Nordic Bronze Age Lures 1700-500 BC and the Kings grave

- Description:
The bronze lur is made entirely of bronze. There are two forms of lurs. The latest and most developed is the "S-shaped".
This lur can be described as a thin-walled, conical tube, about 1 meter 50 cm to 2 meter 25 cm.
The other older form of lurs, less developed, was shorter, slightly bent and lacking the endplate.
The "Wismar horn" from Germany - an older lur type.
The earliest references to an instrument called the lur come from Icelandic sagas, where they are described as war instruments,
used to marshal troops and frighten the enemy. These lurs, several examples of which have been discovered in longboats, are straight,
end-blown wooden tubes, around one meter long. They do not have finger holes, and are played much like a modern brass instrument.
The word lur is still very much alive in the Swedish language, indicating any funnel-shaped implement used for producing or receiving sound.
For instance, the Swedish word for headphones is hörlurar (hearing-lurs), and a mobile telephone might be referred to as a lur in contemporary
Swedish (derived from telefonlur, telephone handset). The Danish butter brand Lurpak is named after the lur, and the package design contains
pictures of lurs.
The Lure from the Bronze Age are one of the oldest musical instruments in the world - that still can be played.
The King's Grave near Kivik info:
The King's Grave near Kivik (Kungagraven i Kivik, Kiviksgraven) in the southeastern portion of the Swedish province of Skåne is what remains of an unusually
grand Nordic Bronze Age double burial 1700 -1100 BC.
The site is located about 320 metres (1,050 ft) from the shore of the eastern coast of Scania in southernmost Sweden. In spite of the facts that the site has
been used as a quarry, with its stones carried off for other uses, and that it was restored carelessly once it was known to be an ancient burial, these two
burials are unique.
In both construction and in size-it is a circular site measuring 75 metres (246 ft) in diameter-this tomb differs from most European burials from the Bronze Age.
Most importantly, the cists are adorned with petroglyphs. The images carved into the stones depict people, animals (including birds and fish), ships,
lurs being played, symbols, and a chariot drawn by two horses and having four-spoked wheels.
Music:
From "Fornnordiska Klanger". Played on Bronze Lurs dating back to the first millenium BCE! As close to Indo-European Music as you can get basically ;)
From "Fornnordiska Klanger." Played on instruments found in the King's tomb at Kivik, Sweden, 1700-1100 BC!

Goosebumps, these horns sound badass, even a bit terrifying.
Yes, imagine you are an ordinary Stone Age hunter-gatherer and there are suddenly guys with bronze weapons, ships and make such a noise with these lures!
Don't worry friend, we were not that bad, we were known in Scandinavia by the name "birch men" because the ships were made from Birchwood and we were famous for being merchants of gold, Flintstone and wool. Yes we did make war against each other, in forms of tribal wars with neighbors. But back then the Danes were not as unfriendly as the early Iron age (vikings), they were still pagans in the form of sun worshippers, but not directly satanic worshippers as in the viking Aser beliefs (Aser tro) Thor and Odin and that stuff where violence and evil behavior was rewarded.
This makes me feel like some ancient power is about to cause Ragnarok
😂😂😂😂😮
Thanks friend :-)
The music come from these Bronze age lures so its very mysterius indeed :-)
Thanks again for your nice words :-)
Greetings from Sweden
Greetings from Finland!
Grym video! Bronsålden är en extremt intressant tidsperiod i Skandinavisk historia.
My DNA tingles at the sound of the bronze lur. Thanks for uploading this :)

Cheers from Sweden
Imagine being a roman and hearing 100 of these at dawn.
Well then the roman time traveled, because these instruments was cast a milennium before the founding of Rome
Incredible!! Thanks!
dette er den lyd jeg husker fra min barndom som tilskuer ved vikingespil :)
The past still keeps many misteries. Little by little, we are getting to know more and more about the past. The lurs are awesome, they can play even three thousand years ago!
A wave of these peoples came to ireland, britain, the low countries & northern france in the late bronze age.
Well according to Irish legends Tuatha Dé Danann came from the north so its very possible they came even before that.
Greetings from Sweden
I’m in love with this sound!
I have seen the Lurmark on packets of Lurpak butter, but didn't know what a lur was. Thanks for a most interesting video, and best wishes to you. ~Arlene.
22 of the 35 Lurs ever found was found in Denmark.
During the bronze age Denmark was the most densely populated region of the Germanic peoples ancestors’
I also read that the capital island of copenhagen was more of a swampland then island port

Very..a..luring.....mystical.
These instruments had practical and ritual purposes. They could signal other boats, weather, hazards, peace, shamanic ritual, recreational music and in warfare to signal troops like the drum and fife.
Thanks friend :-)

Cool video. I just came back from Sweden. We stayed in and around Malmö for a while and visited several places such as Foteviken, Uppåkra, etc. which I'm sure you're familiar with. Definitely returning to the Foteviken reserve some time in the future. We have something in the Netherlands similar called the Archeon. Hails.
This is trully fascinating... such an old art, yet geometry is already developed... wow !
cubrick2001 Angelino geometry is prehistoric though

Birka was a viking town here in Sweden, and the name probably meant a market place.
DAMN this shit go hard!!!!!!!!!
very interesting!
I search for hungarian citinames in other lands. Thanks
Are you descendants of the Vikings?
Sounds like the Leviathan in Hellraiser 2.
ive watched other videos on nordic lures and they sounded not as intimidating how did u manage to find an audio clip like this??
Bengt Svenson: Its from Fornnordiska klanger. You can read about it under the description of the video.
Cheers
Yes its true as you says, but I doubt very much that it has lived Basque people up here. The first settlers in Sweden was from Denmark and Germany and the culture and people is called Bromme culture.
The settlement can be found in Segebro near Malmö.
Cheers
Nordic heritage, proud and strong, keep what is ours by right.

As Iberians, Sikels, Raetians, Ligurians, Etruscans and some more.
The Wismar horn looks realy like the Gullåkra horn found at Gullåkra bog and Vesums bog. Ves- probably comes from gothic *Weihs, meaning 'sacred'..um from Heim, meaning home. 'The holy home'..Wis- could also come from ancient germanic word weihs..
Yes its seems that it was a Indo-european warrior style to have horned helmets.
Is that really a lur, a real lur?
Check out other videos about lur and compare the sound.
This one sounds realllyyy epic... Too epic compared to the other one ;)
Yes it should be a real lure. From "Fornnordiska Klanger." Played on instruments found in the King's tomb at Kivik, Sweden, 1700-1100 BC
My primal Viking inside of me is stirring
I have roots from the Danes and it's telling me I have to go plunder England
The time between these lurs and the viking age is longer than between the viking age and now
Just a few years and we’ll win over sweden, with our funny pokey sticks
Proud to be part Scandinavian, and to speak a Germanic language, such an honor.
We call telephones lur-s
Lol this could be used as phsicological warfare in a bronze age battle
Iam a 100% Norse man.
