Today I stealth camp at Acala, Texas, an abandoned farming town, which I had no idea was very close to the US/ Mexico Border, a bit too close for comfort.

Flowing water is NOT a breeding ground for mosquitoes. It is clean stagnant water.

How weird, I have never heard of the owl pellets. I am currently camped at City of Rocks in New Mexico (I have seen you camp here before). I was in the office headquarters this morning and on their table in the sitting area there was a actual owl pellet with a tiny skull in it. That was the first I had ever heard of such a thing and then I was watching your video. Twice in one day! So bizarre! Man oh man, You got your boots dirty on this one!

Owl pellets usually appear in large piles.because the owl regurgitating them usually does it at its roost.
Some colleges and schools I've heard will and can buy them from you.

Owl pellets carry pathogens. Be extremely careful in a closed room or especially a deer blind where barn owls left lots of pellets. You can get severe cases of bronchitis.

    Great stealth camping episode!
When it gets buggy or really cold out I actually use the shemagh to cover my face! It's thin enough that I can breathe through it, thick enough to be a bug barrier, and a layer of insulation right up against my face which makes you feel warmer and comfortable more than any kind of actual warmth difference

For stealth at night, best to use red light vs white light.
Red light does not affect the rods and cones in your eyes, whereby white lights do. It takes approximately 30 minutes for your eyes to readjust to the dark after being subjected to white light at night.
If you were using white light, wanted to extinguish it to remain conspicuous, you vision would be impaired in the dark then if you have not used red light.
Of course, the alternative would be to wear an eyepatch over one eye preventing one from being exposed. That’s why pirates wore an eyepatch going from lighted topside decks down to the darker lower decks or holds of a ship they were attacking.

Love your videos. What is that that you used to carry the steaks? Is it some kind of insulated container?
Seeing abandoned places like this one, or even older ruins, it feels so trippy to me. To think that so many lives started and ended there... so many memories that are lost forever. It's such a weird feeling. Once I'm gone, and all my friends and family are gone, I'll be forgotten too. My home will one day crumble, something else will be built on top of it, and other people are going to live and die here, above the ruins. Kind of a bittersweet thought.

In your situation James, handcuffs could be a real experience especially if ICE or CBP find that 365. I'm sure it would turn out fine in the end but for a little while it could be intense. Being in that area so close to the border, ICE or CBP agents would most likely detain you instantly if spotted, checking your ID would be the saving grace for sure but would most likely get you sent packing. Nice video, from drama with Border Patrol worries to bats flying around creeped out dwellings. Definitely one to re-watch, well done, thanks for the work and trip. See ya soon.

It depends on your area and viewpoint but if you had to get home during some sort of disaster in an urban area, you may have to utilize stealth camping to get home. It doesn't have to look good to taste good (IMO), but sometimes it helps! ~ LoL
The only thing I would've done different is to drape a tarp from the ledge down at an angle to keep the light & the citronella in a more enclosed space.
In an apocalyptic scenario, that quail would be on the menu!

My thoughts exactly on the tarp to keep that repellent close by/ enclosed… maybe in the garage, but you should keep two escape routes if possible… they have a repellent at Sam’s club that is a bit bigger if you truly hate them micro-bats LoL love the Video let me know when you come back to NM!

thats not how bat skulls look, but owls do hunt bats so I wouldnt be surprised we can find a bat skull in one of those pellets
