"That gaff", is actually a turbine house! It provides power for High Hackett about 1k away up the hill! Great video of an area I know well, Dad and my Grandparents lived just up the hill at Oxen Fell. Cheers Alistair 👍
I feel your recent videos Henry have a calm maturity about them, you don't need to use music to build emotion when sharing your photographs and the extended format is very enjoyable as well. Excellent work .
Hi Henry, another grand day out and thanks for sharing. As one that tends to get a bit stuck having decided what I would want to shoot in advance, I adopted the idea of "shoot what's there". Its so much more rewarding using the idea of the esteemed philospopher, one Forrest Gump. .... ( photography ) Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. So I just take photos of things l like the look of. Its never going to be award winning, but I don't mind. My photography has improved no end since i started watching your channel.
As a regular view Henry, at the risk of rocking the boat, I think I enjoy your earlier clips more. I find the over use of the video camera on the stick can make an older viewer quite giddy. I prefer your piece to camera work without the movement. I also miss your tripod. Your tripod process provided the opportunity to slow down and plan a shot and also experiment with various settings…..without altering the camera position. This is a process that I now enjoy. I also used to enjoy the music background and the sharing of your camera settings. Not convinced about where your camera is carried. They are expensive pieces of equipment and I think the camera case still has a role. Thank you for your clips, we always learn something. (Including always having the polariser handy.) Keep up the good work. Mark….in Australia.
Love slaters bridge and cathedral cave, the caves have some abstract potential but other than that the composition is limited to what’s been done over and again, slaters bridge has so much potential and I definitely plan on a trip out in the next two weeks as autumn kicks in proper
Hi Henry, Great looking walk next time we are up in the lakes we will check it out, Skellwith bridge is a favourite of ours and all that area. Keep up the great work mate.
I’m currently in the Lake District for the first time (here for a week), so glad I decided to watch this video tonight, gives me inspiration for tomorrow… I Can’t believe I’ve never been to the Lake District before now, the opportunity’s, the diversity that this stunning part of the uk offers is on another level .
Oh my goodness.... your images are 19:15 and 32:16 are stunning. When the one of the leaves came up at 19:15, it actually made me exclaim..... "oh f...., that's a beauty" Great video as usual.👍👍
I've been to Colwith Force and Slater's Bridge a few times when staying in Chapel Stile, but never got over to Oxen Fell. That was a lovely walk and video, could have been a tv programme.
I feel for you. The missus and I went down to the Dolomites at the beginning of October, hoping to catch the autumn colours and everything was still hideously green.
@HenryTurner your reason for taking your camera might be different from us amateurs. You might have an area and subject in mind, where as I just take out my camera and take a picture as the inspiration takes me. Another inspiring video.
I would say your comments today Henry echo my own sentiments. If you only think golden hour / blue hour then you are limiting your opportunities to learn and missing out on the adventure too. Also going out with a mindset that ultimately doesn't relate to the conditions can have that negative effect on the mindset. I've been there in the past but now it's take it as it comes and again use the opportunity to learn from the experience
Lovely to re-live one of my favourite walks - TIP: Take a photo as you start to cross 'Slater's Bridge' and you will get the full meandering path in the distance.
Greetings from Calgary Alberta Canada. I enjoyed this video. I felt like I was walking along beside you. Thanks for this video, very enjoyable. And, you had some great photos as well.
Fantastic day to be out and about beautiful conditions to be out in !! some beautiful images to take with you as well !! Hope you have a great week ahead.
Do you ever (or would you consider if you don't) posting your routes? I am from the USA and planning a trip in March and then again in July. It would be so helpful to see one of your planned trips.
I absolutely love the opening pano. If all the fences in your videos could talk I'd be captivated for a lifetime I'm sure. As always, thank you for sharing!
I agree 100% about expectations. Trouble is, I still shoot myself in the foot (no pun intended). Especially if I'm in a nice location, all I can think is "...I HAVE to get a good shot!!! It'll be months before I'm in another nice spot, I HAVE to get good shot, HAVE to!" But at the time time I'm thinking, "I'm gonna blow it, I know already I'm gonna blow it -- I'm not good enough!" 😀 Talk about going out of one's way to sabotage one's self... LOL What a beautiful location and a stunningly nice walk. Enjoyed it!
