timeline, i think Naegi and Mukuro could've ended up together, their bond seems like it would had been developed naturally while to me, Naegi and Kirigiri only ended up together because there was no other potential love interest for Naegi.

Sayaka and Mukuro died early that's why Makoto had more time to develop his bond with Kirigiri in the games than any other possible love interest. Who says the same couldn't had happened with Mukuro if she had survived? It's all up to interpretation and how you want to see it.
@@malphite8797 umm no? he never rejected her as she never confessed? what's canon is that he likes Kirigiri and Mukuro likes Makoto. like the seasons, feelings could change so it's up to the fans imagination to decide what happens after. if a fan wants to imagine that Makoto eventually ended up with Mukuro they can, and if a fan wants to imagine he still ended up with Kirigiri they could. nobody ended up with anyone in IF nor it's been confirmed anything other their crushes. so leave the people alone to decide.
Since Dv3 said the first killing game was an actual game, my headcanon is IF is the canon story and the game's retelling is by a bunch of nuts reimagining what if it went on.
I love Danganronpa IF so much. Honestly, I was one of those kids that had a Danganronpa phase around my late high school to college years, but I eventually drifted away from the franchise. But one spinoff always stood the test of time for me and eventually made me discover my one true favorite character of the franchise- and its not even a canon variant of said character. IF!Mukuro holds a special place in my heart, I really love her lots. She may not be canon, but she’s definitely my Mukuro. Seeing this animation for Mukuro and DR IF just fills me with so much joy.
I haven’t seen the Danganronpa 3 anime fully yet, but from what little I’ve seen of it so far, they did Mukuro dirty in that show. I can definitely see what makes most prefer IF Mukuro.

to be honest, i would mix up moments said in this free time with moments that happened in IF in my memory because those were all we got of real mukuro's thoughts (before D3) :( but this is amazing! she's always been my fave, so i love seeing more appreciation for her character! especially in such a gorgeous animation!
I remember seeing theses clips spreading all over. God I’ll never get over how good this is! The first time I saw it I even thought it was something official because “I’m Nier” sounds exactly like Makoto’s dub actor.
I wish I could give this the endless praise it deserves, but all I can think to say after watching it is just... wow. You put so much effort into this, and it came out amazingly!

These past few weeks or months i got all excited and into Danganronpa again, and so while scrolling on Twitter i ended up finding you by chance (because of that drawing of Makoto offering Mukuro that yakiniku barbeque!). i thought your art style was so cute and how rare it is for me to see pixel art style art of Danganronpa, so it instantly piqued my interest to find out more about you! One thing leads to another and i found this video and... by the time i finished watching it, it gave me literally every reason i needed to read Danganronpa IF that same moment! your animation feels like such a beautiful work of art, truly! the passion and the dedication you have into this is contagious even!!! the quality in every aspect and bit of your video was so amazing... the voices, the smoothness, the art style...!!! Something i also felt after watching your animation is that i couldn't help feeling kind of an ache in my heart because of how i never really cared about Mukuro... and not gonna lie... i felt genuinely guilty about it and realized how deep and meaningful she sould've been... and even more, how her relationship with Makoto just feels so much more natural and honestly...? straight up the RIGHT choice! I’ve been a fan of this series since high school and I’ve always considered it to be one of my all time favorite games, I owned THH and Killing Harmony since it was hard to find Goodbye Despair anywhere on the PS Vita a had in high school (It broke too). I honestly only wanted the Vita just to play the Danganronpa games not caring about any other games such as P4G, I even wanted to play Ultra Despair Girls after I finished the three main visual novel games. I thought Danganronpa IF was a fan made alternate story about Mukuro doubting her sisters plan of plunging the world into despair and wanting no part of it but now that I see it’s an actual official story, I want to learn more about it. There’s even a mother light novel story about Kyoko and that makes happy knowing there’s so much care put into Danganronpa. Though the series is over, it left a big impact on me even before I owned one of the games and I still think it deserves to be more recognized by its batshit craziness that is blended in with great characters and intriguing story.
