That was the best 2 1/2 hour drive that his customer ever made. Not only does he show the customer what is wrong with his “new” used truck but he educates us his viewing audience about what to look at on our very own Toyota trucks. It’s pretty obvious that Peter is a good mechanic and knows his trade, but the more important thing I take away from watching his channel is this… he is an excellent Sensai..Japanese word for teacher! There are tons of good mechanics out there turning wrenches and fixing vehicles, but not many can teach others to do it. I immediately went out to my garage and examined my Toyota’s brake fluid. I learn something new every time I view your channel. Thank you Sensai!
Your a good man Peter to donate some of your expertise time to us so we can do repairs ourselves to avoid some of those money hungry mechanics thank you
Peter, This Tacoma reminds me of Charlie Brown's Christmas Tree. It just needs to be rescued from its current state of neglect to reach its full potential. Speaking of Christmas, I suggest that everyone gives their Toyota- driving friends a subscription to 'Toyota Maintenance' as a gift this year. This gift that keeps on giving will increase their knowledge of their car while boosting Peter's subscription base at the same time. :-)
I can totally see traveling 3 hours to get my Taco into your service bays. Im a little farther than that but you are my go to source for toyota service information. Thank you from Canada 🇨🇦
Peter.....I hope your dreams will come true where you will be able to make top $ from UA-cam! Weekly video of ya showing the world and your fans of taking care of our Toyota's vehicles. They simply are the best brand around hand's down as long as we maintain it and not trust so many of them Dishonest Dealers out there ! Thanks a million Peter and we always looking forward to seeing new video's from ya. God Speed Sir!
This was wonderful! Every minute you can share with us is very much appreciated and worth it's weight in gold. But we know you must also work instead of just film.
If it hasn’t been said yet, you Sir are the Bob Ross of the automotive world. Very informative and detail to attention is 2nd to none thank you thank you....
I wish I lived near your shop Peter I'd have you look at my Lexus with 2GR-FE. The dealer recommended $5800 of service including $3822 to fix a timing belt cover leak--which is more of a little seep. I don't mind paying for good work but as you say, at the dealer the work is not always the best. I don't blame the techs, it's the bean counters.
My new favorite channel. My daughter is learning to drive. I have a 96 Tacoma which is very rarely used, and she wants to drive it when she turns 16. We will use your videos to repair and replace necessary items, and she and I will learn a lot along the way. Thanks!
Very informative and detailed info have owned Toyotas for 32 years cant beat them .Basic maintenance done myself keeps them in great shape.Keep up the good work
When I grew up in pgh. Pa, I had a neighbor who came over from Hungary during the'56 revolution. He was always working on his cars, of course they were Ford's!! He taught me a lot, like how to cuss in 2 languages, but seriously, I learned a lot from him, and listening to you has brought back good memories, as the two of you sound so much alike. Love my 2004 Tacoma, and Olive your videos, keep it up, I'm kaput!
Hi my friend, My name is Sam Rivas and I have a 2017 Tacoma and I love it. I appreciate all of your instructional and informative advice you provide your viewers. Keep up the great work 👍 Your friend Sam Rivas
I like watching your Toyota maintenance I have a 2011 Highlander 3.5. I learned very much from your channel and thank you for your time and effort to put it out there. Thanks Bill Ward from Tennessee
Thanks for another great video of Toyota tech talk, especially with a 5VZ-FE. Loved my ‘03 Taco new from dealer, but didn’t understand how great those engines were. Now older with two 3rd Gen 4Runner rescues in the garage I don’t want anything else. Keep them coming Sir!
Great inspection ! I have the same truck. It gave me a couple things I need to check . Very soothing voice too . I feel less stressed. Thankyou Peter .
Thank you for the vid. This 2003 truck is a lot closer to my 1996 tacoma 4×4,4 cyl, manual trans. I just don't want to get rid of it so I appreciate you trying to help us.
I wish he was closer to Los Angeles. The factory hoses are reasonably priced. PCV and hose need replaced. One can buy a factory kit with the rubber grommet which become very brittle. When I changed mine half of the grommet fell in to the engine. I was freaking out but luckily a neighbor had special needle nose pliers i was able to pluck the piece out. I highly recommend replacing at least the grommet every so often. I did this on my pre-runner 3.4 right after I bought it in 2013. It's a cheap easy thing to do so one day it crumbles in to engine.
