Tesla owner here. We just got a rivian r1t bc they switched to NACS infrastructure. I was not going to depend on EA chargers. The only gripe I have now is that the Tesla chargers are too short for other manufacturers to be able to charge. a 50/50 shot is pretty harsh. I did a road trip cross country from Charlotte, NC to Palm Springs, CA in a Bolt along I40 most the way, keeping speeds with traffic. Stopped at the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas as well for a few nights. About 5700 miles done in 2 weeks and something like 40 charging stops which 35 were EA and out of those I never had a problem that was worse than waiting for a few minutes for a stall to open or a couple stalls being out of order. ~$430 total spent on charging cost for the trip, had a few free DCFC and L2 overnight at the Grand Canyon. I had a Leaf for 5 years with 100k+ miles put on it and now have had the Bolt for 2.5 years with over 90k+ miles put on it since I got it. Rented and overnight tested drove Model S, 3, and X something like 6k miles between the three to see how they are. I can't wait to see NACS take over CCS. Even with EA being relatively easy to use the Supercharging network and plug are just way more sleek and years ahead.
I am stunned to hear 40 CCS chargers were fully functional on a road trip. My experience is closer to 70% reliability. One dead DC fast charger in Naples, FL forced me to charge for 2 hrs at a level 2 to get home.
I think NACS will be standard in North America. I don’t think that means that public charging will improve. Maybe Tesla will manufacture and sell their chargers to third parties to install.

Great video I noticed we have a Rivian Charger now in Blowing Rock NC not so close to Winston where I live but nice to of found acouple months ago 😂 They should send out email’s to us owners when new ones are built.
The problem with putting a NACS charging port in the back of the R1T is that it needs to be positioned at least 3ft above ground level because it has to be above the water level when fording a river. You'll notice there's no room but it could be put on the passenger side at the front. Then why not do that and remove the present charging port on the drivers side as it won't be needed anymore.
I really wanted to see Ford,GM,Rivian,Toyota,Subaru,BMW and Mercedes to join Tesla because it’s too crowded at Electrify America CCS stations everywhere now.
If Rivian has its own network, they don't need to change. The others change because they don't want to build their own network. Having their own network eliminates the reliability issues with the independents who have no incentive to keep their chargers up and running. I am surprised that Rivian didn't build pull-through chargers knowing that their vehicles are likely to be towing .
The plug isn’t the problem, its the charging infrastructure behind it. No technical reason why EA can’t replace their hardware ( which isn’t actually theirs) with reliable tesla chargers, and the ccs adapter can charge ccs only cars.
This makes me realise how lucky we are here in Europe: all cars, including Tesla, are CCS 2-compatible and they all can charge at virtually every station. But Ionity, the equivalent of Electrify America (with involvement from VW and other manufacturers), is just as unreliable over here, unfortunately. The 50/50 sucess rate seems to apply for Ionity as well. Tesla Superchargers on the other hand are very reliable, there are lots more of them, and price per kWh is half of Ionity. Bit of a no-brainer...
These EV companies need to all get on the same page in terms of charging stations. Could you imagine if you could only fill up your car at certain gas stations? It's just stupid to liter the countryside with 20 different brands of super chargers when you could just have one that works for everything.
@@honesty_-no9he why are you so horrible. This little girl has a very cute face, even if you do not agree she is a little girl and as a grown up you need to lighten up. Peace.
A 2 sided spade connector would be far more compact than either. It could be so compact that you could hide the port very easily on a car, even seemingly without a door. If they are going to change it's better to get it right. The Tesla US connector is not particularly optimized. It's just the the combo ball sack design is particularly clumsy.
Tesla really needs to get their internet like Rivian. Even in the city watching UA-cam can be buffer crazy... plus we're paying but get no actual access to wifi for the kids and passengers.
Rivian needs to switch to NACS and then everyone can enjoy the positive Tesla SC network. Adding the Rivian Adventure Network to NACS would also benefit everyone as well. Adaptors suck and having fried my R1T port because of a Lectron adapter, I'll never go down this road again. We all need one standardized port and NACS is by far the best design regardless of Tesla. Say no to CSS Type 1!
People conflate NACS with Superchargers. Tesla has to give permission to car companies to use Superchargers, even if they have a native NACS chargeport.
I don’t think Tesla SCs are reliable because they’re Tesla SCs. They’re reliable because they’ve literally only ever needed to charge two vehicles (3Y, SX). When it comes to the myriad hardware/software that 3rd party providers have been tasked with working for since day one, we’ll see how well they fare. On the few MagicDock stations there have already been issues with non-Teslas. It’s a lot easier when everything is vertically integrated. We even see this with RAN, about which I’ve heard no complaints.
