Kevin always seems so excited to upgrade the teams home setups for them. MVP Kev!
Depending on the remote play setup people use this actually could perform better than some other solutions because there is no bluetooth latency between the connecting device and a dual sense controller. One example where this would be a factor would be say an iPad and a dualsense.
Though if you're already using something like a backbone I guess you wouldn't expect a difference, as that is also not wireless.

I'm very interested in this. As someone like greg who wants to game more but also likes to hang out with my partner at home, tech like steam deck and switch have been my main gaming devices, and I've been wanting a way to use my Playstation at home not in my room and this looks like the perfect device for that. I can finally continue through the Yakuza games and also have it in time to play Persona 3 remake on it.
I agree I have an office but when I game for long periods I feel like I'm ignoring my wife and sometimes she wants to watch something this was a great way for us to still spend time together and do what we want

As someone who wrapped up the Eldin Ring platinum using remote play on my Zfold, I can't wait to get this hardware. I've been wrapping up the AC6 platinum and I think this would be perfect for it. Sea Of Stars as well.

I’m playing lies of p on my backbone. Rarely have issues with it. I cannot wait for a bigger screen with the Portal.
I think it's unfair to say that there are a lot of people "excited" about it. I think calling people curious or interested in what it is and does is more accurate. I've been watching reviews and previews because I want to know what the hell it is, doesn't mean I want to buy one.

My problem with Backbone is having an otter box case on my iPhone, I don’t want to fight my phone in & out everytime I want to remote play, or wear the case out going in & out so much, so for those reasons alone I’m hyped for Portal. I just wish it could run some apps without having to be connected to the ps5 or had some type of internal storage for even just smaller games like vita or ps1 classics.
Does anyone know how switching users works? Have multiple people in the house who will share it most likely when the tv is taken

What happens when their is stick drift? I don't think you can replace the sticks?
Why do ppl worry so much about stick drift? I feel like it's a overhyped concern. Been gaming since a kid and I've never had stick drift ever on any device. PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5 not one time.
I have multple stick drifted PS5 controllers. I bought a Pro controller and those started to drift. Luckily you swap out the modules on the pro controller. Also those older controllers would just break in random ways on PS2 and PS3. Also my Nintendo Switch drifts as well. Thanks for sharing your experience though, i guess. @@Games.Gadgets.Sports
I’ve personally never had any problems with remote play , I used it with my Razer kishi and it works so well for me.
If this is the new generation of KF content I am a fan. Love Andy and Barrett’s opinions and tastes but more importantly Andy’s hair. Also bless does a banger job facilitating this convo. This will probably go unread and unnoticed but had to type it out. Good day ✌️

I play spider-man 2 and Jedi Survivor on my phone with remote play all the time and it works flawlessly. I think it all comes down to your WiFi setup, your mileage may vary based on that.
@JUDAHYAHWEHKiNG I have AT&T Fiber and I use a Deco XE75 mesh WiFi system and remote play works wonderfully.
You can do that exact dual audio feature with the xbox wireless headset.
I wonder would bluetooth work with like a dongle plugged to Usb C port or can you use blutooth headphones connected to your PS5 if you play at home and your headphones work through couple of walls 😅
You know what would be clever, if it connected to the PS5 directly without a Wi-Fi router
That would be very advanced tech, and would at least require a Bluetooth connection
I continue to be amazed at the number of people--even those in charge of reviewing a device like the Portal--who don't understand that bluetooth has too much latency for gaming and thats why almost NO GAMING HEADSETs use it. People seem to think anything wireless is bluetooth. If your headset has a dongle, its not using bluetooth. PS5 and XBOX dont use bluetooth. Switch added it later and everyone complained about the latency. It's a problem. Sony should have allowed ps5-specific headsets to work via dongle. Thats fair. But lack of bluetooth isnt actually a negative. I feel like i'm in the twilight zone with people not realizing how bad bluetooth audio is for gaming.
I hope that I will love it… I don’t want to stress my phone battery all the time, so having a dedicated device just for RemotePlay with an integrated controller? Hell yes?!
Hi Kindafunny! Wanted to correct this for folks out there - On the xbox wireless headset since it was launched years ago - you can have 2 audio sources play at the same time! :) So you can listen to your music/podcast on your phone and also play the game at the same time. Been a feature for a while - I enjoy it!

I know it’s a PS5 only remote player But I wonder if you compare it to a PS4 because you can do that with a normal PS5 controller to a PS4 And this is basically just a PS5 controller with a screen in the middle so you should be able to pair it to the PS4 I’ve never tried it, so I don’t know if it does work But it should be like if you’re the PS4 controller to the PS5 or the PS5 controller to the PS4, it should be the same thing you guys should try this in a video to see if it works. Cause, I’m actually really curious. Otherwise I’ll try it.

