I have a lot of things I don't like about this season, but this decision wasn't one of them. As a book reader and a tv show watcher, Dany has been a character that has unsettled me for a long time. While I ultimately do think this is her fate in the books, the tv show writers kinda ruined everything by rushing - they honestly should've at least had two more seasons of this show in order for things to progress like they should've and to give characters time to develop (or regress in terms of Daenerys) instead of doing complete 360 in the span of only two episodes
Even though this is the direction I wanted to see her go in, it is bittersweet to say goodbye to the part of her that was good - the part I rooted for multiple times. I'm sad to see her go down the road she's tried so hard to avoid, but I do think her character ending up this was is inevitable. - Розваги
Her Dornish allies. Her allies from High Garden. Then Viserion. Then Jorah, then Rhaegal. Then Missandei.
She stops listening to her advisors.
Jon refuses to be with her.
She is alone in the world.
And a Targaryen, alone in the world... is a terrible thing.

Missandei wasn't treated badly the was imprisoned and later executed almost same way dany did to the Tarlys. So Cerci didn't do anything out of the ordinary there.
So there was nothing out of the ordinary to get her that mad.

That was how the dothraki used to look at her brother back when she first married drogo and she saw the same venom in the eyes of the slaves in astapor as they looked at their masters. "Never me" Dany had told herself the day she freed them, "they'll never have to look at me that way". A single tear rolled down her cheek and with it the conflict within.
The fire returned within her as she opened her eyes. Dany felt strangely at ease as if all her life had led her to this moment. "If they won't love me" she assured herself, "they will fear me".

I watched it because I could tell from s1 that Jon and Dany would be endgame and saw their parallels. Both were nobody in the beginning, one sold off to be wed, the other sent off to wither away at the wall. I saw that Dany would become a villain as early as s2 and waited for it to happen. Jon would become a hero and I predicted that he would become king beyond the wall as far back as when Mance was still alive. Turns out I was pretty much on the money. I'm sure he took leadership of the free folk up north after he was banished.
Oh those Viserys quotes really hit me..

All she did was burn a single city ANY OTHER ruler burned more and pillaged more and yet they aren’t called mad, it’s not her fault she was a Targaryen. She followed the advice of arguably the wisest woman in Westeros *”Be a Dragon”*

She over came obstacle after obstacle after obstacle to survive in Essos when given the opportunity to sale back to Drangonstone and leave suffering behind she stayed because she know there were problems bigger than the iron throne. So they are saying because there was so much incest within the Targaryen house (remember, they married brother to sister for generations) that genetically, they have a disposition to have deformations.. even mentally.
Hence why in the past, many Targaryen's went insane. They have a genetic predisposition to going insane. Or just being mentally unstable.
And so that saying was created to explain that. "The god's flip a coin everytime a Targaryen is born." Meaning 50% chance at being healthy, sane and kind. And 50% at going insane. And being born mentally unstable somehow.

Dany's story was so beautifully tragic. If she was always intended to be a villain, then she's probably the most loved villain in fiction.

Rage, undiluted sorrow filled, fire sparking rage surged to the surface of her once gentle heart. Turned to stone at the cost of war and ripped apart a every soft moment. A brief tug on her bond with her child and a silent command were all it took for Drogons flames to engulf the kingdom whole, destroying everything in it's path.

This is amazing and honestly made me feel sorry for her in a way. She wanted home and to be loved more than anything. And those very people she thought were waiting for her in reality hate her and are scared of her. It doesn't help she's been told she's some special god and everything she wants will happen. It's a shame she couldn't let go of the throne and just live a happy life.

I guess if people had hoped that Daenerys had lived up to her many titles over the series, that the series would have ended with her and maybe Jon, sat on the Iron Throne ruling over a moral kingdom. This was never GRRM's/the show's style though. Personally, my own theory about how the story would end was the idea that 'the realm' was always a lie and would be destroyed one way or another. Littlefinger told us this way back in 'A Game of Thrones,' repeated in the tv series. By this, I mean that the idea of the 7 kingdoms only started 300 years ago (nothing in the history of Westeros) by Aegon the Conqueror when he united the kingdoms by the threat of killing them all with dragons. Since then, the more pertinent question would be: why did the 7 kingdoms (an area roughly the size of South America) accept being ruled from king's landing after the dragons were gone? The answer is the lie of the realm, and the whole 'game' played by the ruling families. For myself, there were two potential 'satisfying' endings to this problem: Firstly, the darker ending where the night king wins and Westeros is physically destroyed (pretty depressing I know and ruled out anyway) and secondly where Daenerys and co actually do 'break the wheel' and end the whole charade of someone sitting on the bloody throne in the first place - where Westeros ends up as a continent of separate kingdoms and cities, without one tyrant ruling over millions of people. I think Daenerys is actually fulfilling her character arc (although I reckon if GRRM ever does end the books he'll do it in a more satisfying and fleshed out way) - the only thing that remains is for her to be finished off, alongside the whole ridiculous idea of 'the realm' in the first place. Sorry for the long comment - I've expanded on an earlier comment but this actually needs expanding a lot more than this but I hope you get the idea.

