I remember watching a video about the importance of making your bed as told by military instructors and I think it kind of relates to what you're saying in that it gets the ball rolling on whatever tasks you have for the rest of the day by accomplishing something small.
Saying this from my burner account because of the sensitive content. However, I use walking my dog as my cue and after a 10-12 hour study day I reward myself by indulging in Mary Jane. I know it's not sustainable up to clinicals but for now it's working. I think this way to do things is very useful, it ALMOST makes me excited to study.
this video is worth the 16 min of my life. I don't really do review but this video is truly worth it. it has earned my subscribe and like. I have never shared a video in my entire life (except mine). but I shared this video to every single friend that I have
This was great! I'm in the throes of finals in the fall semester of my senior year, and it has been rough! I'm taking the MCAT next semester and I am so grateful for your insight and that you've taken the time to share. Cheers!
Ah the timing couldn't have been more perfect! Thank you Mo for your great advice all along. I have been following your videos closely for years, your tips and textbook recommendations and it has served me well.. finishing up second year med school in a few months. And many Congratulations on getting into Neurology residency! Very well deserved.. you're going to make an amazing physician! :) Best, always.
God bless you, I just got accepted into the nursing program at Adelphi, I just turned 20 as well and I have no idea how to manage my time! thank you for this video :D
Don't listen to those other people. You do what you want. Not everyone can or wants to be a doctor and you shouldn't let people persuade you to do anything. Becoming a doctor is a huge career choice and path. It's not as easy as just "go further and finish it, who cares!". Obviously people who say that are doing it for the money and not for the passion otherwise they wouldn't make it out to be like it's easy and everyone should just do it instead of being a nurse. Nurses are great and very appreciated. Why spend way more time and money on becoming a doctor if that's not your passion? good luck! :)
Seriously don't listen to people asking why you don't do med school instead...being a nurse and being a doctor are extremely different jobs. It's about the equivalent of asking why you're not going to be a marine biologist instead...they're just different things, and you should go with whatever you feel the most called to. Plus, some of the best people I know are nurses :)
Great vid, doc! My brother bought the book you're talking about and said it's great. I've heard from many other people that it's life changing. I'd also like to add that a good reward for situations like this is writing down what our end goal is and WHY we are trying to accomplish the specific goal. Then reading it everyday right before we start studying (or doing whatever other activity) we are trying to do is a great way to add this routine into our "cue." This can work by looking at the reminder in the form of a screensaver on our smartphones, on a sticky note we stick onto a wall in our room or desk, or on our laptops. When we're in the middle of trying to follow a routine and get unmotivated it's always a great reminder to remember why we started in the first place and how good it will feel when we reach our end goal. Thanks for tips in the video, they were helpful! God bless!
thanks so much for making this video! i love your approach to this - you have such a great personality (chill, humble, straightforward) and it makes it easy to tune in to :)
Finally? Ive been searchin' around for this stuff and finally found the right thing. Without habit, Doc, i suppose you need a lot of willpower and motivation to study. But once you have a habit, it becomes easier. I am doing Pre Med in Pakistan. And hope to become a Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon one day :) .
Great advice, thanks for this. I recently moved universities and I'm finding hard to study at the new library , were as in the old university i had a specific place i used to go everyday to study and it was much more efficient/easier to start studying. Now i know why i have trouble studying, and the solution to it.
loving it gonna try it out on my second year university. i have problem with keep reading and am quite addict to game since i have been play it since i was 7 years old.
Hi Doc, I recently graduated from undergrad with a degree in business and I am considering going back to school to finish the pre-reqs for medical school. I noticed you said that you have an MBA. My question to you is, what made you decide to switch from studying business to medical school? Thank you so much and I really enjoy your channel. -Oscar