I played the entirety of Sniper Elite 5 through remote play. Once my brain adjusted to the slight lag, I had zero issues.
I played the entirety of Spider-man via remote play on my ipad. There was a delay but it did not ruin the performance in any way.
Been playing a ton of Lies of P via XCloud on my Steam Deck and I was so proud to beat Fuoco on it
I think the lack of Bluetooth inclusion on the Portal makes sense. Realistically, the only device you'd want to connect is headphones, but all BT audio is laggy. It introduces latency, sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on the protocol version and codec (like aptx). BT Audio is simply never "real time", hence why Sony's headsets provide you with a radio adapter dongle. Whether the headsets are actually Wi-Fi, or some other type of radio frequency, that's another story, however the point is - the headsets are not BT themselves.
Allowing usesrs to connect BT headsets would be a terrible experience, since not only is the Portal already a bit laggy, compared to "sitting at the console", but now you're also introducing laggy audio as well.
On the other feature of the earbuds - where you can stream audio from Portal and another BT device, that's pretty awesome. Normal BT headphones can connect to multiple devices using a feature called "Multipoint", however in most cases that only allows you to stream audio from one source, and it switches when another source starts streaming audio as well. I'm guessing the reason PlayStation earbuds can stream from multiple sources is because one of the sources is the already mentioned radio adapter and not the actual BT protocol.
Came here to say the same thing. I feel like i'm taking crazy pills seeing all of these reviews discuss being mad that the device doesnt use bluetooth. I just dont think people realize that almost no gaming headsets are using bluetooth for this very reason.
@@BigKurzMD I guess people just don't realize the latency of BT. Maybe they watch the odd YT video on their commute and think "maybe the audio is just out of sync in the video" and otherwise listen to music or podcasts. For a long time I didn't even realize the latency of BT and that was years ago when it was 200ms+. But for gaming it's a totally different story and in the environment when you need to get as close as possible to "real-time", the technology is still not suitable for that purpose.
The reviewers for these devices who complain about lack of BT audio, should definitely brush up on their knowledge and possibly advertise that "even if it existed, it wouldn't be the optimal experience".

Alan Wake 2 looks and feels great, but I'm fighting the first boss and running out of bullets, and not being able to shoot back while not being able to see where I'm running or where anything is makes me think I might move on to a more approachable game (or turn down the difficulty...)
It has happened to several people. Turn the difficulty down, the game doesnt shine in the combat.. its about the story and exploring.

Im nervous about my home network connecting to this. My home internet is 300 mbps 3.0.
I mostly play on my iPad air remote play. Similar to Greg and I've had no issues. I don't think the portal will look better than my iPad screen. I bought one though because fomo 😅
As much as I'd love for this thing to be for me, it feels like there's a lot of conflicting reports. For Bless to say the connection was fine 75% of the time just isn't good enough for me. I have great WiFi and am wired in, but I'm not going to take a $200 gamble on it working "most of the time." It's such a shame they didn't decide to add a cloud streaming feature for Plus members. So strange they'd have the option on PS5 and PC, but not one of the best possible use cases for it.
Ya'll know that the PS5 also doesn't support regular Bluetooth connections, right? I tried pairing my Sony headphones and it doesn't work. I don't think they'll every "patch in" regular Bluetooth for the Portal. I'd love to be wrong though! That's a dumb decision.

I currently use my Steamdeck for remote play. I'm tempted to get this to have a dedicated device but I just wish the PlayStation Portal supported PS Now, if it did i would get it straight away.

PlayStation doesn’t use Bluetooth if the audio has to sync with video, as it’s to laggy. Thought you guys would know this.
So I heard that this thing doesn’t have a browser to be able to connect to WiFi networks through portals like at a Starbucks or a hotel. Is this true? If so, that’s ridiculous
The one issue with this device is literally based on everyone’s own wifi. I have watched several reviews and it’s either flawless, or has some hiccups.
Sea of Stars is definitely worth a play for the art style, music, and gameplay, but I do have to say the writing of the dialogue does a major disservice to the plot/story. Like, it's borderline juvenile and annoyingly saccharine at times. But still a game I'd give a 7-8/10.

Why would you buy the sony wireless buds specifically made to seamlessly work with the portal and then not want the portal? Just curious. There have been many other options for USB dongle earbuds for a long time
@BigKurzMD I've used my OG Galaxy buds for 5 years. I was due an upgrade anyway. I thought the pulse buds were a good choice to use on all my devices. Just came about at the right time.

Ethernet over powerline devices are cheap, work great in my house but maybe not as good in an apartment depending on how it's wired. But basically, Ethernet from router to one piece that plugs in to power outlet. You pair that with another unit which typically has wifi and one Ethernet port. Plug that into power in the room where you want to use your wifi device, or hardwire to say your PC/laptop.
Is this locked at 360p for everyone else?

I'm honestly excited for this device. I love remote play. The only real problem I ever get in remote play is occasionally controller input will be delayed when video and audio aren't. An all-in-one should fix it. I don't have to carry a controller and balance my phone screen up at the same time. I platinumed Spider-Man Remastered in Remote Play. This is my kind of device. I live in rural West Virginia. My home WiFi isn't anything to write home about but I have no problems

I would say Portal feels like a test to check the market for a PlayStation handheld. This plus looking at competitors can let Sony learn and know what to do on a portal 2. I don’t think we will get get local play but cloud play would be great

You can’t use the media apps, despite what Blessing said, so stuff like crunchy roll, Netflix, don’t work. It’s currently, games only.

