Amber and Rob...God continue to Bless you both. I've mentioned this before, I'm a 75 year old man and I feel honored to have lived during the times of "real" music, meaning sing your songs, no auto-tune, play your own instruments, etc. During the course of my life, I've been privy either seeing or hearing (live) most of the bands and singers you feature. Every time you post, it always brings a smile to my face. Sounds weird, but you both are "old souls" music wise and I truly appreciate you both.
I'm 72 and agree with everything you said. Jay and Amber make me sing, dance, air guitar, and smile everyday! Like you I've been to a jillion concerts, my first one was LED ZEPPELIN in 1970......oh those precious memories.🤗❤️✌️
What an awesome message!! To you and the other 70-somethings that replied, God bless you all!!! My youth is long gone (I’m 46), and almost no one my age that I know is still into music, it (evidently) is easy to give up on passion for music as you get older. The fact that you all appreciate Rob and Amber, and REAL music as it was makes you all AMAZING!! Much love from Boston!!
All of James Taylor's songs are great but my favorite is "Sweet Baby James" a song he came up with on a road trip to see his little nephew who was named after him.
Interesting fact about this song: the lyric "a holy host of others standing 'round me" refers to the Beatles, who were recording in the same studio while James Taylor recorded this. In fact, Paul McCartney played bass on this song (he's credited on the album), and George Harrison provided (uncredited) backing vocals. Also, as a Carolina girl myself, this has been one of my favorites for a very long time. You can't go wrong with James Taylor!
That is true for the original 1968 recording, but this is a later version recorded in LA in 1976 for his Greatest Hits album, with Leland Sklar on bass.
Paul McCartney didn't play in this particular track. The original was more acoustic and was recorded in England. This track was recorded in L.A. and eland Sklar played Bass on this one.
James spent a lot of time in North Carolina living in the Chapel Hill area. James' father was an associate professor of medicine at the University Of North Carolina. James was born in Boston, MA. He has ties in both areas.
Thank you for reacting to this song. My father died to pancreatic cancer last March. We had him set up in a bed our living room and as the time was drawing near we played his favorites songs on shuffle. This was the song playing as he took his last breath. I was introduced to James Taylor's music through him when I was younger, listening to this song will always be a doubled sided sword for me. "Dark and silent late last night, think I might have heard the highway calling". Love you, old man.
Sorry to hear that buddy, my condolences. Isn't it amazing how music can touch a person's soul in ways only they can understand ❤. Hope the music helps you along the next part of your life's journey.
Great choices! I'm a MONSTER J.D. Souther fan. I'm also a Livingston Taylor fan as well. If you're not familiar listen to his album "Ink". It is a collection of cover songs like "Baker Street" "Hallelujah,I Love Her So," "Never Can Say Goodbye" These are songs I always wanted to hear JT sing.
I'm 75 also, but didn't get to see them live. Well said. There was so much great music out there when we were growing up, we couldn't experience it all. I'm still discovering music I missed back then.
Carolina girl here!! I am a teacher and our fourth graders learn about our state. When I taught fourth grade I played Carolina in my Mind everyday. I hope I shared the love of James Taylor to my students!
My dad was at school at Chapel Hill, and Mom a nurse...and they talked about having dinner with Ike, who was James' father the Dean of Meds. They had the coolest most-modern house perhaps in the state. Concrete and glass, among the trees. They are a state treasure.
And James' mother, Gertrude Woodard, was originally from my hometown, Salisbury, Mass; She met Dr. Taylor while he was a med student at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Taylor was also an orthopedic surgeon. My father told me a story about being selected as an orthopedic resident at UNC to repair James Taylor’s finger injury
I have loved James Taylor for decades and it’s wonderful to see new generations discover how talented a singer/songwriter he was, is and will always be. He’s one of the best ever.❤️
This is my favorite James Taylor song. So very good! If you haven't heard "Sweet Baby James" yet, you must! You will love it. PS - that's George Harrison singing backup on "Carolina"! Beautiful!
Y'all might want to try reacting to James Taylor and then-wife Carly Simon live at their home in 1977 singing Taylor's 1971 song "You Can Close Your Eyes." It's beautiful.
