    • @LeloTheUnamused
      @LeloTheUnamused 6 років тому

      The "Africans chopping people in the streets" is kinda a shocking but isolated fact. It's not the kind of topic a show like this can talk about for half an hour.
      If it was a trend with many many cases it would be maybe a different situation, but as for now it can't really be compared with more pressing matters that can actually have repercussions outside of Italy (like elections)

    • @2snowornot2know81
      @2snowornot2know81 6 років тому

      EIGOProduction if it's not the topic to talk in a show about "why italy will have a right wing anti EU government" then the whole show is propaganda.

    • @LeloTheUnamused
      @LeloTheUnamused 6 років тому

      Saying that Italy will have an anti EU government because of a case of brutal murder by african people, like if that single fact would justify people like Salvini and the fascists rising in the streets, it's also propaganda.
      It's also well known we are kinda drowing in shit with immigrants, we can't receive them all, we don't have enough resources to manage them all, and other EU countries don't help us. All of these factors maturing in years and years are much more relevant (and less hate-polarizing) to why the right wing is gaining attention than single cases of violence by specific ethnic groups of people.

      Trump is economically a business Democrat. He isn't pursuing hardly any social reform. He's just anti-mass unfettered immigration, which is totally reasonable at this point. Leftists are so fucking dumb, they want a populist welfare state, open borders and multiculturalism and they can't seem to conceptualize that those things can't exist simultaneously and be sustainable. Anyone with a brain can see this, but Leftists remain cognitively dissonant. Then they label anyone that points out the flaws in this logic and argues against it a fascist and a Nazi. It's unspeakably inane and juvenile.

      I've always found Italian politics baffling. From the sheer number of parties and the positions covering a huge range of philosophies to the turnover of prime ministers, it seems chaotic. Then there was/is Berlusconi. Irish comedian Dylan Moran said that he's so crooked he sleeps on a spiral staircase and that every time he smiles an angel gets gonnorhea.

It might be easier for me because I mostly agree with him, but - although his political opinions are blatant, as you say - he joked also on left and "neither left nor right" parties. But the far-right makes itself so easy to make fun of. Sure the left fucks up too (all the time, maybe even more often than the Right because "stay on course" fucks up less often than trying something new), but find me a leftist as easy to make fun of as Trump. I'm not a fan of the Corporate States of America, so the Democrats earn plenty of ire from me. Obama didn't manage to close Guantanamo... despite the fact that he easily could have in his last year when "bi-partisan cooperation" stopped needing to be applicable for the future. Then you look at Fox & Friends or Breitbart, and the near complete lack of facts instead of opinions couched as facts. I'm a centrist, and I'm a leftist in the USA!
      Honestly I hope the Republican Party's sub-groups implode and we can develop either an actual moderate party, or a center-left and center-right, by drawing off the moderates from the Democrats to join the moderate Republicans and neoconservatives. Leaving the Christian Right, Libertarians, and Traditionalists for the Republican Party, and the Socialists, Progressives, and Liberals to the Democrats. But that would probably require voting reform... which probably won't happen sadly.

      Conspiracy theorists who claim things like Sandy Hook never happened also believe they're just being healthily skeptical of the news.
      Skepticism does not mean immediately labeling everything on the news a lie.

    I'm Italian, and everything he said was actually accurate. I'm going to vote for the political elections for the first time this Sunday (I'm 19), and I'm really afraid that the coalition led by Berlusconi will win. The problem is that the left parties are too detached from the problems of the people, so many people are "forced" to turn to the right because it seems the only party that cares about them (not true - right parties would be a disaster for our country, and there are actually some good left parties that care about real problems, they're just too small to have a chance). Whatever the results will be, I hope that in the future we will do better. We Italians just have to stay strong and don't loose hope.

    Update on Italy: the random jackass who had nothing to do with the campaign that was picked as Prime Minister by the government coalition (composed of 5 Stars and League) was picked again as Prime Minister after Salvini tried to take down the government last August and make the electors vote again due to projection polls showing him as favorite and 5 Stars (that of the two was the majority component) decided to make a new coalition with the Democratic Party.
    And yeah, before anyone asks, Berlusconi is still here, volcano and all.

      @@superpippo93x The "random jackass" choesen turned out to be better than the leaders italians could vote for, surprisingly. Or maybe unsurprisingly.
      Now Conte's second government is basically over, because Matteo Renzi exited the majority coalition (wait, wasn't Renzi supposed to be gone from politics forever? He said so before losing his referendum...). The majority coalition lacks 18 senators, leaving Italy in deep crap during a pandemic:
      Vaccinations campaign just started, ~209B€ from the EU Recovery Fund to invest in our future hopefully without wasting any of it.
      So we don't know what's going to happen yet. Will Conte get a third chance to govern italy by finding 18 random senators? Or will John Oliver step in to save us? Who knows!
      You'll find out on next episode of... ua-cam.com/video/AeIyNHyeC4g/v-deo.html
      P.S.:
      To be completely fair, Conte isn't 100.0% random, as he was presented as a minister by M5S in the campaign before the 2018 election, although he was not and still isn't member of any party. But it was really funny to hear John Oliver "forseeing" that our prime minister would be chosen at "random".😂

