  • RJ Corman Railroad Company with a empty ethanol train on the Greenville line, formerly Cincinnati Northern track. First RJ Corman with RJC 4121 GP20 comes north with some interchange cars and RJC 1832 trailing. The Andersons ethanol plant was really needing the empty cars so they didn't hand them off to CSX. After tying onto and air testing their train the departed south from Ansonia Ohio. I filmed them at a rural crossing and then in Greenville.

Awesome! that is interesting how they have to do a switchback move to get to that last customer at the end

Conrail should have left them a bit more track. It takes over an hour to shuffle a unit train from the CN tothe PRR.

I grew up in Fairport. Seems like business has dropped off by half every decade since the diamond closed til there’s almost nothing left. Erie coke and the Rayon ran into the 80s. The 90s still had Uniroyal and Hach had a very busy sand loading operation.

The former B&O lake branch has too many houses built on it now

This is the first time I have ever seen tank cars with shields on the front and back. Does anyone know why ?

Suppose to make them more crash worthy. They’re standard on crude oil tanks

got to love the welded rail. PC laid welded on this line from carlisle jct to ansonia back in the 1970s.
by 1983 the line was no longer used for through freight. the last ever Conrail train i photoed was a west bound in ansonia, and ironically enough it was the presidents business train with E8s, the first and only time i ever saw/photoed the E8s.
ironically the laying of welded rail here was to facilitate the abandonment of the richmond-cincy exPRR line.
this ex PRR line rich-cin is now a heavy duty main for NS, while the line that was fixed up ansonia-carlisle has been segmented.
    oh, the irony.

Shipping explosives in black tankers is a smart idea.

Why would it be a bad idea?

the sun heat black ya know
the tanks expanding the gas ready to blow ya know, just simple math equals morons equasion

Most tankers are double-hulled & insulated.

agreed but flammable fluids and gasses expand inside black containers and have a much higher rate of exploding than white containers..

Was the 412 in DPU mode or was the 1832 doing all the work?

    • @ScottTaipaleRail
      @ScottTaipaleRail  6 років тому

The 1832 was doing it all. 4121 was at idle. I believe they’re going down a slight grade also. Once loaded they’ll split the train in 2 and the both locos will be in notch 8!