Another great song from James Taylor is Mockingbird which he sings with Carly Simon. He married her when he was 24 and they were married for 11 years and have two children who are both musicians. It’s a great duet.
James Taylor’s voice literally gives me the chills. Love him so much. Here are a few fun facts: he was married to Carly Simon and they recorded the song Mockingbird together which is awesome. Carole King wrote You’ve Got a Friend; they were good friends and toured together. On this song, there are a couple of Beatles playing instruments and singing harmonies -Paul and George! James Taylor was signed to their record label at the time. A few more of my favorites are Your Smiling Face, Shower the People( Carly sings background), Mexico, How Sweet It Is (Carly sings background), Everyday, Country Road, Up on the Roof, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely- to get you started.
You could pretty much put on most any JT album as you boat around or road trip around and be totally wrapped up in his voice, tasty guitar and lyrics that seem to reach from his experiences that become yours. My personal favorite song is “The Secret Of Life” that I always think is the way we should all be but it’s not so easy. “Sweet Baby James” for sure. “Mexico”, “That Lonesome Road”- love songs? “You Can Close Your Eyes”, “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight”, “your Smiling Face”… yes he will always be in rotation on my list. I really think you should listen to Kenny Rankin- an amazing guitarist and such an amazing vocalist. His voice sounds almost like an instrument he plays. He interprets songs- jazzy feel- his version of the Beatles song “Blackbird” is a masterpiece. I love his twists on wonderful standards such as “When Sunny Gets Blue”
i believe the story goes that while he was in England to record his first album, he was extremely homesick and lonely, and that's where the inspiration and lyrics came from. he was trying to comfort himself while being so far from home.
So I'm in Brazil, which we loved and spent several years focused on learning Portuguese at a fairly high level because, duh, we were in BRAZIL, but, finally, we had a bunch of Brazilian friends that wanted an English "class" once a week. So we walk in one of the first few meetings and this song was playing, because they knew we were from Chapel Hill. And it was just one of those days, however much you love your adopted country, and I start bawling, absolutely homesick, which this song captures perfectly. The host felt so bad...
Thank you for listening to him. He and John Denver inspired me to be an amateur folk singer in Folk Houses in the Philippines. You would’ve loved those times, we would folk house hop, meet with friends….sigh
Discovered by the Beatles and signed to their label, Taylor has inspired countless singer songwriter guitar players. His 90s albums are every bit as good as his 70s.
Yeah, this song is about that period when he was in the U.K. recording in the same studio as The Beatles. "With a Holy host of others standing round me (that's a reference to The Beatles) still I'm on the dark side of the moon"
It's easy to see why you guys are the #1 "reaction channel" : you are so sensitive to the music and express in words what most of us are feeling. Well done and keep it up.
Best concert overall I've ever been to was James Taylor in Hamilton, Canada (my hometown) around 2017. My very favourite singer-songwriter was Dan Fogelberg; I never got to see him in concert, but am very glad I did see James...
Can you imagine how big this was when I went to the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1983? This was our anthem and still holds so many memories. Great choice!
Well I went to a university right down the road during that time, but I growed up in North Carolina 😂😂 The best live performance I ever heard was James Taylor singing this song in Charlotte. Quite a tear jerker for the natives.
James Taylor was loved by everyone, he has a talent for writing his own songs & singing songs written by others. I loved it when he sang “ Upon The Roof, “ Shower The People “ & so many more. He was very handsome with a full head of dark hair when he was young. 👀 LoL! 👍👏👏👏♥️♥️🌹
During college, I went to a JT concert w/friends. Someone there told us where James & the band walk to the bus after the show. You can see them up close and maybe chat w/them etc. So, we went there to wait for them. The band came out and were friendly and talking a bit. Then JT came over. He was so handsome, tall and tan (like that song goes) and had beautiful blue eyes. I got so nervous I started giggling & couldn't stop. He got a big kick out of it, called the band back over--then he winked at me. I have been to many JT concerts, -but that was one of my faves.
James Taylor wrote this song partly in France and partly in England when he was homesick for his home state. His voice, aucustic guitar, and the steel guitar in the background make this song sound very perfect for that part of the country.