So, I was partially right - I was disappointed only the north went independent. The system wasn't smashed. I did laugh at the "should I ask my horse?" comment in regards to a democratic Westeros. They're definitely not ready for that but I had hoped the idea of the realm died with Daenerys (and the stupid chair ^^)

@@Bakuru To be fair, she didn't *have* to do it that way. That was the point; she had won and had no need to burn the entire city... but she did anyway. I do think you are right, though - she needed the armies and the alliances in order to take King's Landing without burning it. I honestly feel it was a matter of her dragon decimating their defenses *and* her armies pouring into the city, and holding the line that led to them surrendering. Had it just been the dragon, I doubt they would've even thought surrender was an option.
I actually felt it was rather fitting with what we had seen, so far from Dany, though. You have a ruler with a god complex ("He was no dragon. Fire can not kill a dragon"; and "All men must die, but we are not men.") who has felt that everyone has conspired against her. She even goes so far as to say she feels the people of Westeros would rather see Jon on the throne than her. As they state in the after-episode talk, that sense of isolation is a dangerous thing in someone with that much power. Throw in the fact that Cersei just executed what amounted to Dany's best friend in front of her, after killing one of her children... and then put her in a position where she holds all the cards... yeah, I can easily see her flipping that switch.
At this point I don’t think Dany cares for the iron throne she wants revenge for what happen to the people she lost and loved! I don’t commend what she did to the people, she could have simply aim at the Lannister army and Cersei and be done, but she was far too gone to care anymore.
The path taken by this character is as incredible as it is tragic, for me it has been the best of GOT, Daenerys could have conquered the world and i would continue to love her, she will be my queen forever!!🐉🔥
Danearys will always be remembered for the strong character she has played throughout the series. A heroine who was being destroyed throughout the series.

Alexander Hansen well, I always thought she was a grey character who struggles to make the right decisions. There were no hints that she would go crazy over bells and burn civilians.

Just take the throne after killing Cersie and expect everyone will just accept her? The people of Westeros view her as a foreign conqueror at best. And she knows Sansa might try to undermine her claim to the throne since she now knows the truth about Jon, who by the way, most people would back over Dani. At this point the only card she had left to play was to beat everyone into submission and make it completely clear what would happen if people didn’t accept her as the one true queen.
In the end, Aemon was right. At least they shouldn’t have rushed the whole Mad Queen arc.

She's always done sweeping punishments, punishing every single master in the city, making no distinction between the good and the bad, for example a master who tried to stop the others from crucifying the slaves. She doesn't care about that. Or when she wanted to feed all the nobles to her dragons because she knew some of them were bad. She doesn't care about punishing the good along with the bad. And now the same as how she burnt all of kings landing. She's actually really dumb like her IQ must be around 70 that she can never make a distinction first before deciding to hand out a punishment.

But after you rewatch GoT you have to recognize the hints D&D has given to us from every season towards the mad queen story line. the hints? {1}no emotions towards her brother? before the marriage he said 'i would let the all dothraki fuck her for the throne' {2} slave master crucifixion? before entering the city dany had to march along 160 or 106 children crucified to warn her and when she won she did the same to the masters. (3) tarly's? they betrayed their lord and killed olena tyrell (allies of dany) and she even offers them to join her! but refused.(4) the burned khals?who said they will all gang rape her and let the horses join as well , those khals? . DD rushed it and turned her in one episode, this should have been a gradual development and the fans would have understood it but not like this. anyways next week all of us are going to lose out
Denis 2012 there are more hints than this. Her vision in season 2, Brans vision in season 4. Her talking about burning cities to the ground since her dragons were born. Even more talk of this in season 7. Tyrion spending a whole season getting her to think of a more peaceful approach. Dany burning sam’s family after surrendering. Her obsession of having Jon bend the knee. All without flinching or showing emotion. She’s had crazy ideas this whole time and characters have talked about how crazy the Tragarians are known to be throughout the show. Sure she has a good side but they’ve been setting up evil Dany the whole time. Im surprised people are so shocked by this

