I don’t consider those two devices to be in the same category. PlayStation Portal is an accessory to your PS5. Steam deck is a standalone device. Price points also completely different.
Different purposes. This is a $200 accessory that will probably go to $150 on sale. If the quality at home holds up to what early reviewers are saying you’re getting a $200 native-like ps5 experience in a handheld at home. Yes you can use your phone, tablet or other devices to remote play but there’s always some setup and other hassles. I’ll keep this thing in my home office upstairs and never look back. Plus I’m essentially playing my ps existing library which is huge (no new purchases or installations). Essentially it’s like having a second console at home that’s mobile.
If only it had the back paddles from the DS Edge. Also, sucks that it isn’t OLED. I got burned buying a Steam Deck earlier this year. Now, they’ve got a slightly better one with OLED. 😅

Definitely gonna buy the Portal to play Disco Elysium and Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age.
