Dude, this pandemic is driving me and a lot of other people crazy. You guys are providing us quality videos for free that are both informative and enjoyable. I hope that you guys have a great day, and find a reason to smile today. And everybody else reading this, enjoy a cocktail or really any drink today, be well, and from one cocktail enthusiast to another, keep on keeping on. We're gonna make it, my friends!!
Fun fact about the Moscow Mule in Brazil: due to the lack of ginger beer in the brazilian market, a bartender made a version with club soda and topped with a ginger foam. That was about 15 years ago. This variation is so famous nowadays, it bacame the default Moscow Mule. Most people don’t even know how it’s actually made. When I get my hands on some imported ginger beer and serve it to my friends, I have to refer to it as a “foam-less Moscow Mule”
Craved a moscow mule but didn't have any Ginger Beer. Grated fresh Ginger, let it soak in the Vodka for a few minutes, added some extra honey syrup, shake it with the lime juice, strained in copper mug topped with soda water, lightly stirred and garnished with cucumber spears. Pretty good, could hardly tell a difference.
It's very nice of you to put a disclaimer at the start of the video but, truth be told, the historic insight about the many drinks and cocktails is one of the things I like the most about your channel! Since I'm already leaving a comment, I'd love to suggest you to make video using Strega, and Italian herbal liquor, since I think you have a bottle on the counter behind you (not sure though). Got half a bottle of it from a friend who didn't like it and, unsurprisingly, it has a rather strange flavor. Although I've learned to enjoy it on its own, I haven't succeeded in using it in a cocktail yet.
I use Fever Tree as well for my Moscow Mules. This is one of the earliest drinks I ever made. Its has stayed one of my favorites too. I really like your mug of choice there.
Love this drink. Being an Aussie, I prefer to use Bundaberg ginger beer - I’m impressed that you named that in the video! It’s winter here right now though, so I’m drinking things like brandy flips and hot toddys at the moment. 😊👍🏻
A couple years ago I was introduced to a Mule with Barritt's ginger beer and coconut water vodka. Not coconut vodka but vodka made with coconut water... total game changer. So light and refreshing.
How is this channel not bigger than it is??? I feel like it’s a perfect mix of education and information, I always learn something new and make an incredible cocktail. Thanks man (ps: found this channel through Spikes Breezeway)
I love how you mention exact amount of lime juice and point out that you might have bigger limes. I just haaaateeeeee when people say just use half a lime. Doesn't make sense
I want that mug for when I make my mules. Mules and Dark and Stormys are my all time favorite drink for every occasion, love goslings and Barritts ginger beer
I used 2 ounces of vodka Belvedere, 1 ounce of Ginger Syrup, 1/2 ounce of lime and top with Fever-tree ginger beer. You can use the cooper mug or a Gin cup for more drink per serving. The ginger syrup is fundamental and gives the drink a proper mule kick. Ginger Syrup: Boil for 15 minutes 1 cup (250 ml approx.) of peeled ginger with 1 an 1/2 cup of water, add 1 cup of white sugar. The sugar will melt, and you will get a syrup with the peeled ginger wholes. Now wait until is cold and throw your mix with the peeled ginger to your blender to get the whole ginger extract. Use your strainer and get the ginger syrup. Thank me later! The ginger puree can be used for another recipe.
I really like using Q ginger beer. It's like fever tree, my second favorite, not too much sweetness with loads of ginger, but it comes in a can that is the perfect portion. The type of lime is also important IMO, Key lime or bearss lime, but they need to be ripe and turn yellow. Always wash the limes first, since they are covered in filth and agrichemicals from the farms. Great video by the way
Im a big fan of using Bruce Cost Unfiltered Ginger Beer in my cocktails though I will def try out some Fever Tree this weekend when I mix up some Moscow Mules.
Thank God you're still making real and good drinks. We got Greg from How to drink making bullshit ass drinks like "how would a Playstation 5 taste if it was a drink" and whatnot so its good to know you're still churning out good vids
