Guarantee that center console was added after the police console was removed. I have a 2013 Interceptor Utility and did just that. You forgot to mention the extra support in the rear compartment to withstand a 75 mph rear collision. It is a great vehicle. Mine is not the twin ecoboost 3.5L. Mine has the 3.7L 6 spd.
Was it hard to add the console? I havnt been able to find a console exactly like the explorers! The one I won has a long huge metal piece coming from where the console would be into the back seat area! Did your have that and di you remove it? I want o carpet it and make it into a passager van! How reliable has your been! I read the worst reviews for reliabilty on these interceptors that I have ever read! 2 of 5 starts and last on the list of suvs. Explorers had a totally different review then the interceptors and much better which surprised the hell out of me!
Oh, you forgot to state that these have the worst headlights in the industry and Ford states there may be a recall if they get enough complaints?? Also, the replacement of the water pump will cost about $3,000. If you fail ot the agency failed to change the oil in the PTU (power transfer unit), every 31,000 miles it will fail by 80,000 miles. Beware of these costly issues. Moreover, the catalytic converters are subject to early failure.
Just picked up a 2015 Utility in black. good price and runs great. But it has some faults. #1 No key fobs, only came with 2 non chipped keys so your going to need a dealership program a key fob. #2 dome lights do not come on when doors are open, also something the dealership has to reprogram in the computer. #3 Mine did not come with any center console, just a metal plate on the ground but it leaves room for your own customization. #4 make sure before you buy one of these that the water pump hasnt failed or isnt leaking, The waterpump is internal and its a $2,000 repair and if you leave it unchecked it can ruin your engine.
For the Explorer and Taurus, no it’s absolutely not a good used car because of the water pump design. I would look for a Crown Victoria or a Tahoe. Plus the Crown Victoria is cheaper.
Really late to comment but I completely agree. I have a 2011 CVPI and been great for a most part besides some hiccups. And I just can’t believe how stupid the engineers were that all agreed that a water pump located in the engine and powered by the timing chain was the “great idea”
@@troyharrell622 2000-06 is the best years but any year Tahoe is fine. The first thing I would do after buying one from 2007 and up is to delete the AFM system and replace them with standard cams and lifters.
@@sterlingd97 Nice. Column shifters are my favorite. I saw a nice center counsol design for explorers which does not sacrifice knee room too. I think I one day when older may get one. Reminds me of the more utilitarian 1994-2005 Explorers. This is that counsol design: ua-cam.com/video/Nm9zwW_bu9M/v-deo.html
That center console wasn’t meant for that car. It was out of a civilian car with floor shift and added in to clean up the police bare-bones interiors. Usually police consoles are aftermarket and made of steel and are pretty rugged looking.
Some put that console in there after service, they come with a steel plate for there computer and other stuff, I’m sure that rear climate control does not work, I did the same in mine, put a console in form a reg Explorer
In my opinion, if you want more reliability, get the 3.7 instead of the 3.5. No turbochargers to go out, more working space, and more reliable overall.

I don't believe this is the Michigan State Police Car. This color is in their police brochure. MSP has a derker color and their hods have holes in them from the hood sign. I didn't see any hood repair?
I have a chance to bid on a 2014 ford police interceptor with 182000 miles on it. What would you think is a good deal. It really looks like it's in great shape and has been maintained by a private company. Thanks for any response. Great Video!
I just did that exact thing with a few fewer miles than yours. I LOVE IT. Currently watching so that I can keep learning about it. Mine was completely stripped though so there is no center console and there's space for a third row but there are no seats. I drove it all the way home and it's the best thing I've driven so far.
My friends mom used to drive a Ford explorer of this generation but she had to sell it because people kept thinking she was a cop and they would slow down in front of her on purpose
i just won a bid on ebay and cant decide wheter or not to follow through! I know I should have checked into things b4 I bid BUt I will be paying 7,200(after shipping) with no rear seat and no console. The van looks like a mess with this metal thing going through where the console is and all the way through to where I would put the back seats in! I am not even sure if I can convert this van into a passenger van! How did the ride feel without having the carpeting? Another reason I am not so sure is the reviews of it on one site had it listed 26th of 26 midsize suvs! Scarry! I think that it has its own reviews versus the explorer itself! The reliability was 2 of 5 starts!
Super cool that you got to drive it! When I found this cop car - ua-cam.com/video/oWqz_dw5sNg/v-deo.html it didn't have the belly button and just that bare bones metal shelf. Pretty sure that was someone's attempt to "civilize" it
Its kinda funny that you just made up whatever for the console 🤣 the dealership or whoever else owned the car after the department added that console. That was 1000% not in the car in its service life
My center console was changed before I got it from the dealer I bought it from who I went to high school with. Also, mine has original carpeting with the peg snap carpet protectors that I took out of the car.
I found one for sale down here in TN just like this one same color and everything and it was definitely a police vehicle. I dunno about this one though.
Fun fact: this was an old Michigan state police car and the center console was ripped out of a regular explorer once the car was put out of service
then... why the laptop hole?
@@Commissar0617 thats actually where the drive mode dial would go in a regular explorer
Was just about to comment this
@@dalegribble3684 yes like on mine had rut mode sand mode normal mode etc etc
Im about to find out if, getting the law enforcement harness for the console will let me run the 4wd selector switch.

A buddy of mine thought the only way to know about all of this was to get arrested.
Or talk to a police officer

The Crown Vic is the new Pinto. The gas tank is behind the axle. Buyer beware.
Built in fleshlight
Love having the pocket in mine for the old shifter, use it for a phone holder or wallet holder. Fits perfectly
And nowdays column shifters are commonly used to hold masks too!

I just bought a 2015 with 114K on the odometer fairly cheaply. Also a former MI State Police vehicle. So far I'm liking it...
Same here. Got a 2014 with 115k miles in good condition, 3.7 engine. $3,500
The reason why they have that it used to be a police center console to a regular explorer center console

Nice rx7 in the beginning of the vid, anyway my mom has a 15’ 3.7 and it’s pretty nice for what it is
does it have a backup camera??
the subtitles are BROKEN, but otherwise awesome vid! I wonder why the ecoboost PIU (2011-2015) has a different grille to the 3.7?

The center console is after market, or well for the explorer just after the pd stuff was out, and that circle was for a rotate shift thing i think

Hey Zach would you happen to know what the light bar on the black interceptors push bar in the B-roll
Civilian cars have roof rails, trunk lock isn’t visible and very little black plastic on the exterior
That's not the actual OEM center console for the FPIU, that console was ripped out of a regular Explorer.
Him pretending he’s arrested in the back seat😭💀
Are there locks on the wheel or can anyone change the tires