Some good info but too much rambling overall. Since many of us are already procrastinating watching this instead of studying, we need something quick to motivate us to go back to studying.
Doc... Great work. All your videos are great. Many are longer than required. All your videos if they were shorter and condensed would have been more fruitful and more people would watch it. First thing people look at in a video is the time duration of the video... anything more than 3 minutes is avoided by many due to lack of time in their busy schedule.
The reward I would really like to have everyday while I make these habits, is buy many foods 😍😂 If I procastinate then no snacks for a day 😂 Thank you, you really helped me alot. I'm currently studying Accounting and procatinating is always tempting so I always end up not doing anything and not seriously studying because of the habit of procastination that I've created. But I really want to change that, 'cause if I don't do it now. I might regret it especially when I'm thinking about on shifting my course into Med. I need a good grade to enter med school 😭❤️ Thank youuu!
a good habit system that i use is, i get home from class, i study/do hw/whatever, eat dinner. eating a good healthy meal is a GREAT reward for studying, especially when you're hungry and need to finish a project!
In my country, especially my school. We have will wake up at 4am to study, pray and having breakfast. Then at 8am go to class. It was hard when I first enter but surprisingly its works okay!
it's really not. if u find a less trafficked area of the library, or just a desk at your home, or really anywhere, you can study there every time. what's so difficult about that?
The power of habit... 1. exercise... have a routine 2.habit loop...wake up and do something everyday... like wake up and go to the gym.. 3.routine.. queue. habit reward...like sense of satisfaction For studies 1.cardinal habit.. exercise.. gym... then eat healthy Get a queue.. like i wake up ...and start studying...... MAIN POINT... make a routine...
It's easier to say than to do, it isn't easy to make a routinely habit when you get presentations, assignments, reports and other distracting requirements to do for the college
Thanks! But, I've got a bit of a problem. I was thinking p that I should start getting up earlier and study then, but then, what if I don't have enough time to reward myself? Also, I can't think of anything to reward myself. A hobby of mine is gaming, but at the moment I've pretty well finished all the games I have, and the next one I want doesn't come out till next year. Any ideas?
DocOssareh you have any suggestion for new hobbies or games? I'm thinking of going with the early morning thing and I'm not a very active person. I do like creative, action RPGs and fantasy games. Not that into shooters though. I love story based games. Love the feels.
SmileWidePro that's a good idea. I wouldn't mind playing through Kingdom Hearts 2 again. That was a damn good game. I must have replayed it at least 50 times now and it still has t got old. May I ask what "face" is though? Actually, come to think of it, I could play through the Final Fantasy X series. I haven't even finished the first game yet and I must have had it for over a year now.
Hi! I have a hard time studying fast, to process the infos, to get it to your brain. Like I'm spending and hour for only one page of the book. Like it's so hard to focus. What are your tips for it?
but when what we do become habit , we will lose your concentrationand , that will be juste somthing you must do evryday with any importance , am I wrong ?
Get a small container and write on scraps of paper a couple activities you enjoy. Next use Dr Moe's advice by studying for an hour and taking a 5-10 minute break. Then during your break pick out an activity from the container and do it, if it's a longer activity save it for your final reward 🙂
I think a great "reward" after studying is going to official, high-level publications and reading interesting research with newfound, deeper understanding. I subscribe to JAMA and other publications on Facebook and enjoy commenting on the articles when I understand them :)
This vedio is for people who already have the internal intention to study
+Lookfor theTruth lol! Very true!
haha
+DocOssareh congrats, i like ur vids
i couldnt agree more!
cuz nobody can't do something with efficiency if they resent it.....
I literally need this...literally now
i really need to get back to studying...
SURE TAKE MY SCHOOL DAYS
Actually video start 2:35
Thank me later
I always reward myself without doing anything :D
lol me toooo
Amany Abo-Aly lol me too

