Glad you are almost at the end! I've seen other full timers do the harvest and it looks really really tough. It's good you plan to take Lefty to the vet on Monday. I would have expected improvement by now too so a recheck is good to do. Hope you are both feeling better soon!
Dave and Lefty remember you have all this love and positivity coming your way from all of us. You are also in a different area when it comes to treating pets. So Lefty is going to be fine. It is much love as that little man has reaching him 24/7 he can't help but be well. ❤❤❤😊
Glad to see things are winding down . Antibiotics take about 8 to 10 days to really take effect. hang in there if there is no improvement a its good idea to see vet on Monday. Our pups are always on our minds, no need to apologize. My pup Kendall is battling some serious health issues. We understand what you are going through. So we are sending all the good karma your way. Stay safe my friend.
Please don't apologize for the quality of your video. It is interesting to me to learn about the beet harvest. As for worrying about Lefty, you are not crazy at all. He is your family and best friend. Lefty fills my heart with joy. ❤ I don't know him, but I love him! I'm praying for you both. I have dealt with a dog's torn toenail in the past. Seeing this happen to Lefty (and you) causes me pain and sadness. I am sure that it will heal, though. Take care, and rest with Lefty when you're finished with the harvest.
Hi David and Lefty. Thank you for taking the time during your break and making a video for all of us. Glad you made it through the harvest. Not so tuff at the end is good. You make good money for little effort. Sorry for Jeff not making it. He at least made a few extra bucks. Poor lefty. Confidence in you though David. You'll see that he's well taken care of and comforted. Of that I'm sure. Good luck to you guys and safe travels. Do you now meet up with Jeff and begin to make your way to Quartzite? Or are you going to make an adventure and go all over?
You should see some improvement in Lefty's paw this weekend. Good luck getting back to your old routine. You're going to feel off for a couple of days. Be careful driving. You'll be fine and so will Lefty. Smile and take a deep breath. We are all sending wishes and prayers. I used to work industrial shut downs. We would work 12 to 16 hours a day, 7 days a week for 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the job site and the weather. I did this until I was 66 Now I'm 70 and don't know how I did it.
I just went through the very same thing with my Pit Harry. Tried to deal with it myself for the first few days before the vet visit where they nipped the rest off and gave him antibiotics to take. It took a lot longer to heal than I expected but it did heal and yes it would open up and spot bleed every now and then along the way and look swollen. Just try to keep him off of it and keep it clean. More than anything don’t allow him to lick it. That more than anything will cause infection. Dogs mouths are not as clean as many people think they are. As long as it’s not oozing puss, smelling funny and he’s not constantly favoring it he should be fine. If you see my dog running around on my one video, he running around like that again and he’d ended up losing his entire nail like lefty did. I’m sure he’ll be fine. Get some rest. It’ll soothe your worries some. Hope to meet you in Quartzsite this year. I’m friends with Bob Davis, Pam, and Sandy.
Thanks for that experience share... he's not favoring it and I'm wrapping it and limiting his walks - which I hate, but it's for his good. Boy this has been like 3 weeks we've been dealing with this :/
Thanks for the update David. Only you are going to know what’s best for Lefty’s paw. I know not being able to watch him every minute to make sure he’s not irritating it is probably driving you crazy. Be safe and looking forward to your next update.
I’m so sorry Lefty isn’t healing quickly, poor little guy 💕 I’d call that vet asap and tell them exactly what you said here. Lefty is probably stressed and missing you 💕 which doesn’t help. Please give us an update even if it’s crappy signal a lot of people care about you two. 🙏🏻
David, Have been thinking about you and Lefty and your adventure with the beet harvest. Not sure this 76 year old body could hold up for the whole thing. I will be in Quartzsite by the latter part of November and hope our paths will cross again in the desert. Take good care. Walk in Beauty, Don
Dave, I think you'll find the vet will need to compress the toe to express wound secretions (pus, lymph fluid, etc) to help the toe heal. Due to this being an extremity, the wound fluids collect and slow the healing process. Also, if you use hydrogen peroxide, do it sparingly, as it can damage tissue on edges of wounds.
We care about our pups so when they aren’t doing well they are definitely on our mind. Hoping the antibiotics kick in and Lefty is better soon. Take care and thanks for the update!
No need to apologize for video or especially Lefty injury. Hopefully you can get Lefty on the mend. After this you might want to try some type of booties for him. Keep toes paws protected. Blessings always for you n lefty 🙏
Thank you for the update. Just look after yourself and Lefty. I enjoy your videos, but your's and Lefty's health are more important right now. Take care, I will be waiting patently, take your time 😊❤
It was good to turn on my iPad and see your post. I think that you have been amazing to carry on to the end of harvest. Poor Lefty. Maybe the Vet will change the antibiotics (would antibiotic cream be useful?) and anyway he will have a chance to take a good look at that foot. Is there such a thing as boots for dogs? The Vet may have some ideas about the best way to protect the nail. Anyone who has a pet will totally understand how you are feeling. Sending best wishes to you and Lefty from an extremely wet and windy Northern Ireland 😊