I grew up in upstate NY, and when I moved to North Carolina in the summer of 1995, I made a mix tape to listen to on the drive down, and this was the first song on the tape! Almost 30 years later, this song still brings back wonderful memories of that day! 🥰
Among the best singer songwriters of all time. A fantastic tune ! Other out of this world songs from James are Mexico, Country Road, Secret O’ Life,Shower The People, and So Far Away, just a very few of his best songs.
Another outstanding version of this song is by Allison Krauss & Jerry Douglas, live version, in a concert celebration of James Taylor. James was in the audience.
I'm reminded of my daughter and I singing this years ago on our way home from her basketball practice! She's now a mother of two beautiful daughters! Sweet memories!!!
Here are a few more of James' songs you'll love: Something in the way she moves: Country Road; Steamroller; Sweet Baby James; How Sweet it is to be loved by you; Mexico and, probably my favorite, Shower the people. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey into great music.
I was born and raised in Chicago. While serving in countries around the globe, we settled in South Carolina 40 years ago. I used to play this song when I was stationed in Korea. Wife and kids couldn't accompany me and remained in South Carolina. Again, thanks for the memories. Good review. Keep up the good work.
I just saw sweet baby James last year. Such a calming, Mister Rogers experience. So softly spoken with a story for every song. Also, you were reminded how old the crowd was when we hit the stairs when it was time to leave. Thank God there wasn't a fire, lol.
I'm from North Carolina, lived here all my life, and I really love Mr. Taylor's tribute to my home place. It's a beautiful place from the Mountains in the west, to the Beaches in the south and east.
Guaranteed to make you smile . . . James Taylor & Carly Simon let loose! Mockingbird LIVE 1979 No Nukes concert. Crowd erupts when barefoot Carly bounds onto the stage to join her hubby James (1972-1983) in this fun, rocking duet. Sax solo sends it into overdrive as they dance, vamp and radiate their affection.
Steamroller Blues is my favorite James Taylor song, especially the live that he did for the BBC in 1970. It's surprising and awesome, but his personality in that video makes me laugh every time.
You nailed it when you said he brings a warmth with his voice. Yeah, he and John Denver really had that going on. Gordon Lightfoot had that quality too, but his catalog is so huge that the bigger hits sort of eclipse the mellower and warmer tunes like, "Song for a Winter's Night" or "Cotton Jenny". Great reaction guys! Love your channel... especially when I need to smile 🙂
I was station in Germany, in the Army back in the 70's. I am from SouthCarolina and i just got over there i was lonely, first time away from home. When i heard that song i cried like a baby.
Back in the day, our fathers shared emotion through songs. James Taylor was my dads favorite. Older men here know how our fathers rarely ever shared personal things.
I grew up in southeast Oklahoma in the hills. When I was out making my fortune, I'd hear this song and it would take me back home. I just changed Car-O-line-a to Ok-la-ho-ma.
Amber & Jay, here are some other good James Taylor songs to react to: "Your Smiling Face", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "Mexico", "Shower the People", "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight", and "Long Ago and Far Away".
James Taylor is simply a national treasure. His beautiful melodies, harmonies and descriptive lyrics, i.e. "hey baby the sky's on fire" evoke memories of gorgeous sunsets I've enjoyed over the years. Whenever I feel the need to chill out, James Taylor is always on my playlist. So nice to see a whole new generation of music lovers appreciate one of my favorite singer/songwriters!
I've seen James Taylor live 5 times, the first back in the 70's with Carole King. Even the last time I saw him 2 years ago his voice was almost as good as it was 45 years ago. One of his best songs in my view is Copperline and Up on the Roof.
Why do you say "had"? The only one that's passed in that group mentioned is Gordon Lightfoot-all the others are still alive, and still writing and performing.
❤ James Taylor is the best so s silky smooth and the harmony so fantastic is our live at the Beacon theater in LA. It’s phenomenal you need to hear shower. The people and up on the roof is great.
JT is an amazingly talented artist, and I love this song! It always makes me imagine taking a leisurely cruise down a country road on a perfect warm & sunny day.