I adore mountains, but this walk for me was so special with all the different aspects to it. I really enjoyed the scenery and as you said when Autumn kicks in it will be even more special. Thank you again for a great video and taking us along with you, cannot wait for your return to this walk and "hopefully very soon".
Crikey Henry! Talk about taking me to places (in your videos) that I'd never be able to get to in a month of Sundays! 😂😂This is where I really appreciate your efforts young man!
Wow Wow Wow !!!! What an incredible area. I so enjpyed the tips and watching your outing and the shots you obtained. Thanks so much for work and passion.
Absolutely bang on about restricting yourself to one type of shot, I do it all the and then get annoyed when I can’t see it. Best to keep open minded like you say 👍🏻 What lens have you on the Olympus? Bought myself a little OMD5 with a 14-42 lens as something u can just chuck in a bag all the time.
Thank you for the walk thru another lovely location. In relation to the autumnal colors, I read last year that the precipitation levels in spring and summer play into the chromatic levels of plant life changing.
Sun is lower in Autumn and Winter so pretty much any time of the day should be OK. In Summer you could bring along a body that has infrared conversion for those awkward times of the day when you least expect to get a great shot the IR might just save your bacon. Sometimes you need to think backwards with IR shots as the sun is better behind the subject for darker skies.
Seeing that bridge took me back a few years. Took some photos of it but really with the intention of doing a watercolour painting of it, rather than as a photo in its own right
Another great video Henry. I love my 7Dmkii, but on holiday in Lisbon I wish I had a similar lightweight camera to you. Due to luggage limitations I had to bring my little canon power shot that fits in my pocket. It's Jpeg only so a bit limiting. That said it still takes better photos than any phone. Then I can put them through Snapseed to make basic adjustments and post. I'm on the lookout for a used bridge camera of older used Olympus for travel.
Absolutely beautiful walk, stunning scenery and glorious woodlands at any time of the year. I do sometimes think our human interaction with the landscape creates brilliant photo opportunities, whether that's the slate mining or farming. I'd love you to do that same walk in a couple of weeks to see the difference.
Brilliant waterfall photos Henry as were the others on this walk. I was looking at the dry stone walls and pictured taking a few shots in monochrome of just the walls!! Think they would look amazing. Think you should return there again in a couple of weeks as the colours should be wonderful. All the very best. Graham
Your a better man than me to scramble down that steep bank to Colwith Force, I ve looked but been restrained before now! That’s a good circular walk from Elterwater as an alternative.
What a beautiful walk today. Thank you so much for sharing the journey with all of us. Thank you as well for sharing your insights. Cheers to many more to come :)
Hello Henry, loved your 2nd shot and the one of the tarn. Liked how you stayed low showing the grandeur of the fells. Let's see what it all looks like in autmnal colour. Safe travels chum!
Hi Henry, Greetings from Ardnamurchan, Your Lake District walks always bring to mind the many, many times I visited that wonderful area. I'm intrigued to know what you us as your video camera.
A beautiful walk, beautiful scenery and beautiful photographs...especially the first pano. Just a thought. When you do what I call a proper circular walk (that is to say from car door to car door) have you ever considered adding at the end of your video a very short section showing the route on an OS map and features such as car parks, pubs, tea rooms, tarns, quarries, etc? Cheers. Ken
I really enjoyed that walk you took us on, Henry. A beautiful part of the country and your photos were, as you say yourself, mint! There wasn't one I didn't like. I hope you are enjoying your new camera. Looking forward to being back there with you when autumn finally arrives.
Henry, another great video. Several quick questions, are you going to back to you Nikon camera? at the water falls area, would you ever consider using the drone to get shots? Finally, the camera you are using has some interesting features, what is your favorite one?
What a lovely area to walk through and nice photos you got from it too. I think peak autumn colour fools us at it tends to come all in one go in November and by then there are too few leaves on the branches. Maybe outside of Summer the midday sun isn't going to be too high and contrasty anyway?
Thanks for taking us along on your walk, some great shots. I do love the Lakes even though I only get there a few times per year. Up here in Scotland, Autumn has been about a month late, it is going to be into November before it peaks. As for Golden Hour, it is much overrated - I personally don't like it much, it feels unnatural, and everything has a yellow colour cast that isn't how the scene normally appears. The soft light is good but you can get that through most of the day in winter.
