This song was written by Paul McCartney. His mother, whose name was Mary, died of cancer when he was 14 and some years later, in the sixties, when he was having a lot of turmoil in his life, he had a dream in which she came to him and told him that everything was going to be ok, just let it be.
That is one of the reasons I love this song so much. I lost my mother when I was 14 as well and for years whenever I dreamed about her it was always a nightmare. One night when I was in my early 20's I had a dream about her where we met at a coffee shop and just talked for hours. I haven't had a bad dream about her since. It was very similar to this song in which she just told me that things would be alright. Great song and one that really resonates with me.
My brother recently passed. He was only 51. This song helps me deal with the pain and depression of losing my best friend and only brother. Thanks fellas.
Let It Be is purely a Paul McCartney song. He was inspired by a dream about his late mother. Paul's voice was never better. Iconic organ from Billy Preston and an amazingly beautiful guitar solo by George Harrison. Ringo's drumming, as always, is on point; I love the tone of his drums. The song itself is an anthem and a philosophy, a rare combination. I lost my beloved mom a little over two years ago. You don't have to forget or give up something to let it be but you can accept a loss/situation and try to move on.
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I know exactly how that feels. I lost mine on Valentine's Day 2003. The pain never goes away. It gets a little easier as time goes by, but not by much. Hang in there.
Saw McCartney live in Indianapolis in 2002 and sang this along with him and 17,000 of his "closest friends." Yes, there were tears running down my face, as well!
Dylan introduced them to pot around '65, and they got introduced to acid in '66. Good to see you so moved by the song, Hollywood. Paul wrote this after he dreamed of his late mother coming to him in a dream, while he was dealing with the heartbreak of the problems going on within the band. She told him to "Let it Be", and that everything would eventually work out ❤
This version, the album version, has always been my favorite....my son's band played this to close out his funeral...it evokes a whole different vibe in me now.
So sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing that moving memory. I hope you don't mind me highjacking my reply for a bit of a (now) humorous story: My brother sort of got that in reverse. Our Mom died suddenly in 1994. At the time my brother was a drummer for a bar band in San Diego. He assured them he would be ok to play that night. But at one point they unthinkingly launched into Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here," heh. He played through tears, and accepted their profuse apologies afterwards!
This song will always remind me of my great Aunt. It was her favorite and was played at her funeral more than 20 years ago. She was my age (now) when she died. So young! Wow. Yeah anytime I really listen to this the tears pour. When I saw him perform this live! Omg! Truly this song is a message for peace and to just trust we will always be okay. Merry Christmas y’all. 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Notice the drumming in this song by Ringo. Next level at the time. The guitar work and use of instruments in this song show how they continued to change and grow through the years. Many bands could not change, but the Beatles usually led in many ways.
This was a song Paul wrote whilst the Beatles were having problems.and Paul was distraught. Paul's deceased mother, Mary, came to him in a dream and told him to 'Let it be'
My first concert was the Wings Over America, tour of Paul McCartney and Wings, in the Kingdome on the floor, I was 17, Paul, Linda, and Denny Lane sat on stools at the edge of the stage and played some acoustic songs, Blackbird was one and then it was just Paul…and he opened with Let It Be, and you could’ve heard a pin drop after the initial recognition of the song, and a huge rush went through the Kingdome.
Before the matching suits and before the Beatles became the Beatles, the Beatles were more like a delinquent subculture group called the Teddy Boys. It was their managers and producers that wanted them to soften up their image and make them more appealing to a broader audience. Supposedly Bob Dylan introduced them to Grass. I think it was probably Little Richard when they shared a dressing room in Hamburg, Germany. It was a dentist who later on introduced them to acid and music changed by leaps and bounds. The Beatles are credited for creating at least ten music genres
Back in 1989 I had the pleasure of experiencing Sir Paul McCartney sing this live, along with 20,000 other fans. I can tell you I'm not a religious person but that evening we all were in church.
You two have so grown on me. Such characters, but still so dedicated and devoted to your music. And your friendship shows itself so well, it's endearing. Great song and review.
It's just about his mother (passed when he was young) and how he still takes comfort from her during tough times. It is universally applicable and that's what makes it so great. It means all of those things you guys talked about. I saw you tear up at the "when the night is cloudy.." line. I was with you. That verse is the crux of it.
The angelic harmonies entering at 9:11lend a mystical quality to the song. Billy Preston's entry on organ at 9:50 takes the tune to church. For some magical reason, this arrangement provokes an emotional response. Brilliant!
