I find it so surreal that’s Trey Parker from _South Park_ fame provided the voice of Balthazar Bratt who literally looks like an alternate version of Randy Marsh.
On top of that, it’s perhaps the first and so-far only time that Trey Parker got to participate in an animated family film considering that 98% of his work is primarily doing _South Park,_ although he did work on the broadway musical _The Book of Mormon_ and _Team America: World Police_ which were also Non-South Park projects, Trey worked on.
Apparently in an interview, Trey mentioned he wanted to work on an animated family film just so his young daughter can watch him in since she’s too young to watch _South Park_
The plot behind the Hollywood thing is that Bratt was re-creating an episode from his show where he sent Hollywood to space.

Apparently Trey accepted the role of Balthazar because it was something his 2-year-old daughter could really watch. Too young for South Park but eventually became the voice of Kyle’s brother Ike and others. I think that’s one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard. I mean, what wouldn’t an actor parent do for their kid?

This franchise gets my humor and I love it. Its not shy to use the classic music and tropes of older generations and be relatable to older folks too despite being a kids movie. Its what seperates many modern kids movies from family movies we used to see more often in the early 2000s. This also helps kids kind of understand what the previous generations had in entertainment. I mean you dont really hear much new music being propped up like those from the 70s-90s? There are some newer artists within those genres but they arent given as much attention as say pop stars or rappers. We also saw some cool dance moves. These days all the popular dances kids know are those in fortnite or twerking. Which I see twirking not even as a dance but a sexual innuendo. No different than putting your finger through a hole like your making a dick joke. I expect to see twerking from a stripper or a prostitute not a child.
Bathazaar Bratt clearly was inspired by Micheal Jackson and his wild performances. He is a fun villain. All of the dispicable me villains are great and unique too. Theres the nerdy spoiled child from the 1st one, El Macho, and Balthazaar Bratt. These creators within illumination know what most people can relate to and how it will sell. Too bad others within disneys assets cannot do the same. Instead they feel the need to make it so you like whatever they like.
Many people find the minions annoying because they can be when taken in excess due to their energy levels. I can handle it since its no different than working with elementary schoolers which I do 5 times a week. Which just means its very relatable because its so true. Kids that young can have extreme amounts of energy. Minions are basically small round yellow kindergartners in overalls.
I personally think if people didnt use them in clips so often or whenever the illumination sign came on they would feel less dominating. They are a product of what sells though and thus they are going to shine with all they have. I also think toxic social media has kind of conditioned people into believing something must suck just because someone else said so. In other words social medias massive presence in the modern age is why many cannot think a thought of their own without any influence.
My advise is know yourself and decide then if what your going to watch fits that or not regardless of what others may think. If it does than try the film. If you already know its something your going to dread seeing than dont watch it. I hope dispicable me 4 will be just as good.

Honestly this was one of the weakest and my least favorite film from the _Despicable Me_ series and I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first two _Despicable Me_ films and the Minions films including _The Rise of Gru._ For starters, the main villain was a step backwards from the last two villains and another reason I didn’t enjoy this film was that their was just so many different subplots happening during the film such as Gru and Dru's relationship with each other as brothers, Agnes looking for a "Unicorn", Margo's date with Nico at the insistence of Lucy and the Minions shenanigans resulting in their arrest after they abandoned Gru, when literally it should focus on the former which is Gru and Dru’s bond with each other.
So, my ranking from Most favorite to least favorite:
1. Despicable Me

3. Minions: The Rise of Gru
4. Minions
5. Despicable Me 3

Idk if you guys are interested in watching a series, but I highly recommend Blue Eye Samurai. It’s got some dark moments but it’s also really funny and has cool as hell fight scenes. Season one is out on Netflix.

Yeah, there’s the first Minions movie from 2015 which goes over who the minions served before Gru, then there’s Minions: Rise of Gru from 2022, which is about when they started working with Gru when he was a kid.
