My father was a police officer for almost 45 years. Retired after 8 years of being the Chief. At his funeral over 50 officers showed up, stood in a line, all shook my hand and told me how much they respected my father. My worst fear is never living up to the legacy he left me.

i lost my dog (a basset hound) and this one was special he was not a family pet i lost him two years ago to cancer, i just lost my aunt that died in her sleep she was 30, when i was four i lost my two best friends a black and white basset and a big black dog. My grandma lost her 3 cats one by one (when we lived with her) the last one that died was the one with health issues( she had a white orange and brown cat named may who got choked by the blinds, the other cat was a brown one and died from cancer and the last cat was a fat one and loved hiding under her bed, she made the choice to put him down soon after the other cats

I can relate to this boys pain. My dad was a fine police officer back in the day. He might not have been killed in line of duty but he had suffered with rapid growth of colon cancer that was diagnosed in summer of '02, died on Thursday, Dec 12, 2002 at 8:05 pm. Yes I remembered the exact date and time of his passing. I was 7 years old. The reason why I mentioned this is because I know how it feels to lose a father at a very young age. I know I have and still to this day, I miss my dad. I hope this kid have a strong heart.

I remember this day, I live in Terre Haute and was 14 when this happened. My dad is a Terre Haute Police officer and me and my mom were in the car listening to the scanner and heard officer down. We keep texting my dad and he wouldn’t respond, and we thought it was him. It wasn’t my father, but unfortunately it was the father of another boy who had lost his dad. I was at the funeral for Mr. Pitts and it was one of the toughest moments in my life trying not to cry. I can’t imagine what Dakota was going through, but at least he knows his father died a hero. I'm glad these officers showed Dakota's Dad so much respect and was there for his son. I've found Police Officers always go above and beyond for their community. My heart goes out to his fellow officers and family.
I can relate to this boys pain. My dad was a fine police officer back in the day. He might not have been killed in line of duty but he had suffered with rapid growth of colon cancer that was diagnosed in summer of '02, died on Thursday, Dec 12, 2002 at 8:05 pm. Yes I remembered the exact date and time of his passing. I was 7 years old. The reason why I mentioned this is because I know how it feels to lose a father at a very young age. I know I have and still to this day, I miss my dad. I hope this kid have a strong heart.

I remember this day, I live in Terre Haute and was 14 when this happened. My dad is a Terre Haute Police officer and me and my mom were in the car listening to the scanner and heard officer down. We keep texting my dad and he wouldn’t respond, and we thought it was him. It wasn’t my father, but unfortunately it was the father of another boy who had lost his dad. I was at the funeral for Mr. Pitts and it was one of the toughest moments in my life trying not to cry. I can’t imagine what Dakota was going through, but at least he knows his father died a hero. Rest In Peace Robert Pitts.