You fellas should watch the Get Back Documentary. It shows the entire creation of the Let it be album. Writing fourteen songs in two weeks. It's definitely worth the watch.
For me, the craziest thing about the Beatles is that they explored so many types of music in such a short amount of time compared to other artists. Their career was kind of brief, but their creativity just went for days.
The Beatles were an English rock band from Liverpool who recorded hundreds of songs during their career. The group's "main catalogue"-songs released between 1962 and 1970-consists of 213 songs (four of which exist in different versions): 188 originals and 25 covers. Sgt. Pepper topped the UK charts for 23 consecutive weeks, with a further four weeks at number one in the period through to February 1968.[210] With 2.5 million copies sold within three months of its release,[211] Sgt. Pepper's initial commercial success exceeded that of all previous Beatles albums.[212] It sustained its immense popularity into the 21st century while breaking numerous sales records.[213] In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked Sgt. Pepper at number one on its list of the greatest albums of all time.[163] Wikipedia.
Smokey, I totally understand how you feel about your cat. Two weeks ago I had to put my cat down and she was only 3 years old and she got really sick. I'm so sorry for your loss.😢
I associate this with the funeral of my maternal grandfather 20 years ago, as it was played during the service. Also, my parents got married the very same day John Lennon was shot and killed in New York, just over 43 years ago. The cycle of life, death, and rebirth is a mysterious thing.
This is absolutely my favourite Beatles song (followed very closely by While my guitar gently weeps). It's just a perfectly constructed and performed piece of music, the Beatles at the height of their power. As others have also said, it's sung by Paul and about his mother and accepting things and moving along, putting your past behind you.
I think you should do “A Day In The Life”, “Helter Skelter”, “Eleanor Rigby”, “Strawberry Fields”, and “Here There And Everywhere” by The Beatles. It will give you a little inkling of how diverse their music was. They are impossible to pigeonhole into any narrow category because they didn’t stick to just one genre of music.
The Beatles came to the US in February. By 3 months later, British managers made all their bands get Beatle hair cuts, suits, and act. The Animals came that summer, The Stones, and Herman's Hermits that fall. Edie Brickell (EEEEdie) She had the song "What I am is what I am" in the 90s.
Oh and John and Yoko never ever performed "Let it Be" because it's Paul's song, but yes recorded when the Beatles were still a group, but very soon after broke up
This song isn't just about "world" peace, it's about peace, period. It's about staying in your lane and chilling out with the drama. The young girl who was killed on the cross country trip by her boyfriend had a "let it be" tattoo. It brought me back to the song, and gave me a glimmer of hope that a youngster would find meaning in something decades past. Iconic, indeed.
Dylan introduced them to WEED in 1964, and in 1965 the Dentist of John and George, during a dinner party were dosed LSD as a surprise in their coffee. Ringo joined their LSD club a few months later and Paul, after a year, gave in, and got in trouble when a journalist asked him if he ever did LSD, he told them the truth and preferred they didn't report it , saying it was their responsibility to not advertise that fact. They would be responsible for giving their fans the "drug" image. During a dream, Paul's mother who passed 12 years earlier from cancer, came to him and told him to put down his problems and relax, or let them be.
He actually took his first Acid trip in December of 1965 with Tara Browne at Tara's house. Tara didn't indulge so as to guide Paul if needs be. Tara's wife Nicki spent the evening engrossed in an art book she had. Tara was also with Paul during the Boxing Day moped accident when he wrecked his bike, split his lip and eyebrow and broke his tooth in two.
Morning guys! Ive heard this song many times at work and other places but not in my headphones til today. It touched my heart hearing it this way,in a new way🙂 thanks for sharing this❤️🤓
The song’s meaning according to Paul McCartney ‘The Liverpool legend explaned: "I had a dream in the Sixties where my mum who died came to me in a dream and was reassuring me, saying: 'It's gonna be OK. Just let it be...'"
Eternal Classic. This song dropped when I was three years old or thereabouts. I remember hearing it playing on the radio at the Dairy Queen my father took us to after church one Sunday morning. The "Mother Mary" line stuck out for me at the time when I was learning church stories and such. The 2007 jukebox musical film, Across The Universe, used a powerful gospel version of "Let It Be" to highlight it's dramatization of some of the social strife experienced in the US in the 1960's. Check it out when you can.
John Riley, a dentist acquaintance of John and Cynthia Lennon, George Harrison and his wife, Pattie Boyd. At a dinner party attended by Lennon and Harrison and their partners in March 1965, Riley had laced their coffee with LSD, providing the two Beatles with their first experience of the drug.