Unfortunately Quantum Break and the Max Payne games are NOT part of the Control and Alan Wake universe due to Remedy not owning the rights to them (Microsoft owns QB and Rockstar owns MP). But, that hasn't stopped Remedy from heavily referencing them in Alan Wake II.
If you have terrible WiFi, you’re not gonna get a good experience. With good wifi it’s a great experience

You can't watch Streaming Media Apps from your PlayStation 5 to the Portal. It'll only open games.
The best part of Alan Wake 2 is how weirdly Finish that game is, and how menacing every single character you interact with is. Like Casey just looks like a fucked up character. Illmo is unsettling. It’s such a rollercoaster of subversion and eerie qualities.

I know it connects to the PS5 to use remote play But it has remote place so I have a feeling they’re gonna answer but for the PS4 soon I just have a weird feeling but a good feeling I mean I don’t know why it’s just a PS5 because it’s remote it should be able to work with the PS4, but that’s just me. I’ve never tried it.
The portal is clearly targeted to gamer parents such as myself. Work from home and sitting in long boring meetings you have no reason to be in? Remote play. Kids want to use the TV(s) to watch cartoons or game? Remote play while still watching the kids. Long day of work/kids? Remote play in bed. Is the features of the portal worth the price? Hell no, but for working gamer parents who have a PS5, possible multiple consoles, and buy games throughout the year then most likely the disposable income is available to buy a portal, steamdeck, and/or any other options out there.
I feel like KF being independently owned makes the issue more personal
Let me play Cloud based games from PS Plus anywhere I have an internet connection and I'm in but this having to remote play only option makes zero sense when you offer cloud gaming

4/5 for a device that can only reliably play games like Cocoon is crazy. Especially after what Blessing had to say, idk how he ended up at that score.
If this thing cant reliably play games from a train, car, plane, hotel, cafe etc then idk why on Earth anyone would waste their money on buying it. The majority of people have no use for this. If im at home why would I bother streaming it when I can just play on my console on my 4k tv?
Portal seems like a luxury item. If it were Vita 2, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. But for what it is, I can't see myself buying it. Also, I have low-end internet so I imagine it'd be way more of a headache than entertainment.

I got mine today (Argos 4tw) and it's..... Great!!!
If you have decent enough WiFi (15mbs+) then for SOME people it's a brilliant buy.
If like me you have a wife and kids who sometimes want the main tv then this is 100% worth a buy... End of.
If you live alone, have your own bedroom etc etc then it's maybe less needed as you can just use the TV whenever you want.
Even then though it's great to watch sports, tv series on TV and lay back gaming at same time.
Screen is shockingly good as well.
Very happy with mine for the price.
You need to stop giving sony a pass on 4 hour battery life. The elite series 2 has a 40 hour batttery life. I use it 1 1/2 weeks before i need to charge it

Bought an ASUS wifi router and I haven't had a problem since. Remote play with my Vita TV to my PS4 Pro is smooth.

Man, I usually agree with Blessing's takes but this time around, after everything he says about the Portal, I don't know how you could rate this higher than a 2/5. Just sounds like a poor experience for all but 25% of games. And those are great games but the general public is not buying this thing for Cocoon and Sea of Stars. They're buying it to play Spiderman 2 and God of War. And it sounds like those games would be acceptable under perfect conditions, and a poor experience in any other scenario. Which, for $200, just seems like a really bad value proposition to me.
But, to each their own I guess. If it works for you, great!
I have a portal on order but blowing hot and cold, love the fact it’s ergonomics are bang on and the big screen but the omission of Bluetooth and only WiFi 5 not 6 like the ps5 is a disappointment especially as i have a 6e network set up and I feel it would help when every one in the house is using the network. I was also planning on using my SS 7x headset which has a WiFi usb c dongle but seems like the dongle won’t work. Cmon Sony ! That’s BT and USB headset dongles not working. I refuse to use the ancient 3.5 mm jack. Sony have done this to push their ps link headphones. Absolute dick move!
I uave the INZone headphones and they do 2 simultaneous concurrent connections with Bluetooth and the USB dongle. They are overpriced though, even when they're on sale. Also, they have the laziest Bluetooth audio support I've ever seen in a Sony product.

All games use the touch pad as a menu button. So I'm sure the portal has some way of doing that

I think Blessing hit the nail on the head when he said the portal is a very niche product.
You can play *some* of your PS5 games (ones that don't require fast reflexes), *some* of the time (when you have a fast and stable internet connection).
I'll stick with my steam deck which can play any of my games offline at anytime, while also providing a similar remote play experience from my pc or ps5, with my Bluetooth headphones.
And if I want dualsense features I can just use a kickstand and connect my controller wirelessly as well.
Everyone that has kids are enjoying it.🤔
I would not buy a PS monitor. Yes, Sony makes TVs but just like how the headsets aren't made by the same division that makes the MX headsets.
Samsung and LG make most of these panels so go with them.

19.40 guy interjecting that you can play audio from 2 devices at once is incorrect, you can connect 2 bluetooth devices to the same device and play audio on both devices. thats not listening to two devices on one headset.. flipping scrub.
