We’re living in a world right now where most corporations are ripping us off. It’s not about the consumer anymore, it’s all about the investors and their quartely revenue…
I've been saying for a minute that the profit driven design decisions by Nike are ripping consumers off. This season makes it especially glaring: We've seen shoes almost universally regress in tech: The GT Hustle is just is the same cushion that you can grab in the Unity 2 and that was in the KD15- at a higher price point. They removed the cushion system from the Zion 2 and put that into the KD16. The Freak 5 is now the same setup as the Ja 1= which itself was/is basically just the KD Trey5. The Jordans are basically just a strobel- with bs tech talk for the 'cross plate', but at a signature Jordan price. The Bron 21 is the same as the 20 with a different shell but minus the carbon fibre shank- at the same price; the 21 is the same setup as the Nxxt Gen at $40 more. It's a joke. I've realised I have no interest in this seasons shoes because all the value and tech is better in last years- which are generally way cheaper now because they're moving towards the blowout prices.
Kinda why Asian brands are better based entirely on value Like nike will give full length zoom at cheap shoes and prices then take it away in name of "improvement" or say zoom and it a gumsticl unit or even worse a tic tac one like in the jordan 14.5 I believe I barely feel zoom unless it's full length and not to mention that I need outdoor shoes 4 the durability and nike and adidas don't have that or the cushion for a good price ugh
I’m here for these retros…because I’m 48. For the 8, 18, and 28 year-olds, I’m just as curious to know their response. More than retros, I’m about the protro route for 90s materials and last shapes. Please keep highlighting brands like BrandBlack and Ethics. I’m here for this and you, Nightwing.
Being born in 2000 I missed on a lot of good shit especially from the 90’s lol. The gloves are a shoe I’ve always wanted but wished was retrod properly along with many other shoes. I had no idea these even existed lol. Nike should definitely consider bringing those back. Maybe do a three shoe drop of the gloves, the tee bugs, and the fun police. Each with three color ways. The white/black, silver and neon green, black and yellow, and the third installment maybe being just a new color way never featured on the shoes before.
Best basketball shoe ever. When I was a serious player had so many pair of these. They were a pre-cursor to the philosophy of the kobe and kyrie sneakers.
Vince Carter’s shoes before he signed with Nike were to me, one of the nicest, cleanest-looking designs for a bball shoe: The And 1 Tai Chi. If only those had some Zoom Air in the sole, and better ankle support.
Seeing these remind me of another model of that era he wore, which is the all-time favourite of mine, the Air Flight Determination (1999). I wore those into the ground, and yet were still so cool a friend took them off me when I grew out of them.
Bring both back! The black Air Zoom Flight Glove was the first Nike I bought with my own money, so it always has a special place in my heart. And Mr. Timothy Hardaway was the truth. UTEP-2-Step!
On God I was thinking the exact same earlier this week. Its at a point where I need to go purchase high end insoles (Move all day pro) for high end shoes bc the quality is not there at all any more. Im going to ebay more to buy older models.
Nike went from a company run by athletes for athletes to a company tun by suits for profit ( i mean they were making profit before but you catch my drift)
These are 🔥. I forgot that the T-Bug’s existed lol. I had the white Gary Payton’s…super comfortable, I wore them in middle school. I also had those blue and white Pennys from the magazine. I totally agree that Nike should retro a lot of the quality tech. The retro 14s are not the same without the articulated zoom. Jordan brand also made a lower tier hoop shoe that resembled the 10s. It had a lightweight synthetic upper material and a thin foam midsole. It didn’t have any zoom or air but the foam had the perfect balance of court-feel, cushion and impact protection. They were decent for outdoor hooping as well. I don’t know the name but I had them in 2008/2009.
There's a reason Nike's retros are their best selling shoes. It's just like old cars... They don't make them like they used to. No imagination, no new ideas or designs... Inferior materials.