Growing up, in the late 70s when I was a toddler, I have memories of James Taylor songs playing during key happy memories, which are unique beautiful moments among a lot of confusion and sadness. This song and Sweet Baby James especially. Most likely from a tape my parents had of his greatest hits (funny you mentioned Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan because those were played too). Anyway I feel so many bittersweet feelings come up when I hear James Taylor. It reminds me of the love that was around me despite the other difficulties going on. ❤
Such a relaxing classic song. James is a legend and was even a special guest on The Voice. Imagine being vocally trained by him. Insane! I do suggest "Wandering."
Fun fact, James Taylor was first signed by The Beatles record label, Apple Records, and this song appeared on his first album. I heard him interviewed where he said he was auditioning for a producer at Apple Records in London and had no idea it was The Beatles company until the producer picked up the phone and asked if any of The Beatles were in the building, he wanted them to hear this guy James Taylor. He said a short time later George and Ringo walked in and listened to his demo and sighed him right then.
Sweet Baby James, Shower the People, How Sweet It Is (to Be Loved by You) and Your Smiling Face would all be great future James Taylor reactions. I think you'll like them all!
This song is really special to me. I currently live in Raleigh, NC and when I was interviewing for jobs, it cam down to South or North Carolina. I said a prayer and this song came on the radio and it still brings tears to my eyes. You really need to listen to "Sweet Baby James". I know you will love it.

Country Road is another good one by him
Great post
James Taylor is a national treasure.
Proud to claim him as a native son! Great reaction!
All of James Taylor's songs are great but my favorite is "Sweet Baby James" a song he came up with on a road trip to see his little nephew who was named after him.
... and rock a bye sweet baby James ...
@@davidbordonaro1631 Also my favorite!
I second that! Amber and Jay, please react to "Sweet Baby James." You will love it!
A whole hearted third! Sweet Baby James is an absolutely awesome song!
If you liked his Carolina song... try " Country Road"
James Taylor will ALWAYS hit you in the feels good!!!
Yes. Taylor songs are soft and soothing.

I’m so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful memory. Thank you for sharing. ❤
I’m so sorry for your great loss. 😢
So sorry for your loss 🙏
Sorry to hear that buddy, my condolences. Isn't it amazing how music can touch a person's soul in ways only they can understand ❤. Hope the music helps you along the next part of your life's journey.
Love J.T.'s "Your Smiling Face",and duet with J.D. Souther "Her Town Too".
Never get tired of listening to James Taylor.
Yes!!! SMILING Face!!!!!
Sweet Baby James the lullaby he wrote for his nephew
Son of his late brother, Alex...
I'm 75 also, but didn't get to see them live. Well said. There was so much great music out there when we were growing up, we couldn't experience it all. I'm still discovering music I missed back then.
James Taylor and Carly Simon on Mockingbird would be a good reaction video.
Live!!!!!!
I get a smile a wide as Carly's 😁 (if that's even possible) every time I watch that video
Carolina girl here!! I am a teacher and our fourth graders learn about our state. When I taught fourth grade I played Carolina in my Mind everyday. I hope I shared the love of James Taylor to my students!
James Taylor's father was Dean of Medicine at UNC Chapel Hill NC. His father had 5 children from his first wife and all five became musicians.
@@mthivier I guess he lives up in the Berkshires now, and calls Massachusetts home. Beautiful country. Smart and laid-back like Jamey.
Dr. Taylor was also an orthopedic surgeon. My father told me a story about being selected as an orthopedic resident at UNC to repair James Taylor’s finger injury
Try I've seen fire And rain James taylor
Yay! He is from my city, Chapel Hill, NC. When I'm going to work every day, I drive over the James Taylor bridge.
I know that bridge! I used to teach at the elementary school that he and his siblings attended.
I have loved James Taylor for decades and it’s wonderful to see new generations discover how talented a singer/songwriter he was, is and will always be. He’s one of the best ever.❤️
Another vote for Sweet Baby James, a wonderful song from James Taylor.
Yes, please! One of his best. A great lullaby.
This is my favorite James Taylor song. So very good! If you haven't heard "Sweet Baby James" yet, you must! You will love it.
