I love your videos as well as my Olympus cameras in every way! I have never had so much personal enjoyment and connection with any other camera before, and I have been on the road with many cameras in my last forty years... Thank you so much for your pation and enthusiasm and certainly for your wonderful photographs. I'm looking forward to every new episode!

I loved your comment about the camera taking you back to when you first fell in love with photography, that was my experience too. I switched to Olympus from Canon FF around 4 years ago and it completely reinvigorated my photography. This is not to denigrate any other brand, ultimately it's finding the one that works best for you (and I genuinely believe in this day and age there's no such thing as a bad camera), but the Olympus/OM-System just suited me to a tee.
    Love the vlog too.

Can feel your excitement Henry, glad the new camera working for you. I have a Z7ii but back up for hikes is Z50 which at first I doubted could give the quality I wanted, but the more I go out with it and get to know it the more amazed I am and it is so lightweight. Brings back the enjoyment

Oh man watching this video and the landscape you are walking thru with all the greens and water and trees. This is an infrared shooters paradise. Just recently got a em5 mark ii ifull spectrum and it is so nice and never go out without it now with a couple of IR filters. Plus you can shoot a lot of stuff in the middle of the day when the lighting for normal color photography isn’t the best. It would definitely look into IR. It’s just fun

Congrats on new camera and thank you for the wonderfull adventure.
The first 2 photos i do like the first one a wee bit more, focal distance brings out more detail, however the lighting on the right side and reflection of second image seemed to give a scale of the scene.
To answer Your question at 28 min, i have used my phone (Nigel gave me idea) usually on more intimate scenes, it seems to help “focus” on scene/subj.

Really nice images Henry. I remember going back to a Fuji bridge camera from a DSLR around 2010. The reason for doing so was that I'd just got a new dog and couldn't handle all the heavy gear as well. I found myself automatically 'helping' the bridge camera do what a DSLR would have wanted and as a result stopped worrying about whether or not it could take the shot. Meanwhile the dog got taken to new places and so did the much lighter weight camera. I didn't give up on DSLRs as their image quality always had a higher potential, and with a certain lens the filters could be shared. New cameras get you out and about more and that's probably the best reason to get one.

Great video Henry, I what I found as I get older is I like to travel light. I do own a dslr with several lens and tripod but recently I discovered the Panasonic Lumix fz300 Bridge camera. The camera is super light, 25-600mm, shoots raw, 4k video and 4k photo burst up 30fps, the down side is it is only 12mg file size.

I last visited the Cairngorms back in the late 90's, when I was working at various whisky distilleries by day, and cycling the Speyside Way in the evening and at the weekend. I recorded my adventures on a brand-new Kodak DC 215, a mighty 1Mb beast! I published the photos on my long-since-extinct cycling website and, TBH, the photos looked pretty good. Would love to make a return trip with more modern camera gear (and a modern, lightweight bike) but, alas, life seems to forever get in the way. It was great to re-live those old days through your eyes - another fantastic video. Well done!

Henry, enjoyed your video as usual ( in Aussie a bloody ripper ) but forget the stills for a moment your video work is excellent and the colours from the landscape pop. I think image stabilisation is the way of the future in photography, anything to make you leave gear at home to capture low light situations is a bonus & yes enjoy the moment it's all good.

Interesting to hear your thoughts regarding the new camera: I tend to agree that the OM products are a delight to use. They always seem to have capabilities that are easy to access, which points to a depth of thought behind the system. I never really felt comfortable with my Fujifilm, and though I still have my RX-10, digging into its menus is excruciating. Yet all have been designed to be _used_. So in all likelihood, it's probably just the way my mind works that sees me comfortable with OMS. The same goes for processing software - I'm enjoying LrC, but it doesn't mean other applications are inadequate in any way. One thing I found just a few days ago, the OM high-res mode can be used to smooth water as if you were using an ND filter, and you gain a bit more dynamic range (according to the experts). I had a really good fiddle with that, and I think I got some promising results. I needed to apply a bit more thought to what I was doing, but it was just an experiment.