💯 we need these retro’d true to the OG! Love the mid-late 90’s kicks and it’s a shame when they do get retro’d they cut all corners like the shanks and zoom setups :(
I had them my senior year of high school. I loved them too! The outsole peeled real bad on mine like early. Fortunately I worked at footlocker, had a cool manager, and he let me exchange them for something else.
Funny thing about that manager is I was the only employee he never yelled at there lol. He said it was because he never had to tell me to do stuff more than once 😂
There’s so many gems in the archives that all of these brands could bring back. From Nike to Adidas to Reebok. Like i loved that Reebok brought back the Emmitt Smith trainer. Would love these T Bugs to come back the right way.
@@TitusMH It's called "Inflation", the deprivation of quality of life by FED and the Elite Banksters. Even If you find a BETTER job your money is worth LESS than it was ONE year ago...
$100 in 98 is $180 now. Also it sucks that Tim Hardaway Sr has some pretty strong opinions about certain folks that makes it hard to probably roll out retros of his shoes. He still a Chi legend
I had the 2nd color way for those T-Bugs. They were super comfortable, and have been waiting 2 decades and some change for them to be dropped again. That and the classic Glove.
Saved up for space jams... lasted 2 months cause i hooped in them every day after i got them back then. My favorite shoe was the Pippen's they had at the end of the 90s. They lasted about 6 months... i was the 90s kid that played outside more than i did in the indoor courts. I trashed my basketball shoes, and only wore them to hoop. Still do it today.
Ahh....when mid-cut sneakers were actually mid. Thanks for the memories Nightwing; makes me sad seeing what they offer today. Kicks looked good for on and off the court. I remember the T-Bug Flight, b/c unlike a lot of the other shoes that came out, it was kind of under the radar. I remember The Glove got all the press, and when you would see the T-Bug in a magazine, it seemed like it had the smallest ad, with Tim Hardaway being surrounded by a cyclone. (yeah, I remember that ad in my "old" age of 44!)😆
Man those were my first legit basketball shoes in 6th Grade. They were so lightweight and fun to play in. (Outdoors it handled itself well as most basketball courts in the Philippines at that time had cement flooring)
Best sneaker channel, we are the same age just abo it grew up in the same era same taste .. I only take your word when it comes to sneakers for ball .. shit I just bought the lebron 20lifers and I haven’t bought en a pair of lebrons since 2005
Had the grey colorway with the lime green internal back in 7th grade (98). Still to this day, one of the lightest and most comfortable shoes to ball in I had ever owned.
As performance shoes these can absolutely wipe the floor on some new Nike releases. In todays market it likely will sit due to not having current player endorsement and the ‘old’ looks. Nike likes profits….
Those Tim Hardaway shoes are lowkey underrated. What's even more underrated thought Chris and that sponsor plug. As a nurse I don't care if it's paid or free but the fact that as a content creator you're making mental health less taboo by speaking out and giving viewers a different outlet for help!! When I heard on a special news report that it only cost Nike 25 cents to make their shoes I stopped considering them as an option. That was in the mid to late 80’s.
I'm 22 and just missed this era of dope designs and quality. It is dissapointing to see how nike has declined since those days, the OG basketball shoes they made are just so cool to me. great vid man!
The T-Bugs were a fav of mine…but never owned it! The Fun Police campaign was Fantastic!!!! Plus I LOVED the monkey paw system, because it worked! It was even in the Shox BB4. If I had to pick between the two…I’d take the T-Bug, but my ultimate choice would be the GP1! ❤️💯
ahh memories. those magazines were awesome. you could just browse them over and over and just marvel at the shoes. print was really something back then.