I loved my Rivian- took delivery in June 2022. I enjoyed 20k miles with plenty of adventure before I sold it to go back to ICE. EA is garbage and it’s unfortunate a great vehicle like the Rivian R1T is reliant on an awful charging infrastructure. Full disclosure- I currently own a Tesla and the Rivian replaced a 2018 model X that I bought new. When Rivian goes NAS I’ll come back.
CCS is so big and clunky you’d think it was designed to charge a semi but in fact it is less capable and less consumer friendly than NACS. I’d love to see it go away. I expect CCS will be sidelined. When Ford and GM announced the switch to NACS, the stock of GM, Ford & Tesla all went up. The market has spoken and it believes the switch to be positive for everyone. Who am I to argue?
Rivian to survive has to switch to Tesla they can save themselves hundreds of millions of dollars building their own charging network and sell more vehicles this way. I am afraid to road travel because of CCS. Rivian can switch gears and manpower to vehicle production and adding Apple Car Play instead of building charging network. I love my R1T but I have not forgotten my MYP. Rivian can add a NACS port on the right front side of the truck it would be perfect.
Unless Tesla makes their charging standard truly independent I don’t think switching to NACS makes sense for Rivian. Tesla(Elon) aren’t letting other companies use NACS without a future benefit to the company. They can control the market and allow Tesla’s to charge for less than other vehicles or give themselves a competitive edge over others. Plus I don’t think Tesla has plans for 800v charging infrastructure so not sure how that helps Rivian in the future.
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a R1T but my Insurance Agent advised against it, as their stock just tanked on the NASDAQ and I'm worried about resale and warranty/service issues! Also as mentioned here the charging infrastructure is poor and no cross compatibility yet with Tesla Superchargers! There is also rumors that its a 50/50 shot if the Charge America chargers work! Any advise people or existing Rivian owners? I'm a current Tesla Model Y w/FSD owner and beyond disappointed in the Tesla's range and reliability (besides the FSD almost killing me)! Has anyone mentioned the $15-20K value loss of Tesla's bought before December 2022?

Tesla Superchargers on the other hand are very reliable, there are lots more of them, and price per kWh is half of Ionity. Bit of a no-brainer...
These EV companies need to all get on the same page in terms of charging stations. Could you imagine if you could only fill up your car at certain gas stations? It's just stupid to liter the countryside with 20 different brands of super chargers when you could just have one that works for everything.
Another good one!
Your little girl is the cutest I have seen. That’s daddies girl…lol
thank you!
Book an optician appointment.
@@honesty_-no9he why are you so horrible. This little girl has a very cute face, even if you do not agree she is a little girl and as a grown up you need to lighten up. Peace.
That aerial footage was awesome. Are you using a DJI?
Yes, DJI mini pro3
Talked to a showroom guy and they say they are moving to NACS next year
Great video, as usual!
🍩HAPPY🍩BIRTHDAY🍩 ...to your lil girl!
It's always AWES😎ME seeing your lil ones in a video! [HUGZ] for them!
Thank you so much!!
A 2 sided spade connector would be far more compact than either. It could be so compact that you could hide the port very easily on a car, even seemingly without a door. If they are going to change it's better to get it right. The Tesla US connector is not particularly optimized. It's just the the combo ball sack design is particularly clumsy.
is that matte white?
Does anyone know if Tesla required Ford and GM to relocate their charging ports as a part of the deal
Happy birthday cute little girl 🎂🎂🎂
pretty cool!
Watch the idle fees on the Rivian chargers they are horrendous!
People conflate NACS with Superchargers. Tesla has to give permission to car companies to use Superchargers, even if they have a native NACS chargeport.
Are Tesla owners getting access to their network like they do to ours?
I don’t think Tesla SCs are reliable because they’re Tesla SCs. They’re reliable because they’ve literally only ever needed to charge two vehicles (3Y, SX). When it comes to the myriad hardware/software that 3rd party providers have been tasked with working for since day one, we’ll see how well they fare. On the few MagicDock stations there have already been issues with non-Teslas. It’s a lot easier when everything is vertically integrated. We even see this with RAN, about which I’ve heard no complaints.
One week later Rivian announces it is going to be on Tesla network.
Breaking News! Rivian accepted NACS!!
I would like to see EV manufacturer switchover to TESLA PLUG
Plus I don’t think Tesla has plans for 800v charging infrastructure so not sure how that helps Rivian in the future.
interesting point
The Cybertruck is confirmed to be 1000v and production is starting...
The Rivian is what I wanted the Tesla truck to be... with Tesla charging
what size yakima tank is that??
Rivian can team with evgo etc
"We're goi g to be awhile because all of oir favorite restaurants are here"
I guess that means they will eat at all of them???
CCS is the Betamax of charging. It’s days are numbered.
Who is Rivian?
"You sound like a Karen" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
She’s hilarious
It's nice car
