Honestly I really enjoyed showing these comparisons between the UK and US versions. So here's a prompt for ya: Are there any TERRIBLE films you'd love to see covered that were dubbed the other way round? From the US, to the UK. I think it could be fun making the UK the butt of the jokes next time round!
To be fair, I do like The Magic Roundabout, but the UK version, because despite all its cons, I still hold it as a pretty good film. Better than some of the worst things that would be released later on. And that was released in 2005. If you knew everything, you’d certainly be shocked if something was worse than that, I would be horrified and would rather watch this film!
Growing up i never realized that "DoOgAl" was based on anything. I always assumed someone came up with it after waking up from a cocaine induced fever dream.
I'm never going to understand how in the US, every kid's movie has to include characters farting, belching, and vomiting pop culture references. I think that Disney is the only company that doesn't seem to rely on characters farting, or belching loudly or anything related in their animated movies. Sadly, you can't say the same about the pop culture references. Hollywood seems to be obsessed with vomiting all the pop culture references that they possibly could into their kids movies.
Sadly, many people think kids only care about low-brow humor and that you need to keep their attention at all times, otherwise they get bored. Might be good for a chuckle, but that's kinda it.
It's cause Shrek was such a massive success and the rest of the family media industry decided that it must be because of the low brow humor and cgi and not because it was actually a good story
I think there’s something Dazz didn’t notice about the British version: Dougal is shown to grow aware of his candy addiction and the problems it caused (This is actually the point of the nightmare scene that got cut). And in the ending scene, Florence offers Dougal a caramel but he hesitates before accepting it, implying he’ll be more careful with his love for candy for now on. On the other hand in the US version, not only does the nightmare get cut but a flashback from mid-movie that showcases Dougal happily eating a whole cake and Florence disapproving it is moved to the very end of the film, making it look like he learned nothing.
Wait, when I saw this on netflix a little while ago, that explains why it was so weird to me! I had the British one growing up, apparently, and never knew. I prefer that one to the US one if Im going to watch it, for sure.
I used to be forced to watch this hundreds of times as a kid because Albania had only one kids channel and I had nothing else to do. I can’t tell you just how much I fucking despise this movie...

Unpopular opinion; but I believe the UK version (the magical roundabout) was a pretty great for a kid's movie. I remember clearly the soldier guy's redemption arc tearing me up, and other moments (like the skeletons) scaring the shit out of my 8 year old self. The film got me really invested and I still remember it very fondly.
The issue with calling it a good kids movie is the parents. If you make a kids movie you need to make it entertaning for not just the kids but the parents, because the parents are the ones that bring the kids to the movies in the first place and chaperone them. If it's boring to them then they'll go to another movie with their kids that can entertain them or even bust out the old collection, they're the ones with the spending power. From that perspective it's an awful kids movie. Also were there any other movies you remember fondly at the time because if that's it then I honestly feel sorry for you. I lived off of many of the Disney princess movies and The Iron Giant as a boy. I played Aladdin who-knows-how many times on the VCR.

Fun fact #1: Butch Hartman was a script editor for this movie and has openly apologized for how this movie turned out. Fun fact #2: From the outset the American studio had no idea what The Magic Roundabout was and advertised the film as A-list celebrity voice actors improvising pop culture references for an hour and a half. Most movies advertise their characters and plot, but Doogal actively encouraged now-dated pop culture references.
Everyone's talking about how they either loved or hated this movie, and I'm just trying to live down the fact that I had a MASSIVE crush on Sam the Soldier when I was a kid. (Also, this movie was my absolute childhood and I'm just realizing how janky it was)

If it'll help take the taste away, the _real_ Magic Roundabout movie was made in 1972 and is called _Dougal and the Blue Cat_ (note spelling). And it's brilliant. Rather than a generic evil twin plot, the villain in this is a blue Yorkshire cat called Buxton who wants to turn everything blue... and the incredibly creepy Blue Voice which is what gives him his power. It's all stop motion, just like the original series. Sadly it's not on UA-cam, although you can find the French original.