Thanks Henry for another great video. Im not mobile enough nowadays to do a hike like this, so its really nice to come along on your outing. Ive noticed that all of the images you took on this one were, to my eye, not really true representations of the day. It’s like you’re shooting in the middle of the day and then trying, through processing, to look like golden hour. Darkening and over saturating. I think that’s a mistake because the scenes in the video were beautiful as they were. I agree with you that midday shooting can give some great results but trying to make the pics look like it wasn’t midday is a mistake in my eyes. Thanks again for letting me tag along and sorry if I sound like a grumpy old git. 👍
I was staying nearby the falls this weekend and called there. My photo however has the twigs in the way as no way was I venturing where you did! My partner said she thinks you’re part mountain goat! 😂
So Henry, this is the third vid I’ve watched this week where you “ tubers “ have touched on middle of the day photography ( the other 2 being Tom and Mads ), my question is, do you lot ring each other up and collaborate to bombard us eager amateurs ??? 😁😁
Enjoyed the video as usual Henry. I thought you might have put your vlog camera away to concentrate walking down the steep slope towards the waterfall as it was really dodgy. Great image's of the waterfall. You definitely need to go back when autumn arrives. You captured some really nice image's on the way.
Love your videos. I have been watching for years. I have a non-photography question. Would you mind letting me know the make and model number of your hat? It is new this year and looks like it would be great in winter. Thank you very much!
Henry, your woodland photography is one of your major strengths as a photographer. You seem to see fantastic compositions better than most in that environment. One question, as the Olympus camera you have has built ND filtering capability, what would be the downside of just leaving an adjustable polarizer on your lens all the time?
The downside of just leaving a polarizer on the camera all the time would be the loss of at least a stop of light, which would be significant especially for Henry, as I don’t think the lens he is using is particularly fast. A polarizer also adds contrast, which is the primary reason for the device, but extra contrast might not be desirable for some scenes. It is for these two reasons I think most photographers only use a polarizer when indicated. It is also important to note that I don’t think Henry’s new camera has a built in ND filter. I believe the OM5 camera emulates the effect of an ND filter by using multiple exposures and combining them in camera. However, I am not 100% sure about the electronic ND filter thing, as I do not own an OM camera, so it is mostly speculation on my part.
You are correct about the nd effect, multiple exposures are put together to create one file. Its a really nice feature that works well. In addition you can incorporate a real nd filter to be even more creative. Its a real game changer when it comes to staying light and mobile
I thoroughly enjoyed the hike ha ha. I would like to hear more bout the OM5. I assume you didn't go Panasonic G9 because you have your other Olympus? Is there anything that you don't like about it? Why didn't you go for the OM1? Thanks again.
🇨🇦/🇺🇸... Hey Henry... question: Do you (or have you ever) market your images and make them available for commercial use on any stock photo sites? You MAY prefer not to use your best images that you sell prints and calendars from, but I think that there are landscape photographers that do and make a pretty penny doing so. Cheers, bro!
Amazing shots and vlog once again Henry, we have a small group that go out at least once a week doing Landscape and all other Genres of photography. There’s one guy called Kevin who we nicknamed the “fall guy” “Lee majors” might be a bit old for you. He loves waterfalls but we end up getting more shots of him falling than the waterfalls 😅😅😅. Look forward to your channel 👍🏻
We don't have too many fall colors here either yet, mostly just patches. Can't wait for everything to be so nicely colored again! In Germany (the Eifel), they had way more fall colors already 2 weeks ago. But even though you didn't have too many fall colors yet, I really enjoyed the video, it's so beautiful and peaceful there! You're braver than me with the wasps though, no way I would have done that 😅
The main reason for not getting out in the middle of the day is the number of people that get in the way of your shot. I visited Slaters bridge a couple of years ago, and could not get a photo because of the children playing in the water. Accept they have a right to do so but it means that as landscape photographers we need to get out earlier or later in the day.
Hi Henry. Been a subscriber of your channel for so long. I kind identify myself with you as I also like to be in the outdoors and photograph. I got myself a Z system which I've been building up but sometimes I find frustrating to go hiking and have to take my 2kg tripod along to take long exposures and I feel my motivation/creativity is affected. So my question is two questions in 1 and I'd appreciate if you have time to reply. Are you still happy with your move from the z7 to the om5? Or you'll keep both systems for the moment because of FF bigger sensor?
I must admit that going out any time of the day does not bother me, golden hour is a fantastic time of day, but it is not the be all and end all, as for the expectations of what I may have when going to a certain place, the cold truth is I have never had expectations, it is what it is when I get there
"That gaff", is actually a turbine house!