Henry, I know people are going to think I'm silly for feeling this way, but I have a special place in my heart for my Nikon D5100. I know there are cameras with a lot more mega pixels, that focus faster, and take better low light pictures; but I love my old D5100. I keep looking at D5300s and D7100s but I just like my old camera. I've even considered replacing my D5100 with a D610. But every time I go to pull the trigger I change my mind. I wind up buying a lens, or some other piece of equipment that goes with my Nikon. This morning I called KEH and ordered a Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 G ED IF Autofocus APS-C Lens to replace a Sigma lens that is about to die. I thought about getting a 50mm prime lens, but why bother when I'm happy with my crop sensor body. I guess when my old girl finally gives up and stops doing the job I'll look into getting something that has a few more bells and whistles. But in the mean time my D5100 and I are going to keep taking photos.

The feeling you have with your new camera is similar to what I had when I had an IR converted Nikon D50... it wasn't the kind of IR that was totally B&W but let in a small amount of green once the red and blue channels were swapped in post processing. Almost point and shoot instant masterpieces!!! I mistakenly sold it on for a newer IR converted Nikon D5300 but there is something about the CMOS sensor and IR that didn't quite work for me (although having live view IR was useful) , and the 5300 broke on me recently so I now have a CCD Nikon D80 IR camera and the type of IR is suited better to B&W in camera conversion so it forces me to think a bit harder about the composition... really cheap to get hold of and fun to use.

I've had a few cameras I've enjoyed using for no good logical reason, they just felt right. Mamiya C220 TLR and Fuji ST901 film cameras. And my Olympus EM5ii, which I traded in for an EM1ii which is a "better" camera in every way, but not as much fun! But I used to take my Mamiya out shooting even when I didn't have any film in it, just for the pleasure of framing a shot and clicking the shutter. Absolutely absurd, but really satisfying.
BTW I much prefer the Braemar side of the 'Gorms. The rivers are bigger, the waterfalls higher and the forests more varied. And the network of paths around Mar lodge easily rivals the Aviemore side.

I have to admit the one camera I really love using is my Olympus OM-1 35mm slr. Yep, tis a 1970's film camera and it's a joy to use. I wanted one when I was a kid in the 70's and swore I would own one some day. That day came a few years back and I am not disappointed, it was truly worth the wait. I don't use the built in light meter as I haven't had a battery in it for ages and it's fine, it's a fully mechanical camera. I have an old Gossen Trisix selenium cell light meter that is still accurate half a century after being made and it is definietly a great experience. There's a lot to be said for having a "Batteries Not Included" day out. Just me, my OM-1 and a couple of Zuiko lenses. Bliss!

My favourite ever camera was a Fuji bridge camera, went from that to Sony and just couldn’t get on with it at all so traded it in and have gone back to Fuji with the X-T5. Early days as not used it much but think it’s going to be fun again. It’s brilliant (and inspirational) to see a pro photographer using what would be classed by some as a non pro camera and getting such enjoyment and great results from it 👍

Hi Henry. Amazing video as always I’ve been subscribed for years but first time commenting. I’d love a video solely on tripod versus image stabilisation - with a pixel peep comparison on the results :) I often do hikes/wild camps and carrying a tripod is so painful but I love shooting sunrise/sunset and my Fuji system is lightweight but not when you include a 1.5Kg tripod.. If this camera can shoot comfortably at say 2 seconds handheld and you want a light set up may I ask why you still bring a tripod?

It is good to hear you talking about the composition and light long before you even touch the camera. I have often walked past a scene that I thought would be good, gone on further and then came back, only to find the light gone.
Technically IBIS is very good. I have had the E-M5ii for many years with its "4.5 stops", which is good but its effectiveness reduces with the length of the lens.
The performance of a super-zoom is compromised by that which makes it a super-zoom, its extreme zoom range. They try hard but cannot be good at all focal lengths. The 12-200 is a 16x super-zoom. The 12-200 is often compared to the Panasonic 14-140 10x travel lens (which does punch way above its weight) but a more reasonable comparison is the often forgotten Panasonic 45-200ii f/4-5.6 4x zoom. The mark 1 dates from 2008, one of the first MFT lenses and not much loved due to the primitive Mega-OIS. The mark 2 with Power-OIS sorted it out but you will find both rather cheaply on the used market. The E-M5ii handles the mark 1 rather better than a Lumix back does. With the mark 2, no change on an Olympus back but a different animal on a Lumix.
For long shots, Olympus do have a soft-shutter function.