Sad thing is I had watched this movie when I was young, and weirdly enough I enjoyed it... I never could remember the name so thank you for reminding me of a movie from the past
Tbh, when I was little it was my favorite movie. I use to watch it all the time when I was a kid. Like Jesus, I never knew my childhood could come back to me like this.
This is a movie that would pop into my mind for seconds at the weirdest moments in life. I was sadly stuck with the US dub, though I kinda wish I watched the British version. It just sounds better.
I have never and will never say the words "off the hook" seriously. Even as a kid I hated hearing that phrase. There's a lot of typical phrases in American movies that the vast majority of their target audience thinks are awful. I swear its part of our culture for the older generation to make the younger generation look stupid by attempting to popularize things no kid has ever said. I'm also confident in saying most Americans are tired of the pop culture spam in movies too.
7:55 When your such a undertale fan that you can see that it's a undyne the undying wall screen just from that tiny bit we can see. I think that's the genocide package picture.
Despite how odd the U.S. version is, on some small level I enjoyed it. There was a weird kind of charm to it, in the sense that it was so bad it was nearly good.
i remember logging into my computer then selecting one of my trillions of movies i dowloaded, and doogal was among them, at the time, i didnt really know what was going on in the film since i was so little, but remember having a nightmare about all of the charecters chasing me :(
Despite how inferior the US dub is compared to the original UK version (and this is coming from someone from the US that grew up with the former), I don't mind if there are people that like it. After all, not everyone is going to share the same opinions as everyone else, and that's OK. Just don't obsess over it or else you'll drive other people insane.
The US version may have some flaws, but that's the version I'm familiar with from my childhood experiences of enjoying watching this many times at old homes and hotels years ago. Doogal will always hold a place in my heart no matter what.
I remember seeing a cartoon series based on this film in Australia the British version but God it's so confusing because none of the voices match and the train was mute for all I can remember
BRO I’VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS MOVIE FOR SO LONG- MY ASS KEPT LOOKING UP “ice dude with springs and fire dude with springs” TO GOOGLE THE ENTIRE TIME BECAUSE I FORGOT THE DAMN NAME, GOOGLE PROBS THOUGHT I WAS MAD
I saw the British one when I was growing up, and I found it to be quite fun back then. I saw the redubbed one when I was older, and it made me think I wasn't drunk enough to find it as amusing.
Years ago, I watched a trailer, and then the movie, and I was like “wait a minute, why is it that the trailer had an adult voice for the dog but in the movie it was a much younger voice?”
The film’s American dub is the only version where Doogal (U.K. Dougal) was voiced by a youngster-in all other versions he is clearly a temperamental adult. The childlike voice works on some level for him (in keeping for example with his addiction to candy and sugar) but unfortunately sacrificed are the other aspects of his character: his sarcasm and cynicism. In all versions he remains a bit self-involved, but can step up heroically when it comes down to being loyal and brave to aid his friends.
I used to watch this movie all the time but the DVD gets corrupted by the time the train reappears from apparent death at the iceberg/castle final battle scene so I rarely watch the ending of this movie (I haven't watched the video yet)
This brought back buried memories. I watched this in theatres ages ago,; I affectionately remember some parts but very vaguely, and I was beginning to wonder if it was a fever dream until I recognized Doogal in the thumbnail.
I mostly remember loving this movie for the character designs and fun bits of lore (and the adorable little Doogal plush I had for years), so maybe I should just try the UK version if I ever plan to watch Doogal again...
I remember watch "The Magic Roundabout" but not as a movie, as a TV show. I remember watching it everyday non stop repeating every episode. It was like in 2011-2013ish, so I'm not sure if you could find it anywhere. But if you do, please send me a link and/or do a video reacting to it. Cuz I want to see how much my childhood holds up.
@@Randomperson-lc4le Oh my lord, thank you so much. Just listening to the first few minutes gives me a rush of nostalgia. Thank you so much for bringing back my childhood, thank you.
oh my god, THATS where i remember this from, i was confused cause i remembered a part of the movie from like the middle of it, and nothing else, but a trailer clip would totally explain it, and i know i had a hoodwinked DVD at one point.
I used to be obsessed with this when I was a kid, like every time I could come home from Primary school, I'd smack that dvd in the DVD player and rewatch it at least 2 times a day while slowly driving my sister insane from it to the point where when I was 8 she threw the dvd out and made sure she broke it cause she hated it that much

Whoever greenlit that Blue Man Group joke should never work in the entertainment business again.
Haven't seen the movie
Gonna watch this video
Probably gonna die
Yeah, I haven't seen it either.. hopefully I'll know wut it is after this vid.
What do you mean probably
Well well well
I’m so glad that I watched the proper UK version, when I was younger...
Same
I never heard of the magic roundabout or the stop motion series
as an American, I feel personally attacked by this version existing.
Yeah, the British one was better
Can't believe they made a movie about JimmyHere.
dude i love how you put the music for Kirby’s Epic Yarn in. revived a deep seeded memory of mine. :)
The character models, especially the main villian where always nightmare fuel for me. And now almost a decade later, Im still terrified
Sad thing is I had watched this movie when I was young, and weirdly enough I enjoyed it... I never could remember the name so thank you for reminding me of a movie from the past
I vaguely remembered this movie, googled "Movie with blue spring man," and now I'm here. And I'm not disappointed.