My mother and her fiancé love this drink, but she goes a variation often now because of something I’ve bought them a few times. We have a local distillery (Wiggle Whiskey) here in Pittsburgh. They make “Afterglow” a ginger flavored spirit. I want to say they top their mule with soda or Perrier when they’re using the afterglow though.
Nice, I was planning to make some very soon! Also I thought it would be nice to search in your videos by ingredient, like, all your videos that contain Appleton Estate for example. Thank you again Leandro for your videos, I love them!
I think the first day of Summer is June 21st. At least in Canada that's when we say summer starts. I wish our summer temperatures lasted longer than 4 months 😒 I love watching your videos. I got the Rick and Morty Ice to work by the way lol well mostly. I can't bring myself to cut holes in the molds so I get a little bit of trapped bubbles in the very bottom.
Personally, I think FT Ginger Beer is very sharp in the back of my throat. I prefer Old Jamaican for my mules (Kentucky mule preferably), although it is a significantly sweeter alternative.
Man, I need to give you a tip. When you press citrus, also chop both ends before pressing. It will be much easier to press and you gonna get more juice. And it's not gonna be messy.
What is the difference between Fevertree's Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale? I looked on their website but they seemed extremely similar. Fevertree is not easy to get here but I did find the Ginger Ale
May I trouble you for one more questuon, take a French 75 for example, some recipes might say 30 ml gin, 30 ml lemon juice, 22.5 ml sugar syrup, another might say 45 ml gin, 22.5 each of lemon juice and sugar syrup, another might say 15 ml each of lemon and sugar. So am I correct in saying that within reason obviously, there is no right or wrong? I would probably always go equal lemon vs syrup as per sour formula. If you see fit you might do a video on this topic at some point? Many thanks again.
I always had reservations about using any citrus in a metal utensil.... How long does a drink like this hold without the taste changing? I usually take my drinks long and slow, hence asking.
Make some big ice cubes out of lime juice and water and put one of those in along with regular smaller ice cubes. Adds some additional lime flavor throughout the life of the drink, as it melts.
Silly question time . Is ginger beer the same thing as ginger ale ? I have made a Moscow Mule before but just used ginger ale as that's what I had on hand ( Canada dry brand ) was refreshing that way too.
That stain on your window/curtain, top right, next to your head, got me thinking I had something on my phone screen lol i was tryna scratch it off for like 30 seconds🤣😂
Didn't see this one in your video repertoire: The Elvis 45mls London Dry Gin 15mls St Germain 90mls Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice 90mls India Pale Ale (Sometimes garnished with mint... sometimes with citrus peel.) There actually several good Elvis-themed summer cocktails out there.
I used to be quite sceptical about Moscow mules, despite being Russian myself I have no high regards for vodka nor vodka based cocktails. However over time I've learnt not to expect much of the mule, it's just a fun easy drink that can get you smashed. If you take it as such, it is quite enjoyable.
I know this is an old video but I can’t help but wonder why the lime was switched out for lemon in this drink. It seems to me that ginger and lemon are much more commonly paired together, such as in a penicillin or a Presbyterian, than ginger and lime. It’s very good both ways but seems to be an odd choice 🤷♂️
I was wondering if a ginger ale like canada dry would be acceptable to make a moscow mule. Is there a difference between gignger beer and ginger ale? I've never seen ginger beer here in belgium but ginger ale is easy to find (at least that one brand).
Fever Tree is good, but I prefer the Cock & Bull Ginger Beer. Sprouts has one called Brooklyn Crafted Extra Spicy that is also really good. Reed's Strongest or Western Son is also good picks. Current mix for me: 2oz of Skyy or Deep Eddy that I keep in the freezer 1oz Lime juice 6oz of Ginger beer Smashed ice from a lewis bag
Have you ever heard or seen a bartender add sugar/ simple syrup to any mule? I’ve seen it before but never got the reaction from the person and I’m not sure what taste profile the sugar would add or take away since a mule is a well balanced cocktail on its own.🤔🤔