That was a tough choice to have to make. Both incredible songs musically and lyrically. Both have brought comfort to countless people in difficult times for over half a century. So glad we still have both Pauls, as well as Art and Ringo. RIP John and George.
You were very close with Rainbow! Rainbow's Richie Blackmore was a founder of Deep Purple and played in that band with Coverdale. This is an amazing song, but the Beatles had so many bangers. The song is about the approaching split of the Beatles, and Paul being visited by his dead mother in a dream, saying "just let it go, things will be all right" - but I like your interpretation. Sorry to hear about the pets - they're family and deserve to be grieved.
This was a great live, thanks guys! you could do an entire week or two or three of just really great Beatles covers, it’s truly remarkable how much great music they put out those four crazy dudes... And earlier on your podcast you were talking about Helter Skelter, it comes up from time to time with you guys and I always think to tell you this story but never got around to it… so the first time I ever heard Helter skelter was from Pat Benatar, I loved it and assumed it was her song… couple years later Mötley Crüe put it on their album Shout at the Devil and I remember thinking man these guys are awesome I can’t believe they’re covering Pat Benatar! A few years later I’m trying to tell my mom how cool Mötley Crüe is that they’re not just all gimmick they have great songs and they cover cool people she was just cracking up…didn’t mind bursting my little bubble and informing me that it was actually a Beatles song lol… in the end we had to agree that both Pat Benatar and Mötley Crüe were cool for covering Helter Skelter 🤘🏼🖤😎
NO the Beatles are NOT a "BOY BAND" which is a misnomer anyway, because "BOY BANDS" only SING while doing CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE routines and DON'T PLAY any instruments....that is certainly NOT what the Beatles were. LET IT BE was written and sung by Paul McCartney. It really had nothing to do with what you thought. Paul wrote it after he had a dream that his deceased mother (who died from breast cancer when Paul was only 14) came to him in that dream and told him to "let it be" everything will work out. It was as the Beatles were in the throes of breaking up and Paul was having a hard time dealing with it, and it caused him a lot of sorrow and confusion. BUT it can be taken any way the person who is listening, wants to take it, just you guys said. SO HAPPY that you LOVE the song, it IS beautiful, as so many of their songs are. They were so versatile in their music, and could emote so many different moods on the listener. I have loved them from the beginning of their recording career.
They had a unique sound that was all their own & their songwriting was beyond incredible, this is why many other bands were influenced & they will always be the world's greatest band hands down.
❤ hey guys i love this song simply because it got thru when i was going thru chemotherapy and radiation for cancer i would listen to it all the timelove ya guys❤
When I was a teen my dad was teaching me about Bob Marley, my mom was teaching me about The Beatles, and my sister taught me bout snoop dog.😊😊😊 And early Metallica and Megadeath taught me about heavy metal.😊😊😊 Then later in my very late teen years, my mom told me about Rage Against the Machine.😊
Thanks for another great reaction. Now get to one of their really smoking rockers. Helter Skelter is the most rocking song they did. Hoping and waiting for your reaction to it.
This is my favorite Beatles song. It became even more special when my grandmother, whose name was Mary, passed away at age 91 in 2021 due to COVID. I think of her each time that I hear this now. ❤❤❤❤
Great reaction to one of my favorite bands and songs! I grew up in the 1960's and was introduced to the Beatles by my dad, who was a professional jazz musician. Usually it's the kids who introduce rock music to their parents, but not in my case. 😂 Others might have mentioned this here, but the Beatles--and especially Paul--became a fan of Aretha Franklin after her 1967 debut album and, according to the online music magazine, Far Out: (Quote): "...when Paul McCartney wrote ‘Let It Be’, he sent an acetate demo to the singer (Aretha Franklin) in the hope that she’d record it, which of course she did." She was actually the first to record it for an album, about two months before the Beatles. So in a sense that's the original recording of Let It Be. She did it as a gospel song, which is how I've always thought of it--and how it was presented in the Beatles-inspired movie, Across the Universe. She also recorded other Beatles songs, like Eleanor Rigby. Far Out magazine goes on to say that Aretha "...went on to record further covers of Beatles songs such as 'The Fool on The Hill’ and ‘The Long and Winding Road’. When Franklin died on August 16th, 2018, Paul McCartney said: 'Let’s all take a moment to give thanks for the beautiful life of Aretha Franklin, the Queen of our souls, who inspired us all for many many years.'"
