Great keyboards. I have the Ultranova and the fantastic Mininova. Both great and simple to use. I've had a few other makes, but nothing matches the construction, sounds and the simplicity of Novation.
Korg XD is good but you are comparing a 4 voice synth to 18 voices....I assure you the ultranova is a endless pit of possibilities and it has performance features that are still unmatched and after touch, I think they are not comparable. Ultranovas are only sold used for 200 plus range so the xd is more expensive.
@@TranceElevation pointless to you perhaps but then again why would you split key zones on a 37 key synth to begin with? Pair it with something else like most professionals.
@@soundvapor I meant that you can't use more than 1 instance of it inside the daw. Otherwise I recognize its powerful sound, but such limitation is a dealbreaker.
Not big on Novation boards (this one caught my eye though) but REALLY APPRECIATE the silent review...REALLY I do. There arent enough if them out there.
It would almost be worth getting this synthesizer for almost all of the non arpeggiated patches (not that there's anything wrong with them). They sound so rich and would be real fitting for some of the original music I've been trying to make that reflects on progressive rock.
Nope, it's very shallow menu diving. Depending on the button you press (oscillator, filter, lfo, amp etc) the knobs are mapped to parameters relevant to which ever button you pressed.
You should, it's an awesome synth. It's a menu diver but it's very intuitive and can create some awesome sounds, except for deep bass, seems like it was programmed so as not to compete with the bass station. This has never bothered me much as i have other synths that do basses well.
You can use a set of computer speakers into the headphone output, this synth doesn't need a computer to be played. And lastly It doesn't have drum sounds on board but syncs with other gear very easily.
After 4 years, my Ultra is distoting [in a bad digital clipping way] when changing Filter and Resonance values or just outright from the get go. Does anyone know how to fix this?
@@jumpingman8160 So much for a cheap and simple solution. You're obviously looking at a hardware issue. Syntaur is a good source for parts. AND WHAT THE DIFFERENCES ARE BETWEEN THE TWO? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
A really good synth, now out of production. I would have bought this synth but it does not panning of oscillators, for a digital stereo synth to leave this off it is of no use to me for recording. Yes,, we can use delays and reverbs to get a stereo field, but it is not as powerful as using effects with panned oscillators. The Roland Gaia is a better choice than the UltraNova...and now we finally have some great choices in digital with the HydraSynth, Korg WaveState, and Rolands new ZenCore is supposed to sound fantastic.
@@sistersatori the Gaia is like 100X worse than the Ultra, if the lack of panning oscillators is the only drawback on the ultra...it has dozens of other features that the Gaia can't match

People need to learn to stfu and just let the synth talk. Agree.
"No talking" is the best, no explanation, get to the point
I don't mind talking if the sections are clearly seperated. One half or 3/4 playing, then talking.
Its a great synth, really good value and highly recommended
Apart from the great sounds the UN can produce it has a very nice keybed as well so can be used as a decent midi controller !

Agreed! With well executed aftertouch -- one of the important improvements over the MiniNova.

The arpeggiated ones are the BEST for me...try Ozric and relatives, they play always Novation gear cause of them...
Are these factory presets...?
Yes!
Not many knobs and no sliders.....does that mean lots of menu diving? Sounds great and has a great key action from what I have read.
Nope, it's very shallow menu diving. Depending on the button you press (oscillator, filter, lfo, amp etc) the knobs are mapped to parameters relevant to which ever button you pressed.
Beautiful sounds. I have the mininova.
What is the preset at 4:50 called ? and what is the preset at 5:09 called ?
Super awesome ✅✅✅

Its so good. I've had it since 2013
i got this a year before my jd xa ...its amazing ... and i shot myself again with the xa ... what i really want is a hectare of tweakable hardware
I can still produce these sounds in my korg triton with programming filters.
Agree. Bro how powerful is the Triton. Too bad we can't install a HDD to the classic.
You knew 2 years in advance the riff from Shakira #53 song?
The centre piece of my rig atm. Love it. Standing between the 309 and the Electribe SmkII. Just waiting for the TD-3 and the Pro 1 to fill the gaps.

Can this play in stand alone. Is this plug and play?
Is a synth, you can use with on board sounds and also as a master for plug in with your daw
Great sounding, fun little synth. Awful display: no angle adjustment, and there’s “flash lighting” around the edges.