I have a retro Jordan 11 Space Jam 2016 and an Anta KG6 2015. I only used the Js when going to work, while I also used the KGs when going jogging. The soles of the Js have already fallen off, while it's still pretty much intact in the KGs with a few signs of dragging. The 2 Qiaodans I had were pretty durable, comfortable and squeaky as hell too. My new 361° AG 2020 high tops are also frickin' amazing, to say the least. Chinese brands these days are just as good, or even better, as well known Western brands when it comes to basketball shoes. Craziest part is I bought these 4 Chinese sneakers for a grand total of $30 USD , while the Js cost me $20 USD 😂
Yes they definitely need to retro these I would buy these in a heart beat I had the white and neon green version only because my parents wouldn’t buy me the air Jordan 14s at the time which were $150 at the time and the T-Bug’s were only $85 because they were on sale and all the sale shoes at footlocker back in the day were set in tables at the end of the store
I’ve been saying the same exact thing for years. Nike has been rereleasing shoes that don’t have the same tech, fit, or comfort as some of the OG’s.The most disappointing retro Jordan’s that I’ve purchased in the past couple of years was the AJ12 “Playoffs”, AJ 11 IE, and AJ 11 “72-10”. I noticed right away after wearing my Jordan 12’s 3-4 different times that there was no zoom air tech at all. They felt more like combat boots than basketball shoes. Neither of the Jordan 11’s I purchased had the top tier cushioning that we all know, love, and have coveted them for. They both had stiff insoles comparable to old Payless shoes. And they were purchased from reputable well known companies like finishline, footlocker, and StockX. Nike as a corporation see these retro’s as a complete cash grab rather than a chance to give an authentic, nostalgic approach to shoes that reeled us all in in the first place.
I’m a big retro kicks fan even tho I didn’t grow up on a lot of them. I especially love how the older models are way more wearable everyday as part of fits compared to most new gen shoes. I’d definitely rock the t bug
Those Zoom Flight 98 gloves retros also has nothing in the forefoot and it's dissapointing, because the "Zoom Air" is wrote in both forefoot and heel (tiny hex unit that can't be noticed). I miss those wonderful years.
Crazy I was just talking about these yesterday. I bought a pair form eBay a few years back and they crumbled on me while walking around sun valley mall
Nike now is just all about different colorways, textile uppers and “storytelling “. I even like the Nike shoe boxes in the 90s better than the orange shite now. SMH. I’m glad I grew up in the 90s and enjoyed superior Nike products.
Zoom t-bug flight !!! Hell yeah hell yeah....Nightwing you never cease to amaze me ! Hopefully next on the list will be the original flightposite series
I love the old shoes but never could afford or even get alot of them here in the UK . I still have the rising stars vhs aswell as NBA jam session, sir Charles and shaq vhs tapes , I'm surprised they still played the amount I watched them back then .
Its funny because i was about 16/17 when these dropped and they considered a takedown of the GP amongst me and my peers. It was lost in the Nike flightposite, Nike Ndestruskt, Go LWP, Uptempos, zoom flight, pippen 2, Penny foams, Jordan 13, Sensations, air Bakin, Max uptempo, Max battle force. LAWD the list can go on and on. What a time to be alive!!!! But looking at them now they are a solid especially for the price point at the time. They just had so much heat that came out in that 2-4 year time span it was insane. I think the issue with bringing them out today is they are purely basketball esthetically (like many of the kicks back then).
Nike basketball, and even Nike football, was king in the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. One show that I had and I thought was really cool was a Nike Tim Duncan, can't remember the exact name, but it was full length air and had a webbing over it kinda like the Air Kukini. I can't hardly even pics of that shoe these days, but it was cool.
Air Team Max! my favorite shoe to play in, and haven't found a better shoe since. Thanks for showing love to the 90s ball shoes. Also had the glove and t-bug, glove had much better lockdown support
I think since the Cosmic Unity came out in 2020, Nike has been making a move to recycled synthetics for their performance shoes. A lot of the leather shoes from that era probably won't see the light of day again, unfortunately.
I had so many of the classics. I know how you feel. I wanted, so much, to buy the re-release of the Jordan 11 Bred, but the fact it wasn’t a 1 to 1 reproduction let me know the love was gone, for good. I can’t, with the Nike remixes. I moved on to material-based purchases nearly 20 years ago. The last Jordans I purchased were the 2010 VI and the VVIII in 08. I wasn’t disappointed with those. I miss the wait at the gate, for the store to open. I miss knowing I was undoubtedly getting a superior product. I miss the pricing, and it making sense. I miss the quality and materials… the smell of the shoe fresh out of the box. Nike’s cost-cutting made me a more informed consumer. I find myself researching every minor detail and flaw before a purchase. You can’t have a loss without a gain. But, no, there are a lot of things they don’t make like they used to, and I damn sure miss that, in general.
