  • Pa Mac demonstrates how to install a wood shingle roof on his new log chicken house. Using old-fashioned tools and simple raw materials, this old time, self-sufficient, and sustainable skill can be practiced by young and old alike on the small farm, and especially by those who enjoy raising chickens. This is episode #20 of The Farm Hand's Companion Show.
    Be sure and subscribe to the Farm Hand's Companion channel to keep up with the progress as Pa Mac takes an undeveloped piece of property and turns it into a small subsistence farm. Watch for new episodes as often as Pa Mac can crank 'em out and still run a small farm. (As long as he's alive and kicking, he's most assuredly farming and filming!)

    So I guess we forget about all the SSB guidelines, exposed nails and cracks in shingle are allowing leaks, the nails should not be more the an 1'' to 1 1/2'' above the exposure level, keyways need a space between and the part on top keyways should Never align with keyways below, leaks for sure.

    • @farmhandscompanion
      @farmhandscompanion  4 місяці тому

      Depends on where you live, Richard.
      Red and white oak if you have access to straight grained, very large trees. If you don't, very large pines. Cedars and cypress are other options.