PS - that's George Harrison singing backup on "Carolina"! Beautiful!
This was the 1976 version. George Harrison wasn't singing in this one
@@andrew348

Great George Harrison fact! Love'em both.

"Mexico" is another good one from James Taylor ❤😊
Oh, this song and his voice. Brings a tear to your eye.

James Taylor was huge back in the day. Massive.
Carly and James were the music power couple of the 70's
The line “A holy host of others standing round me” refers to the Beatles.

Sweet baby James is a must. Love JT's voice. Thank you for this.
James Taylor is the best.❤❤❤❤
Such a pure voice.
@@leopresnell8653I prefer the original faster version.
Steamroller Blues is my favorite James Taylor song, especially the live that he did for the BBC in 1970. It's surprising and awesome, but his personality in that video makes me laugh every time.
I'm 65 and it's so enjoyable to see the younger generation love these timeless classics like I did the first time I heard them ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank You!
This is my favorite James Taylor song. The entire album, sublime.
One of my favorite JT songs! You could just play one of his Greatest Hits records from beginning to end, and you'll love each and every song!
LOVE James Taylor! Many of my 70’s memories entwined in his lyrics. Thanks for your great reaction!❤
Sigh. Always makes me take a deep, cleansing breath and take in those beautiful harmonies. ❤
I was station in Germany, in the Army back in the 70's. I am from SouthCarolina and i just got over there i was lonely, first time away from home. When i heard that song i cried like a baby.
You would LOVE to hear shower the people from James Taylor. One of my favorites from him.
Back in the day, our fathers shared emotion through songs. James Taylor was my dads favorite. Older men here know how our fathers rarely ever shared personal things.
James Taylor is perfect campfire music.
🎵💕✌️😊👍💕🎵
I love, love James Taylor!!!
This is among my favorites as I’m from South Carolina. He’s right, Carolina stays with you for a lifetime!
This is another voice that defined my childhood - I want to live in his voice...
So glad you're revisiting James Taylor. Walking Man, Her Town Too, and Shower the People by James are excellent as well.
I grew up in southeast Oklahoma in the hills. When I was out making my fortune, I'd hear this song and it would take me back home. I just changed Car-O-line-a to Ok-la-ho-ma.
My favorite James Taylor song is whatever one I just finished listening to, regardless of which one that was. All of his music is that good.
I’ve always loved this song. James has the most beautiful voice
Amber & Jay, here are some other good James Taylor songs to react to: "Your Smiling Face", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "Mexico", "Shower the People", "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight", and "Long Ago and Far Away".
Loved Rob's expression when JT sings 'Can't you just feel the moonshine' . 71 YO In the the UK loves you two and your family-God Bless
James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Carol King, Bonnie Raitt were all awesome writers Performers and just genuine people that had great talent.
Why do you say "had"? The only one that's passed in that group mentioned is Gordon Lightfoot-all the others are still alive, and still writing and performing.
This is the music I listen to when driving. Such an easy artist to eat up the miles with.
Everything James Taylor is Golden. He rocks.
Have you heard him sing Steamroller? Or better yet. Hime and Carley Simon singing Mockingbird.
❤
James Taylor is the best so s silky smooth and the harmony so fantastic is our live at the Beacon theater in LA.
James singing this live is my favourite version - please listen to that one!
Such a relaxing classic song. James is a legend and was even a special guest on The Voice. Imagine being vocally trained by him. Insane! I do suggest "Wandering."
Sweet Baby James and this song are my favorites of his. 'Blossom' is another. He has so many, it's hard to pick!
James doesn’t only perform songs…
He writes and sings ‘warm hugs’.❤
Fun fact, James Taylor was first signed by The Beatles record label, Apple Records, and this song appeared on his first album. I heard him interviewed where he said he was auditioning for a producer at Apple Records in London and had no idea it was The Beatles company until the producer picked up the phone and asked if any of The Beatles were in the building, he wanted them to hear this guy James Taylor. He said a short time later George and Ringo walked in and listened to his demo and sighed him right then.
For sure one of James's most iconic songs. I love it❤
My favorite from him….gorgeous song.