Side note: UK rapper/musician Ren (whom you've done great reactions for) mentioned Let It Be in his song Seven Sins and played a cover version of it for his fans from his apartment, with just him and his guitar.
1st Condolences on your dog . McCarthy said he had a dream about his mother Mary who had passed away. She said that to him and it made him feel better. We have to remember to let go of all the world’s trauma sometimes. You can’t let the world crush your soul,it doesn’t help anyone. Sometimes ……. ☮️
The Beatles were very active in the civil rights movement. Their song Black Bird was in support of Rosa Parks. Peace and Love was a major theme in their catalog. Johns Give Peace a Chance is a must listen.
David Coverdale: In 1991-1993, during a Whitesnake hiatus, he collaborated with ex-Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page on the Coverdale-Page album, which was subsequently certified platinum. In 1997 studio album Restless Heart was initially intended to be released as a solo album, but in the end was released under moniker of "David Coverdale & Whitesnake". On 1 March 2007, Coverdale became a US citizen, in a ceremony in Reno, Nevada, and now holds dual US and UK citizenship. Wikipedia.
Love this song. So beautiful and meaningful for different reasons to different people. But you killed me with the Yokozuna. That's what I'm gonna call her from now on..😂
After seeing his mother in his dreams (mother Mary) because of his life being in turmoil at the time, he woke up and wrote the lyrics and music, but then thought he had heard this from someone else and started asking John and the rest of the band if they had heard it, they said no, then asked a few close friends to get the same reply, so he then realised that he had a dream about it and the Beatles released it.....
ahhhh! you picked the version with the GOOOOD guitar solo! good on ya, ya mad bastards! (by the by, "let it be" in british english is not "leave it alone", as it is in american english. its the subjunctive tense - "allow it to come to pass"; "may it happen".)
People talk about the early Beatles like there was this cool music scene going on that sounded like the late 60's-70's and The Beatles choose to sing (I Want to Hold Your Hand) instead - you wrong - I Want to Hold Your Hand was some of the heaviest if not heaviest sound you could find in February of '64. That electric opening, smashing of the cymbals through-out the song, "scream-singing"...The Beatles were the Metallica of the early 60's, and created the "60's sound". Go find a harder song around 63/early '64....I'm sure there is one (not popular and didn't chart) now go find a second one. If you don't like early Beatles music than you don't like rock n roll before 1966
I was about 8 years old when this song came out. The older guys in the neighborhood had a clubhouse above the garage of one of them and they would play the church organ part on me. Great times and memories!
A lot of people think that "Mother Mary comes to me' is a religious reference. But it is actually about a dream that Paul had where his late mother (whose name was Mary) came to comfort him in a dream.
This song was written by Paul McCartney. His mother, whose name was Mary, died of cancer when he was 14 and some years later, in the sixties, when he was having a lot of turmoil in his life, he had a dream in which she came to him and told him that everything was going to be ok, just let it be.
I didn't know that, thanks 😊
True!!

Thank you. This needs repeating. ♥️
That is one of the reasons I love this song so much. I lost my mother when I was 14 as well and for years whenever I dreamed about her it was always a nightmare. Yes

Paul is on lead vocal, and his mother’s name was Mary. One of the origin stories of this song is that Paul had a dream of his mother.
This is the time The Beatles were having major problems and Paul was stressed then his mother appeared in a dream and told him to Let It Be...
I remember a Korean friend heard this for the first time. He sat down and had head in hands. It is that everlastingly moving across the globe.
Another great, emotional Beatles song written and sung by Paul is The Long and Winding Road.
Saw McCartney live in Indianapolis in 2002 and sang this along with him and 17,000 of his "closest friends." Yes, there were tears running down my face, as well!
I saw him about 10 years ago and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

My Dad passed away 3 years ago from Covid and he loved the Beatles. I played this song at his funeral 😢 today he would have been 78.

Mary McCartney was Paul’s mum. She passed away when he was young. This song is about her.
Ringo's drumming gets me every time. Just incredible.

Pop was a term back then, but it was an umbrella term for anything that wasn’t classical, traditional folk or jazz.
The band's at this time were mostly called "Beat-Bands", regardless of the music they played.
Such a beautiful song
My Mr. BoJangles was 16. I've never cried so hard in my life? It almost broke my soul?
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (LSD) is an acid trip described, well worth your time gentlemen
"Eddie Brick-ull" had me laughing my ass off 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Let It Be (album and song) at the Grammys was up for album and song of the year but Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water took both awards.