You will understand where the brake fluid went when you open the calipers to make room for the new pads, especially if you've recently topped it up. If every mechanic was as meticulous and knowledgeable as you sir, we would all be driving cars from 1967. Or a few of us diehard cheapskates anyways. Most informative videos I have ever seen. Thank-you , Liked and subscribed!
Never bring your Yota to the dealer. The techs have a lot of bad habits and are incompetent to fix your vehicle. I had a brand new 2013 4Runner and took it to the dealer for its first oil change to take advantage of the 2 years or 25000 mile free oil changes. When i went to change the oil again after about 4000 later miles the technician had tightened the oil cartridge housing at the drain plug, freezing the cartridge drain plug to the housing, not to mention loose rock shield bolts. When i finally got the cartridge housing off I had to put it in a vise to get the drain plug off destroying the housing. Fuck the dealer! I do my own oil changes!
Yelp...they have their trainees straight out of mechanic school work in the oil & lube jobs. I had a ripped power steering boot the end where the clamp goes and holds in place. They charged me $135 diagnostic fee b/c they can't just take your word for it. Tech just tried to zip tie the end of the boot in place even though that part of the boot for clamping it in place was gone. Thank God I checked before leaving the stealership. That zip tie didn't hold from the lift back to the parking lot. They said they were trying to save me some $. And it was an additional $300 to take the tie rod off and put in a new boot. Can't trust them. That was an easy $135 for them to zip tie the boot. I bought the boot went and did the job myself, trying to follow the saying 'if you want it done right, do it yourself' for these simpler things.
Just pull the whole filter housing, don’t mess with that drain, replace o-ring etc. It doesn’t make a mess if you are careful. Less to mess with, easier to change.
really good vid, BUT I have a suggestion that will help you, there is a brake flued tester (tests the percent of moister in the flued) on eBay, cost less then 10$ easy to use, check it out, good luck
Great job...I was waiting to see you inspect the timing belt.... I think Toyota recommends every 100k..Dealer did my tundra at 105k. Oh and you need to franchise your business, I would happily pay extra knowing that caring, knowledgeable service technicians were looking out for me.....again great job, breath of fresh air if ever.
Thank you and very helpful as Im a toyota man.....keep up the great work and informative videos that educate us in the vehicle and what to look out for with dealer and auto shop scammers...
I have finally found someone I would trust to work on my truck..... but I am in London so a bit far to travel. Enjoy and learnt from your videos .thank you
Heating the old rubber line with a heat gun will help to make the rubber pliable for a few minutes, long enough to put the line onto the fitting without tearing the material.
I think your goal on switching to UA-cam is possible. Just be patient while your channel grows. People come for the personality (you), not for the cars. And learning is great too.
I have an 02 with a 3.4 that I bought brand new 12-03-2001. I had to have the valve cover gaskets replaced @ 85k Seems to be a common issue with this motor. It's been a good truck though. only 143k miles on it. I've gotten a lot of great tips from you buddy. Thanks..
I just bought as-is a 95 T-100 with a non functional clutch, which I will be replacing soon . It runs and I looked it over before buying and I'm sure some maintenance has not been done. Idling in the driveway vs. actually driving on the road may show some issues. I had hoped this video was for the 3RZ-FE (4 cyl). It is not ,but found this to be a VERY informative video by a tech who really knows (and CARES) what he is doing. I am still not sure about differences in this engine and mine, but know most will be the same or similar. Not surprised someone drove 2 1/2 hrs. to have him take a look ! THANKS !
Petr, Other UA-cam "experts" caution that keeping the brake reservoir at maximum risks spillage when brake pads are replaced. They suggest that as long as the fluid is above the minimum level and not falling rapidly (as would happen with a leak), that's good enough.
Well keeping brake fluid level at the maximum offers some assurance just in case a leak happened. Any skilled mechanic would check the brake fluid level before pressing the caliper much.
If you spray a little silicon spray on the "male" ends before you repair or replace the rubber hoses. They will go on a lot easier and less of a chance to split when replacing old rubber hoses. Also u can spray the hoses too.