    Quick recap of what happened in Italy in these past 2 years:
    - elections resulted in a three-party victory which made really difficult to form an actual governement
    -5 star (33%) movement formed an alliance with far right party Lega(17%), putting G. Conte as prime minster
    - The alliance fell one and a half year later. Pact was broken by Lega, now at 34% in polls. Basically drained 5star electoral base
    - Renzi left the Democratic Party, creating a new small party, Italia Viva right after forming an alliance between DP(19%) and 5star to create a second governement, led by Conte
    - pandemic came and it was a huge mess
    - at the beginning of 2021, Renzi made the governement collapse for literally no apparent reasons.
    - after another hard three weeks, Mario Draghi (former BCE president) was called by our president to become prime minister. He's now leading a governement that is basically held together by all parties joined
    - far right wants to go to elections though. But here's the catch: parlament can't be sent home in the 6 months prior to the next President election. This period starts in August, so DP wants to hold on to avoid Legs and their alliance to elect the new president through the parliament.
    Curious to see what's gonna happen, while we are still in the middle of a pandemic and far right is probably going to crush everybody else in next elections..that should be in 2023..or not?
    Btw, 68 governements in 73 years, yay

      That is completely false. Italy is a parliamentary republic, not a presidential democracy, and that's why the prime minister is not elected. It doesn't compare in power or functions to the POTUS.
      Despite this fact Giuseppe Conte had plenty to do with the campaign because for the first time in our history, a party announced his government candidates before the elections, and therefore 5 star voters knew him, even though he took Di Maio's leading place.

To be fair, that's probably me after the next 5 years IF the incumbent president managed to get re - elected, which I hope happens because he's probably the best Indonesia has as a president right now. I really don't know who else to choose after him because everyone else is shit. They'd claim the current president is ruining the country and ignores those who need help, while in reality they're all corrupt, they just want the power like it was 1965 - 1997, they don't care about the people since the only reason they say that is just so they could get support, if you listen to any of their ideas, they might be appealing but it's clear that neither they, nor the government, have the ability to do those things. Like I'd be impressed if they can do that, but it's like they're not aware of what the country actually needs and don't need.

    Italian here. Yes you are very far from our worst option but, technically, people in Italy DO NOT elect the prime minister, we elect the parliament. This means that, in the end, is the majority of the parliament that decide who the next prime minister is. Usually, parties express who the leader will be before the election, but is still a bit tricky. In the case of the Right parties coalition (Berlusconi and Salvini's parties are joining forces), Salvini says that he wants to be the president but Berlusconi opposes.
    So you see, you should convince representatives, not voters.

    I'm Italian... and this is the TRUTH. Everything John said is right. I hate to live in this country... most of the people are stuck in the past. They don't understand the evolution of things. They do stupid things and make stupid choices... I'm 16, I won't have a good future if I stay here. Life is hard here; especially in the southern zone of Italy, like Sicily. If Italy was a movie saga, it would sure as hell need a reboot.

      Tommaso P. So che ha esagerato qualche punto, ma penso che sia per lo spettacolo e per far ridere. Per quanto riguarda il discorso del sud, essendo siciliano sono d'accordissimo con te. Però il problema del sud riguarda anche le persone... qui a parte i giovani tutti sono attaccati al passato e trovano difficile evolversi per stare al passo con i tempi... E se fai qualcosa di diverso tutti si straniscono perchè la gente di qui non è pronta a qualcosa di nuovo. Ovviamente le eccezioni ci sono, ma la gran parte delle persone qui in Sicilia ha una mentalità troppo "tradizionale"

    • @nicolazanetti1795
      @nicolazanetti1795 6 років тому +3

      youwut mate, Oliver is a comedian, he is supposed to mock people, even to the point of insult. But a world leader blatantly insulting other world leaders (he insulted them when he was in office, therefore compromising alliances with other countries) is a completely different matter. I hope you can see the difference here...

    • @youwutmate757
      @youwutmate757 6 років тому

      Nicola Zanetti So you are proposing a double standard. Politician is not entitled to insulting people, while a comedian is. That's bad enough, mate. What about a case where a politician insults a private citizen? Obama did made remarks about Trump while he was still in office... So in this case, should Obama not have a right to mock people, while Trump should have a right? Or it's either way around because you know, it's Trump. This doesn't make sense now, does it?

    • @nicolazanetti1795
      @nicolazanetti1795 6 років тому

      +youwut mate: yes, I AM proposing a double standard! Insulting others is the JOB of a comedian, whereas insulting world leaders is NOT the job of a Prime Minister, and can actually lead to very dire consequences (and it did: under Berlusconi, Italy's international credibility was at an all-time low, which had a part in collapsing our economy, since the economic system is based on trust...). Really, are you unable to see the difference?

    • @youwutmate757
      @youwutmate757 6 років тому

      + Nicola Zanetti I'm sorry to break it to you but politician's language, specifically one's use of insults is unrelated to politician's performance. Yes, Berlusconi did a terrible job AND used insults. You know who else used them? The ones like "Lyin' Ted", "Crooked Hillary", "Low-energy Jeb"? Exactly.
      Say what you want but facts are that Trump has made tremendous progress, like lowest unemployment numbers for hispanics, blacks, tax cuts from 35% to 15% for corporations which you know is a good thing because China has lowered it to 0% in response (if companies support communist, organ-selling, human trafficing regime that is CCP, of course). China couldn't even compete with Trump's new tax plan. Also companies have started moving back jobs to US, along with their capital, that is taxable (of course), among other accomplishments... These are facts. Anyways, I would call it a great performance. So that disproves your conjecture about Berlusconi's insults, right?
      There is more. Obama insulted Trump by calling him a fringe conspiracy theorist, he specifically mentioned that he should go back to fake moon landing and who killed Biggie and Pac conspiracies after his birth certificate was supposedly put to rest. I admit, that's a funny meme coming from Obama. He was president and he insulted Trump, a private citizen at the time... So what's with this fake political correctness bullshit you leftists spit out? Don't you see some hypocrisy here? I may be insulting you but hear this OUT, man