Ain't nobody got time for all that fluff. I'm trying to make a damn drink

How would you make ginger foam? Sounds like an interesting variation!

We love that drink!
It‘s one of our favorite signature drinks with our lime liqueur! CHEERS 🍸
Great episode! I appreciate you taking the time to teach the history for one of my favorite summer drinks.

Just the way I make 'em ..... for some reason this became a Christmas season drink for us...

I love how you mention exact amount of lime juice and point out that you might have bigger limes. I just haaaateeeeee when people say just use half a lime. Doesn't make sense
That lime he used first was drier than the middle of Tunisia.
I think using rosemary as a garnish is one of the best combinations ever, IMO elevates the drink with an aroma that mixes so well with ginger and lime
This guy/girl gets it
Love the drink and the history you shared in the video.
Too late for too early for the time stamp, but... I’m pro-drink history and this is 3:44 of it.
You were warned
I want that mug for when I make my mules. Mules and Dark and Stormys are my all time favorite drink for every occasion, love goslings and Barritts ginger beer

Those people suck. Screw them.
History is all lies anyway
Your lips are not meant to touch copper, ask the ancient Indian who poorer antiviral water from copper mugs into their mouth

This is a great cocktail for summer. Very refreshing. I like how it evolves while you drink it to the bottom.
The Fever Tree is my favorite too. Gotta have mint in mine!
Im a big fan of using Bruce Cost Unfiltered Ginger Beer in my cocktails though I will def try out some Fever Tree this weekend when I mix up some Moscow Mules.
I personally like a branch of fresh mint in my mule. Anyone else?
Thyme it is for me!
Cant have enough mint
Never mad about it.
I muddle the mint in the lime juice a bit before pouring in the rest of the ingredients.
Try a Gin-Gin Mule, they made a video about it. It’s one of my favorite “fresh summer drinks”. ua-cam.com/video/CtzaTXYoRn4/v-deo.html
“It’s gonna be kind of a long video” - Is the shortest video in months. Still a great drink/video.
A seven minute video is long for a cocktail that only consists of 3 standard ingredients 😂
Thank God you're still making real and good drinks. We got Greg from How to drink making bullshit ass drinks like "how would a Playstation 5 taste if it was a drink" and whatnot so its good to know you're still churning out good vids
At my store near me, you can actually buy a Cock and Bull brand ginger beer. It’s really good!
I love the history you always add in the videos man! Keep it coming!
Bundaberg ginger beer is my favorite, but a sprig of mint (don’t muddle it, just a slap between two hands to release the oils) is a MUST!!
Baah, people who don't like history? I wouldn't bother with what those people think.
LOL
I love all the history you add in your videos. It’s what puts Educated Barfly above the rest! 👌🏽♥️
Bust out the copper cups boys! Also dark and stormy is delicious! It was my first rum cocktail
Brilliant! One of my favourites :) I use Crabbies Ginger Beer in mine, which is 4% proof - so it's only the lime that doesn't have alcohol in it.
Your ice cubes have alcohol in them?
@@das_hund-1 Wow! That's a great idea if I can get them to freeze 👍👍👍
Another drink to add to my "to try" list. I've had a rather strong craft soda ginger beer that should be good with this one.
Was the drink that got me into drinks. You can always also put your own spin on it too. Great and refreshing, if not a bit dangerous. Cheers!
This and the Kentucky mule riff was the one that got me. It also may have thrown me down the wonderful route of whiskey.
My mother and her fiancé love this drink, but she goes a variation often now because of something I’ve bought them a few times. We have a local distillery (Wiggle Whiskey) here in Pittsburgh. Opening up and seeing fever true I know the title becomes valid. Because fever tree has that extra spicy kick every ginger beer needs!
For the algorithm's sake! Gotta get me a couple copper mule mugs for the accuracy! Love it -G
Personally, I think FT Ginger Beer is very sharp in the back of my throat. I prefer Old Jamaican for my mules (Kentucky mule preferably), although it is a significantly sweeter alternative.
gonna be a long video... And it's only 8 minutes... Love it!
I like to add a splash of ginger syrup too.
Tried it and good. I can say the taste notes are exactly as you stated.
Whoaaa... I made one today and tried to look for your recipe on youtube but couldnt find it but now I do lol
Not much of a ginger beer fun but that is a classic! Cheers guys!
I meant fan. Hahaha it was fun watching the video. I really admire you how you can remember all the historic info and names and say it so smoothly!
I read somewhere that the name came about from the fact that the copper mugs had an image of a mule on it.
Skip to 0:00 if you want just the best parts.
Man, I need to give you a tip. When you press citrus, also chop both ends before pressing. It will be much easier to press and you gonna get more juice. And it's not gonna be messy.
My local bar of choice does a mule with lavender infused gin rather than vodka. Really good.
No discussion about the thermal conductive properties of copper this time around?
Not this time but I’m more than happy to have a talk about it :) 😂
Goslings makes a pretty darn good ginger beer as well!
I'm a sucker for complicated, "go on an epic quest to acquire the necessary ingredients" cocktails. I'd never turn down a Moscow Mule, though.
Just bought fentimans Ginger beer Yesterday. Convenient..😸... salud 🍻 from México
I always add mint to my mules. I also like really spicy ginger beer and albertsons store brand ginger beer is fantastic and super cheap.

