As I understand it there were 3 men talking to each other when the Moscow Mule was invented. A vodka man, a ginger beer man and a copper cup man. Hence it being served in a copper cup traditionally.
Variants: 1. Mayan mule - uses tequila (something Bruce agreed never to touch since the 1970s haha!) 2. Kentucky mule - uses bourbon (popular in the southern US) 3. Tennessee mule - uses Tennessee whiskey 4. Gin-gin Mule - uses gin 5. Rye buck - older version, using rye whiskey, no copper mug 6. Irish mule - common in some pubs - uses Irish whiskey (I think I'd like this one the best, since Irish whiskey is one of my favorites) 7. Dark n' Stormy - omits the 1/2 oz lime juice and floats 50 ml or so of Gosling's black seal on top of some ginger beer.
Good Question... I think it would be leaning more towards Mule territory, what with the ginger beer. The addition of fresh mint is a very nice addition as it pairs well with both the ginger beer and the fresh lime. Personally, I think you can call it whatever you like. I would call it delicious.
If we look at the science behind copper, we find that it is an excellent thermal conductor, meaning it transfers heat from hot sources (like the room or your hands) to cold sources (like your drink). So no, a copper mug will not keep your Moscow Mule colder, longer. However, copper mugs look awesome. Not to worry though, if you're drinking a Mule in a copper mug it probably won't last that long for you to worry about it. Cheers, Gary.
My favorite go-to! Love the backstory, Bruce! Insight to how you became YOU! lol

Hello Bruce, great show. If I put some mint leaves it still be a mule or more like a vodka mojito?

Nice drink, isn't the copper cup supposed to keep it much colder for a while longer than a glass
