Old-fashioned Doors and Horseshoe Hinges - The FHC Show, ep 24
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- In episode 24 of The Farm Hand's Companion Show, Pa Mac shows how to build and install old-fashioned wood doors for farm and homestead outbuildings. He also demonstrates how to make lumber for the door and door jambs without a sawmill, by splitting up a couple of logs with handtools, as well as constructing a simple wooden door latch. Then Pa Mac fires up his old coal blacksmith forge and turns regular old horseshoes into rustic hinges for his log chicken house door.
Be sure and subscribe to the Farm Hand's Companion channel to keep up with the progress as Pa Mac takes an undeveloped piece of property and turns it into a small subsistence farm. Watch for new episodes as often as Pa Mac can crank 'em out and still run a small farm. (As long as he's alive and kicking, he's most assuredly farming and filming!)
Also visit www.farmhandsco... to find articles, posts, photographs, and encouragement for today's self-sufficient farm, homestead, or permaculture lifestyle. (And be sure to check out the General Store for Pa Mac's books or DVDs at www.farmhandsco...)

Pa Mac, I appreciate you showing that you don’t to be a blacksmith to make this product.
I swear I think I've been watching this chicken house series for the last 20 years. This one showed up a little late in my recommended list. But they always show up, and that's what counts.
Feels like I've been buildin' it for 20 years, believe me.
Thank you for watchin', D.W.
"It doesn't have to be perfect... It just has to be." Very wise words. Thanks, as always, for sharing your content with us all.
Paw Mac. Thank you for the horse shoe part of your video. I have seen a set of hinges like the ones you made in the Smokies. Thanks for showing they were made!! REX.
I love your horse shoe hinges. Thanks for all your videos.
You have a way of bringing back the old ways.... Great Vid
Another great lesson in how to do things right . That mobile forge is a beauty , must see about that , swinging door . 👍🇬🇧
I love those hinges and that forge 👍😁👍

That is a great idea for old horse shoes.
Glad to see your working.😃
This Friday just got better! Its been far to long!!
Hate to say it but I just discovered this channel a few days ago. This guy is awesome. His videos are informative, yet extremely entertaining, and inspirational.
Love the hinges.👍
I so enjoy living vicariously with you. I watch these videos really hard if it helps you at all.
It does, and I appreciate you

Thanks for watching, Bobby
🏆🏆🏆 Excellent! Love those hinges 💖 I have a small forge very similar to that. Handy, transportable when needed.
The blooper at the end, so relatable. It looked like it might have hurt a bit.
Don't know how I've missed this vid, fabulous of course 👍
All the best, from Australia
🇭🇲🦘🦘🙏🦘🦘🇭🇲

I appreciate you watchin', Kevin
Love your videos
Epic success.
you need to do a "how to restore or setup an old forge" video. another great one! THANK YOU! :)
Such a great chanel! You manage to be tremendously educational while being homey and hilarious. I can remember a time when TV was like this. These are lessons I think we all need to rediscover.
Absolutely amazing work. As always. I’m so glad you take the time to document these old time ways of doing things. Be blessed brother. ~Nanny~
Thank you very much, Nanny (that's what we called my grandma-Pa Mac's wife)
Thank you, thank you. I have needed a Farm Hands Companion fix for months now.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!! (ahem) may i suggest kindly and all humbly that would be a wonderful thing to have more of you on the youtubes? thank you so much for what you do. BEST THING ON UA-cam!

