Nordic Bronze Age God-King 🇸🇪 Håga barrow, aka King Björn's Mound

  • The Håga mound (Hågahögen) or King Björn's barrow is a large Nordic Bronze Age burial mound near Uppsala, Sweden. It is one of the most magnificent remains from the Nordic Bronze Age and contained a lot of gold and bronze items. It contains a man who was cremated on a pyre, just like Patroclus in Homer's Iliad.
    This video looks at the amazing golden sword and gilt golds buttons and brooches from the barrow and compares them to the wider Indo-European pagan custom of burial mounds for great men. You might say a man buried with so much gold was a Golden One....
    The Trundholm sun chariot in the thumbnail and the video was not found in the barrow, it was found in Denmark and is from roughly the same period.

    To further explain the symbolism of gold, and why it is associated with kings, we must realize that gold is a noble metal. This means that is very un-reactive, it does not rust or otherwise decompose, it does not change its characteristics when acted upon or introduced to other elements. So in addition to being very rare, gold seems to be eternal, incorruptible and pure. Just think of the fact that these golden items from the tomb were found almost 3000 years later, and are still in very much the same shape as when they were put there. The symbolism here is striking, and obvious. Kingship is not fluid, malleable or up for debate, as modernity would have you believe, but is rather associated with eternity, stability, and in-corruptibility. Great vid as always.

    Museum of Stockholm history (Historiska Museet) is thoroughly cultural marxist. I went there to look what they had about bronze age and it was a disgrace. Jumbled together, poorly marked, haphazard. And then they had an even sillier exhibition where the little notes were like they were written by high school students in their inanity and sillyness. For example, they mentioned the find in Illerup (ironage) as an example of prehistoric disarmament. Most public institutions in sweden are idiotic but Historiska museet is the worst of the lot.

    • @Survivethejive

      Get this. In the Gold hoard collection section, showcasing the gold finds from Sweden dating all the way from the Bronze age right to the middle ages, they also have a new video exhibit which includes Syrian refugees talking about the sentimental value of their gold jewellery they brought with them. Talk about shoehorning!

    In Lithuania some hills or mounds, which may be kurgans or have had some othe purpose are called ''castle hills''. There's an old Lithuanian saying ''Love without envy is like a meal without salt.'' That's a very different perspective on both love and envy than our materialistic society understands.

    I wonder why they would even think about how gold equals ineqality in this burrial. I mean... the past is a different country. They were nothing like us. If they were as gready as we are, they would not put gold in his grave to begin with. This is obviously gold they thought he needed and deserved. And let's not forget how society was back then. They lived very close and were dependent on each other. This burried man probably knew that he would be nothing without his hard working servants, and they felt protected and lead by him. He probably knew the weaver of his clothes, had watched the sheep and flax grow. It is nothing like now, when all you think about is how the system abuses you.

    It is kind of interesting to know that in the period of the 6-8th centuries AD in ancient/medieval Korea, burial mounds or barrows were very common for Korean royalty. If you go to modern Gyeongju in South Korea, there are burial mounds or barrows littering the landscape of the city itself.

      Native American traditions/religion are very similar to native European traditions/religion.

    • @RIVALBLACKWELL
      @RIVALBLACKWELL 7 років тому

      That's a good point, one could say animal spirits, tomahawks, totems etc, were brought to the natives by Norse settlers. Didn't they recently find Viking ships in Mississippi?

    • @JohnSmith-ys4nl
      @JohnSmith-ys4nl 7 років тому +17

      It goes back further than the Norse. DNA evidence proves that Europeans and Native Americans share a genetic element called ANE (Ancient North Eurasian) that dates to about 20,000 years ago. That is to say, Europeans and Native Americans share a common ancestor in Siberia. However, this is NOT found in Asians -- only in Native Americans. This proves that Native Americans are not simply "Asians who moved east." They are a mixture of Caucasians and Asians, even though their Caucasian ancestry is pretty small (about 15%). This would explain why some Amerinds look very caucasoid even though they have zero "colonial" admixture. And it is probably why some of the traditions are the same between the two cultures.

    You make an important point here. We cannot judge the past by the standards of the present. There is a gulf of Time between these people and modern society. We, at present, have very different lives and cultural and emotional responses. It is not for us to cancel the past. It happened, it once existed, and it was OUR past. "Honor thy father and thy mother" happens to be a world-wide cultural rule.

    A wealthy king was the sign of a good king during the bronze era. It meant his people were prosperous. A bad king would have been usurped by another noble, lost his land to invading armies, or been removed by the commoners during a rebellion. The king in that barrow made sure that his people's lands and trade routes were protected. It would be an honor to serve a king such as him.

    You have to make up T-shirts my friend. With your logo on the back. I know I would buy them by the score, and so would others I am sure of this I know you have your patreon. But I'm sure people would love this who subscribed to your Channel.

    Norwegians, Swedes, Icelanders, Danes are true Celts in the part of haplogroup R1a, haplotypes Z284, M512. The archeological culture of Bronze Age in all these countries is true celtic-scolothian culture! More in my future book "True Celts. The Colorado Factor".

    I went to Korea a few years ago and Korea is full of this kind of burial mounts. Huge ones for kings and queens and small ones scatterd all over the country. I don’t know if it is a simular tradition as in Europe or maybe the most practical solution living on rock bottom