getting mad. the visions and characters talking how targaryens are mad does not suffice what happened . in that case john should never be king either even though varys and others think he should be because he does not want it and has honour. lets be real he is dumb and has never won a battle. been killed, saved by sansa and twice by dany so why would he be a good king. he will die within a week. setting up evil dany at the same time making her a saviour? if they were expecting a red wedding it did not happened because its to late with one episode left.they did it so john(hero) can have a reason to stab her in the back (queen slayer) shock. six seasons for dany to build an army(with hints of evil to some) and one episode for mad queen.
btw sams family were the tarly's who betrayed olena and choose cersei and were defeated . dickon tarly (sams brother) states he knew and trained with the people he killed when sacking highgarden and dany gives them a choice but somehow dany is mad. since tyrion joined dany he has failed and cost dany all of her friends/allies. our enemy is slowly killing us but we need to show restraint because we are saints! before the reveal john had to bend the knee to the rightful queen(dragon)and he still has too after all the sacrifice she has done for him and the north. saving john' s ass 2 times and most of her dothraki killed for the north . if she said i wont help unless you bend the knee then it would be different or waiting it out in dragonstone just like cersei.
burning cities to the ground? she threatened qarth after they refused her entry and were going to leave dany(dothraki) to starve. beg ,intimidate or sell her body? the only city she burned before kings was astapor(slave city) where she got the unsullied. thanks for reply i just cant believe it how they did it, was not expecting a happy fairy tail but not like this. it would have been better for night king, jamie or the mounatin to kill dany . real real shock

We justify Dany's turn to villany, thinking we can find a reason for the madness or else we blame the show for 'ruining' her character. But what we forget is, every villain finds a way to justify their actions, they all think they are doing the right thing. What Game of Thrones did so well early on was tell us that everything has consequences. Ned Stark for holding honor above all else, Robb Stark for breaking his vows, Oberyn for being too arrogant, Arya for seeking vengeance and breaking faith with the Faceless Men- everyone (both the heroes and the villains) are punished in this show for the choices they make. The penultimate episode I suppose is a way of punishing us (the audience) for our blood thirst. We have cheered when whole families have been butchered, when men and women have died and been burnt.
It was difficult to watch because it showed us how "villains" are made. How people like Tyrion, Jon, etc pledge allegiance to someone, they believe in their cause and justify all the crazy things they do. The way we justified Dany's worst impulses was the same way that Jamie justified Cersei's worst impulses. The way that we have been justifying her actions, thinking we can decide who is innocent, who isn't, who gets to be a hero/liberator and who is the villain. It is a subversion of what we justify to ourselves when we think war is necessary. We cheered for 9 years for someone who was on her way to being the greatest villain of this show. Sure she had great and lofty ideas- but most villains do. They all think of better worlds and revolutions. You can't justify death, destruction, violence, vengeance, entitlement and blood-thirst with the promise of what Dany says she will do. She fails because at the heart of all of that, she heralds herself as a hero and a champion- who is born to rule, to take the 7 Kingdoms, who must be obeyed.
She is a tragic villain, no doubt- because what she wants at the end is love and loyalty- even if she doesn't always deserve it. And that is why, she loses at the end, because as she says the only thing she has is unshakeable Faith in herself. Even when she knows Jon is the rightful heir. When she knows she should heed Sansa's advice about resting their troops. When she knows she shouldn't unleash her dragons on innocent people. When she knows that the alliances she makes- the Dothraki with their pillaging and the Ironborn with their raping and reaving can potentially leave more destruction than she bargained for. I'm also reminded of her time in Slaver's Bay, where she essentially came in to be a liberator, and then left a messy, fractured state- probably worse off than when she came in. Real change, takes time and effort- you can't rely on armies and dragons alone.
Still, I will say that Dany has sacrificed a lot. She has gone through great trials and tribulations and everything has brought her to this point. Where she doesn't break the wheel, she becomes more of the same. I have to say though, I can't help but feel a deep sadness every time I see the young, naive and early Dany. She could have been the greatest ruler that ever was. She had that in her. And she loses. And that is, in my mind, the greatest tragedy of the Mad Queen.

She always had that darkness in her. But like her overzealous supporters in the show. We, the audience turned a blind eye to it.

I was just listening to COK earlier..she was talking about how beautiful Westeros is. She’s never seen it before, but Viserys told her it’s the most beautiful place in the world 🌎..she wants fat men and beautiful maids in her kingdom..such a drastic change from then to now.