I swear, pop culture references are the true lowest form of comedy.
i didn't remember the animation looking like a cutscene from a wii game
Tbh, when I was little it was my favorite movie. I use to watch it all the time when I was a kid. Like Jesus, I never knew my childhood could come back to me like this.
I remember this movie was like a fucking fever dream when i was younger.
12:39 “DyLAn!”
“woah”
“iTs BEdTimE”
“thanks for waking me up to let me know…”
5:59 Actually.
Dude I watched this thing like every day of the week until it “mysteriously” went missing one day
7:55
When your such a undertale fan that you can see that it's a undyne the undying wall screen just from that tiny bit we can see. I think that's the genocide package picture.
The overused pop culture references (Thanks and No Thanks to Weinstein) felt like watching an episode of Samurai Pizza Cats, BUT AS A TORTURE DEVICE!
Despite how odd the U.S. version is, on some small level I enjoyed it. There was a weird kind of charm to it, in the sense that it was so bad it was nearly good.
i remember logging into my computer then selecting one of my trillions of movies i dowloaded, and doogal was among them, at the time, i didnt really know what was going on in the film since i was so little, but remember having a nightmare about all of the charecters chasing me :(
17:32 funny how Silent Bob himself voiced a goddamn farting moose!
I must be 12 cus the Moose farting away was hilarious especially w the “why?!” From ur gf afterwards 😂😂😂 13:43
Man crazy to see jimmy here before his youtube career
FINALLY! I've been looking for so long for a jimmy here joke!
@@squidsushi8644 lol I'm surprised I didn't see one too
Alternate title: Dazz and his Gf roasting my childhood for 18 minutes straight
This movie has terrorized my young brain for so long and anytime I hear any song that was in this movie i just have flashbacks to this movie
I was scared of skeletons as a kid, so that one scene didn't go down too well with me.
this was honestly so tucked away in my memory, I thought it was a dream. Thanks for uncovering it.
so sorry it didnt work out for jimmy...
Completely forgot this existed but my school would play this non stop when we weren’t allowed outside when it was “to rainy”
I actually really liked this movie as a kid, I kinda still like it today. The music was always the best part tbf.
The Notebook 2004 1080p what movie name
In the french version, the one I saw as a kid, its called: P O L L U X
And he has a strong british accent in the original show!
@@utradoskeus we want English and if the American version is bad the UK version is the only option left
“It is Wednesday my dudes.”
Doogal was my favorite movie as a kid tied with wall-e and no matter how much hate it gets it will always hold a special place in my heart
@Chippy Rin well, Train was speaking in a train of thought.(no pun intended)
BRO I’VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS MOVIE FOR SO LONG- MY ASS KEPT LOOKING UP “ice dude with springs and fire dude with springs” TO GOOGLE THE ENTIRE TIME BECAUSE I FORGOT THE DAMN NAME, GOOGLE PROBS THOUGHT I WAS MAD
If you know "JimmyHere" you know what I would say about who Doogal looks like
Edit: My phone auto corrected it
Cant believe they made a movie based on the Its Wednesday My Dudes guy
I saw the British one when I was growing up, and I found it to be quite fun back then. I saw the redubbed one when I was older, and it made me think I wasn't drunk enough to find it as amusing.
Years ago, I watched a trailer, and then the movie, and I was like “wait a minute, why is it that the trailer had an adult voice for the dog but in the movie it was a much younger voice?”
The film’s American dub is the only version where
Doogal (U.K.
"I look nothing like Doogal"
- Jimmy Here
Why did we even need an American dub… they’re both English…
I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A BRITISH VERSION. WTF I OWN THE US... THE VOICE DUBBING MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE NOW
This brought back buried memories.
WHAT I DIDNT KNOW THERE WAS A FILM ABOUT JIMMY
im holding back my urge to say "jimmyhere"
I remember watch "The Magic Roundabout" but not as a movie, as a TV show. I remember watching it everyday non stop repeating every episode. It was like in 2011-2013ish, so I'm not sure if you could find it anywhere. But if you do, please send me a link and/or do a video reacting to it. Cuz I want to see how much my childhood holds up.
This series ?

I watched it and this video hit me like a truck from the memories
@@Randomperson-lc4le Oh my lord, thank you so much. Just listening to the first few minutes gives me a rush of nostalgia. Thank you so much for bringing back my childhood, thank you.
@@bobthebuilder8110 no problem bro
I remember seeing a trailer for Doogal on this Hoodwinked DVD, I never watched Doogal though, but I did used to watch Hoodwinked a lot as a kid
hoodwinked is goated
oh my god, THATS where i remember this from, i was confused cause i remembered a part of the movie from like the middle of it, and nothing else, but a trailer clip would totally explain it, and i know i had a hoodwinked DVD at one point.
I’m glad I grew up with the UK Magic Roundabout movie. That was much better
This movie scared me as a kid. There was something really uncanny and creepy about the humor, dialogue, and scenes. It felt wrong.
Same, but it fascinated me, so I kept watching it over and over but it was like a horror movie for 5 year old me.