Be proud of yourself putting yourself through such a change and stressful situation. We know you like routine. Good luck with pup and hope the vet helps❤
Sorry to hear that Lefty got hurt and is now on the get-better/get-worse rollercoaster. At least he can be seen by the vet for an update on Monday (10/23?). We’re all out here pulling for both of you!!! Was watching videos of a guy who bought land in Salida, CO, just South of your stompin’ grounds near Leadville. Seems like it will be too late/cold to stop there for more than a day, or so, on your way to Quartzsite. Take Good Care, Jim and Mary
Supposed to be a snowstorm coming in next week around Thursday so hope you and Jeff can get out before that comes. Hope poor Lefty can get on the mend, I feel so sorry for him.
Oh poor Lefty! Can you put a boot on that paw with the gauze? Might protect it a little better on walks if it's not healed yet. Hope it's ok. Good luck my friend I know how it feels to worry about our fur buddies. Give Lefty some scratches from Us.
For noon in dew claw or toe injury land, with very dirty environments. Antibiotics and blue or red adhesive bandages to cover wounds. Protective covering over them would be IV bags tied on with ribbon, covered with bread or ziplock bags and sealed with paper tape. That will keep wound dry thru mud, puddles or torrential rains/snow. Any and all bags should be removed before leaving “lefty” alone or it will be shredded. At least that’s how I managed to keep toe, pad, etc injuries dry with Rottweilers, Dutch Shepherds and Malinois.
Some Epsom salt soaks would help Lefty's toe. He's probably licking it a lot when you're gone at work. Toenails that have this much trauma heal slowly. I hope the vet will see him Monday.
Hi Dave, sorry that Lefty still has a toe problem. I wish I had some good advice regarding that other than maybe treating the toe with some Hydrogen Peroxide. I've used it in the past for superficial cuts and scrapes on my past dogs and even used it on the suture line for Lilly when she lost her leg. I just hope that Lefty wasn't chewing on it while you were working, dogs do weird stuff when they get stressed out. I'm sure you will get to the bottom of it, stay safe and looking forward to the videos you mentioned. Take care, both of you...
I love how you tell it exactly how it really is I'm 52 and been exhausted for 3 months from this big change . I lost my job suddenly now I'm really off grid but I feel pretty good everthing moving along
Ahh, the pros and cons of having pets. At least you've enjoyed the pros for a good while. Glad I checked out of pet drama as far as my own life, though it sucks seeing my siblings and kids go through their own pet/vet drama, big expenses with varying results, depression after pet deaths, and all the other downsides. But the Vegas line for how long it takes them to jump right back in with a new one, is about 5 weeks. Too bad Jeff had to bail, at least he must have made axle money and then some.
David. I surely hope all is better with Mr Lefty.. I hope the Vet will give him a shot of antibiotics and maybe vitamins.. Ive always heard dont clip their nails so short that they bleed. There is a blood clot agents you can use.. ask the vet. good luck to you and your supervisor.
In Billings Mt. 6 months to complete. I ran truck. Doubles. 132,000 pounds on ice and snow. We supposed to get $17 average per hour. Beet pads were on dirt. We were towed in and out because of 2 feet of mud.
The drivers had it easy compared to that. The trucks were able to drive in, loop around, and drive back out. They added the gravel on the sides that allowed them to loop... it used to be mud :/
Dave lefty must be scared stiff of going to the vet now because of his last two visits. If he has to go again ask the vet to numb his paw 🐾 before he messys with it. Just so lefty is at ease. It can't cost that much for the numbing injection. Stay positive buddy your making yours and his life so much better, we all know that 🚐🤟💯🐾🐾🐕👍
Nice to see you again David and everyone gets why you have not had a bunch of videos. Sure looks like the weather was decent for you. Take care of Lefty and we all know you do.
No apologies necessary David At least it was an update to let us know what was going on with Lefty for those of us that don't follow you on Instagram Keep looking up the end is near give Lefty a back scratch in an extra treat for me and we'll see you on your next upload 🙏✌️👍
I had basset hounds and when they injured a paw/nail out playing, they spent alot of time licking it, which kept it soft. So they would bleed some, but it kept getting better. Keep up with the antibiotics and he should heal up.
I owned an animal rescue and i used a product called. Tri care triple action wound treatment for dogs and horses. Aid wound cleaning, helps skin heal from cuts and soothes skin irritation.
Lfty is your son who never grows up. You take care of him and he takes care of you inhis way. I had a dog with an infected toe and we had to soak it in warm water and I think epsom salt. Also, don't let him lick it.
Make sure to keep that toe very clean and clean it often so the tissue can fill in but don't scrub off the new tissue. You might want to try a different antibiotic also.
I am behind on your videos and seeing this setback with Lucky has got me curious. I know this video is 2 weeks old and I missed when it happened so I was wondering if he has been wearing a cone while recovering from this injury? I am asking since you found the blood in the Ambo I was thinking that if he was not wearing a cone that maybe Lucky got to chewing on it and made it bleed himself. Do you happen to have cameras in the Ambo so you can check to see if he caused that himself?
No, I didn't have a cone - he was healing up well until he reimbursed it. I should have been keeping it wrapped - once I did that, it healed up fast :)

