Paul McCartney's mother (who died in 1956 of breast cancer) came to him in a dream one night when he was feeling a little stressed, depressed, harried. His mother told him "Let it be" "put away all those fears and doubts, and drugs, and booze, and just let it be, it will all work out".
@@nonrepublicrat Many of us fans of the Beatles knew long before "wikipedia" that Paul's mother's name was Mary, we knew ALL the names of their family members. Don't assume that someone who gives information got it from wikipedia, and not from their own knowledge that they knew for many years. 😊
In any field of life there have been great professionals, great artists, great champions, great musicians, great scientists, but exist also in any of these fields some people different, born to change the rules, the human history, born to become legend, the Beatles have been one these!
Paul McCartney (the one with the beard on the upper right of the album cover) wrote this song about his late mother who came to him in a dream when he was depressed about The Beatles breaking up. Her advice to him was”Let It Be”. Things will work themselves out.
This was my Dads favourite song of The Beatles. He died of cancer right before Christmas at the age of 69 and we played this song at his funeral this friday. For me this song will forever be connected with my Dad. ❤
I feel very sad every time I hear an original Beatlefan dies. It means that there is one less of us left in the world who remembers what it was like back in those days. You have my sympathies. ❤️😢 May he rest in paradise.
What takes this song to church is Billy Preston's organ licks at 2:36. Great guitar solo by George. Love the angelic background harmonies, too. Superb!
No, the magic was NOT their versatility, the "magic" of the Beatles' was that their writing and performing were on a higher level than any other band before or since.
The Beatles are a genre all to themselves, because they did all styles of music. From rock to blues, ballads to novelty songs. Their fame, which was literally unprecedented at that time, empowered them to try everything. They were really a gift to the world that will never stop giving.
I was 13 when I listened to the Beatles on the radio in 1963. I instantly fell in love with them. "I want to hold your hand" and "She loves you" were my first single. Now I am 73 and I play "Let it be" and "Hey Jude" and "Imagine" on the piano in a retirement home and people still love it. This music is timeless and I am so happy to have experienced it in my youth..... greetings from Germany, Monika.
This is the song that inspired me, as a young teen, to play the piano. I taught myself this song by ear. It took me weeks but I did it! Then I started taking piano lessons.
Mary was Paul McCartney's mother. She died when Paul was young. The song describes his thoughts about his "mum" when he would be worried or concerned about things, and she would come to his mind and tell him don't worry about it, let it be, or just let it go.
The Beatles, formidable musicians individually, were without peer when performing together. A perfect example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. We will never see their equal again, and I’m so glad I was here to experience their genius.
“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.” - Kurt Vonnegut
One of my favorite songs of all time. The Beatles have so many great songs from the beginning of their career to the end. I would love to see your reactions to more of their songs. Thank you.
This sung stems from a dream Paul had about his late mother, Mary. In the dream she was advising him on what to do about issues within The Beatles. Her advice was to "let it be".
This song always grabs me. It was the inspiration for me to teach myself how to play the piano back in 1970. I HAD to learn this song. It's one I play and sing to my grandchildren even now. I love this song. Great, heartfelt reaction from you guys. Thanks
I remember hearing this song for the 1st time back in middle school in the seventies. Was already a fan of the early Beatles from the sixties, this just pushed it higher.
I am so grateful that people like you are giving people of other generations the opportunity to hear the music of my generation. Every day I give thanks that I grew up in the 50s, '60s and '70s. I was a musician and actually got a chance to play so much of this music live. I am thankful that my generation gave the world so much incredible music as a legacy.
I love his description of the natural sound of this recording and that it sounds like you are in the room with the Beatles as they are playing. 🎤🎸🎹🎼🎵🎶🎵❤️
I grew up with the Beatles music & had most of their records. They were part of the British Invasion. You can't go wrong with any of their music. They had so many great songs in the 60's. This song is the title track from the final studio album "Let It Be" that was released on May 1970, almost a month after the group's break-up. It had a lot of good songs on it. "The Long & Winding Road", "Get Back", "Across The Universe" etc.
I was 5 when The Beatles landed. I was in Liverpool and can still recall the buzz about the city, that something really, really big was about to happen!!
Sorry, they were not only the part of the British Invasion they triggered this Invasion. Their appearance at the Ed Sullivan Show is said to be the beginning of this Invasion. The singer of a quiet unknown Band I think his name is Mick Jagger said: Without the Beatles the British Invasion would not have taken place! They were the ones to kick the doors open for all the other British Bands!
I've been listing to The Beatles a lot for the past 20 years. And this song is one of the very best. Probably in top 5. btw. Thanks for great reaction!
'Hey Jude' is the track that I naturally put alongside 'Let it Be'. The most incredible back catalogue from the most influential music band in history! :)
Great reaction you two. There is no question that analog recordings have an organic quality. Where as digital recording ,in all it's clarity, tends to sound clinical and lacking in soul. Cheers, RNB
As one young reactor, listening to something else by the Beatles, put it: "It's SO real, it's UNREAL!" Apparently they'd never heard actual, non-digitally enhanced/adulterated music before, so to them, it seemed like some sort of anomaly... 😀
The clarity and quality of the recording is amazing particularly when you realise it was done 53 years ago! Always at the forefront of recording technology in the 8 or so years they recorded together the massive changes they oversaw and indeed heralded is nothing short of miraculous.
Just now is the first time I've listened to Ringo's drumming properly on this song. I was always listening to John. The drum lines in this number are so good.
Mother Mary. Paul's mother was Mary. She died when he was 14 and came to him in a dream when the Beatles were having difficulties with each other in 1969 saying, "Let it be."
Paul McCartney of the Beatles wrote this song. He said his mother, who died when he was 14, came to him one night in his sleep, when he was worrying about something, and just said 'Let it be'. Paul's mother was called Mary. He had a dream of her saying 'let it be'. So the underlying theme isn't religious, though they made it ambiguous deliberately and played with the religious imagery. :)
Paul never deliberately made it ambiguous when he wrote it, it was simply about him dreaming of his mother Mary saying "Let it Be' It wasn't until he saw that some people were taking it as referring to the VIRGIN MARY and feeling it was a religious song, that he stated in interviews that it wasn't his intention, that he was referring to his mom, but he said it was OK with him, if some people think of it in the religious vein and that it is the Virgin Mother.
