This is so beautiful. My Oma survived the famine and was marched as a prisioner of war to Poland by the Germans, she went west to Germany, then Canada after WW2. Her mother went East and lived and died in the caves of Kazakhstan.. Thank-you for this video and the museum. There is so much the younger generations don't know.
Well done. Very interesting history. I am descended from the Mennonites. Although we are called Germans from Russia, we are actually not of German descent. Our origins are Dutch, the Netherlands, Holland, Belgium. Our history is migratory due to religious persecution. The first migration was to Prussia, where the German language was aquired, then South Russia (now Ukraine). Our language is Plautdietsch, an amalgum of Dutch, low German (distinct from the high German spoken in Germany) and English. It is quite well preserved in many communities around the world.
Your work is stunning! We know the story from the Mennonite perspective, but to hear this from YOUR side is truly extraordinary, heart-warming and delightful! THANK YOU for all the hard work you put into this! It sure makes me feel like visiting Uzbekistan.