That was a tough choice to have to make. Both incredible songs musically and lyrically. Both have brought comfort to countless people in difficult times for over half a century. So glad we still have both Pauls, as well as Art and Ringo. RIP John and George.
I would have given the song to let it be, but the album by simon garfunkel is better
Great music can bring anyone to tears.....that's almost the definition of great music
I was tougt this in highschool. The Beatles are amazing
I saw Paul with Wings in 1992 in Boulder, CO. Incredible. Simply incredible....
"I love music" ....I hear you brother!!!
Following the teaching of the Beatles leads to a better life.
If you watch the Peter Jackson documentary "The Beatles: Get Back," you'll get to see Paul actually writing this song in real time. Goosebumps.
I hope you guys will do lots of Beatles songs, their catalog is incredible
There will always be an answer.....let It be ......and everyone please chillax. We all live here. 💜🤟
I'll be at work when this drops, but I'm really looking forward to watching it once I get back tonight!
My favorite Beatles song!!❤️❤️
I am a huge fan of your channel. I rarely comment on reviews, but I actually look for your responses. Good job guys.
@joanniesalaiz1853 I am so sorry that you had to go through all that. I sincerely hope that you are no longer dealing with cancer, and are doing well.
When I was a teen my dad was teaching me about Bob Marley, my mom was teaching me about The Beatles, and my sister taught me bout snoop dog.😊😊😊 And early Metallica and Megadeath taught me about heavy metal.😊😊😊
Then later in my very late teen years, my mom told me about Rage Against the Machine.😊
Paul wrote this song after having a dream where his dead mother came to him and just said Let it Be
John Lennon sang a Christmas Song that was About world peace.
It's called War Is Over ( So this is Christmas)
God, what a great group those guys were!
Great reaction to one of my favorite bands and songs! I grew up in the 1960's and was introduced to the Beatles by my dad, who was a professional jazz musician. Usually it's the kids who introduce rock music to their parents, but not in my case. 😂
Others might have mentioned this here, but the Beatles--and especially Paul--became a fan of Aretha Franklin after her 1967 debut album and, according to the online music magazine, Far Out: (Quote): "...when Paul McCartney wrote ‘Let It Be’, he sent an acetate demo to the singer (Aretha Franklin) in the hope that she’d record it, which of course she did." She was actually the first to record it for an album, about two months before the Beatles.
Paul is the lead.
They did nothing for civil rights but do drugs and make millions. Lennon was a communist fool.
This is from '69 and into 1970...one of their last hits
David Coverdale: In 1991-1993, during a Whitesnake hiatus, he collaborated with ex-Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page on the Coverdale-Page album, which was subsequently certified platinum. In 1997 studio album Restless Heart was initially intended to be released as a solo album, but in the end was released under moniker of "David Coverdale & Whitesnake".
On 1 March 2007, Coverdale became a US citizen, in a ceremony in Reno, Nevada, and now holds dual US and UK citizenship.

Love this song. So beautiful and meaningful for different reasons to different people. But you killed me with the Yokozuna. That's what I'm gonna call her from now on..😂
I love you both! I love The Beatles!
Same Feeling Here "I Love Music" Feel Ya Brotha
Life without music would be very sad indeed.
If you want a good live song. Listen to the live performance of "Don't Let Me Down"
on the roof top of Abbey Road studios.
It was Paul’s mother (Mary) who would tell him, when he was young, to Let It Be because he worried about things.
ahhhh! you picked the version with the GOOOOD guitar solo! good on ya, ya mad bastards! (by the by, "let it be" in british english is not "leave it alone", as it is in american english. its the subjunctive tense - "allow it to come to pass"; "may it happen".)
George knocked this guitar solo out of the park. Goosebumps every time it kicks in.
If you don't like early Beatles music than you don't like rock n roll before 1966
The Beatles... They were only together for 7 years... But put out 21 albums!!!
I was about 8 years old when this song came out. The older guys in the neighborhood had a clubhouse above the garage of one of them and they would play the church organ part on me. Great times and memories!
Buffalo Springfield were around in the 60s and featured Stephen Stills and Neil Young.
A lot of people think that "Mother Mary comes to me' is a religious reference. But it is actually about a dream that Paul had where his late mother (whose name was Mary) came to comfort him in a dream.
It can mean whatever you need it to mean at the time. That makes it Poetry.
@@elowishusmirkatroid4898 As with all lyrics they can speaak to you in different ways. But I was relating the story that Macca told about writing it.
