Glad to see you put a hard hat on to cut the big oak, now if you would wear some chaps and hearing protection I'd feel a lot better. Great video, thank you... be safe!
Yes! A new FHC episode, just what my morning needed! :) Thanks for the update, the chuckles, the inspiration, and of course the old-timey wisdom. Always a pleasure to watch!
That was great , clearly explained and easy to watch . Can't get better , only a few differences on this side of the puddle , all good . Great video 👍🇬🇧
Greetings! I'm so glad to have found your video. It was informative and entertaining to say the least. Thanks for sharing your artwork and making me smile. 👍🇨🇦
I love it. Fix'n to go cut up some red oak firewood. There are some large logs in it that I wanted to do this with. You've definitely nailed my idea home. Thank you.
Ah! Finally another video! I saw it and jump right on. I love your videos! You make learning new things or new ways to do things fun! Best way to teach. Bravo!!!
Just came across your video and I absolutely loved it. Not only did I learn something, I also had a lot of good chuckles. I did subscribe because want to learn more. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and skills with the people who are interested in sharing your passion. Cheers.
"And the only thing I treated it with (referring to the roof) is love and respect." Love this statement...today too many contemporary mega, giga, things...too much conventionally oriented mindsets. 😊
Our farm had the first lumber mill in Walker co. We still have a small tank that's called the shingle mill tank. That being said.... I've never been so thankful for tin as while watching this video. Even so, Ive always wondered and now I know. Thank you so much for sharing so we could all learn the how.
@@farmhandscompanion my favorite show was cutting lumber. And it hooked me on your show. Thanks a lot it inspired me. Got my stuff back out an off to the woods I went.
This video just made my day. I wish you could publish a new one weekly but I'll take what I can get LOL. One of these days I just gotta get down to Cado and visit y'all. Regards and thanks, Frank
Yes, everything will have to wait-- a Pa Mac video! Lol... Sweet relief that that dead oak is down and no one got hurt, well done Pa Mac! Can't wait to see the chicken coop finished!
Absolutely love this channel of yours pa Mac, kind of lifestyle I would have loved to have had from birth but the gods had different ideas for me. Keep safe and keep making these wonderful videos please. Greetings from 🇬🇧
I'm like a 5 year old on Christmas morning when I see that a new FHC video is up and ready to view. As always awesome info with some good wholesome humor. Thanks for the effort to share your knowledge!! You are the man!!
I get thrilled to see a new episode within a week or two and this was one , WOOT, WOOT Another tremendous episode. Hope the Caddo Mercantile business is booming ! Cheers, Pa Mac
I am re-watching your video for the umpteenth time. It is a lot more difficult than it looks. I could not imagine doing this type of roofing for a large building. Though I do believe once I get my little shed done, I will have it down. Hopefully my grandkids will be the one redoing the roof. 😂
Well done! These videos give me such inspiration! I'd love to be able to do half the things you do!! And congratulations on felling your largest tree! God bless! Take care!
Awesome, a new video!! I found your channel just this week looking for barn builds and was hook immediately. I'm currently building a pole barn/blacksmith shop with board and batten siding and have really enjoyed your videos.
Beautiful! How do the shingles hold up only being nailed at the top like that? Seems like the wind would get under them and loosen them up? (I don't know anything about shake roofs :) )
I am so excited you made a new video, you’re my favorite UA-cam channel hands down. Love it. I talk entirely too much on my channel and you talk entirely not enough on yours. Lol 😆 Happy trails and thank you for making another video. Luke
Was this one of the longest duration of time between start & finished video? A few seasons came & went it seems... great video! Gives a sense of time to compare too.
Ever heard that if you split your shingles on the wrong moon they will curl up? Old guy I trusted growing up swore this but I never believed it, he also wouldn’t cut his hair except on specific moon phases though, always seemed silly to me but this guy was amazing.
I'm really appreciate this video, I've been wondering how to make a shake roof for a long time, I only got one question, will water ever seep through the roof and leak? Because one time I made a roof out of plywood in it did that a little bit, I'm just concerned about that because I'm thinking about doing this on the house I'm building, and of course I don't want my roof to leak.
Hey Teddy, if the shake roof is well installed with well-made shakes, it won't leak any more than any other type of roof that's well installed with good materials. But before you put 'em on your house, if I were you, I'd gain some experience roofing a smaller structure (shed, smokehouse) with 'em and then check the quality of your work before you tackle something as large as a house you're gonna be livin' in. And also keep in mind, unless you have modern decking and roofing felt, etc. underneath 'em, they by no means are gonna be air-tight like a modern home. If you install 'em the traditional way, your comfort level is gonna be "traditional", if you know what I mean.
Besides Pa Mac just being generally awesome I'd like to say thank you to the commenters on his channel. There is way more positive comments on here than the UA-cam know-it-alls.
Can anyone tell me the name of the song that begins this beginning? I've had it stuck in my head forever because of pa mac's vids, but I can't find the orginal! I love this version, by the way. Thanks.
Depends on where you live, Richard. Red and white oak if you have access to straight grained, very large trees. If you don't, very large pines. Cedars and cypress are other options.

So I suppose knowin’ the music’s all from homemade instruments wouldn’t make you feel better about the music? farmhandscompanion.com/the-fhc-show/music-of-farm-hands-companion/
So I guess we forget about all the SSB guidelines, exposed nails and cracks in shingle are allowing leaks, the nails should not be more the an 1'' to 1 1/2'' above the exposure level, keyways need a space between and the part on top keyways should Never align with keyways below, leaks for sure.
It seems that you're building a chicken retirement home, as those chickens will be too old to lay any eggs by the time you're finished with it LOL!!! Just kidding. I love your videos.

How dome you don't put a notch or "calf" in the base of the tree when cutting it down. It aids in the felling.