Thanks for the update David, praying Lefty heals quickly.

We'll be down there this winter Don :)
All was done as good as you could. Your mind was else where. Keep doing how you need to do things.
Thanks for the update and the advice for us Older folks before we try the beat harvest.
Glad it is almost finished. Sounds like a tiring day. Hope Lefty gets better soon. Take care. 😊
Thanks for the update on yourself and Lefty. Hopefully you'll get down into Sunny warm climate and be able to take a nice rest.

Worrying about Lefty to such an extreme means you’re a fantastic owner. He’s your best friend! This the way it should be.
Thank you :) I've got him healing up now :)

Look on youtube at the veterinary secrets- he has information about wound care. He might hage something about the nail issue
I was going to suggest youtube.com/@VeterinarySecrets?si=25WujtmU5rebcqnG as well hes really helped us alot

I think you have a good plan getting him to the vet and keeping it covered outside, may need to cover inside in case of licking also.
I would besoaking it in baking soda water.Hope Lefty heals up soon.
Oh no!!! I feel sick to hear about Lefty!!!! 🥺😥. I'll be praying 🙏🙏 for him!! Please tell us what happens Monday at the Vet !!!!!!
Glad you got time to post a video. Beet harvest sounds like a good way to make a buck. How long were you there working.
We've been here since Sep 20th, and have worked 14 days so far... almost done!
How is your Lefty? Hopefully the vet has good news.
Are you going to catch up with Jeff later?
Yes we'll be seeing Jeff down the road :)
Are pets are family, they can't help themselves like we can.
Nice to see you again David and everyone gets why you have not had a bunch of videos. Sure looks like the weather was decent for you. Take care of Lefty and we all know you do.

Looking forward to the summary of your sugar beet harvesting experience. You must be exhausted. Was it worth the trip?
It was a good overall experience once I got into a rhythm. I learned that I can endure!
Are you using a topical antibiotic like Neosporin also? I would.
I hadn't even thought of that. I will put some on - thank you!
Make sure to keep that toe very clean and clean it often so the tissue can fill in but don't scrub off the new tissue. You might want to try a different antibiotic also.
Hey go buy lefty some kids socks to wear buy a 8 pk and you can wash them.❤
Hey Dave and Lefty.
I am behind on your videos and seeing this setback with Lucky has got me curious. Where are you guys?
We were in Hallock Minnesota for the harvest. We finished and left there 3 days ago to get away from the artic weather that was headed there!
@@TheCampulanceMan glad to hear that y'all are going where it's warmer. I hope that Lefty is doing better.

Update on Lefty?
Is Lefty ok
He has started to grow a new nail and I keep his paw wrapped all the time - he's much improved :)
Like your videos. Take care

Do you have confidence in the vet? Perhaps you need a different opinion.
They're the only option in this area so I have to trust them :)
Try tea tree oil, works wonders. Hope it all works out for him, must be distressing for you.❤
My nurse friend suggested that you soak Lefty's foot in Epsom salts.