Hi Henry! Another great video. It's a lovely area there, I know it well.
Great to see your transition to mft. I've always enjoyed your videos, irrespective of what camera you were using (the choice of camera is far from the most important element of photography!) but as a mft user for many years I can relate even more to your videos now. There have been some failures of the E-M5iii plastic baseplate and the OM-5 is the same design. Be very careful using the camera with a tripod and especially with the Peak Design attachment. Nothing wrong with the PD clip, it is the movement of the camera on the strap attachment in combination with the camera design that can fatigue the plastic at the tripod mount. The tripod mount is very weak compared to the E-M1 versions and even to the E-M5ii predecessor.

What a treat! Not only got another great video from you, but also got a happy trip down memory lane. Back in November 2019 we were staying in Avirmore for a few days, and one morning woke up to thick fog and I knew Craigellachie was where we needed to go. I took one of my favourite photos from Scotland around the spot you were by at 21:50. We then went to the top of the crag and were treated to a cloud inversion. For a couple of people from the sub-tropical Gold Coast the entire day was such a treat! Thanks for a great video Henry, and I second your plug for Aviemore and it's pubs, and the Cairngorms in general. We also stayed in Braemar and that was also wonderful, though much smaller.

Another very enjoyable outdoor video. Thanks.
You talked a lot about this woodland having autumn colors, but imagine it by a very misty day!

🇨🇦/🇺🇸... Hey there, Henry! Can you tell us what brand/model of strap mount that you are attaching your camera to your backpack strap, please? In my 6 decades I've only ever used neck/shoulder straps but now my neck and shoulder pain is telling me to get with the times!!! 😂 Cheers, bro!

Henry I've always had pro cameras and gear....BUT just lately with the disgusting prices of new gear...I've found myself going backwards and smaller!! I still have a Z5, but about to purchase a Sony RX100 and maybe the RX10IV for the light, small 600mm lens. Even the 1 inch sensors are great nowadays! Even indoors at ISO6400. As we get older and look back at old photos....Image quality really hasn't come on much in 10 years. And for screen use and even printing up to A2, the gear is irrelevant with all today's technology. Smaller, lighter gear is king now.

Yesterday I picked up my OM-5 model from 2015. It’s been sitting in my den all these years. I went bananas over how much fun it is. More simple than the latest gear, it was sheer joy to fool around with its basic features. A great camera. Many times I wonder if people fully use a camera’s capabilities before they jump to a newer model just because it is new.

Fantastic choice pal. I have the OM-5, em1 mk3, and the OM-1 the speed of the OM-5 and IbIS is Fantastic and video is really good the 12-100mm is always on my OM-5 or em1mk3 whichever I take out on the day. I have the 100-400mm on the Om1 unless I am doing landscape the the 12-100mm goes on the om1. The 12-100mm is an absolute Fantastic lens so versatile and exceptional reach. I've won a few competitions with it. Enjoy mate

I love the OM5. When I got mine, I literally just received it, and headed off on a trip to Japan. Best travel camera as far as I am concerned. Only had the 12-45mm F4 PRO lens with me though, but it was perfect for a lightweight kit. I am now retired but one of my prior consultancy places was with MacDonald Hotels, and I was supposed to visit Avemore through them, but my trip got cancelled. Seeing your video, I wish I was able to go now. Sounds like I need a little trip from London to Scotland,

Many thanks for sharing this with us Henry. It never ceases to amaze me just how stunning your photos are. Can I ask how the OM-5 & 12-200 F4 lens worked as a combination? Take care, stay safe and keep adventuring.

I thought I was a Nikon for life user, film SLRs and APSC digital SLRs until age and health issues made me realise in 2016 I had to lighten the load. So these days my landscape kit is an Olympus E-M1 ii with 14-150mm and 9-18mm lenses. I rarely take a tripod these days too. No regrets.

Nice Henri, loved the long shots of the trees and reflections. You should post them upside down once in a while to keep your audience guessing what's wrong ;-)
I recently switched from Canon 6D Mk II to Sony A7R4. Lost some weight and size, gained dynamic range, low-light performance, megapixels, frames per second and I can use 3rd party lenses compared to Canon RF system.