At least 2020 has so many of your videos to enjoy, thankyou.
All days a new Farmhandscompanion comes on, this day we pack up all our stuff to leave the north and head south . Goodbye New England hello south !
Ps
I love those hinges and that forge 👍😁👍
Speaking as a Southerner...Welcome Home❤
From someone who lives in South Carolina, welcome to the south.
Good luck to you ...
Joel, where did you move to? And do you have a wife you had to talk into it? Lol. I am originally from SW Missouri. I've been living in South Dakota far too long. Convincing the wife it's time to move is not going well for me!
Welcome home, Joel
Brilliant!
I really dig the horseshoe hinges you should market them lol
You're my hero haha
Bravo!
Wow, amazing forge! They don't make those anymore... Awesome videos! You are the real life version of "Back to basics"!
Love it! Ha ha ha...the hound at the end, "huh?...what was that?--"😂
I always enjoy your content because it reminds me of my grandfather. He would have loved your videos. Thank you for giving me a piece of him everytime I watch.
You're so very welcome, Ernez
Yeah...happy to see you.
Hello from the mtns of eastern oregon.
Hello there, MuTe!
Very cool..blessings
Thank you, Little Jordan Farm
My old forge is exactly like the one you were using. Plus the old railroad vice I inherited from my father is very similar but much bigger than the one you were using in the video.
Absolutely loved the blacksmithing, it add “ character” to the coop, not that it was at all lacking!
The dog in the final bit stole the show! Hilarious!
your the best, ty
It just needs to be. So true.
Very nice
Great work. I am blessed and encouraged by your projects, and very happy that you take the time to document your work with video. Thank you! :)
I had to delay doing the dishes to watch this. Beautiful in its simplicity. And I love your sense of humor 🙂
wonderful
Great job 👍. Good tips. Thanks..... hello from Kentucky mountains
Hello Kentucky! I'm in Tennessee but I lived my first 30 years in KY😊
Ya era hora de ver otro video, gracias, me ha gustado mucho😉😉
New subscriber here. I really watching the whole video. Especially you making the hinges.
Thanks for subscribing, Gary
I was thinking about your videos the other day and was hoping you would be putting out another one soon. You didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed watching you turn those horse shoes into hinges. They turned out fantastic. The chicken coop looks just like you stepped back into time. It is truly a work of art.
Thank you for watchin', Jennifer
Nice !
Thank you for the great video!
Better than my apartment.
Good to see you back. From an English man in Eire.
Hey, there newkekarmy reee!
The dog's reaction to you falling is hilarious!
Perfect :o)
What a way to start my homestead day, coffee and farmhand video.
I smiled all the way through that! One thing you forgot, all that good clean and stress free living you will gain a few pounds, who is going to train the chickens to bring out the eggs when the door is to small?
Yep, you got my vote, good clean fun!
Good to see you back
Well this made my day. Glad to have you back Mr. Mac
Thank you, K. D.
I love your channel. I’ve watched every video twice at least. Why do I get the feeling shaking your hand would feel like 80 grit sand paper? 😉
Thanks for this video. It was great to see you again.
That is beautiful. Good idea with the horseshoes
So glad to see you making videos again!
I never stopped, T Marcus. I'm just slow. Thank you for watchin!
Charming horseshoe hinges, never seen those before.
when I sleep in the evening , when I wake up in the morning, I watch you every moment . you do great things, uncle . we are waiting for the continuation of these videos👌😃
Thank you for watchin', Emre. I appreciate it so much
Super
That was great! I loved the door, especially the hinges, and the lock was clever. When you fell in, there at the end, the dog raised his head because you startled him, but he didn't go check on you. I think he might of seen that kinda thing before.😊
He's probably seen more than I'm comfortable sharin' about. Thank you for watchin', Deborah!
@@farmhandscompanion You're welcome😊
I’m glad to see you are still making videos. Seeing how UA-cam has stopped notifying me of any videos from your UA-cam page.
Been waiting for this for a long time! Somebody give this man a ton of money to make a show!
A fan from Kenya here, i really enjoy watching your videos sir.
Great to see another video. Can't wait for chickens. Nice looking swine as well!
I just love your videos It makes me think of my ancestors and how they would have "had" to homestead. I knew of old leather shoe soles as hinges but old horseshoes last much longer. Please keep adding more videos you are resurrecting lost art forms.
I sure will, A'Bama Gardener
Wonderful,, what a nice way to spend some time. Thanks for sharing.
I was just looking at your channel yesterday thinkin is was getting about that time for another video (edit: I commented about splitting pine logs 😂)
Thanks for always watching and commenting on the show, Lance
@@farmhandscompanion thank you for making the videos. I know how much goes into them. Your an inspiration to the community! God bless.
I expected that fall...I was waiting for that fall...in a wicked sort of way I WANTED that fall! I'm glad that I stuck around until after the advertisements at the end. Great stuff!
Don't be disappointed if the door starts to hang after a while. Equipping it with a cross brace from bottom hinge to top stop helps to avoid this.
nice chicken house
Love watching your videos. 👍👍🇺🇸🔨🪓😁📺
Thank you, Annie
Hurrah!
Good to see you back!
I hope that your other projects are going well, too.
Despite this current nonsense!
Very best wishes from England,
Granpa Quaker John
Thank you for another great video really enjoyed it take care love you
At the end the dog's like "wha? oh, nothin' "
Seems like you woke up pup at the end there...lol
The horse shoe hinges are a great idea. Might be cooler than the wooden hinge on barn wood builders. I still say your funnier than the three stooges.
Oh yes. Ive been waiting for a new video! As allways great amounts of wisdom and fun. Thank you for that.
Loved it!.....everyone needs to wait for the end. Cracked me up!! :o)
Been checking for a video for a couple weeks thinking its about time....go on a short trip....get back...and BAM there it is. Great ending to a great day! How long did you dry those pine boards to get that much color change? Can't tell you how much I enjoy watching your videos. It's like a time machine and just awesome!!
I appreciate you as always, Happilyretiredmark!
Wow. That was amazing.
My grandfather in the 1920's would gather together enough wood to build a shack with three rooms with a couple of windows an old door the roof was tar paper as well as the siding no insulation no plumbing. These were built in a wooded area so it didn't matter if he owned the land or not just collect the rent. By the 1960s he did upgrade to building some in some small towns and did buy the lot and made indoor plumbing but still a tar paper shack none the less
I've been wondering about you and your family hoping that you're all ok. Once again a great job!
Yes, we're all doin' fine. Thank you for watchin', Ken
Glad to see your doing well sir and thanks for the knowledge God Bless you and yours
Thanks, Alivs Luck. You too!
That’ll wurk!! Thanks for a very entertaining and practical job well done 👍👍. Keep up the good work and videos and thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks, will do.
Great video! I always enjoy these as it's good to see the older techniques. I love it when I manage to build something using only the stuff on hand by re-purposing items from scraps.
Only wish that the pop up ads wouldn't keep covering up your captions.
There videos are aam mazing. I love them and I love you annd your vision. But, for the ladies out here, there should be some videos of your wife too. I would love to see how she works aswell
Really enjoyed that, thank you for your videos, I look forward to each one, God bless you
Thank you for watchin', Kelly
I have been watching and enjoying your progress on the chicken coop build. Would you mind sharing how long it has actually taken you to build iit? I know there is a lot of work in riving your own boards and shingles. Please keep the videos coming.
Hey! Love your channel. If you are wondering about the horizontal stripes in the video from your camera - It's called interlacing, and can be removed before editing.