Thanks mate I appreciate that as I’m still experimenting with it all and enjoying it!
Here's the key, man: you're making vids anyone might keep watching regardless whether they are photography enthusiasts. Awesome, my friend. 😎
Hi Henry, another grand day out and thanks for sharing. As one that tends to get a bit stuck having decided what I would want to shoot in advance, I adopted the idea of "shoot what's there". Warching this in late August 27th 2024 and looking forward very much to Autumn 🍂 😀
Thank you for taking us along this beautiful land.... Do you ever shoot multiple images & create panoramas?
Special shout out to Henry for giving us one of his signature gate shots to open the video.
It was almost a gate closing public information film 😂 excellent stuff!

Here in south Quebec, Canada, autumn colours are later than usual by almost 2 weeks.
Thee BEST yet....a wondrful walk
You captured some fantastic images Henry lovely video 😊
Calendar shipment email 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉.
Wow, every image is gorgeous! What a treat! Autumn is a bit late in Canada too.
The lake district is is beautiful Henry, especially when enhanced by your photographs. 🙂
Many thanks!
Your a better man than me to scramble down that steep bank to Colwith Force, I ve looked but been restrained before now! That’s a good circular walk from Elterwater as an alternative.
Nice Wander, with lots of variety , thanks
What a beautiful walk today. Thank you so much for sharing the journey with all of us. Thank you as well for sharing your insights. Cheers to many more to come :)
Autumn slow in arriving in some areas.
Another wonderful, warm and quiet outdoor video.
I loved it, thanks.
That looks like a good walk Henry & how are the eyes after your surgey.Take care.
It is called "Hybrid Autumn." It's a new Autumn which has greenery and of course a hint of change within it.
Great walk and photos, especially liked the final one with the white house below the hills and the autumnal birch.
Just found your videos and I am impressed. with your photography and really enjoyed the video. You now have another follower!
Awesome, thank you!
Hi Henry, another great video! I have to say that "autumn" or the colour that goes along with it were late here in Ontario, Canada as well. Cheers!

I always get the OS maps up on my PC and trace Henry's route. Colwith Force is NY328031, High Oxen Fell NY323019, quarries around NY315018.
@@neildpugh Cheers for the reply. Much appreciated.
Only just catching up with this one... You should have taken I kite with you 😅
I really enjoyed that walk you took us on, Henry. A beautiful part of the country and your photos were, as you say yourself, mint! There wasn't one I didn't like. I hope you are enjoying your new camera. Looking forward to being back there with you when autumn finally arrives.
Another fantastic video Henry. your are very inspirational and i am trying very hard to improve my landscape photography. thank you again

Went to Fairy Glenn in a Standish near Wigan yesterday. This on a smaller scale😂. Load of debris near the falls and a pain to get to 🤪
Another great adventure!
I dont prefer to previsualize because i dont want to be disappointed. Mother Nature dictates what I see and I try to enjoy and photograph.
Henry where did you get your hat? I need one for the winter is it waterproof?
Amazing shots and vlog once again Henry, we have a small group that go out at least once a week doing Landscape and all other Genres of photography. This looks like a walk that I would like to do Henry, easy on the legs for me 😊 do you have a link for this walk you done today? TIA
How did u hand hold the waterfall pano with a 1/4 sec. Shutter?
I still can't believe you can get away with no tripod on those slow shutter shots
Nice images ...
Hi Henry, when you say "You're not sure if there,s a shot there or not", why don't you take it anyway? You can always delete in computer.
You're braver than me with the wasps though, no way I would have done that 😅
Not using a tripod is liberating, isn't it. Very nice photos and a lovely walk too.
Great video, as usual!!
The main reason for not getting out in the middle of the day is the number of people that get in the way of your shot. I visited Slaters bridge a couple of years ago, and could not get a photo because of the children playing in the water. Accept they have a right to do so but it means that as landscape photographers we need to get out earlier or later in the day.
why did they take down these trees?
Great vid. Did you find out what the farting tree tube was?😂
Well Henry you have left your ''ducksfeet'' off the gear list.😈
I must admit that going out any time of the day does not bother me, golden hour is a fantastic time of day, but it is not the be all and end all, as for the expectations of what I may have when going to a certain place, the cold truth is I have never had expectations, it is what it is when I get there