Summer in a cup. That's how I describe the cocktail.
I always had reservations about using any citrus in a metal utensil.... How long does a drink like this hold without the taste changing? I usually take my drinks long and slow, hence asking.
Fever Tree Ginger Beer is my favorite. Used to love Stewart's when they were in business
Cool. The ginger beer brand that is best IMO is “Q”. Lower sugar and very gingery. Taste wise is better than fever.
Which would you say makes a better mule: 1 ginger beer. 2 fresh ginger syrup and soda. 3 ginger beer with a touch of fresh ginger syrup ?
I think that fresh ginger, lime and spirit makes a buck and that lime and ginger beer makes a mule LOL
The Educated Barfly well, I guess I’ve been making Bucks and calling them Mules 🤷♂️
That stain on your window/curtain, top right, next to your head, got me thinking I had something on my phone screen lol i was tryna scratch it off for like 30 seconds🤣😂
I like to use gin instead of vodka. It adds a new flavour and it really works with the ginger and lime.
Didn't see this one in your video repertoire:
The Elvis
45mls London Dry Gin
15mls St Germain
90mls Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice
90mls India Pale Ale
(Sometimes garnished with mint... sometimes with citrus peel.)
There actually several good Elvis-themed summer cocktails out there.
I love your drinks! I’ve made at least 15 of them and you have not disappointed once. Do you have any spicy drinks?
Nice mug ! Where did you buy it from ? Thank you. !

4:09. For the record, I DO like the history, but I also want to spend less time on the internet.
This is pretty much exactly how I've been making these for 10 years or so. Glad I'm doing it right!
Nice but I heard the original copper mugs (2000 of them) were brought over from Moscow at the end of WWII.
So then what differentiates a buck and a mule?
Pro Tip! - Gin & Tonics are amazing in copper mugs.
I like to swap out the vodka for Irish whiskey. Mostly because I don't currently have any vodka
I was wondering if a ginger ale like canada dry would be acceptable to make a moscow mule. Is there a difference between gignger beer and ginger ale? I've never seen ginger beer here in belgium but ginger ale is easy to find (at least that one brand).
Ginger beer has a much stronger ginger flavor and is usually less sweet. You might be better making a ginger syrup and using club soda
Love this drink
Fever Tree is good, but I prefer the Cock & Bull Ginger Beer. Sprouts has one called Brooklyn Crafted Extra Spicy that is also really good. Reed's Strongest or Western Son is also good picks.

2oz of Skyy or Deep Eddy that I keep in the freezer
1oz Lime juice
6oz of Ginger beer

How about the frothy thing on top?
