Started playing snooker around 6 weeks ago when i brought a que. Did play pool 20 odd years ago and was quite good but quit playing completely. Been watching your videos etc and have ex-pro player as brother to guide me forward. As of Wednesday I achieved a 34 break in practice setups.. over the moon and feel in time I will hit that 50 break..
Interesting about using side spin (running side) with a ball on the cushion, do you think a tiny amount of spin is transferred from the cue ball to the object ball, making it hug the cushion? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on cupping, basically when a ball hits the cushion at pace, the angle changes because the rubber cushion indents and wants to throw it back the way it came, like when I play a double hard, the ball straightens out and can even come back the way it was sent.

The cushion thing, I find just cueing down ever so slightly helps too. (Raising your bridge slightly off the cushion) you take the cushion out of play, but you need to be wary of not putting accidental side or screw on the ball

Personally, for straight shots I don't use the reflection since that's hard to see from far away. I like the very bottom of the object ball since it's always in the center and easier to see from far away.
I just recently played snooker for the very first time and I found it so difficult to consistently pot the balls (my highest break was 12 🙈), tho I got some cracking pots but every single shot did require 100% of concentration and after 1,5 hour of playing I was quite exhausted and was hardly able to pot a ball… who knows maybe if I had watched this video earlier on I would have done better… 😀
Perhaps you're also just not used to a big table. I'm decent at pool but when I first got on the big table my mind was playing tricks on me, when you get down on the shot you lose some perspective and your mind makes you aim incorrectly because you're simply not used to the distances. Once you spend a few hours on it you'll find it gets easier as your brain recalibrates. I feel you on it feeling exhausting though!
@@jama211 yes very true, it takes some time to get used for that distance and even the pockets compared to pool are much narrower, when you hit cushion on pool table with the object ball there’s still a decent chance that it will go in the pocket, in contrast the snooker table won’t ‘forgive’ you even a slight hit on the cushion as the object ball finishes on the jaw and not in the pocket… and I found especially difficult shots to middle pockets from the area around the pink spot, most of them I was overcutting so yeah apparently it requires far more practise…
Bro, I have been playing snooker for good 5 years, my highest break is 30, trust me it's the most difficult game. It's not as easy as the videos. Keep practicing..

This is a video I enjoy the most out of all of them. I really relate to the "eyes deceiving you" thing. I seem to miss the pocket to the right every time, so when I aim more to the right it looks wrong but I pot it!? But how much to compensate for all the different shots you play is where it gets complicated. Maybe you could do a video just focusing on how to fine tune this missalignment and bogus image our eyes can give us.
When i Hit the Shot, i have no control on the stick, which causes me to miss even if i am aiming for the right position.. How can i improve my stick (cue) controlling?
1-Slow and Smooth Backswing with acceleration 2-Pause And 3-Don't hit too tight 4-Gripping not too tight ! Apply these things Hopefully you will get better Results THANK you!
One very interesting topic to a new video: how the pro players knows exactly where aim (the exact aim spot in the object ball) in long pots. They not even looks to the object ball sometimes, they just goes to the table and shot (and pot the ball). How? Where they are aiming? There's some trick? 🤔
Its common for players who have played for decades to not really "aim" any shot except the thinnest of cuts. Feel takes over and the "aim" part is pretty automatic on most shots and the players are really only focusing on hitting the cue ball with pinpoint precision and speed control.
@@trainedtiger But I see this behavior even in younger players, who have recently entered the pro circuit (and are not old enough to have played for decades). So I assume there must be some golden hint for us mere mortals. 😅
@@sirisoj 50,000 shots a year for 20 years, or 250,000 shots a year for four years is still a million shots of practice. The guys these days can afford to practice 8-10 hours a day, the prize purses are way bigger to make it a profitable venture, and the access to equipment and technology is way better than it used to be.
The pro plays the line of the shot standing up. There is no secret aiming technique. It's all about placing the cue(both the front and back of the cue ) on that imaginary line and pushing through straight with centre line striking. How to do that requires one to sight properly first,align the body properly and then walk in properly and finally cue along straight. There are a lot of subtleties but over time and using the HAMB technique, it gets ingrained into the pro's pre-shot routine. Please believe me- There is no secret aiming technique !!!
It's a game u used to thoroughly enjoy as a teen, but here, in Jamaica, snooker tables are few and far between, so I have not layed in 50 years, and have to watch, instead
Snooker is difficult and frustrating, probably because most players have small inconsistencies, but mainly because as you say at 2:30, your eyes can play tricks on you. Each shot is guesswork, and practice makes you better at guessing - but if your eyes are telling you lies, then you have no chance.
So love the way you get so excited when your trick shots work!

The highest break I ever had was a 64 where the cue ball hardly passed the middle pockets. Gently good cueing is the answer.
I worked out the side spin on cushion shot years ago when I was first starting, thought I was dead clever lol still not that good a player now tho 😂