Beautiful images, nice to see a beautiful woodland again! Love seeing the beginning of the fall colors. I was in Germany the last week, and fall was really starting off there already. The camera seems like a great one, did you sell the Z7? I'm sorry, you probably told us in the 3 hour video and I will definitely watch it (I'm about an hour in already), but I just haven't had the time to finish watching it.

I started out photography with a Nikon D7200, which is funny, because I remember, you had the same camera when I started following the channel. But I could just never really get to love using that camera. It was a brilliant piece of gear, but not intuitive at all for me. Then a couple years later I got myself a Fujifilm X-H1.. and it just got glued to my hand. It taught me to adore the process of taking an image. There's something about these retrostyled cameras that's different. Great video!

The enjoyment comes from my lens’, I use a Canon EOS R, but my lens’ are made by Lensbaby… They are amazing…. They are built for the creatives… LOL They are not what a landscape photographer carries, not that they can’t be used for landscape photography but more for the street, portraits, etc…. And yes, I know the feeling of being excited when you view the back of your camera and it blows your mind from seeing the end result of a simple photo.

I ditched Canon my DSLR for the mark 1 em-5 back in 2012 and bought a panasonic 45-175 at the time to pair with the 12-50 kit zoom. The system being so small and lightweight was the main reason. I have knackerd shoulders, probably from lugging backpacks all over the shop with too much weight.
I now use the em5 mark iii and love it for much the same reasons you mentioned. There's just something pleasing about it. I'm in Scotland with it right now, up near the isle of Skye. Now paired with the 12-45f4 and pan leica 8-18mm along with the still evergreen 45-175 for the most part.
I have a, some would say, superior Panasonic G9 too, but that stayed home this time. Lovely in the hand as it is, its heavy and not really what m43 is about for me. Having that camera always brought me confusion. I know it's good and probably technically superior in many ways, but shooting with the em5 series is fun and i always feel more happy and content when using them. I had to force myself to leave it behind for my latest trip because i didnt want to spend half an hour trying to decide which camera to take each day and im so glad i did. My backup is the Em5.3s predecessor the mark ii. Still a fab camera, but dont feel guilty leaving it behind in the car as a backup if the worst should happen to my current cam.
Hope you love your Om5 as much as i do its predecessors. A word of caution, my em5 body type is the same polycarbonate as yours, i believe. There were numerous reports of tripod mount failures on my version by people using peak design style clips. I think this was because the mounting point was/is weak in that area when carried that way. I dont know if its still true for the newer OM5 model though.
I picked up a small and light arca swiss grip for mine, which is on the camera all the time and spreads the load. Dont know if it would work in the Peak design clip you have though.
Liked the first of the two birch tree shots, the one before the sunlight hit.

some superb photos there Henry We can see we're watching a skilled practicioner of the art And, this video is one in the eye for all of those zealots who say the only way to go is full frame We've see you do it a few times, proving you can get perfect results with ANY sensor size 35mm APSC or M4/3 It's about your skills not your camera or sensor size To borrow from Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, Myth BUSTED!

Hi Henry & hello from Oz, sadly I'm feeling the opposite to what you describe Henry, I'm tired of carrying around my Canon & it's heavy lenses etc etc etc.
I'm very close to & looking forward to making the change to the Om system or the new Lumix G9 mk II, then hopefully my enthusiasm will be restored.
Watching videos from you & William Patino have certainly inspired me to improve my photography.
    Cheers & Thankyou.

I sold all of my Canon full frame gear 18 months ago and I invested in Olympus and a mixture of Olympus and Panasonic lenses. I did it to reduce the weight and bulk l carried. As a person with mobility and health issues and it is the best move I have made. I still get awards in international exhibitions and sell prints. The quality is great and the EM1 mark 3 and EM5 mark 3 are feature filled and convenient and unobtrusive in busy areas. Lovely images as always and so much inspiration and enthusiasm.

I agree a camera is a personal item. We all agree that it’s the photographer, not the camera. But, if I had one camera and one lens, I love the Nikon Z7 with the 24-120 lens. A light weight package for simple hiking.