Hi! Nurse student here. I can relate so much with all this!
Thank you so much, this videos are awesome!
Cue: Assessment due in 24 hours
Reward: Not failing

The idea of a cue had never crossed my mind . It totally makes sense.Great video. Thanks
it´s really admirable that you're helping other med-students in the world full of competitive people .. thank you, salute from Slovakia

What book?
thanks so much for making this video! i love your approach to this - you have such a great personality (chill, humble, straightforward) and it makes it easy to tune in to :)
Dr Ossareh, truly appreciate all the guidance you have given me. Thanks for your empathy and sharing your knowledge.
Kudos from Puerto Rico.
This one's the one I was looking forward to

Hey you're awesome... and your voice is nice to hear . Keep up the great work!!!
+Adarsh VA thanks for the message! Glad you're part of the community
Thanks Doc. I wish I had known this sooner. And it makes sense. You work out and eat healthy- reward is cheat meal.
The power is in the ‘cue’ and ‘reward’ ...
Thank so much, I'm so lazy to start studying, I'll apply this rule to motivate myself
Great advice, thanks for this.

I've been putting off reading that book, I'm definitely gonna go through it before school starts next month. Really helpful video, thanks a lot!

I'm trying to modify my habits and this video helped me with some tips. Thank you 😊💖
This really changed my routine....Thanks for the change....worth a watch.... recommended this to everyone 👍
Currently taking notes on most of your videos before starting my med school post Bach program....Love the content! Learning how to learn from you🤓😊
lol u watch his video too
Omgosh, you busted me 😳! Lol
😂😂😂
Some good info but too much rambling overall.

Spring09 motivation is temporary, building habits is key

Hey Dr. Ossareh. Thanks for your great videos. I have been watching you since I started undergrad three years ago.

You are a hero Mo! I think you already know this though.
Thank you for your precious advice
Awesomely explained.
Thanks a lot.
This was very helpful!! Thank you!
Wow it was a amazing video
It really helped me to boost my energy 🍀
Thank you so much, this is really helpful.
Great video! Thanks for the tips.
How do u get the same exact spot EVERY time?! That seems impossible to me lol
it's really not. if u find a less trafficked area of the library, or just a desk at your home, or really anywhere, you can study there every time. what's so difficult about that?
Timing. Usually everyone who study at the library is more or less consistent with timing.

my medical school is abroad and they are not teaching anything, how to approach USMLE step 1 in this situation?
Thank u sooooo much, ur video helps me a lot 💗💗💗💗💗🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🍰🍰🍰🍰

Would you consider doing a video on study tips?
thank you for the video Doc
i really need this in my life right now!
at 3:30 - what's with the sound in the background? (using earpods)
+Prasanna Sayami truck

Nice video! I found what i needed the most thank you!
Thank you very much!
This helped a lot, thank you.

+The Lone Dreamer try a new hobby. Get a new game. Anything will work as a reward!
DocOssareh you have any suggestion for new hobbies or games? I'm thinking of going with the early morning thing and I'm not a very active person. I do like creative, action RPGs and fantasy games. Not that into shooters though. I love story based games. Love the feels.
throw back, play old games like the original fable.
SmileWidePro that's a good idea. I wouldn't mind playing through Kingdom Hearts 2 again. That was a damn good game. I must have replayed it at least 50 times now and it still has t got old. Why we can't study
ua-cam.com/video/pcxRk8x0v3c/v-deo.html
You mentioned that you listen to the audiobook, what app do you use and recommend?
Great video!
Hi! I have a hard time studying fast, to process the infos, to get it to your brain. Like I'm spending and hour for only one page of the book. Like it's so hard to focus. What are your tips for it?
What can a pre-med student do if he is discouraged by the amount of study in his first year of undergrad
How come you do MBA if you are a Medical student??
but when what we do become habit , we will lose your concentrationand , that will be juste somthing you must do evryday with any importance , am I wrong ?
Get a small container and write on scraps of paper a couple activities you enjoy. Next use Dr Moe's advice by studying for an hour and taking a 5-10 minute break. Then during your break pick out an activity from the container and do it, if it's a longer activity save it for your final reward 🙂
Yesss I agree thank you
Started liking your videos more and more everyday. 😍 How I wish I discovered your channel earlier.

That was very helpful, Thank you so much ,,,
Hi Doc. Do you offer mentorship? Tutoring?
that sounds good but I don't think it will work for me since my finals are in less than a month
great video, thanks a lot :)
feeling totally messed up step 1 in a month havnt studied in since 3 days .....i need to go bck to stdies bt dont feel like!!!
Wow ! thank's a lot...
DocOssareh Why morning gym w/o breakfast first? Body is low on glucose after sleep.
To burn fat i guess. Also fat is the most used energy source despite the glucose
tysm!!
I think a great "reward" after studying is going to official, high-level publications and reading interesting research with newfound, deeper understanding. I subscribe to JAMA and other publications on Facebook and enjoy commenting on the articles when I understand them :)
If that were my "reward" I would probably fail out of medical school lol. To each his/her own.

I just love your videos .. thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks a lot
