    I make a balm that heals hotspots in 24 - 48 hours. its beeswax, honey, calendula, rosemary EO, sage EO, Lavender EO and lemongrass EO. It removes the itch instantly (for mozzie bites and itchy bits in humans too) so they stop licking and the hotspot dries out within 24 hours. I apply the balm about 4 times within 24 hours then leave it - Redness and sore skin goes in 48 hours. I have a chow chow and it has never not worked for us.

      Will you share the amount of each ingredients and how you make the balm? Thank you

      Sure, I don't really have a fixed recipe. I use a ratio of about 1:4 beeswax to calendula oil. (the calendula oil is basically dried calendula flowers steeped in a small jar of sunflower oil, I think you can buy this ready made but it's easy enough to do yourself) adjust the ratio above to however runny or hard you want the balm ie more beeswax equals more solid balm. I only heat the beeswax as I believe that heating destroys a lot of the benefits of the ingredients, then as i whip in the calendula oil and a good couple of tablespoons of honey its hardens into a balm. I think the Honey is the really important ingredient. Then i whip in a couple of drops of the essential oils each. My chow smells really 'herby' when i plaster it on a hotspot but it doesn't sting or burn at all so she really doesn't mind it and it removes the itch from hotspots instantly @@vangi1014

      Isn’t EOs toxic? Definitely to cats but I thought to dogs as well

    • @Heather-fd4fo
      @Heather-fd4fo 3 місяці тому

      @@barbaracostello9108 I don't believe so. There are many preparations and shampoos etc for dogs and cats containing herbs and herbal extracts which is essentially what EO's are and indeed many pet foods contain herbs and herbal extracts. in large amounts they are toxic to anyone but they are highly unlikely to be more toxic than many of the steroid creams and shots and other pharmaceuticals you gets from the vet or chemist. If you are concerned about this, try the balm without the EO's. as I said, I think Honey is the important ingredient

    Your the best. I will make sure and mention your channel to as many dog owners I meet. We love our vet and go only as needed. But we really love safe home remedies.

    Also need to keep your dog from licking the hotspot or it will take forever to heal if it heals at all. My dog had hotspot on her rear leg that she would not leave alone, so I put some wound cream on and then placed an old crew sock on the leg and held it up with some elastic sprain wrap that athletes use. At night I placed a soft cone around her head since I could not monitor her. In the the morning I took the cone off. I did this for about a week and it healed and she then left it alone. It is important to devise a way to prevent the licking.

      Licking is the most problematic for me. My dog just won't stop licking. Putting a cone on him at night doesn't work. He won't sleep and he keeps waking me up so I can remove the cone

      @@vangi1014 Another thing you might try is a dog mesh muzzle it keeps them from licking and it's not as bad as the cone. If you google it you will find many to choose from, just make sure you size it correctly.

    Great tip. My vet gave me a prescription spray for hot spots that did not work. Good old fashioned happy jack spray did the trick.

    I've found that diaper rash cream (zinc cream) works wonders overnight even, also. 🐾💖😘 (Always clean the area first, like Dr. Jones says)

    Let me start with I love your videos but I'm a little concerned by the aspirin dose in the tea especially if someone has a small dog that licks a lot. I think using a baby aspirin 81mg I think is the mg would be safer.

    I have a senior female indoor cat that has inflammed balding skin on her hind back close to her tail. I believed it was caused by a flea allergy, she has flea protection and I have not found any fleas on her but she will not leave it alone and its been over a month. Wondering if there is a solution that works on cats?

    Can I please ask a couple of questions?
    We have 3 cats for around 4 yrs. They were put out as kittens. We love them very much. But, financially, I can't afford regular vet visits. We had them fixed. Now we also have additional cat that was put out about a year ago. He has also been fixed.
    My questions are one of the older cats beats the youngest up so bad his head stays scabbby/bloody. Any idea how to prevent this? Also, one cat I was checking their flea collars to see if they were getting to tight. He must be allergicall his hair was gone where it lay. How will I prevent fleas for him? Any OTC for the bald area?

    This works !!! My dog gets them every year and I did this also so it can heal I had to put on the cone :/ so he didn’t itch or lick it. But people this works no more of my German Shepard taking shots for this unless it’s real bad. Wallmart hair trimmer, cleaned it up gentley and applied what he made and within 3 days one hotspot healed another came and I applied then another and I applied all healed gone no shot