Like the Bob Ross of vehicle maintenance.
Exactly!
The way and tone you describe your procedures calms me down is a soothing experience I love it. Thank you.
I'm so glad!
That motor is probably the best motor ever produced by toyota! they literally go forever!
Your a good man Peter to donate some of your expertise time to us so we can do repairs ourselves to avoid some of those money hungry mechanics thank you
Peter, you are a good, perfect mechanic in Toyota cars & trucks
thank you

That's the plan!
ASAP for the filter!
Why people don't think about this? Change every other oil change.
Interesting to see a pro work.
More to come!
Hi my friend,
My name is Sam Rivas and I have a 2017 Tacoma and I love it. I appreciate all of your instructional and informative advice you provide your viewers. Keep up the great work 👍
Your friend

I would drive from Arizona to have you work on my Tacoma and Tundra... you are that amazing!
Just film what you have time for. We enjoy what you can post. Good job Peter.
You are a craftsman. Thanks for showing us what a true professional inspects. Well done!

I have the same battery tester and I love it! The state of health function is invaluable to get out in front of starting problems.
true

Champion mate. Keep up the good work brother.
Thanks, will do!
Like your precision inspection! I do not trust dealers either.
Right on
I’d cross the country to have you inspect my truck!! No one is as conscientious as you Peter.
Great inspection ! I have the same truck. It gave me a couple things I need to check . Very soothing voice too . I feel less stressed. Thankyou Peter .
I love watching his video's............this is the reason why I do all my own Maintenance on both my Toyota's .......Thank You Peter!!

It's a pleasure to see a mechanic with a conscious and professionalism great job Peter 👍 best wishes from 🇨🇦
Would be great to do a similar video on the rest of the inspection - suspension, brakes, drive shaft, exhaust, etc. - hope you can do it!!
V6 manual first gen Tacoma. Beauty!
you were well trained, I would visit you from Texas
Thank you, so helpful and informative. I wish you all the best in 2021!
You are the best! I do appreciate your time to do what you do and hope others can to. I would love to get my Toyota to your shop some day!
Im from the DC area, I wish I could drive over to your shop lol. I got a 2000 sr5 trd xtracab tacoma with 145k miles. Pandemic saved me 18k this year
145K miles!! Low miles lucky you!!
Thanks for teaching us what to look for
My pleasure 😊

Thank you for taking the time. Fantastic video, I learned a lot by watching.
One of the best videos on this channel

You bet
Always a pleasure to learn from you, and the viggle viggle technique is always the best around! Have a blessed day and thanks for sharing!
Thanks, you too!
thanks for your video. I have a 2001 4 runner and want to keep it in top shape . Listening to you is a key to that
I'm in the market for a 01-04 Tacoma and this is really satisfying to watch and learn. Thanks a lot for the immensely helpful tips.
When you smile, it makes me smile.

Thank you for taking us along on this inspection - you are able to teach so many of us, so many things! Cheers!
Thank you for the videos
Glad you like them!
Thank you for sharing excellent inspection. Just what you said teachers me a lot.
Thank you Peter. Great video. :)Awesome detail.
Heating the old rubber line with a heat gun will help to make the rubber pliable for a few minutes, long enough to put the line onto the fitting without tearing the material.
Great Job!
Dirt on the MAF and intake valve is from the engine breather hose.
Install catch cans on the PCV and engine breather hoses.
Great episode again
Dunno why people ignore the clutch fluid. Having a master cylinder fail on a highway ramp when I was 17 taught me this lesson.
If we learn at all, we usually learn the hard way.
Have same truck & engine very helpful thank you
I think your goal on switching to UA-cam is possible. Just be patient while your channel grows. People come for the personality (you), not for the cars. And learning is great too.
Great Tip, thank you
Thank you, very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
hi peter, after being in the parts game for 40+ years if you were in the uk my cars would be coming to your garage. thank you.
you are welcome
Great instructional videos, zlatý český ručičky 👍🏼
Superb video!
excellent!
Thanks for sharing this video,
love your advice..great channel ! from Alberta Can.

Great video! Great channel! Great teacher & explanation! You are the man! Greetings from sunny Las Cruces, NM!
This is the most detailed inspection on 5vz-fe I've seen!
"Look at the condition - This one is NASTY" 😂

I will answer that with short video today
Generally speaking, I exchange my brake fluid several times before my pads need replacing.
Good video
Champion, I love to watch your videos, hope you can do more on the 3 r z fe , from Australia👍🏻
More to come!
I kinda was considering doing the same thing. I am one county south.
Would you want to document doing the radiator, and water pump, timing belt on my 06 sequoia? I would happily bring it down from Seattle
I nip a lot of problems in the bud by “playing around” as a home mechanic. Small fluid leaks, loose connections, cracking hoses, etc
Aight bro I love Toyota trucks and your videos are awesome just sub to you my friend!
Very informative post! Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines!
Thanks for watching!
