  • Today we salvaged a oak tree that was blown over in a storm. This is the first log we tried on my buddy ‪@KeepingItDutch‬ new sawmill. We made some 1"x4.5" lumber for my new project in the goat barn.

Wow, I never would have thought you could get that much out of a tree like that. What a wonderful project to practice on to perfect your skills before tackling a project as important as a house. Too bad you all didn’t have that mill when your tree blew down and you had to do all of that work cutting it into firewood, either way that tree was put to good use. God sure has been providing you with blessings at the right time. The bees when you lost your hives and now your neighbors tree to practice milling with and creating boards to make the feed stall in your barn. I can’t wait to see more.

Hey Steve here with MSD making saw dust. Just a little tip for you all. You have the log dogs on wrong side of mill. The log dogs go on the left side of the mill and the lock down dogs go on the right side. That way u can set your blade guide up close to your logs. Have a great adventure.

When we married we still where saving fir furniture all made from real oak.
We where married 7 years had 3 kids already ancd than enough saved for the real oak to come.
All our big cupboards diningset and lots more. We moved to Canada and took everything with us and still use it al.
    Loveseat big chair and couch.
Beautiful desk to write my letters to my sisters.
    And little hall drawers cupboard.
Big tv stand. And still all great.
    We had 12 year warranty.
That is long over its now 40years old.
Only the dining set was 6thousand gulden. Than no euro's.
So you can do for ever with your furniture. Lol
So i hope where you all need Oak for and Dutch too you will have it for ever. Good luck to all of you.
    Big hug for all.🤗

Replant groves for your children. Suggest selling enough board & beam to get the loader accessory. The outsider & Out of the woods & Matthew Cremona are some of the milling channels I've checked out. Out of the woods shed setup with the open side is really neat & makes sense. Some guys have milled cedar & made the siding boards for their own milling shed. The outsiders cabin build really took off when He got his mill. Making your own lumber & having a managed woodlot is the way to go for homesteaders, Pooling resources & helping each other like a Grange is another imo.
    bol guys

If you are going to use dry red oak or hickory for building projects, get a good supply of top quality drill bits. It's almost impossible to drive nails or screws in red oak or hickory without predrilling. Good luck.

  • @christinakirby2518

You guys should build a rack to set the logs on one side of the mill . Then you can put a few logs on it and roll them over to saw them up and not have to worry about damaging the mill putting them on with the tractor. I know a guy that did that and when he moved the mill his rack design allowed him to fold it up and transport it with the mill. Just an idea to think about . Awesome to see Dutch allowing you to mill some lumber for yourself . Good friends are awesome to have .