Really feeling your viewpoint. Re:shift to textile, it wouldn’t be half as bad if they would actually stitch it together. Just 1 example, ordered the Stüssy Penny 2s and there was glue popping out of every “seam.” (Or does the glue make it a joint??) 😂😢
Nike does need to bring back some of their old technologies, styles and quality. Or get back to really innovate and push performance. I feel that nowadays they care more about quantity/variety than quality and performance.
i like the budget version over the glove one... just cuz less materials. i would never wear either casually honestly, but to hoop in, prolly the budget joints. but as far as compared to modern shoes, they would have to be really comfortable so i wish they would retro with the real tech to try. i also tend to like low tops more. i wonder how these feel on court tho, especially making lateral cuts
Those were a serious shoe back in the day. You don’t get value because they don’t want to make a quality shoe without attaching a star to advertise it. Lou Williams has a shoe.
We’re living in a world right now where most corporations are ripping us off. It’s not about the consumer anymore, it’s all about the investors and their quartely revenue…

I absolutely love digging in those magazines for the trip down memory lane.
Man showing that Eastbay page definitely unlocked some core memories!!
The "Air Go" was my favorite Tim Hardaway signature show...Extremely light and comfortable for its time.
I had 2 pair of the Glove back in middle school those things were so dam comfy.. we are being bent over a barrel with shoes now days…
I think since the Cosmic Unity came out in 2020, Nike has been making a move to recycled synthetics for their performance shoes. A lot of the leather shoes from that era probably won't see the light of day again, unfortunately.
Facts! I had the original air max 97 in 97! They were super comfortable and had amazing cushioning. Tried on some the other they were hard 🤔🤔🤔🤔
I had those uptempo in the black/ white/neon green colorway and played in them for about 10 years
Still waiting for so many basketball shoes in the 90s to retro ... so much nostalgia as a sneaker head where it all started for me
The air zoom flight ‘98 are one of my favorites shoes I wish Nike would bring them back
They already did
@@WearTesters I mean I know they did in like ‘13 and ‘14 but I want another drop before 2026
Zoom flight glove for me black pair with the silver laces. T-bug fit wider to me. That air bakin was the one tho.
Totally amazing shoes! I would buy three pairs nowadays, but with the same technology of course, can't agree with you more on that subject!
Bring back the Chris Webber Air Max Sensation black/blue pair again. Need them
I second that 💯😊
I had so many of the classics.
You said it, Nike bring back the fairness. Thanks for this video, loaded with memories 90's the best basketball era.
Chris I agree, I always thought they were GP shoes because of the hand insignia....love TMC tho....also the venom over captain shield 🔥 and flash 🔥
I've stop wearing Nike for 2 years now .I started with the retro basketball sneaker quality just being the cheapest and always cost 200 retail.
Had the White Blue Volt OGs. One of the best performers. Zip covers ALWAYS broke tho.😢
I had the Gloves and they were sick. Love all of these models and I always looked forward to the newest issue of SLAM to see what was coming next
Nike does need to bring back some of their old technologies, styles and quality. Or get back to really innovate and push performance.
I feel that nowadays they care more about quantity/variety than quality and performance.
I definitely think just hearing some of the history is cool cause if you weren’t around back then you just don’t get the context of the shoes
i like the budget version over the glove one... just cuz less materials. i would never wear either casually honestly, but to hoop in, prolly the budget joints. but as far as compared to modern shoes, they would have to be really comfortable so i wish they would retro with the real tech to try. i also tend to like low tops more. i wonder how these feel on court tho, especially making lateral cuts
Those were a serious shoe back in the day. You don’t get value because they don’t want to make a quality shoe without attaching a star to advertise it. Lou Williams has a shoe.
